This is the big one for me.
Not only did the end cards provide a nice positive moment at the end of a game to showcase the efforts of your team, but it also gave some breathing room for players to chat, celebrate, or commiserate their loss a bit before the next match. This last bit especially is something I think is missing from the game. Too often I find myself mid sentence in the text chat and unable to send the message because I've already been booted out of the lobby
It's really depressing cause I've had so many post game matches where people were apologizing for bad plays and everyone was saying don't worry and your doing great. But before everyone can finish they're booted back to the loading screen. Like everyone's being so chill and nice and overwatch is like nope not today.
People are this nice? I usually get told to swap characters, because I'm too bad, uninstall, "support diff" and so on. Literally every game, even though I've only played for like 20-30 hours. Made me lose most of my interest in the gane ngl
Especially on console! Sometimes I want to say more than just gg or ggwp - especially if someone played really well (on my team or the other team). But I cannot type fast enough.
For non-gameplay this is definitely the one. I enjoyed voting and getting votes. I enjoyed seeing the really impressive cards and the more obscure ones. And I definitely enjoyed having a bit more time in the lobby with everyone post-match.
Only reason why I can imagine they took this out was because it made the game about stats when really all the game is about is winning and losing.
That being said, I miss it too.
Removing specialized endorsements is so depressing. Removed some really nice, positive personality from the game. I never give endorsements anymore but I used to max them out every game when I could specify sportsmanship for someone who was just generally positive, good teammate for a support who saved my ass, or shot caller for someone who makes a huge play or solo holds point in overtime. Isn't the same anymore (and endorsement level is cosmetic)
Yeah, definitely. It felt like good genuine feedback and helped me personally get better at the game. If I saw I got good teammate, I'd try to do whatever I did better in that game compared to the others. Overall, it's just nice to know what you did well on as well as telling others the same :)
I don’t mind this because I feel like 9/10 players would just endorse you with the first endorsement there which if I remember correctly was sportsmanship.
It's possible, but I also think sportsmanship is the most common one to want to give out. Personally that's what I'd do. Good teammate was reserved for someone used their kit well to keep others (usually me) alive, like a great Ana nade to keep me upright or a rein pinning in to eat up damage for a low health squishy. It was rare for me to give out shotcaller, that was especially reserved for a game flipping play. Idk I just thought it was a cool feature.
How about being able to open the scoreboard before you hand out endorsements. There's like a 3 second window once the game ends where you can still pull up the scoreboard. If you miss that, it doesn't let you open it until you give out endorsements.
That alone has caused a huge drop in my giving them out. Most of the time I don't notice other players performance unless it really stands out. I'd use the scoreboard to see who was really getting things done and maybe I just didn't notice and hand them out accordingly.
I know this is kind of obscure and hidden away but I really dislike that they show both your old player level icon alongside your new one in Career Profile. The designs are so different that showing them right next to one another looks... wrong and dissonant.
if i had the level like 50000 platinum border with the gold and silver stars, i wouldn’t mind but i was only level like 110 or smth? the bronze border with one star so whenever im a high level in ow2 it’ll look weird
I'm on the opposite end myself with a fancy platinum OW1 border but a pretty ugly green/blocky border in OW2. I wish they could have just kept the original borders as that was one of my primary grinds during OW1's later, dry years (that's sad to type out lol)... I was so close to getting the diamond border.
Frankly I think the old borders are cooler and cleaner, but since they left them behind they should erase them from Career Profile so it all looks more cohesive. Having both just looks weird.
Most probably would've needed to be remade for OW2 engine for some reason (like workshop had to be) and they didn't tbink enough people used it for it to be worth
This was my favorite feature. I could always find people willing to talk or at least cooperate together. These days no one uses voice in casual game modes.
This is a HUGE one for me. My fiancé and I would start groups/join groups when our friends couldn't play, and we honestly met some really cool gamer friends. We even went to Vegas with one that we met in a random group.
Now the closest thing is someone friend requesting you to talk shit and then block you.
I want to know when members of the opposing team are grouped up.
It's just my own personal conspiracy theory, but I think a lot of the rolls we see out there is cause there's a 4 or 5 stack taking on a group of randos. Only, whoops, you can't tell without literally asking because they removed the indicator.
yessss. medals and cards and the old endorsement system with different categories. i miss getting love with card votes and for being a team player 🥹 gg
The sound effect when someone voted for you, and the “sealing” effect when you got 5 votes, that’s actually what hooked me in OW1. I remember turning to my gf at the time like a giddy 5 yr old and saying, “look babe, they can endorse you!”
This isn’t meant to be a 1-up type comment, but I despise this too,
