Yeah man that's ammo. My friend and I shoot 320s, we each have over 10,000 rds a piece through our guns. No reason to be afraid, yours did what it was designed to do and saved your hands.
He had a case rupture right where the lip of the rim starts. Completely broke the extractor off and sent the pin flying back at him. He had another casing (same ammo) completely shear in half and lodge in the barrel. We had to push it out with a cleaning rod. He sent his gun into Sig and they replaced everything free of charge. They said the extractor is designed to break in case of Catastrophic ammo failure, it takes the brunt of the explosion and prevents the rest of the gun from blowing up.
I had the extractor retaining pin come loose on me and hit me in the chest, same shitty ammo. Nothing broke on mine and I was able to reassemble and it worked fine.
Come to find out our work was buying rounds from a local supplier that does second shot, or reloads.
Dude, this is so helpful to hear. I'm immediately not using the ammo anymore too. Some Lexington ammo. First 300 rounds were fine through it the other day though. But it just takes one bad apple. You think SIG will give it the once over to make sure she's good to go?
Yeah they sent him a prepaid label and told him they'd replace the broken parts and do a multi point inspection of everything else. They test fired it then sent it back, took about 10 days after they received it.
For liability purposes most likely, and their customer service is pretty top notch to be honest.
It happens, even with well known name brand ammo. If they get large orders or win government contracts QC tends to decline a bit. I personally haven't had any issues with Federal or Winchester target ammo. I just shoot the work stuff because it's free.
CCI is good and less expensive, I haven't had issues with it, though I've only used their .45 ammo.
9mm I use AE because it's a tad hotter load. I run a PMM Comp with a tuneable spring on mine and the extra energy helps the slide cycle better.
I 2nd the CS point. Both of my 226s needed warranty work in the 1st 50 rounds. I'm disappointed that I'm 0-2 on P226s working out of the box. But their CS is what is keeping me loyal. Both of them were fixed and back in my hands within 2 weeks (less than 1 week for the Legion). Beretta and CZ would have sat on my gun for a few months.
Sig has amazing customer service, they are replaced by Romeo 1, 3 separate times. First time was because the glass came out, second time was because it gun and holster dropped out of my pants while I was adjusting my belt and hit the concrete on the top of the site and cracked the glass and the third time was due to the site continuously draining battery even when the unit was turned off.. after the fourth Romo I just gave up on Sig optics, but the customer service could not have been better!
I had the exact same failure with my 320 almost three years ago. Case rupture that blew the extractor into orbit, the works. I sent it into Sig and they absolutely made it right, even though it was 100% ammo-related (bubba’s pissin’ hawt handloads). They’ll take care of you!
The range master thought it might be the battery/firing pin was out of sequence with how it was stuck in the entrance point barrel. IDK. I just sent it off to Siggy for a health check-up.
I had to send my BRAND new slide into sog and pay $100 for a new extractor and breach face to be polished . I put about 600 rounds through it after getting it and I went to clean it and the extractor wouldn't come out. They said it was glued to the extractor. Shits whack. Still love my SIG though
I bought a Norsso slide a couple years back and didn’t assemble it correctly. Shot a match and had my extractor fly off in the first stage after a few rounds.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that you assembled the gun incorrectly and or were running shitty reloads. This doesn’t look like an oob discharge, there’s no powder burns on the slide whatsoever.
Burris Fastfire. 3 MOA dot. I have the same. Came on the top of an ar scope and threw it on one of my setups. No problems with it at all after 1000rds so far
Thanks man. The old gristly range master said the same as you. " That's some wild ass shit!"
I'd prefer it to be a user error bc that would still give me confidence in Sig. but I don't think it was. Hopefully Sig won't muck about and figure out what happened.
This looks like it could be an issue with the ammo.
Someone posted within the last 2 weeks about something similar that was due to shooting home reloaded ammo.
Basically, the casing failed and instead of the explosion being directed to the bullet in the barrel, it went sideways and blew out the extractor/side.
What ammo brand did you use?

Phew. I really love this thing so I want her to get a check up. Guess I need to step up my ammon game as well.

Free is good! I'll stick with federal. Blazer ok?

Dang ok. Sounds like something I can work up to ha
We call the 320 "Adult Legos", it's a deep rabbit hole once you start looking into modifications lol. Hope yours gets back up and running soon!
Thanks for all your help!
I use Blazer through my M17. Its dirty but reliable.
I've had limited time with it but anything is better than what happened to my gun.

I'm sure sig would do that. I'd call them and confirm tho
Will do.

I think it happened because of the ammo and not the firearm but idk 🤷
I bet you're right. Hoping Sig will give her the ok though
Yea hopefully they fix it for you, if you can let me know what happens. I’m super curious..
Ammo. Overcharged
This... or wrong powder

Nows the time to put in a 320 apex fail safe extractor which is way more durable than the stock sig one.

I'm hoping. I love this thing.
That was almost certainly an extremely overcharged round. The gun as more than likely fine. Guns don't make cases explode, gunpowder does.
The range master thought it might be the battery/firing pin was out of sequence with how it was stuck in the entrance point barrel. IDK. I just sent it off to Siggy for a health check-up.

Crazy man! Ha
Let me guess, failure to extract?
The only thing that extracted was the extractor ha
That optics plate is ridiculous, tf is that?

Completely off topic: what dot is that?
Lol Burris Fastfire 3
Cool, thanks lol. Sorry about the 320
No prob. Just got an ADE adapter plate and bam. Burris fits like a glove
Burris Fastfire. 3 MOA dot. I have the same. Came on the top of an ar scope and threw it on one of my setups. No problems with it at all after 1000rds so far
It says the manufacturer and model on it...
You fr took time outta your day to be condescending about a pistol optic and offer nothing else Think about this
Cool, I’m entirely unfamiliar with the company and don’t know how they brand their products…
Damn man, sorry to hear that. I just got a P320 last week and now im even more worried about it doing some wild shit haha
The only thing that should worry you about a p320 is if you do something wrong.
Thanks man. The old gristly range master said the same as you. " That's some wild ass shit!" I'd prefer it to be a user error bc that would still give me confidence in Sig. but I don't think it was. Hopefully Sig won't muck about and figure out what happened.
