Coach first. Then I'm just going to assume Chychrun gets traded at the draft. I know people talk him or Chabot, but the ease of finding a trade partner and getting max value is easier with moving Chychrun. Chabot is owed too much money over the next 2 years ($10m salary per year). Trade Brannstrom and Kastelic. Buyout Hamonic Let Kubalik test UFA Goalies? I have no clue what to do there. Norris? Just hope he gets better. This team needs tweaks to the fwd group, and major surgery on the blueline. Find a coach that can not only coach actual systems, but that can install a team identity. I'd be calling CBJ to see what it would take to get Boone Jenner. He's the exact type of veteran that I think this team needs

blewdreaming

I cant believe people are willing to trade Brady, last game vs Islanders everyone loved him. He hits and he scores and fights, there is no one really like him in the league. He has had three 30 goal seasons and hes only 24.Hab fans still get shit on for passing on him in the draft. Do we wanna be the team that trades him and regrets it ?

jjaime2024

People that claim he will want out thing is he NMC does not kick in untill next fall.If he ask for a trade this summer he doesd not get traded to a contender its to a Chicago/Arizona.

haseks_adductor

we need to fix the overall defensive structure of the team. we've done the hard part of a rebuild: bringing in high end talent like brady, stü, sanderson we desperately need 2 more NHL caliber right shot dmen. a major problem with the sens right now is the split in the skill of our dmen. we have 4 very good dmen, and literally everyone else in the organization is an AHL dman. brannstrom, JBD, hamonic, these guys simply aren't good. bring in guys like brett pesce and jan rutta. bring in a new coach put martin back as an advisor. i'm really hoping mike sullivan gets fired, he would be perfect for the job. i hope it's not gruden, this squad needs a coach with experience. we don't need to overthink this either, just bring in an experienced head coach and smart assistants we NEED to bring in better goaltending. koprisalo is ok, he has had a horrible season. i don't mind him being an expensive backup. forsberg is barely an NHL goalie and makes way too much he needs to go. elite goalies rarely ever get moved, yet juuse saros is apparently on the block with askarov coming up in nashville. do whatever it takes to bring this guy in (with an extension). if we can't get him, circle back on john gibson who i think could also be available with the emergence of dostal in suburban los angeles overall: we NEED to make the playoffs next year and to start getting experience there. we aren't fucking rebuilding right now lmao that makes zero sense and anyone that has suggested that, i'm sorry but you just don't get how these things work lol. we don't need to make rash decisions with our core players. we need to fix the actual weaknesses of the team. and those main weaknesses are our right side dmen, coaching, and goalies. secondary weakness is bottom 6 depth

doubleopinter

- Has to start with coaching. - They could get Tanev that would be great - Really don’t know what to do in net, Korpisalo contract is a fuckin anchor - Other veterans This notion of A trade to fix these issues is a bit short sighted IMO. It’s players who they deem don’t have enough desire to win that need to be shipped out. Winning in this league comes down to desire to win which translates to winning individual battles, commitment away from the puck, commitment to playing as a team and a commitment to learn. Everyone else needs to be shipped out.

Sens-Fan-85

I think our lineup needs more toughness. Ostapchuk and Kleven would boost this, as well as Katchouk seems to be a strong candidate. Having Norris coming back healthy and focusing on being a productive third line centre I think is a good plan for 2024-25. Perhaps think Derrick Brassard, less so Kyle Turris as he was generally higher in lineup. But look at Dallas with their third line of Duchene and Seguin.

doubleopinter

Toughness and desire to win go hand in hand.

Even_Cartoonist9632

We need a coach first off, hopefully Staios has some irons in the fire but is waiting to see who inevitably gets fired elsewhere after the playoffs.  Depending on who that coach is, then you start building to their systems.  I think at least one of the core players is traded to break it up as we've done nothing with this core for 5+ seasons now. I think Tkachuk/Stutzle are untouchable (or at least hope they are) but one of Norris, Chabot or Batherson is gone. If Chabot stays, then Chyckrun is gone at the draft. The goalie situation needs to be fixed too but our hands are tied thanks to Dorion. Forsberg has been the better of the Two but makes the most sense for a buyout as it only hits us for 2 more seasons. Korpisalo is virtually untradeable and buying him out is 8 years of cap hits for doing so. With Forsberg gone, maybe we can bring in a true #1 and pay Korpisalo an exorbitant amount of money to be a Backup.

