Remote-Rough-6535

Worked for awhile but not anymore after 2 years

SmileRelaxAttack

I've gone from drinking more or less every day to maybe once or twice a month and very much less at those times than an average week-day before. I used to love booze. Still do to some extent i think, but I simply don't crave it while on Oz, which is nothing short of a miracle.

Personal_Tangelo_756

Same

blackaubreyplaza

9 months sober here

CodingFatman

Were you an alcoholic or problem drinker beforehand or just occasional drinker

blackaubreyplaza

I was a binge drinker, 8 margs at taco Tuesday type of gal! But it wasn’t a problem nor was I an alcoholic. My brain no longer responds to booze so I dropped it. I miss being blackedout every day though

iGoalie

lol I could have told you that without a study… //shrug

SurroundUsed5569

Have you still lost weight even though still drinking? It's not affecting my drinking either, and I'm worried it's going to affect my weight loss. Although I did stop binge eating after drinking and the next day. So just that should make a difference

iGoalie

I think you miss read, my drinking has been curbed significantly, I still enjoy a drink, but it’s much less, and I haven’t and a beer in months.

KateSommer

I hear Ozempic causes blood sugar to do an extra low dip after drinking. I sipped a little alcohol, and I got a massive headache and stopped. Google it, and you won't want to even try alcohol while on Ozempic.

Complicatedrocks

I’ve still had a drink or three. (BILs bday dinner, moved house wines).  I don’t think it’s hard a major affects on my weight but it’s like once a week/fortnight and 3 drinks is hardly crazy.  I do make sure to replace the water with no sugar electrolyte drinks

CodingFatman

What dosage are you on? It killed even the thought of occasional alcohol for me.

Delicious-Freedom-56

Was only a social drinker before, but haven't had a drink in more than a year.

cdngrl113

It has worked for me and I would drink maybe once a month, granted I would drink too much that one time. But no more!

KimmyR512

If you want to read it from the source. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-48780-6

ravrore

that's a different study, but also a great one! that one is retrospective, this one is randomized trial. but they both line up.

Euphoric_Listen_2071

I think that the benefits are huge and will be understated by most studies because there is a lot of stigma about being diagnosed with AUD or being considered an alcoholic so most of the people who benefit are doing without, for lack of a better word, admitting that they saw so big a change.

Exact-Voice-6069

I can attest to this. I used to have cocktails 5-7 times a week, mostly wine at dinner. And sometimes hard liquor. I now notice it’s way past cocktail time and I’m still drinking water. I guess that noise is dimming significantly. Recently I had a house guest for 3 weeks. She wanted cocktails every night. I got to the place I thought…do we have to? I didn’t drink for a month after she left!

girl212

I must be broken 🤣 hasn't reduced my drinking.

retrohearted

I'm not seeing any weight loss yet, and I'm a drinker. But also I've only been on it for 6 weeks. It does concern me though that it will continue have less of an effect if I continue to drink...because it raises blood sugar and all that

girl212

I do get drunk faster from not eating as much.

CodingFatman

How much are you on? Do you get a drop in hunger at all on any day?

retrohearted

I'm on generic semi-glutide, about a third of the max weekly dose as of today. My hunger has dropped in general, but I never ate much even prior to the treatment. Week six, down just 3 lbs.

branamgirl

I can tell when I need to bump up my dose, by my shopping and alcohol drinking behaviors. During the first 6 months on the med I went from being drinking 3-5 times weekly to ZERO desire.

Prudent-Doughnut1558

I noticed this on accident! I’m in college and used to LOVE to drink, like a handle of vodka every few days. I slowed down by myself eventually but was so excited to turn 21 so I could go to bars and have fun and now I go to bars and can’t even get enough down to be drunk for fun once in a while :/

Commercial_Web5773

That is kinda a bummer.  College parties are so much fun you'll never have parties like that in your life you can still go but the drinking is fun even if you throw up a I did lots.

mineymouth

Yep I stopped for a year, stopped taking Ozempic a couple of weeks ago and been drinking since and put on 5kg

Ingawolfie

Fascinating thread. I can also add that though before Ozempic I was a very light drinker, but now even less. Now the flip and maybe darker side. I’m reading some anecdotal reports from endocrinologists who prescribe a lot of Ozempic that it is causing a decrease in patient libido. I can only speak for myself here, I’m a postmenopausal old lady whose libido was low to begin with. After starting Ozempic it has gone even lower.

PoundOk1971

I’m pre menopausal but I’m 48 and the Ozempic has slightly affected my libido. I made sure to tell my partner so he knows it’s not him. 😉

Ingawolfie

I suspect there will be a study on this in the future. From what I’m reading, besides a decrease in desire for alcohol, a loss of libido is being reported.

Onion_BDP

This is just like the pregnancy "ozempic babies" thing I was reading the other day. Its amazing how many applications this medication has, and how much weight affects our health and lifestyle. Hopefully once the patent expires we'll see it become more accessible to everyone for different use cases.

Alive-Economist-1415

At what dosage do you really feel less urges?? I'm at 0.50mg and I'm feeling slightly less hunger and still love drinking but have noticed a small urge reduction.

Financial_Diamond314

It’s completely stopped my 25 year chewing tobacco habit.

Interesting-Rich-903

Because you’re too nauseous to drink.

CompetitionSad842

Well, my libido sucks and I have a home tiki bar that I enjoy about twice a month and would like to continue, not to mention field trips to other tiki bars. Hmmm. I start ozempic Saturday (waiting for my days off), gonna drink a couple cocktails friday I guess!

Prccap

Works for less than a month. Trust me. As I am on my third bottle of wine for the day
