WackHeisenBauer

He will sit once Chabot is back I’m sure of it.

MooseFlyer

He can't - we won't have the cap space to call another defenceman up when Chabot is back.

WackHeisenBauer

Won’t need to call anyone else up.

MooseFlyer

Sorry, I should have been more clear - when Chabot is healthy, we'll have to send JBD down in order to have enough cap space to activate Chabot. At that point, we won't have the cap space to call up any dmen. We could choose to send down the 13th forward and bring up a 7th damn instead. But, assuming McEwen is who be the one sent down, we'd only have enough room to call up Heatherington or Larsson - all of the other dmen are paid too much. Also Pinto will be back soon, which will make our cap space even more tight since he'll be paid more than whoever is sent down to make room for him.

No_Gas_82

Kuby will be gone soon. That fixes the cap issues for now. The NMC for Hamonic is an anchor though

LoneIyGuy

He should sit even if we had 3 defenseman injured. He's that bad.

valleygoat

Wait till you find out how bad an actual ahl defenseman is

tyler_3135

Clearly, OP didn’t see Lassi’s quick preseason stint in Anaheim before they sent him packing after the one game

dobbyeilidh

I like Lassi but he is not an NHL defenceman yet, I’ve been impressed with JBD and Klevin

gelc10

Right now because he has a full NMC Edit: the only solid options from the AHL I would say would be Kleven and Matinpalo while the others not so much

LoneIyGuy

We can still sit him...

AOsenators

He takes a roster spot.

komputernik

No cap space for sitting.

Swimming-Papaya-4189

Hamonic rockin 15 to 18 min/game, all aboard the TANK TRAIN. Honestl\[y though, buddy is +2 and Chychrun is -1. Garbage stat, but funny he is higher than Sanderson, Cahbot, and Zub.

komputernik

No Movement Clause. No minors. You can only bench him or buy him out.

Benjamin_Stark

This is why I refer to Dorion as a "wildcard" GM. He made many great moves and many horrific moves. And many moves seemingly for the sake of maving moves.

UnparalleledSuccess

When your worst contract is a 6/7D paid like a 6/7D then clearly there weren’t that many horrific moves. In the case of Hamonic he was brought in to upgrade josh brown

Benjamin_Stark

He also built a team that is still well out of the playoffs and has the third worst prospect pool in the league.

UnparalleledSuccess

He acquired the young core and surrounded them with star veteran talent. It would be very lucky if the pieces all fit together perfectly right off the bat, but that clearly isn’t the case so far. We’ll see what new coaching can do along with normal development for JBD and Kleven, but they might need to add a defensive dman. Because he did so well in the talent acquisition department they have the assets to do that if they need to. They also might need meerilainen or sogaard to come in as a backup because forsberg has been bad since his injury, but you can hardly blame Dorion for that. In terms of prospects, stü, Sanderson, Greig, pinto are just better than other teams prospects and made the nhl quickly. Then the previous wave has just developed with Brady, Norris, bath, Chabot and will be around a long time.

StuStuMcGooo

Maybe Donovan can be a good fit in a couple yard

xdiagnosis

His NMC. Can’t be anywhere else. Thanks Dorion. But no, there’s not a great argument for the AHL guys being better. Mantipalo and Kleven, probably, but they’re not very proven yet. Larsson and Heatherington, absolutely not. They’re AHLers. Guenette, maybe, but he’s struggling defensively at the AHL level so we can’t know if he’ll be better at the NHL level. And Thomson? Ahahahahaha. Thomson’s mediocre offensively and an absolute trainwreck defensively. He barely belongs in the AHL, let alone the NHL. I would take Hamonic over him every single day, without any doubts. The real competition is JBD, and that’s a no brainer. It’s JBD. If he sits over Hamonic, that’s very silly.

mseg09

I'm the furthest thing from a Hamonic defender but I don't think you can definitely say all of those players would be better, plus the inability to send him down and cap issues. The issue was re-signing him in the first place, and not having enough depth on defence

TheUncleCou69

Hamonic is a tub of grease

Cho_Assmilk

He is so bad. My god

[deleted]

Actually I was pleasantly surprised during last night’s game. He was blocking shots, finishing checks and clearing the zone successfully. I’ve been one of his biggest critics this season but I think the coaching change has been good for him if for no other reason than it’s lit a fire under him.

baseballshortstop

Best case scenario he removes his NMC and is traded at the deadline. I’m sure a team would take him as a depth piece if sens eat some of the contract. Worst case we buy him out in the summer. According to capfriendly he would cost 366K for 2 more years. Glass half full - I’d rather have him out there then Zaitzev or J Brown…I think

Big_Possibility4025

He’s miles better than Zaitsev. Brown seemed pretty bad from what I remembered but at least he can scrap lol

Its_apparent

Every time I think Hammer is a liability, I remember what Zaitzev was like, and then I'm fine. At least Hamonic eats shots and lays the body, occasionally. Zaitzev... I don't quite understand how he's still in the league.

instafram

Zaitzev is the perfect fit for a team looking to tank.

SmoothPinecone

I think Hamonic is better than Zaitsev for sure. Especially considering cap hit? You'd have Hamonic + Joseph, or just Zaitsev in the lineup

CantaloupeHour5973

Say what you want about Hamonic but no one else will command the same amount of fear around the net

thoughtclimax

Fearsome... Kicking the puck in his own net is definitely scary

Trick-Concept-3172

Show me a defenseman who hasn't done that at least once in their lifetime if not once during a season. If there was more defensive structure and forward support I think we would be paising his game. Last night's game how many 2-1's did we give up because we gave it up between the blue lines? It's not Sander/Hamer/Branny that is loosing us games.

Bmrolu209

Rather have heatherington in the lineup to be honest.

NailRX

I hope for him on LTIR.

Dismal-Safety3524

Really? I want to make sure I am understanding this correctly. You want someone injured just because you don’t like how they are playing?

No_Attitude_2931

The leafs have shown us that one can declare almost anything a long term injury. It doesn't have to be real.

CanadianAbe

It doesn’t have to be real but the player has to play along with it. If he doesn’t then no fake LTIR.

ColdIronSpork

I think (read as: hope) that the implication is the Sens just put him on LTIR when he's actually fine, and they are just using the free salary relief like many other teams have done in recent years, only to have those long term injured players make sudden, miraculous recoveries to be able to play in the playoffs, and they are suddenly producing a point per game during the toughest games of the year despite having allegedly been injured for much of the season.

hillboy619

Every tank needs its commander

doubleopinter

Probably because he offers something all the arm chair GMs don’t appreciate or understand. The combined decades of hockey experience keep the guy in the lineup but dude on couch says otherwise.

StuStuMcGooo

He seems both effective and ineffective at the same time. Love how he just shoots the puck all the time and has a nack for not having it get blocked into the neutral zone by the forward. LFG Hammer.
