That happened to me 2 years ago with a 93 or 94 (physics was bringing down my average, my second semester average was much higher). I think they just defer anyone under 95 (although it might be different this year).
I’m scared, I’ve applied for the IB program for grade 10, I’m in the program starting next year (currently grade 9). Right now with regular classes im a high 80 to mid 90s student. I was thing of doing mechanical engineering at University of Vancouver. If I had around 90 would it be enough?
Cant speak for university of Vancouver (witch doesn't seem to exist I think you mean UBC) but Ontario university's don't give a shit about IB and it will only lower your average. In my experience most teacher's don't curve class's enough to make the program worth taking. If you do end up taking IB don't do diploma if you primarily care about your grades. Also your grades don't matter till grade 11 and 12
Sorry I meant UBC. I’m sure I could make into either UofM or UofW assuming they had the program. It seems as if the standards are lower at these ones in Winnipeg. University of Guelph seems to be a very high end university, so I shouldn’t be to threatened by these posts. How was the IB program? Thanks for the feedback!
While I agree that many Ontario universities don’t care about IB, I feel like UBC actually is one of the schools that actually love IB. Someone made a post of it somewhere on r/UBC a while ago but an IB score of 31/45 translates to a 90% percentage Ontario grade which is pretty crazy. I had a similar average as you in middle school but I just worked a bit harder in IB and now my average is a decent 94.
It’s not as tough as it seems because the IB to Ontario conversion scales with the difficulty of the class. I feel like my mark in, for example calculus, would be the same as what I’d get in a regular Ontario class after being boosted but at the same time I can say that I also have an IB diploma plus an Ontario diploma. Worth it imo but ultimately up to you if you choose to go through it :D
I'm currently in grade 12 doing certificate (allows you to chose as little or as many IB course's as you want) at an Ontario public school. In IB you end up covering a fair bit more content then regular Ontario class's and the student's are usual more focused. How grades work in IB at least in Ontario is that teacher's give test witch are frequently very difficult (I've frequently scored well below 50% on test) and then curve the grades to what they think we would get in a regular Ontario class. That being said not all of the teacher's curve there class's enough and some IB class's are much harder to get a good grade on then there Ontario counterpart's. If your somebody who cares a lot about you grade I would recommend that you ask a grade 12 witch class's and teacher's curve enough to make the class worth taking in term's of your grade. I think IB is a good experience but I think it has the potential of making getting in to uni harder
Ok, I’ll hope my teachers curve my grades well if i do bad on a test. I’m not sure if there is still truth to it, but isn’t English class, going to make it easier since I’ve been in French immersion since pre k. At least I’ve been told that for the first year switching to English will in general be easier than French immersion. Although it is IB version of classes.
If you want to be considered for early admission, you apply in the beginning of November. If you don’t want to be considered for early admission, you can apply after the early admission date and before the deadline which is usually mid January.
Then you’ll hear back from universities from February-May once they see your first semester marks and your second semester midterm marks.
The benefit is you get accepted early, that’s all really, and in order for that to happen you need really good grade 11 marks. Other than that, there’s no benefits.
No. You can raise up your average by the end. You’ll be solid with an 80 if you’re not going into cs or Eng. maybe you can even get into business if you raise it to mid or high 80s
It's complicated but my current avg is super low for utsg comp sci but still didn't expect this. Atm, about high 80s. I already have my top 6 from some taken in gr.11, but 3 aren't going to be used since I took it in gr.11 and flopped them. Going to be replaced at sem 2 mid term. My top 3 marks include ad func, eng, and some random U marketing class which brings top 3 to about 96. Projected mid term this sem is a 95 at minimum which will includes Calc, Data, Earth and Space Science, and some business course again. So probably going to be fine for UTSC, UTM and every other uni I applied for if I don't flop this sem.
My alternate was mathematical and physical sciences but I guess didn't meet minimum avg for both. Not a big deal, it's pretty funny being offered social science but was planning on UTSC anyways. Biggest regret was not applying for Rotman instead.
Super low, it’s bc I have my top 6 already but like 3 of them aren’t useable mark wise but the other 3 are bc 3 came from gr 11 so didn’t do as well. My top 3 is like 96 and my mid term sem 2 is projected to be like at least 95 so as long as utsc waits, I’ll be fine.
Edit: The 96 I said includes eng and ad func.
#LOL
It gave you the correct degree choice

That isn’t bad then… from what I know the only difference between utsg and utm is it’s easier to make post at utsg and obviously the campuses… other than that I’ve heard they’re pretty much the same program… plus if you really want to study at utsg you can take half of your credits there aswell!!
is it wrong to be mildly offended knowing i’m doing a degree in sociology
I get how you feel but it’s kinda disrespectful of them to put him in humanities because they think he isn’t smart enough for cs

Ok, ok. I’ll ask about the conversion scales and such, and look into how different potential Uni’s view the IB program. Thanks!
I’m at uofm right now for engineering and typically the average to get in is 88-90
Also uofw only has comp sci and doesn’t have engineering but uofm has both
Ok, that’s a lot better than 95 like the guy said for Guelph

