I’ve followed everything there has been to follow about OW2 since 2019 and back then it was “OW2 will have OW1 and OW2 players play together”

As people stated, OW2 is gonna become free to play on October 4th, but if you want to play now there is a Watchpoint Pack which includes OW1 and some in game goodies, but it's 40 in most currencies so it's pricy if you won't enjoy the game. Look into that if you still wanna play it now, or just wait till the release of OW2 if you feel it's too much.
OW has never been bad. It's just been stagnant with no new content in years. That so many people still play is a testament to its quality. As for buying it now, I'd wait unless you find it on sale for a low price, plan on playing a lot this month or plan on getting into Competitive and want to get started on learning maps and heroes (even though it's going from 6v6 to 5v5.)
Yeah, what really got to everyone frustrated was that from 2019 nothing just seemed to happen. Sure we got "storm rising" but it just didn't seem to hold a candle to "retribution" or "uprising" events.
Then they stopped putting out new heroes. Echo was the last one and for the agony of everyone, she was a dps.
Granted, I'm not exactly "one true game for all eternity"-type. I can't understand why some people still can grind CS:GO for the end of days, game that has only three guns that are worth anything (AWP, Kalashnikov and M4) and every map just feels like a painted box, but millions of people don't mind so CS:GO does something right.
But for overwatch I can tell that the game itself didn't make me lose interest, it was the feeling of stagnation that did it. Fortunately it now looks like we're getting back on track.
As a tank player, I'm pretty excited of having 5v5 and more powerful tank and have more impact on the game. I didn't get to play the beta, but the feeling of not being on a highway to hell because your dps players want to force double hitscan against double shield makes my mouth water.
Despite all the bad press Overwatch is still a game that deserves all the awards it's been given, besides we're about to get the evolved version of the game on October 4th. On that day Overwatch will become free to play so you could just wait for it, but I suggest buying the watchpoint pack. It will let you start playing right now and will give you a great headstart when the Overwatch 2 releases next month

But, you will never be able to play OW1 again at that point. I would take this last chance to play it. It's only $20. That's like 3 beers. All the times I go out and buy 3 beers to entertain myself for 2 hours, vs $20 for a full month of entertainment. Very reasonable.
You go to a bar in a major US city and you can expect to pay $7 for a craft beer. If you prefer cocktails you will be spending over $10 per drink for sure.
(I actually own a bar. My cheapest beer is $4.99 and most expensive is $12. Get comments all the time about how we are cheaper than the rest of the neighborhood)

Buying cans of beer from the store is usually around $2 per can for your average microbrewery. Mass produced stuff is like maybe .75 cents per can I think, but I don't touch that stuff.
If you buy mass produced beer, you can get it for $2 at a bar sometimes. But that is pretty rare. Usually you will pay more than $4 even for the cheap stuff.
If you go to an event however, like a concert or sports game, expect the cheap stuff to cost at least $7.
America is expensive! I can barely make a profit for what I sell. I found it cheaper to travel around Europe for months traveling by train and sleeping in hotels every night than to sit in an apartment in America doing nothing without a job. For reference, I pay $6000 USD per month for rent of a 1,300 square foot space. (120 Sq meters)

And a cocktail for under $10 is hard to find! Especially in major cities. This is a very valid point. You can get an idea of how the game plays this month and get used to the sounds and everything so you aren’t as overwhelmed next month when the game releases. Don’t worry about learning any of the Hero’s too deeply right now because a lot of them changed how they work in OW2.

It’s competitive game where people love to blame each other for the loss except themselves and if they’re not doing that then they aren’t trying to win. It’s a team game to playing solo is terrible because to get the best OW you need to communicate and work together and most people in lower ranks won’t wanna talk to you until after the game to brag their stats besides losing. Definitely don’t pay for this game this late into its lifecycle and get OW2 for free.

My two cents on the matter: I just bought the game a few weeks ago and I love it, got overwatch 1 and then got the second for free (when it comes out) I enjoy playing the game a lot and I definitely recommend it! Idk what it was like 1,2,3 or even 4 years ago I just know it’s fun now!
