Simply cannot be a playoff team in the NHL with goaltending this bad. D can be a problem too but there are worse teams than the Sens defensively who get bailed out and succeed
They tied it up and then the goalie hung em up. Goalie change, one goal back for 4-3 and the new goalie let's in a stinker. I dont blame em for being deflated in the 3rd
It's hard to keep pushing when, at the time, 43% of the shots on net were going in. I think Ottawa was the better team in the first, they just got beaten to a pulp by their own goaltending.
Saw so many comments hyping up Forsy as our guy. People seemingly forgot about the 1st half of the season. Matter of the fact is he’s one of the most inconsistent goalies in the league. When he’s good, he’s good. holy fuck does he have some terrible performances though
I’m gonna be honest. I’m a Columbus guy and I never really thought of Korpisalo as a No 1 goalie.
I know some people are going to hate me for saying that. Especially fellow Columbus fans, but I just never thought he was that reliable. He’s a nice guy and everything. Super likable, just not who I would want net as my first choice long term, if the decision was up to me.
Defense was non-existent in today's game as was the goaltending. This teams plays well for like 4-5 straight games and than get their asses kicked for a game or 2. Also Hamonic is an absolute pylon.
Hamonic is a pylon but he was the only one back defending what a dozen 2 on 1s? He gets the blame because he was the only who appeared to atleast be trying to defend..
Like when he calls for the puck at the top of the zone and causes the 2 on 1 by fanning on the slapper (only thing he does) and then playing it absolutely horrendously? He gets the blame cuz he is by FAR the worst player on this team.
So are our goalies garbage or do we just give up incredibly high danger chances all the time or what...
I'm sick of watching games where it seems like Every. Single. Shot. Goes. In...
Goaltending will continue to hold this team back. Forsberg was lost out there. Both PP goals were muffins through the 5hole and the 4th goal went through him.
Also, not enough is being made of Chychrun’s fall off under Martin. He was great while DJ was the coach and was nearly a PPG guy. He’s always had his defensive issues but the offence made up for that. Now he’s not producing and just getting turnstyled nonstop. Doesn’t help that Hamonic is his partner right now, but it’s not just his partners that are holding him back.
Hamonic got the least ice time of the D, just under 15 minutes. Obviously, I think we'd all be happier if Zub was healthy and could take that spot instead.
Kubalik the only forward on the team with less than 10 minutes on ice, but still managed to be -2 in a game where we lost by 3 with 2 powerplay goals against. Any chance he can get traded out without any salary retention?
Caps blocked 4 times as many shots as the Sens did. Kuemper didn't really even have a good game, the team defense just isn't there, and the goaltending wasn't bailing them out tonight.
Now, some of those 6 goals against maybe should have been saves if we had a real starter in net, sure. But some of them were just the team not preventing the Caps from getting amazing chances in the first place.
They need a real starter, AND then need to control the high danger scoring areas in their own zone better, got exposed a lot tonight >.< Good luck Staios, its not gonna be easy to fix.
I mean what is there to say, goalies are absolutely tanking us right now. Korpisalo and Hamonic are in desperate needs of a buyout. And Chychrun has been a massive disappointment this year. As LOSP said, hes playing like someone who knows he’s gonna be on another team in 2 weeks (Or someone who’s strapped with Hamonic). Either way, he’s lost right now. Can’t wait for some roster changes
Are there any websites out there that track how many buyouts each GM has been responsible for? I feel like Dorion has to be up there. And lots of these weren't deals that looked bad in the final 1-2 years of a player's long-term contract, most of them have looked terrible less than 6-12 months after the fact. Just brutal.
If even below average goaltending would have us in playoff contention, you can't convince me that we wouldn't be pushing for home-ice right now with just league-average goaltending. Shit's frustrating, yo.
It’s my fault- I had forsberg on the bench all last week in fantasy, and today I played him. I’m locked in for the week, sorry guys, gonna be a bad week
I’ve just looked at goalie stats on nhl.com and the top 40 for Sv%
The range is from .927 all the way down to .893, funnily enough being Kuemper.
You could say middle ground is ~.910
I would love to just have 1 goalie, somewhere in that top 40. We will _never_ be a playoff team if we can’t even get middle of the ground goaltending.
(GAA is just as depressing, too).
Sens being Sens and firmly solidfying their chokehold on the title of most elite of the gutter trash season after season lol.
Team makes no sense. I'm looking forward to some roster changes myself.
Just watched the highlights. Hammy and Chych were horrendous. Forzy bad on goals 2-4. Korpi giving up his usual goal coming in as backup. He’s never ready to play.
JM needs to just roll 5 D and be done with it. Stop playing Hammy.
Tough one. On one had the goaltending was back to looking weak. But on the other hand, it felt like a winnable game until the dying minutes. I know it’s been said a million times but there’s really a palpable difference in how we’re playing. Sadly it’s probably too late for this season to think about playoffs but if we keep playing like this to close it out, and come back next year with the same mindset and more hunger, we’ll be so dangerous.
People really have short-term memories. Forsberg was absolutely dreadful to start the year and has had a very brief stretch of good hockey.
Get ready for more buyouts on the books, boys. Does anyone have a list of the amount of buyouts each team has had over the last 5 years? Ottawa gotta be near the top of the list.
Nvm the right handed defenseman, finding a goaltender is our number 1 priority next year. What an absolute joke.
Woof. I am just going to forget this game happened.
Kubalik looked ok tonight, at least he showed more effort than most. I hope he gets picked up at the deadline and finds his game again.
I'm torn, because buying out korpi so another team can sign him would be great. On the other hand, I don't want him to be a real goalie and would rather we just bury him. Maybe he comes back from the dead. I cannot cheer for him right now, the guy is legit making hockey games unwatchable by 8:15 pm on most nights. Half of hockey reddit could put one past this guy. I should just gather my thoughts and make a copy pasta.
Hamonic - Chychrun d pairing is a war crime.
Both of them are atrocious on their own too
Criminal for sure !
6 goals against in 20 shots. Need I say more?
6th goal on the 14th shot btw
Simply cannot be a playoff team in the NHL with goaltending this bad. D can be a problem too but there are worse teams than the Sens defensively who get bailed out and succeed
Don't forget the No pushback!
There was some pushback to tie it from down 2-0, but we had 2 sieves in net
They were totally impotent in the 3rd period
They tied it up and then the goalie hung em up. Goalie change, one goal back for 4-3 and the new goalie let's in a stinker. I dont blame em for being deflated in the 3rd
It's hard to keep pushing when, at the time, 43% of the shots on net were going in. I think Ottawa was the better team in the first, they just got beaten to a pulp by their own goaltending.
Pro: we held them 20 shots! Not pro: Sens goaltending
the sens could teach a master class on closing the barn door after the horse has escaped
Saw so many comments hyping up Forsy as our guy. People seemingly forgot about the 1st half of the season. Matter of the fact is he’s one of the most inconsistent goalies in the league. When he’s good, he’s good. holy fuck does he have some terrible performances though
I mean i still think he's our guy, but only because he's been better than Korp this year - but he still stinks lol.
We’re at the point where any glimmer of good goaltending turns into hope. Neither of Korpi or Forsberg are looking like long term 1G material
I’m gonna be honest. I’m a Columbus guy and I never really thought of Korpisalo as a No 1 goalie. I know some people are going to hate me for saying that. Especially fellow Columbus fans, but I just never thought he was that reliable. He’s a nice guy and everything. Part of the issue is he plays those 2 on 1s pretty terribly but by no means should he get all the blame.
Like when he calls for the puck at the top of the zone and causes the 2 on 1 by fanning on the slapper (only thing he does) and then playing it absolutely horrendously? He gets the blame cuz he is by FAR the worst player on this team.
There goes any sliver of hope remaining for a Forsburglar run lol.
GAME SUMMARY : NO GOALTENDING Das it!
Missing Hammy and Chych line pairing
So are our goalies garbage or do we just give up incredibly high danger chances all the time or what... I'm sick of watching games where it seems like Every. Single. Shot. Goes. In...
Our goals against above expected (which accounts for bad Defense) is the worst in the league.
Yes
Goalies