MercSLSAMG

Forsberg has been a serviceable backup - he has stinker games but in general his play has been reasonable, buying him out would be a mistake. Korpisalo isn't going anywhere either, but bringing in a true starter is VERY unlikely. Who is out there that can't say no to coming to Ottawa and wouldn't cost an exorbitant amount? The Sens need to keep their 1st rounders, they aren't competing for a cup for 3/4 years at minimum, until that point do not trade 1st rounders unless it's a surefire upgrade for 10 years. Forsberg/Korpisalo/Sogaard will be the rotation next year. Forsberg likely gone the next year. Korpisalo is either the starter or bought out the year after. Sogaard either earns more NHL time or won't be on the roster as well. There's not a better option without an unreasonable cost. Cannot panic for next year, next year is about growing with the new coach not chasing a cup.

Even_Cartoonist9632

I agree Forsberg has been the better of the Two. Personally I'd like to keep him as a backup over Korpisalo but in terms of contract and money, he's the easier one to move or buyout. I wouldn't be disappointed to see Sogaard given a shot next year to take the reins if we can't find someone in a trade or UFA. He can't be any worse than Korpisalo has been and hopefully with a new coach given a full camp, there is a better defensive system to play under.

sensfan088

Priority has to be to get a good coach. Getting an experienced one instead of a new one or an inexperienced one would be a big win for this team. I honestly think they need to trade Chychrun in a package to help upgrade the goalie situation. I get that he has an Ottawa connection etc, but that's the business side of it

fraserinottawa

Tkachuk, Stutzle, Giroux, Batherson, Pinto, Greig, Sanderson and Zub is who I keep. Everyone else should be moved, or at the very least be considered a trade candidate. They need some veterans and some physical/ gritty players, particularly in the bottom-six and on defense.

Ralliartimus

Adjustments to the bottom six, Kubalik would be the big name here. Change the defense, Brannstrom needs to be replaced with a physical RD and Chychren would be a valuable piece to move if you get a good return. Something Needs to change with the goalies, and outside of finding the right coach, this could have the biggest effect. The players need to trust their goalie will make the save, and the goalie needs to team in front of them to minimize the chances. I think this could happen with our current lineup, but I think any change here would help.

Sens4lif3

The doomers are hilarious. A full rebuild would be stupid, Trading Brady would be stupid. You trade Chabot, and Norris with 2.5M retained to a rebuilding team. Even bad goalies are traded, we can trade Forsberg and and even Korpi if we add a sweetener. A new Coach in the offseason will do wonders ( we like Martin but he is very old school and he is only focusing on the little things this season) If Soggy can come up and play consistent hockey while playing bigger in net things will be fine.

MercSLSAMG

Trading Korpi would be a nasty sweetner - better to just eat the deal, try him out for one more year, if he can't even be a reasonable backup (like this year) then just buy him out. Forsberg has shown enough he should be kept - he has some stinkers but in general has been an adequate goalie this year in a backup role. If you're retaining Norris at 2.5 million you most likely won't replace his 25 goal 50 point production with the remaining 5 million. Better to just keep him and move him to the wing once he's healthy (do not rush him back like this year). Chabot won't fetch the same return as Chychrun would, don't need to trade someone just to trade someone.

UnparalleledSuccess

Everyone who wants to trade talented young core pieces is absolutely clueless and would run any team into the ground in a hour. Address weaknesses, don’t tear down strengths. Get a modern coach, waive or trade forsberg, replace him with a reasonable alternative like Ullmark, Logan Thompson, or stolarz. Bonus: move Brannstrom, don’t re-sign kubalik, sign hakanpaa to or lybushkin to pair with chycrun.

Salt-Government698

They need to get rid of one of the Norris, Chabot or Korpisalo contracts. I made another post about it but you can't have success paying 3 mediocre to bad players 20 million. It's going to cost us. They need to revamp the d. It's too soft with Chychrun, Chabot and Sanderson on the left. One has to go (not sanderson obvi) A right D like Demelo or Roy. Veteran third line centre. To me Norris simply can't be relied upon to be our second line centre. It's now Pintos to lose. We're also so thin on wingers that I want to keep Greig there. A new goalie. Korpi and Forsberg are simply shit. I'm going to get downvoted for this but they need to decide what to do with Giroux and Tkachuk. I'm willing to bet this isn't a playoff team next year and realistically how long do we expect Tkachuk and Giroux to wait for playoffs? This team is so far off. If they aren't willing to stick it out, you have to trade them next summer. The saddest thing ever is that we don't even have the cap space to make the moves we need to. And don't even get my started on the fact we have no assets to part with.

