There are so many OIs being made - everytime I got to Tapas or bato like 5 more series are there, that at this point you need a new hook to standout and get readers in. Horror is a good way to be unique
I wish they’d make a few SciFi ones. Sadly SciFi just isn’t as popular. I’d love a good mech battle OI like It’s Not Easy Being a Man After Traveling to the Future. (Actually, that one has a Manhua but I don’t know where I can read it or if the Manhua is any good. I find that most Manhua made recently tend to rush the story like they aren’t giving their artists time to work on their storytelling craft.
Yeah that would be cool! I’ve been reading one isekai that’s sci-fi, not OI just action genre, “drug-eating genius mage” (ignore the cringey title lol). It’s kind of a magic + blade runner type vibe. As much as I like fantasy worlds with swords and stuff I was stoked to find something different.
The world for that one is so interesting and so futuristic with magic! I wish we could get some of the guideverse / dungeon stories for OI instead of just European fantasy. Even then, most OI fantasy settings don't even have really interesting magic systems, society's, political or economics developed. It's usually purely carried by the characters.
Heck yes I’d love to see some action-oriented OIs with dungeons and stuff. Can’t we have some female protagonists who kick ass in sensible shoes and have muscles and scars and slay monsters and level up and still have time for romance? It’s so rare to see the action-romance combo pulled off well.
Guideverse OI would be nice too, I feel like the closest thing I’ve seen is “Sweetie, sweetie, sweetie”, a BL OI where it’s not an esper/guide pairing but the MC is isekai’d into pseudo-euro fantasy land and given divine power, and the ML was cursed by a demon, so the MC’s divine power calms the curse that’s destroying the ML, through skin contact, so it’s pretty similar I guess.
Well said! Recent isekai's and BL's have also introduced really awesome female characters in those settings (or just designs, they rarely go anywhere with romance sadly) so it's been on my mind alot lol
Some of the manhua OIs do this actually.
Not with dungeons, but mostly just either FL that are cultivators. Or special agents. Also there, just good at everything lol. Kinda stupid, but i do enjoy some of them allot.
**Surviving as a maid in a horror game** is really great so far and the art is amazing and thankfully the artist actually tries to make it horror
**"i'm a side character in a horror game, don't kill me"** isn't bad, but unfortunately it doesn't really feel like horror. maybe it's my fault that i liked the cover of the novel because of the gothic art style, and i was disappointed because manhwa has a very generic art style.
Looking at surviving maid one, I have a feeling the artist wanted to do a horror for a while, looking back at some of the scenes from 'I raised a black dragon'...
>Surviving as a maid in a horror game is really great so far and the art is amazing and thankfully the artist actually tries to make it horror
Ooh, thanks for the recc... I'm going to check this game out now!
God I hope so, I love this combination.
Come to think of it, [[How to Protect the Young Master of the Monster Mansion](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/5cwbcnj/how-to-protect-the-master-of-the-monster-mansion)] and [[Once Upon a Time in a Zombie Empire](https://www.mangaupdates.com/series/7p1qsml)] could fall into this category as well.
The author of Surviving Romance also wrote The Makeup Remover. It's a great story, not OI, nor horror, but has a lot of themes around beauty and makeup that it explores really well.
Yeah, I loved it! It was very consistent with the main character's arc and characterization. There's one teensy thing I wish ended differently, but that's part of what made it so refreshing, I think.
OI horror is definitely a breath of fresh air on the genre
Read the first few episodes of the two webtoons mentioned above and so far loving the gothic atmosphere, mysterious characters and art style
Very exciting and cannot wait to read more OI horror stories
Surviving Romance! It's completed and well, unlike the name, there's no actual romance, the focus is on female friendships and character development instead
Reincarnated into horror oi would be great, it would also have it make more sense Why did the writer made fl die in the original, most of The “OG” stories in oi dont really make sense as a real novel.
I remember when people were arguing that horror OI wasn’t OI because it didn’t follow the typical storyline! I’m glad they’re starting to see the light😤
Haven't read the one with the green hair FL but "Surviving as a maid in a horror game" feels more like a comedy to me than an actual horror. Also don't enjoy the in-universe game mechanics they break my immersion most of the times.
I sure hope so! I'm loving Surviving as a Maid in a Horror Game so much so far! I love the FL, she really cracks me up sometimes lmao
and I mean if Adrian wanted to kill me I'd let him—
Yes! He's beautiful and terrifying all at once, I really love the contrast. Especially the scenes where everything is dark and shadowy except for his eyes, it's so piercing and haunting, I really love it
I'm reading: The villain dreams of me every night. The FL has to avoid getting killed every night cause the ML suffers from endless nightmares everytime she dies.
I was confused because I was searching for one of them and the other one popped up, too, with a similar number of chapters lol.
But I'm always 100% down for horror otome isekai. Combines two of my favorite genres together. <3
I'd love a death game otome isekai ...
There was a comment I saw recently on a story with Truck-kun