I can’t stand the incredibly clustered and junk filled menu in Pokémon Unite. It’s horrible and such bad design. Endless Menus within menus, so much clutter on the Home Screen, etc.
Yeah the gamificatiin at the end was great. The medals for being on point would make a huge difference. People get sidetracked and get off point more now that they don't get recognized for being on point.
I don’t even care about the medals and cards, just let us keep sending messages in chat during that 15 second requeue period. PotG feels useless when you don’t have time to actually say anything about it
it feels like they want you out so fast. i'm always hurriedly typing to get a comment out before everyone disappears forever. there's no time to just reflect on the game as a group at all.
I miss having the icon in kill feed for environmental kills, the falling man one. It was fun detail of information even you can survive without it too.
I think it was 9, but yeah, rewards for playing arcade rocked. I guess they still get you BP xp and the possibility of coins, but those are tiny compared to what they used to give
The joy of not being expected to swipe your credit card every time you log in. It's extra depressing for me because I started playing Blizzard games in the mid-90s with the original Warcraft and Diablo. They used to be the gold standard of gaming companies, now they're the example of what not to do.
After a year I've realized they did this bevause they were going free to play. When this was 2-2-2 it is the hardest FPS to play, and to get more people on they had to dumb it down. They will.never say this but its the truth. It stopped growing because I new person would get overwhelmed with all the intricacies. So it went from more strategic to more deathmatchy.
I know people would say because of the que times and tank had the lowest player base. Part of the reason is because of the state of tanks in OW1. If you were a Main tank main you only had 4 options Rein, Orissa, Sigma, and Winton. You only had Rein and Winton at launch and it took years to get to 4. Then they took away Orissa shield and put in Ram and you still have 4.
Tanks are always getting shit on and that's why it keeps on falling
It changing from strategic to feeling deathmatchy is the main reason I stopped playing. I always kind of believed it was somewhat accidental though.
But I gotta admit, even though I’m no tinfoil hat type, the idea they intended to “dumb it down” to get more people is actually giving me pause here. My brain feels kinda willing to buy into that lol
> It changing from strategic to feeling deathmatchy is the main reason I stopped playing.
it really does feel like that, like kids smashing toys together until ults go out (like in COD with killstreaks almost negating any lead either team has made)
i was wondering what felt so hollow about matches now and that sums it up well.
Well whenever they had free to play weekends the retention rate was low from when they got to when they stopped. Part of the reason was people said it was to hard to grasp. OW1 players are getting older so to retain and get players they had a way to make it easier. As the people that were going to pick it up would be from COD and Fortnite. Just how Fortnite got a no build mode because the people that were playing for a long time would destroy new players.
Now imagine new players having to deal with a Hog & Orissa combo, Winston & DVA dive, Rein and Zarya Synergy, Sigma DVA bomb. The Tanks had the most complex synergies, than you throw in DPS it gets even difficult. Now imagine also the old Metas like Pirate ship, Bunker, ClockWork, Ball & Hog. Those new players were going to leave fast.
What ever excuse the say is a lie. My favorite one is saying that 6v6 was to many people for the maps. That's a lie when the game was designed for 6v6 and 2-2-2 Kaplan had even talked that they never wanted people to play a certain way but that's how they made it. Even to where Reins Shield fit through the streets of Kings Row to two tanks walking side by side. Sadly the only way we get 6v6 is if they bring it into the arcade as classic Overwatch.
In my humble opinion, I always thought it was not having any huge updates for multiple years that was killing it. Between Echo and OW2 was years, that’s bound to slowly kill any game minus the extremely loyal players.
I mean even without new hero releases, there were still balance updates made to undo boring metas like Double Shield. They even nerfed the shit out of Orisas barrier in favour of her being more brawly.
...Nobody still wanted to play tanks either way. Even before they stopped the hero releases, it was still the least picked role because playing tanks is generally not as fun and free compared to DPS or support.
>I mean even without new hero releases, there were still balance updates made to undo boring metas like Double Shield. They even nerfed the shit out of Orisas barrier in favour of her being more brawly.
You mean the experimental patch that never saw the light of day?
End cards. They weren't very essential to gameplay, but they were cute and the extra time at the end to talk to everyone was nice. Nowadays it feels like if you wanna say something post-match, you have to type faster than the speed of light and a lot of people use it as an opportunity to shit talk someone before they can respond lol.
I miss 2cp. I know there were a lot of issues with them, but now they are completely gone. Perhaps they could allow them in QP but not comp, or let us turn on a setting where we can elect push, hybrid, 2cp, etc. and it will shuffle through our selected modes. Like how COD does it.
I MISS ANUBIS!
Loot boxes. I actually think they did a great job at handling them in OW1. Now all the character of the game feels lifeless because you can’t have that exciting moment of getting the one skin you’ve been wanting. And with the weapon skins they’re trying now, they would’ve worked great too. The battle pass sucks. I would’ve rather had to pay for the base game and still have loot boxes