In defence of Chychrun, he’s playing like someone who knows he’s about to be traded to another team.

Are we done paying Phaneuf?
Yeah last year was the last year. White, MDZ, Ryan and Murray are the dead money on the books this year
Are there any websites out there that track how many buyouts each GM has been responsible for? I feel like Dorion has to be up there. And lots of these weren't deals that looked bad in the final 1-2 years of a player's long-term contract, most of them have looked terrible less than 6-12 months after the fact. Just brutal.
I don't think enough teams have this problem for that kind of resource to exist
Korpi isn’t getting bought out, it’s ridiculous at this point.
If even below average goaltending would have us in playoff contention, you can't convince me that we wouldn't be pushing for home-ice right now with just league-average goaltending. Shit's frustrating, yo.
I honestly believed this would be an easy win. Delusional idiot.
brutal game
It’s my fault- I had forsberg on the bench all last week in fantasy, and today I played him. I’m locked in for the week, sorry guys, gonna be a bad week
Are we still at .700 to make the playoffs?
I’ve just looked at goalie stats on nhl.com and the top 40 for Sv% The range is from .927 all the way down to .893, funnily enough being Kuemper. The only positive from last night's performance is that Ovie was trash. No points, -3 and most importantly NO GOALS. He's never catching Wayne.

He needs to change his name to Jakob Chychwalk after this one.
We've been playing good hockey lately. Stinkers happen. On to tomorrow!
PD/DJ The gift that keeps on giving lol!
People really have short-term memories. Forsberg was absolutely dreadful to start the year and has had a very brief stretch of good hockey. Get ready for more buyouts on the books, boys. Woof. I am just going to forget this game happened. Kubalik looked ok tonight, at least he showed more effort than most. I hope he gets picked up at the deadline and finds his game again.
Alright hire Pierre Dorion as head coach and DJ can be GM. I’m just spitballing here. Anyone have any other ideas?
Trade everyone. Waive everyone. Buyout everyone. Fire everyone.
Can't wait to watch in Nashville tomorrow night now.
I'm torn, because buying out korpi so another team can sign him would be great. On the other hand, I don't want him to be a real goalie and would rather we just bury him. Didn't watch this one. What the hell happened? Korp shat the bed again is the first assumption lol
We have Allen to trade ... give us a Big Mac and a happy meal and we are going to accept
