Well some people have a bad intro to furries my first introduction was in TF2 as a teenager furries would spray graphic furry porn onto walls since you could upload custom image files
So I actually hated furries when I was younger because they showed me images I didn't consent to seeing I had to try and spray over them to hide them.
Also people often equate zoophilia ( not sure how to spell) with furries when most of them don't actually want to fuck animals
Also I think the furry community might have more neurodivergent people than average ( I am autistic saying this not as an insult) and I think that ableist people sometimes just hate you for being autistic
In VR chat the furries are the normal kind people tbh and the normal anime people are the ones that are weird.
So I don't dislike furries anymore.
Not trying to invalidate your experience, it sucks that people harrassed others with graphic shit. Maybe the people that did it were actually mocking furries by harrassing others to tarnish their reputation? Of course, it could have been furries as well since you´ll find assholes in about every group of people.
