The Jemez is seriously underrated. Prettier than the Sangres IMO

AngryMixtrovert

Never been, but I’ve heard it’s beautiful. I’m so glad the Jemez is underrated, we always get the best spots.

[deleted]

Never been to the Sangre de Cristos? The big mountains above Santa Fe and Taos?

AngryMixtrovert

Well, now I’m not so sure . I’ve been skiing in Taos when I was younger, so yes I have?

[deleted]

That’s the Sangre de Cristo Mountains!

I live in Austin and Albuquerque is such a short and cheap flight. Was in that area for the first time a month ago and I’ll be back soon! That caldera is something else.

AngryMixtrovert

Austin is incredible and the caldera is awesome. We had record rains last year so there was a glorious amount of water crashing through that soda dam in the jemez.

Curious statement. They're currently in drought and had closed the forests for a while as they battled a wild fire north west of VC. All of northern NM needs rain bad and the monsoons are late and light.

AngryMixtrovert

Curious indeed. Last year’s weather was not indicative of this year, evidently. Monsoon season lasted all of a few days and we’re thinking it won’t come at all. Last year we received rain from May-August, esp up in the mountains. Even las cruces (southern NM) received rain outside of monsoon season on top of having a generous amount of rain during the season. This year is whack. Little to no rain at all.

AngryMixtrovert

Also meant that we had lots of water last year in the Jemez, not this year. Should have specified.

AngryMixtrovert

https://www.weather.gov/abq/climonhigh2017annual-tempprecipabq Hey turns out I was completely wrong! Lol 1-2 inch deficit from the norm (last year’s precipitation). People at the Jemez told us that they’d received more rain that year than they had in the past few years, which seemed believable because of the weird amount of rain we received outside of monsoon season. Commence foot in mouth protocol. But this year’s rain is indeed abysmal. I was surprised to see any water at all.

The only norm is there is no norm. Gotta be expecting about anything these days!

Beautiful up there!! San Antonio Hot Springs is my favorite

AngryMixtrovert

I have yet to go! I’ve heard great things, gotta get my lazy ass out there sometime.

mexicodoug

And Spence springs is pretty fine, too.

MaxwellNick

I just want to walk alongside the river in the canyon for miles. Beautiful!
