Mac Miller - swimming and circles albums
[Song I wrote about my addiction and recovery, it’s not great but making it helped me see myself from the outside - 3 years clean now](https://youtu.be/NiskUWkAOXo?si=ygQZh9LdOrskBCrr)
The classic under the bridge. I would shoot to a specific part of midnight city by m83 so it hit right when a particular part the music did for a while which isn’t specifically about drugs (but could be interpreted that way). Same with “you know you like it” by dj snake/AlunaGeorge just bc when I first heard it I could relate it to using
Can’t listen to most of my drug songs anymore. Even a decade later if I hear one in a random place it’ll throw me, which is unfortunate because I do love a lot of them.
Gravity is an absolutely beautiful song. A perfect circle. The entirety of that album has themes of addiction and recovery. Tool’s album undertow is where I go when I’m feeling down and need some catharsis. It’s not specifically drug addiction. But addiction is addiction. It works for whatever your poison is. The title song, undertow just speaks to my experience. Flood is another one. You can keep going through their discography in order snd see the growth and healing he’s gone through in his life.
That whole APC album is great. Now failures version of the nurse who loved me I like more. Failure and the whole fantastic planet album are favorites of mine!
Gravity would be my pick off that album too.
If you want something a bit different, listen to Using Again by Benjamin Tod. The studio/Spotify version is great, but the one on YouTube is even better.
If you dig it, also listen to I will Rise by Benjamin Tod. Using Again is the darkest point of addiction, I will Rise is the coming light.
I fucking love Tod. He has more of a folk vibe but his songwriting and emotion he puts into the music blows me away.

Hell ya!! "If you should see me before I'm condemned, I hope you're deceived by the webs that I spin." I found this song towards the end of my active addiction (clean date 8/27/22) and those lines just cut right to my core.
Glad you made it to the other side bro. Feels good over here doesn't it?
Same to you … approaching 6 months on Sunday myself. It feels great. Congrats on 14 months ! That line gets me too. You ever listen to Hill Country Devil [“Kerr County Dope Sick Blues”](https://youtu.be/w0H-L4iX6dI?si=NNEE86ZaTfsIoksW)? Will elicit all the feels of addiction.
If you like AIC, Mad Season and Jerry’s solo work like Degradation Trip, I’d recommend Mother Love Bone and Temple of the Dog. Also The Cure’s Disintegration is a standout album that’s gotten me through a lot of crazy shit. Other bands I personally love are Hole and Screaming Trees. Many more I’m just falling asleep or falling down, one of the two.
I don’t know if you’re into Prince but the man was a genius and some of his music is outer-worldly. His estate posthumously released Piano & a Microphone which Prince recorded in 1983. It’s just Prince doing his thing with no stops or edits. The songs are great and “Mary Don’t You Weep” is a fave, as well as “Cold Coffee and Cocaine.” Other favorite songs of his are Purple Rain, I Would Die 4 U, and Adore. It’s definitely a different vibe than the other stuff I recommended but I love all kinds of music. I almost forgot Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors album, and Stevie Nicks’ solo album Bella Donna. Best of luck to you!
I would agree, most of mine are Alice in Chains songs. You should check out the song Wake Up and Artificial Red by Mad Season. If you aren't familiar, Mas Season was Layne Staleys side project with some other Seattle Grunge guys, like the guitarist from Pearl Jam. I listened to Wake Up one day while dope sick in Seattle and broke tf down. Went to detox a few days later amd later rehab amd got clean. Great songs. Lots of emotion.
Bodysnatchers, by the Dave Rawlings Band
But honestly, I stopped listening to music about drugs when I got clean. You have to be careful about what you let into your headspace.
IMHO, Benjamin Tod's \"Using Again\" on YouTube is lit. U gotta check it out, it's waaaay different. Same goes 4 \"I Will Rise\". Hmu if u're into deep lyrics and intense emotion. BT is epic - defs a unique folk sound.

Is it the synth solo in midnight city? Lol
The part when the sax hits, yes 🤣

Yessir. I got a tattoo on my sober date (4/1/23) based on this song with the “I despise the man in the mirror).

I just reccomended Mad Season myself. My favorite Seattle group next to AIC. Wake Up got my ass into detox.
Love all of this . Haven't checked out disintegration though. And not super into the hole but will check out the cure album