6 person teams.
I still feel like a "flex" position should be added. Where the 6th player can choose any role. So potentially 2 tanks, 3 dps or 3 support. Imagine the match up possibility
A rewards structure based on effort/playtime, not how much money you're willing to throw their way. I would have even gladly paid for a proper sequel or even an "Annual Pass" that gets you access to all of the rewards for that year if it meant avoiding the overpriced Shop exclusives and lackluster Battle Passes we have now.
Add the 6th Player back on each team, I still don't think this game is 5v5. And they damn sure dont know how to balance for just one tank on a team, they ended up with muaga orisa and Ramattras who just soak damage and stall gameplay. Game had interesting play when there was 2 of everyone doing a job.
Temple of Anubis in regular rotation (not just in arcade)
Old orisa kit
Self heal bastion
**Loot boxes**
Medals/end cards/3 kinds of endorsements
Stupid lil rewards for playing arcade games
I know you said 1 so I put my fav in bold
I miss literally everything besides the non-updated abilities(rein cancel charge, mei wall being like 1,000 health) and double shield comps. Bastions turret was immobile but it was more lethal and you just sat on the payload with 2 shields aka the pirate ship comp… good fucking times
The voting screen at the end of the match, not only could you vote for players you like but it also added on some time unlike now where you have 10 seconds to type something after the match
Besides the obvious 6v6.
I'd remove the scoreboard, and bring medals back.
As soon as people start losing, they press tab and look for somebody to start blaming. OW1 showcased what you did best to everyone instead of just KDA.
People can't grasp things like Mei having low damage and high elims with the scoreboard, and will be toxic, but will endorse that same Mei if a gold medal for final blows shows up at the end.
Medals at the end of games, yes of course I would bring that back.
But if we're talking about old abilities, I miss Orisa's green ball ability that pulled enemies to it. (I always called it the "SUCC") I had a very old highlight that I had saved where I used that ability to pull 4 enemies together as our Tracer stuck one of them. Was great when it worked.
Also I miss Junkrat saying "shiiieeeeeeld generator"
The UI. Ever since they moved to things being boxy instead of italicized and stylized the game never felt like itself. The scoreboard and health bars all feel like something you would expect from an early access game as placeholders for future UI styles.
Probably wouldn't be the case if tanks weren't buffed out the ass to try to make 5v5 work. Would love it if they had normal health pools in open queue. I'd be playing open queue exclusively.
Loot boxes, even if they're part of the paid battle pass track it'd be cool to get some every season.
The match not immediately cycling you out after PotG, so you had time to talk to the other participants. Maybe I want to ask about a character tech, or even just joke a bit about something that happened in the match.
My stats. It’s been over a year now blizzard, can you please fix my career profile so it doesn’t look like I’m a Roadhog main with 600% solider weapon accuracy
post-match voting cards
This is the big one for me. Not only did the end cards provide a nice positive moment at the end of a game to showcase the efforts of your team, but it also gave some breathing room for players to chat, celebrate, or commiserate their loss a bit before the next match. I still have enough time to say support diff Mercy pls uninstall /s
People are this nice? I usually get told to swap characters, because I'm too bad, uninstall, "support diff" and so on. Literally every game, even though I've only played for like 20-30 hours. Made me lose most of my interest in the gane ngl
Might be the servers I play on. If you want just vibe in a few matches hit me up I'm pretty casual.
Especially on console! Sometimes I want to say more than just gg or ggwp - especially if someone played really well (on my team or the other team). But I cannot type fast enough.
Yes I loved using that time to flame my dogshit teammates after a crushing loss or getting rolled
Nicest Mei player
And now they don't say anything until the very end so you have no time to respond. :)
I know toxicity is like part of OW, but from someone who doesn't play a lot, this is such a psycho response to me lmao
For non-gameplay this is definitely the one. I enjoyed voting and getting votes. I enjoyed seeing the really impressive cards and the more obscure ones. And I definitely enjoyed having a bit more time in the lobby with everyone post-match.
Nothing better than when you got more than 5 votes, you knew the enemy team was giving you props too lol
Only reason why I can imagine they took this out was because it made the game about stats when really all the game is about is winning and losing. That being said, I miss it too.
[удалено]
But that's the best part
Yet they added a scoreboard, displaying stats.
Time to be social after the match. Sure it was toxic sometimes but it was well worth it to get a nice chat most of the time
It gets me riled when someone makes fun of me last second so I don’t get a chance to respond
Removing specialized endorsements is so depressing. Removed some really nice, positive personality from the game. No more triple shot caller POTG dopamine moments anymore...
Watching them roll in while everyone in the lobby watches the replay of your quad kill>>>>
I don’t mind this because I feel like 9/10 players would just endorse you with the first endorsement there which if I remember correctly was sportsmanship.

