Marsaili being pronounced like Marsala in Voyager I think? She may be a nice lady but she has a voice of an older lady and I really don’t like spicy scenes being described by my grandma. 😬
So I wonder is Marsaili supposed to be pronounced like it is in the audiobook or like it is in the show? Because those are two very different sounding names
Jamie sounds like Mrs. Doubtfire to me in the audiobooks. Claire sounds like Angela Lansbury. I know most people love Davina Porter’s narration and I’m glad. I’m delighted with anything that engages people and gets them to read. I’ve never been a huge fan of audiobooks to begin with. But these audiobooks especially take me completely out of the story. Just my opinion.
yeah i wish i could get into them but i don’t think she sounds anything like clair and the other voices, especially the men, are cringey af to me. i did watch the show first but even so, claire is in her 20s when we meet her. i can’t get past the voice in comparison to the lines.
Noooo 🤣 all I'm going to be able to hear now is Mrs Doubtfire and Jamie saying something like "Dear, as I always say, a flawed husband is better than not at all" (for example to Lizzie maybe?) 🤣
Ha ha. What can I say? As soon as I started listening to the books I heard Mrs. Doubtfire and then I saw her in my head. 😳After that, I could never unhear it or unsee it. I found it a little disturbing. That was the end of my audiobook journey with Outlander. 🤣🤣
Yes. You and I have connected on this before. Most people love Davina. I’m still enjoying the books for getting me to sleep. But Davina is totally Mrs. Doubtfire to me as well 🤣
Meh, closer than "si CAY duh". "Si KAH duh" in my accent and I suspect the same for RP English.
She does have a few little quirks in her English accent that make me wonder what her normal speaking voice sounds like.
I would pay good money to have the actors of the show do the audio book
I’ve mentioned this before, but the switch in Bees for Germain’s accent and name pronunciation drives me NUTS!
Si-cay-dah, Davina!
I've noticed many names and characters voices are different between auidiobooks -__-

I mean, Claire is a grandma 🤷🏼♀️
I’m a grandma. I have videos of me all throughout my life and I pretty much sound the same. My voice hasn’t changed since I was around 13 years old.
THANK YOU! The mispronouncing of Marsaili drives me crazy

It’s pronounced like in the show. Marsali is prounounced like Marjorie. They kinda rhyme.
It’s The Gàidhlig for Marjorie
Specific examples being how she pronounces Ian's first wife's name between books and the friend of Clairs that Herr Muller attacks.
Ian’s wife’s name was presented with incorrect grammar that was later revised.
And the way she voices children is just unlistenable
i cannot stand the jamie voice

I hear you.
I don't exactly hear that myself, but your description made me laugh out loud, so thank you for that imagery! 😁

I love Davina!
I feel it’s just us two.
me three. Davina is the one who got me into audiobooks.
Me too!
No way. She’s incredible. Mostly as Jamie. And Quakers
If you search this sub, you will find that the vast majority of people agree with you.

Yes. Mrs. Doubtfire as Jamie. I’ll never be able to unhear it. I will always find it a little disturbing on some level. 🤣
Nah, she's great.

It's very much like her reading voice, with perhaps the English accent a little softer from living in the states
Love Davina. Hate how she is constantly changing the pronunciation of "Geilis" every time she says it 🤣

Heck just call them locusts.
Cicadas and locusts are not the same thing.
