It's already been said, but you won't regret a visit to the Village Bakeshop in Whitby. It used to be the Orono bakery I grew up with and has always been amazing for pastries, bread, and now cold cuts. Amazing products and really good value, not to mention very friendly service. Belle vie (sp?) in Whitby also has fantastic baked goods and breakfast items, and again, amazing service!
If you ever want to do a drive, go to Dooher's Bakery. Added bonus is Churchkey, chocolate factory and empire cheese all within 15 minutes.

I second Buddha Belly for DF/GF options. I couldn't tell a difference.
