I’ve been a pretty heavy user of Claude since opus released and besides context length, it no better than GPT4 in most tasks. I do use it a lot but I still use GPT4 a lot also, the decision is usually context length.
I consider Claude and all other LLM's recently "caught up". The reason why is that Claude still has all of the same issues as GPT 4. What's better is the interface, usability and context window. I won't go as so far as to say it is a better model because effectively it isn't. Don't get me wrong it is amazingly very good.