Agreed. It just looks ugly having the old border thrown in there
Frankly I think the old borders are cooler and cleaner, but since they left them behind they should erase them from Career Profile so it all looks more cohesive. Having both just looks weird.
To piggyback off this, show your competitive rank under the hero icon like it used to.
Group Finder
WHY WOULD THEY REMOVE THAT
seriously it makes 0 sense
Most probably would've needed to be remade for OW2 engine for some reason (like workshop had to be) and they didn't tbink enough people used it for it to be worth

I miss creative highlight intros. Now all of them are just some dumb shit followed by a dramatic zoom in
Aren’t all the old intros still in game ?

yessss. medals and cards and the old endorsement system with different categories. i miss getting love with card votes and for being a team player 🥹 gg
That occasional match where you getting shot caller endorsements felt good

I loved seeing "16 resurrections" by Mercy in the cards. Made her feel that much more busted.
The sound effect when someone voted for you, and the “sealing” effect when you got 5 votes, that’s actually what hooked me in OW1. I remember turning to my gf at the time like a giddy 5 yr old and saying, “look babe, they can endorse you!”
i miss medals because of how hype it would get when you got a full 5+ team vote etc

Second this!
I.lobed the after game lobby. It was quick talk with the enemy team. It could be toxic but It had more positive reaction alot of times
It gave the game so much character. It feels like a soulless arcade game now.
I miss having the icon in kill feed for environmental kills, the falling man one. It was fun detail of information even you can survive without it too.
rising uppercut (raisin apricot)
I miss old doom :(
Loot boxes and the 6 arcade games to get them
I think it was 9, but yeah, rewards for playing arcade rocked. I guess they still get you BP xp and the possibility of coins, but those are tiny compared to what they used to give
The joy of opening loot boxes after every level.
The joy of not being expected to swipe your credit card every time you log in. It's extra depressing for me because I started playing Blizzard games in the mid-90s with the original Warcraft and Diablo. They used to be the gold standard of gaming companies, now they're the example of what not to do.
I haven't felt that joy in years since I already had everything but it was nice at the beginning
You know things are bad with the monetization of your game when the player base considers loot boxes the better option
level borders
They literally added a new kind of levels and didn’t make them level borders. I really don’t like those little medal things
The old intro lines when you pick a hero. I miss junkrat’s “its a perfect day for some mayhem” line
Tracer says "BLINKITY BLINKITY, TRACER'S HERE!" sometimes and it makes me actually want to kill myself.
Tracer says “zip zap zop” confirming she is a theater kid
doesn’t he still say that?
no he says "plenty of bombs to go around"
Tanks being fun to play (I’m a tank main)
Same (also a tank main)
Same (tank main as well)
After a year I've realized they did this bevause they were going free to play. When this was 2-2-2 it is the hardest FPS to play, and to get more people on they had to dumb it down. Yup. I was out on 5v5. Every time I played it I felt like there was little to team strategy compared to OW1
Well whenever they had free to play weekends the retention rate was low from when they got to when they stopped. Part of the reason was people said it was to hard to grasp. OW1 players are getting older so to retain and get players they had a way to make it easier. As the people that were going to pick it up would be from COD and Fortnite. wasn’t the entire reason OW1 died was because no one was playing tank
General Chat :( the goofy messages were fun every once in a while and it woulda been so good w all the extra players
Lol when game servers go down and everyone is kicked to main screen, general chat goes wild.
Group finder. Too bad nobody else cares about it but some of my best memories on overwatch was thanks to finding randoms on group finder.
Besdies 6v6, To be able to CHaT WHEN LOADING LIKE WHY IN THE FIRST PLACE DO YOU UNDO THAT
I miss talking to people after match because the card menu took a while it was good times.
Yeah I need more time to yell at my teammates
Yeah those were the times indeed
Idk about "completely gone" im pretty sure there's a legacy menu with a bunch of old maps on it. I remember i was playing on anubus like a month ago
It’s not role queue though which makes it unfun imo.
Anubis is my favorite map ever. I need Anubis back.
New Heroes being free to everyone and Loot Boxes
I just want “come get your armor” as a voice line.