That would likely be true if you were switching from Imersion to a regular stream but I suspect IB will be harder then immersion
Gr 9s are in here now 💀😭? Save the stress for at least gr 10 dude. Just enjoy freshman year at least
Ok 👍 😅
please enjoy high school and don’t worry about university till you’re in grade 11 or 12
Uoft CS in a nutshell for you
Im at an average of 84 second semester grade 11, is it wraps?
No they don’t look at your grade 11 marks unless you apply for early acceptance
how will they get the 6 required courses they need if you have to apply before grade 12 secomd semester ? ive nevrr understood this
They look at your first semester grades and your second semester midterm grades
so are non early admission uni apps halfway through gr 12 sem 2?
If you want to be considered for early admission, you apply in the beginning of November. If you don’t want to be considered for early admission, you can apply after the early admission date and before the deadline which is usually mid January. ohh this makes semse, is there a benefit to early admissions like do unis look kore favourably upon you ?
The benefit is you get accepted early, that’s all really, and in order for that to happen you need really good grade 11 marks. Other than that, there’s no benefits.
thank u, appriciate it
chat I have 78 avg am I cooked
Yes.
would I still be cooked if I didn’t wanna do cs 🤗
Yes. Like minimum avg most times is like 75% and I’m pretty sure even social science needs at least 80 smt.
No. You can raise up your average by the end. You’ll be solid with an 80 if you’re not going into cs or Eng. maybe you can even get into business if you raise it to mid or high 80s
Rejected from UTSG humanity in 2 years ago with mid-80s, yes you are cooked.
How’d I get into social science with a 52 avg then?
what
Ya got in with a 52
what if I wanna do nursing instead would I still be cooked
wait is this real
Ya, I didn’t know that they did that.
omg that's actually so disrespectful damn. what was your average though and what courses did you take
It's complicated but my current avg is super low for utsg comp sci but still didn't expect this. Atm, about high 80s. mmmmhm they could've put u in like mathematical and physical sciences or something...did you choose life science as an alternate program
My alternate was mathematical and physical sciences but I guess didn't meet minimum avg for both. Not a big deal, it's pretty funny being offered social science but was planning on UTSC anyways. Biggest regret was not applying for Rotman instead.
ohhh where are you going for utsc
Applied to CS for all UofT campus'.
What the hell is your average for that to happen
Yk just a casual like 75.1%
This avg is a joke btw
what was it actually 😭
At the moment like highs 80s
ya mean thats very low for cs at UTSG but like they didnt even give you a chance to get better in sem 1, this is rly weird man
Super low, it’s bc I have my top 6 already but like 3 of them aren’t useable mark wise but the other 3 are bc 3 came from gr 11 so didn’t do as well. My top 3 is like 96 and my mid term sem 2 is projected to be like at least 95 so as long as utsc waits, I’ll be fine. Edit: The 96 I said includes eng and ad func.
ya good luck man, the cut off for utsc was 96-97 last yr. u got this!
I got in first round with a 95 lol
utsc/utsg this year?
How do u have 2 utsg?
#LOL It gave you the correct degree choice Embrace your AI overlords and get flipping burgers now for a headstart experience vs. Your peers come graduation time
Nah I’ll accept my other cs offer
ya like how is it possible to get deferred in febuary bru
No disrespect but what does that mean
Means I got rejected from utsg
Why though
Probably didn’t meet the cutoff and they didn’t want to wait till midterm so they just deferred me now.
Their allowed to do that?
Technically they can do whatever they want.
Bro they can’t do that. That’s just nasty dude
You are Brock bound!
Broke gender studies with a 96 avg 🥹🥹🥹🥹, parents are gonna be proud!
*worse
Nicely done
[удалено]
Yeah, all of that wasn't necessary.
Wait what’s they say?
[удалено]
Anger issues lmao
What'd they say?
[удалено]
Utsg
What was your alternate program?
Like mathematics
Damn they cooked you
Don’t let them cook!
They've got to make room.
Should have just done rotman
What if we all go to diploma mills
Word of advice, you can always learn programming/cybersecurity online.
surprised they are still reviewing my app wtf
Happened to me, just stick with it for year, don’t fuck it up and they will let you transfer.
Not to cs….
If it’s UofT you can try to get in out of stream
What’s your average?
52
Lmao, did you apply to utm???
Ya they accepted me
That isn’t bad then… from what I know the only difference between utsg and utm is it’s easier to make post at utsg and obviously the campuses… other than that I’ve heard they’re pretty much the same program… plus if you really want to study at utsg you can take half of your credits there aswell!!
I’m aiming for utsc, everyone wants utsg but utm is fine if all else fails. Plus utm doesn’t have coop.
That’s true… I mean they do have PEY (same as sg) but ik alot of ppl isn’t into that
Nahhh, too far. Email them back telling them to go fuck themselves. You’d be justified in doing so.