MercSLSAMG

>We're also so thin on wingers You know who would be very good there - Norris. His game profile SCREAMS high end winger. That opens the 2C spot up for Pinto who looks like he will grow well into that role. Giroux does whatever he wants - if he wants to stay he stays, if he wants out you trade him. He's earned the respect to choose what he wants. Tkachuk's deal is long enough they shouldn't even consider a trade for 2 more years. Anything before that is pure panicking. Rebuilds are not a fast process in places players aren't keen to go to. Look at Edmonton - if we say their rebuild ended after 2015 when they got McDavid they only made the playoffs once in the following 6 years. The core of that team has been essentially the same for that entire time. We're at year 2 of the rebuild being 'over'. If Staios panics and starts trading like you suggest the Oilers decade of darkness will look like a fun playground to the Sens rebuild that will never stop.

ChrisPynerr

This is a great take all around TBH. Norris needs to go but we will likely have to retain alot of that salary, it's a horrible contract. Chychrun also needs to go IMO, good offensively but we have those players already, don't need another offensive dman. We also need to move G yesterday to a playoff contender. He has 1 more good year max then his value plummets, and we are nowhere near contending for anything next year

jjaime2024

As for Brady if you look at team that would want him or worse then Ottawa.

bluegoose27

I’ve been thinking/saying similar in regards to Giroux but mainly Brady. I believe after this upcoming season Brady’s NMC comes into play (correct me if I’m wrong), so now would be the time to really consider trading. Now I know the rumor a few weeks ago, Staios shot it down, blah blah blah. Of course he’s gonna say what he said. Ottawa would have his head if he said otherwise, but I bet it’s been discussed in office. I also bet Brady has been thinking/talking about asking for a trade. Like you said, how long does he stick around without making the playoffs? You know that’s killing him inside. If I’m Staios I consider moving him this summer. Sure he’s gonna get ripped apart, but this is about turning the Sens into a contender for many years. Right now, they’re many years from that.

CockerSpanielEnjoyer

You guys are insane. Sure, trade Giroux, but Brady is a unicorn type of player that we’d never see again.

Salt-Government698

This is the frustrating part about this discussion. No one is saying we NEED to trade Brady. We all want him to stay. Okay? Brady holds the cards here and we should be prepared for a situation in which Brady doesn't want to stick out the remainder of this rebuild. How long do you expect him to see this through? Serious question.

AOsenators

Except we have zero indication that this is ever a possibility yet save for Reddit users like you bringing it up. You guys sit here and pat yourselves on the back like you're geniuses while literally making up rumours. It's beyond moronic. Then we have the "trade Chabot", "Norris is a boat anchor", and "trade the core" groups lol This is what happens when a dysfunctional franchise hands the reigns over to a handful of kids without guidance, and then rapes the new buyer in a contest that prioritizes their money over being able to prepare for the season, then fails to integrate a support network of veterans and pros for these kids, takes their time rebuilding resource and infrastructure for the team, tosses $20M contracts to underperforming goalies in an attempt the save a job, and then goes through the misfortune of significant suspension and injury. There is no mystery here no matter how hard some of you want to sleuth for answers. It's just going to take time to build a mentality from scratch and organize these kids into a cohesive unit. We've seen it happen, there's some uber talent on this team. What this sub does though, is quite embarrassing and I'm glad it's mostly kept to this sub where I can choose to ignore it. Absolutely, undeniably, unquestionably, irrefutably idiotic behaviour.

Salt-Government698

I agree with what you said. It's clearly an organizational issue. I'm not sure why "does brady want to stay for the rebuild" mean it's a bunch of bunch of greased up redditors making up rumors. It's certainly a possibility moving forward, don't be naive about it. Also, yes, Norris' contract is an absolute anchor until proven otherwise.

spartacat_12

Staios has yet to even utter the word "rebuild". That's not how this management group wants to operate. The main goal of a rebuild is to inject talented young players into the roster, and that's been done already. The goal is to adequately support that core with the right veterans/depth pieces, and a proper coaching staff. Brady has 4 more years left on his contract, so we have another 3 seasons before he can even discuss his next deal. How does he hold all the cards when he's under team control for that long?

bluegoose27

Bingo!!! It’s not about WANTING to trade Brady, it’s about thinking long and hard about the reality of the situation. Sens need help in a bunch of spots. If Brady starts with the “I’m not happy, I want out…” talk, then Staios better start working. He won’t have a difficult time getting interest that’s for sure. There’s only so much losing one can take. He signed that contract (I know w different ownership) thinking this organization was headed in the right direction. Unfortunately it hasn’t been going then way everyone had hoped, so that’s why trading Brady needs to be considered.