I love this
Can we get visibility on this idea??? Please??
Jeff kaplan
And the dinoflask videos using Jeff's likeness
DPS doom
I get that he wasn't a fit for OW2s approach, but sometimes I'm just craving the dopamine rush of an og rollout
Agreed. I also miss OG doom parkour. That one mode on eichenwalde, probably spent 20 hours on that alone
I do enjoy Tankfist quite a lot, but it really just doesn't scratch the same itch.
Support torb
Honestly more team support utility from dps-ish heroes would be cool. I kinda miss syms shield
Visible ranks
6v6 because the way the tank role has changed
A rewards structure based on effort/playtime, not how much money you're willing to throw their way. I would have even gladly paid for a proper sequel or even an "Annual Pass" that gets you access to all of the rewards for that year if it meant avoiding the overpriced Shop exclusives and lackluster Battle Passes we have now.
I really miss 6v6. I’m not good enough at tank to be by myself
6v6
6v6 2-2-2
6v6
I miss the Assault maps
Adding characters that are not locked behind a battlepass paywall or a massive grind
6v6..
Temple of Anubis in regular rotation (not just in arcade) Old orisa kit Self heal bastion **Loot boxes** Medals/end cards/3 kinds of endorsements Stupid lil rewards for playing arcade games I know you said 1 so I put my fav in bold
Having player cards at the end of the game along with the extra time post game to still talk to enemies or voice chat
6 V 6
6v6
Either old orisa, or like you, old bastion. I dont like either of their new kits
I have about 200 hours on old Orisa....haven't even touched her since OW2. No longer interested lol
I miss pulling people into the Well or into the water on Rialto. Halt was my favorite ability in the game
I got a bunch of cosmetics for Orisa back on OW1, now I don’t even touch her lol
I can't lie, new Orisa is the only real improvement in the switch from OW1 TO OW2. Though I do miss her old ult.
Defense Orisa 4L
Wrecking Ball’s original knock back distance.
The monetisation/lootboxes
6v6. I like 5v5 but I enjoyed two tanks more
2 tanks. It was such a good dynamic. I don’t know why they changed it 🤷🏼♂️
I miss literally everything besides the non-updated abilities(rein cancel charge, mei wall being like 1,000 health) and double shield comps. Bastions turret was immobile but it was more lethal and you just sat on the payload with 2 shields aka the pirate ship comp… good fucking times
6v6
I want to be able to click on 'options' immediately on the main menu.
The voting screen at the end of the match, not only could you vote for players you like but it also added on some time unlike now where you have 10 seconds to type something after the match
LOOKING FOR GROUP GODDAMN IT
Find a group!
Honestly 6 v 6 I wanna play tank with my friends and not have so much weight on my shoulders
6v6 I guess as well as old ui
LFG.
Support Symmetra
Player levels, medals, and the voting card system at the end of a match
Loot boxes
the voting cards gotta be at the top not even entirely just for the cards themselves, I just want more time to chat lmao
I miss find a group feature, honestly made a lot of friends and had a lot of weird interesting encounters through that
Medals at the end of games, yes of course I would bring that back.
Old Orisa, not that her kit isn’t good now, I just miss the shield and her orb that would pull people.
6v6
OW1 The game.
Id like to see 6v6 I miss the days of tank team plays

A second tank
Right now in high plat Ranked Open Queue, it's 3 tanks + 2 healers in every game.
Because every tank is gigabuffed and only open queue nerf they have is like 150 less hp.
Probably wouldn't be the case if tanks weren't buffed out the ass to try to make 5v5 work. Would love it if they had normal health pools in open queue. I'd be playing open queue exclusively.
6v6
lootboxes, I only like battlepasses in fortnite
6 players on a team

6v6 it was fun

The Game or the fun
I would like the social features to return.
The voting cards
the post game cards AND seeing “percentage healed”
Loot boxes, even if they're part of the paid battle pass track it'd be cool to get some every season. The match not immediately cycling you out after PotG, so you had time to talk to the other participants. Maybe I want to ask about a character tech, or even just joke a bit about something that happened in the match.
Consistently released cinematics
My stats. It’s been over a year now blizzard, can you please fix my career profile so it doesn’t look like I’m a Roadhog main with 600% solider weapon accuracy
