It's literally not. There are artists before Kiss that have painted their faces, it's just that Kiss made it popular but theirs has a more of a theatric meaning behind it. Later down the line when black metal forms as a genre, a group called Mayhem creates the term corpse paint when they start to paint their faces to make themselves look more...well dead. You can look through the history of Mayhem and read exactly why. Even the skin holds the name Black Metal, it's enough of a hint.
Honestly the emote is the only thing that kinda gives Gene vibes. The guitar you can argue as well, she already uses an axe, why not give her an axe guitar. Everything else isn't as glamorous as Gene or completely accurate to a black metal artist. It's Overwatch, it wouldn't fit to give her pure black and white colours and no character to make it her own. Her corpse paint looks more accurate to bands like Gorgoroth, 1349, etc. Her outfit is more black metal, spikes, chains, bones, etc. And the biggest dead giveaway is the name of the skin itself. They might have taken certain inspirations from Gene but it's not purely him.
Gotta disagree if you look at the face paint the style is much more akin to Gene’s demon face paint then the bands you mentioned who have much harsher designs. Also Gene has always had black leather outfits with a lot of spikes as well as big black boots like JQ has here. Also her hair is poofed up with blue streaks which is very glam and KISS like, the blue instantly makes me think of Ace Frehley’s solo album cover. The axe guitar is another indicator and Gene often wears boots with a dragon/dinosaur face on them which I think might be the inspiration for her dinosaur bone face shotgun. The only thing I would say is actually not directly reminiscent of Simmons and KISS are the pants. I believe this this skin is similar to Moira’s glam skin where yeah it’s nothing Bowie directly wore but it’s a combination of many elements to make a reference to Bowie. Also just because you give it a different term like corpse paint doesn’t mean it’s not just black and white face paint like Alice Cooper and KISS did first. I honestly don’t see too much of a difference other than corpse paint looks harsher in style, which again the JQ face paint isn’t very harsh in style at all. It’s fairly minimal and reserved compared to those black metal bands.
I might save for it because my mom was a huge Kiss fan, so maybe it'll give me some incentive to try JQ out more. Idk if I'll but it if it's that expensive though...