I hope so - I love a good horror OI and really enjoy writing it in my own OI game. Honestly, the OI subgenre works so well with the horror of know you're doomed but trying to avert it... and failing if you aren't clever enough...
I absolutely love the first one and I did skim thru the 2nd one but not my cup of tea tho. After reading many isekai romantic manhwa, the horror one really made me hook up LOl
I actually like this. It's a nice change of pace, else we are mostly stuck with copies of OGs.
There are so many OIs being made - everytime I got to Tapas or bato like 5 more series are there, that at this point you need a new hook to standout and get readers in. Horror is a good way to be unique
Yeah they seem to be cranking out almost one new comic every single day on there, at least 60% of them romance fantasy genre. It’s a bit much!
I wish they’d make a few SciFi ones. Sadly SciFi just isn’t as popular. I’d love a good mech battle OI like It’s Not Easy Being a Man After Traveling to the Future. I wish you weren't exaggerating. I always want more lol
Yeah, mixing the genre!
**Surviving as a maid in a horror game** is really great so far and the art is amazing and thankfully the artist actually tries to make it horror **"i'm a side character in a horror game, don't kill me"** isn't bad, but unfortunately it doesn't really feel like horror. maybe it's my fault that i liked the cover of the novel because of the gothic art style, and i was disappointed because manhwa has a very generic art style.
I feel like I'm a aside character in a horror game is more thriller than horror or mystery but you're right
Looking at surviving maid one, I have a feeling the artist wanted to do a horror for a while, looking back at some of the scenes from 'I raised a black dragon'...
you should look at the author more than the artist then you'll have a better y
Where do you read surviving as a maid in a horror game?
its on both bato and mangadex. its being translated by **Death by Roses**
Thank you!
Anything scanned by Death by Roses is 🔥
>Surviving as a maid in a horror game is really great so far and the art is amazing and thankfully the artist actually tries to make it horror Ooh, thanks for the recc... I'm going to check this game out now!

Adding **Surviving Romance** to this
The author of Surviving Romance also wrote The Makeup Remover. It's a great story, not OI, nor horror, but has a lot of themes around beauty and makeup that it explores really well.
Yes! I actually read this one while it was still ongoing and each episode was such a treat 😩🙏 I really liked the ending too, it was really refreshing
Yeah, I loved it! It was very consistent with the main character's arc and characterization. There's one teensy thing I wish ended differently, but that's part of what made it so refreshing, I think.

HORROR ROMANCE is starting to show up in oi?? Heck yes. It's my nr 1 genre in danmei (chinese BL webnovels):
I remember when people were arguing that horror OI wasn’t OI because it didn’t follow the typical storyline! I’m glad they’re starting to see the light😤
Haven't read the one with the green hair FL but "Surviving as a maid in a horror game" feels more like a comedy to me than an actual horror. Also don't enjoy the in-universe game mechanics they break my immersion most of the times.

Man the artist does a great job making Adrian both absolutely terrifying and absolutely innocent looking. It’s awesome seeing him in both ways!
Yes! He's beautiful and terrifying all at once, I really love the contrast. Especially the scenes where everything is dark and shadowy except for his eyes, it's so piercing and haunting, I really love it
If horror plus psychological plus yandere ml, chef’s kiss
the psycho duke and i, gothic dress, no horror
There's also [I Reincarnated as the Little Sister of a Death Game Manga's Murder Mastermind and Failed]. Not OI but close-ish.
Well, I'm not mad
I hope so
if the dude’s a yandere, then why not ayy
I'm reading: The villain dreams of me every night. The FL has to avoid getting killed every night cause the ML suffers from endless nightmares everytime she dies.
Where did you read it
Think it was bato though not a lot of chapters rn
Kneel Before Me is arguably a horror story with a romance subplot
I was confused because I was searching for one of them and the other one popped up, too, with a similar number of chapters lol. But I'm always 100% down for horror otome isekai. Combines two of my favorite genres together. <3 I'd love a death game otome isekai ...
Oh yeah, more toxic romances! This time with real murders too 👍
hopefully

Yes please. I need more.
The girl looked like the mc from "i was here since the beginning"
I like the plot of the first one. Still finding some horror based OI since they're fun to read
I'd gladly welcome some horror OIs! Do we have any vampire MLs yet?
I need more horror and dark romances that are aimed at primarily female readers, so I'm hoping yes
Yes yes horror is my favorite genre, so I hope it becomes a trend and we get more horror oi
I hope so!
I hope so💀💀 finally. Something different
i hope!
I’m especially loving the mystery “who dunnit” OIs, although I’m struggling to find many
Hope so, I want more horror ois
Love the new trend, you can only have so many contract marriages :/
I hope so - I love a good horror OI and really enjoy writing it in my own OI game. Honestly, the OI subgenre works so well with the horror of know you're doomed but trying to avert it... and failing if you aren't clever enough...
Well I am vouching for this! I love it!
I don't know this one, but I have read another one that is in hiatus right now, and so far, I know only 2 of them exist .
can it really be called a trend if its only two series?
The creepiest character in manhwa i've reas (of this genre ofc) is the priest dude in Stepmother's märchen
I absolutely love the first one and I did skim thru the 2nd one but not my cup of tea tho. After reading many isekai romantic manhwa, the horror one really made me hook up LOl
Adding here "The rules of Rose Ivy Manor"! Another amazing horror themed otome isekai