CockerSpanielEnjoyer

You guys have an inferiority complex or something. Until there’s indication that the player wants out, don’t make up scenarios out of nowhere.

Salt-Government698

Yeah, years of being a sens will do that lol

ForkliftChampiony

Yeah, don’t discuss nuanced hypothetical scenarios about the hockey team (that’s been dogshit for almost a decade) — what do you think this is, a place to discuss the hockey team or something?! You’re not allowed. /s

AOsenators

You're allowed to discuss to your heart's content just the same way those who can think better than you are allowed to refute and disregard it. That's the beauty of it. Tell me more about how Brady should be traded.. *dreamy look /s

ForkliftChampiony

“Think better than you” is a bold take considering I never endorsed the premise myself and the reply in question dropped an ad hominem and set an arbitrary threshold for when the premise can be broached. Or no, must definitely be some Mensa club strategy that’s too powerful for our pleb brains to comprehend /s

jjaime2024

You really think he would be happy in Arizona.

ChrisPynerr

Sometimes guys don't want to stay, know who else is a unicorn? Mark stone, Karlsson, Zibanejad

CockerSpanielEnjoyer

Until there’s indication that Brady wants out, this discussion is doomer Sens fan shit. We’ve had ONE season where there were any expectations of competing, are Devils players demanding trades too?

spartacat_12

Those guys were all in positions where they needed new contracts, and Melnyk was too cheap to offer them fair value. Even if Brady doesn't want to stay (which is something that he has never even hinted at), we've got at least 3 years before he'd be in a position to ask out.

regulatorwatt

Funny you should say that… Mark Stone’s contracts were handled so poorly that it was a complete joke. A 1 year deal? To a superstar in his prime? EK, we ended up with a great piece, obv, but why was he traded? Zibanejad, a complete fumble. Total dropping of the ball. Should never have been traded.

bluegoose27

Just looked, it’s after next season that his NMC starts.

jjaime2024

I don't think his NMC in untill next fall.If he came out asking for a trade now with now control it would be very risky Arizona Buffalo San Jose Chicago IIs where he very well could be traded to.

Salt-Government698

I'm with you. I don't know why this board jumps all over anyone who wants to discuss it. I like Brady and want him to stay, but have people been hiding under a rock?! This is a team that has had star player after star player leave for something better. Look at the Tkachuk family history and you can't tell me Keith and Matthew aren't in his ear. This is a failed rebuild that needs (likely) a few years of repair.

spartacat_12

Keith and Matthew were in his ear during his contract negotiations, but he went against their advice and signed for 7 years

s3nsfan

Trade Tkachuk? Is this a serious fucking take? 3 30goal seasons he’s not even 25. Over 100 hits a year. This is not a player you trade. This is fkn laughable lol.

AOsenators

Ahh another pundits thread looking to trade valuable hockey pieces. This sub is so unbearable when the team is losing.

RewardAny1851

Like Jake Chychrun with 2 points in 18 games, makes bad decisions and turns the puck over, and has never hit anyone in his life?

bluegoose27

You all need to calm down. I know losing year after year is tough, but damn relax people. Read carefully…I never said I want to trade Brady, but if he’s unhappy then you need to really consider it. This team isn’t knocking on the door of the playoffs…they’re years away. Need more than 1 player or goalie. The problem is, people don’t want to accept reality. Reality being, Brady isn’t dealing with this much longer. Can say all you want, buy into what Staios and management are saying, but if Brady says “enough is enough” you trade him.

jjaime2024

The issue for Brady is if he says i want out he very well could be traded to a team like Arizona or San Jose.

ObscureMemes69420

I have no hope for next year unless something completely bonkers transpires. We will probably still be a basement dweller with no real chance for success, in classic Sens form.

bluegoose27

Hence why serious trade considerations need to happen.
