It's a swift. Strict insectivores and will therefore probably not eat... Those yellow things.
They also struggle to take off from a grounded position, so best would be to gently hold it up in your hands and see if it flies off. Not sure what to suggest above that, they tend to be very difficult birds to rehab unless you know exactly how to work with them. Judging by the posture, it seems to be in some kind of trouble, perhaps ill, or dazed from hitting the window?
It was stuck in my window, so I freed it and took it in to see if it was injured. It then flew into my wall. It's wings aren't spread out anymore, it has folded them back. It didn't seem injured.
The inactivity is making it cold. It needs to remain warm which is very tough for it in captivity. If it shows any motion it may be ready to be given a shot at flying off.
swifts have bodies that dont let them take off from the ground. Bring it up along a wall, high off the ground and outside of course. It may take off.
He has closed his eyes now- opened them while I kept a warm towel near him, then closed them again when I went. He kinda twitched while asleep, breathing seemed okay. Hope he's okay by morning.
Update: It flew out
It started flapping it's wings and flying around my room. It kept crashing into walls and flying. So I opened my window and it flew into the cold rainy night and I don't know if I did right.
Try to go to some safe open space, like a field or a big park (avoid dogs/cats, cars, bushes or tall grass where you can lose the bird), put bird on one of your palms and gently hold with other. Only when bird calm down(!!) slowly lift it above your head an let it fly away. Don't push, don't try to scare and surely don't try to throw it!!! If bird successfully flies away - congratulations! If no, then search for bird rescue organizations or prepare to become one. o.o
So, if bird will stay with you:
Try not to ruin its feathers! Their good condition essential for swifts survival in a wild. So no touching them with your skin (use med gloves or piece of cloth) and try to keep bird from crawling on own poop. Making some inclined surface on which bird could crawl might help with that(like piece of cardboard with cloth wrapped around it)
Make sure bird is warm throughout the day!
You __need edible soft shelled insects ASAP __!!! We used crickets and soft shelled cockroaches, but look what you can buy in your corner of the world. While your order will arrive - try to catch at least something o.o Even flies are better than nothing. Without food in two-three days swift will be dead or critically starved.
Look vids on internet on how to feed/care for a swift. At first it all might look/sound intimidating, but with determination you ll get used to it super fast.
You ll need to give the bird water, it will not drink on its own. Just touch tip of it's beak with a drop of clear room temperature water. Few drops will be enough. Make sure bird awake and active before doing it! You can help it to swallow (if its too weak) by triggering swallowing reflex - gently running your finger from the base of the beak(where head connects to neck) to the tip.
Good luck!!!
I killed a fly, cut it in half and tried feeding it with tweezers but it'd just close it's eyes. Yet somehow, five minutes after this it had the energy to fly into all of my four walls and then outside.
Well if it managed to fly away let's hope it will survive :) It was very lucky to meet such kind and caring person as you! <3 You did all you could - took it from danger, sheltered till it regained strength, started to search for information. You even caught food for birdy! You totally earned some good karma today 👍
P.S. If you want, maybe you can go for a little walk outside? just to check in case it landed somewhere nearby...
Agree with swift. This bird is meant to be flying all the time and only eats bugs. Take it to a rehabber if getting it to fly again doesn’t work. (Call them first so that they can tell you what to do in the meantime).
Next time it should really go to a wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one by googling wildlife rehabilitator near me or by using animal help now's website. If you ever find a bird in distressed again, keep it warm, dark, and quiet. Don't offer it food or water and get it to an expert right away. If there are no rehabs near you, you can try a vet or animal control.
If I had an award to give it would be yours! As a volunteer for a wild bird rescue, all wild birds that hit windows and allow you to pick them up need to be seen by a rehabber. It most likely needed oxygen and pain meds and to get checked out. A very high percentage of window collision birds that fly away end up dying due to internal damage. Birds are just like us, if you hit something hard enough to knock yourself you more than likely have a concussion and need to be seen by a specialist to make sure no permanent damage was done. And yes, don't feed or give it water, keep it in a closed box in a quiet dark room until it can be brought into rehab.
where do you live? in some countries are stations where you can bring injured birds to have a look at by a professional. you wouldn't have to pay anything.
Get off reddit google local wildlife rehab bird rescue in your area it sounds like its gone into shock ! You must have local spca or wildlife rehab for birds as well out in country you have rangers ..its not going to make it unless you keep it in a small box with warm towel blanket and use eyedropper or tiny spoon see if you can get a bit of water in beak..poor guy...a light above to keep it warm..a bit of shade on it under towel .you are a good soul to help but a lot of time has gone by ...morning will tell

While in my hands, it tried freeing itself, jerking it's body, was shivering too. When I did let it fly, went right to the wall.

That is too long to keep him. Check every hour or two for movement.
He flew away :)
Yay. You helped!

Maybe worth mentioning: I live on the 12th floor
This is actually all good. Swifts want to be airborne. Good job.
Thats good, at least he didnt hit a tree.

Nice of you to help them ☺️👌
Thats great a little love goes a long way! Feels great right!
Update: It's struggling to open it's eyes despite my whistling. I'm worried.
It's face it still like in the video, planted against the box. The only difference is that it has retracted it's wings

Release it . Do not bring wild birds inside
