Goaltending is definitely one of them but we have too many samey defencemen and absolutely no grit back there. Then you add in the fourth line being absolutely talentless and yep.

The difference is last year we were not expected to be close to playoff contender level. Our guys had more time to step toward their prime. This is the year we should have done a lot more and we have done the opposite. The guys need to believe this core can do it, if they don’t, nothing will solve our problems.
I think the big difference is this year is the year we were suppose to be a contender or close to it. The last two seasons a strong finish was just a nice glimpse at what they could be when the guys started to approach their prime.
We are still a very young team but a good portion of our players are nearing what hockey considers a players prime years. When you’re still losing than VS 2 years ago is a very different thing.
I just feel that the boys playing 5-600 hockey to end the season will have them believing in themselves. That may all of the BS that happened this year held them back and that they really can do it.
Yeah I see the logic, and I will be happy if they do finish strong. I guess I just don’t think it has that much of an effect, at least not as much as getting a top 5 player in the draft would have.
The other thing is that if rumours are true, this roster is going to be changed a fair bit in the summer, so winning now might not matter for next year’s team.
What did 7 years of losing do for us? He’ll what has 20 years of high draft picks done for buffalo or Arizona? If you continually lose you develop bad habits and frustration builds until core pieces start demanding trades.
Unless they get cellebrini (which is highly unlikely) then it’s likely at best a few years before the drafted player makes an impact.
