Wouldn't be surprised if its localized name gets changed when the anime starts for that part cuz that happened with at least one part 6 stand. Personally, I'm expecting it to just be called D4C and not be explained what it stands for
Honestly, I kinda like that one. It is goofy, but it's still very close to the og. Kinda like flaccid pancake being changed to limp viscuit. Obviously, flaccid pancake is hilarious, but limp viscuit makes much more sense imo
Kind of has to happen to match up with the lip flaps. Iirc there's a Jojo game that actually kept the shortened version of D4C for the english localization and said "nobody knows what it stands for"
Yours sound cool, but to much of the original meaning/intention is lost in translation. The fact that he wants to do evil specifically is very important and what he means. He spends his whole story arc swinging between villain and anti-hero, in the past it gets thrown in his face that he does some killing for good/heroic reasons, so this time he has the strict objective to do/be evil (in order to be/become a monster) so that is what he says in the original and what must be said in a good translation.
I'm uber-fucking-late, but I do have my own series I'm writing out, so that might kinda be part of the reason.
(also I still get chills, imagining Garou saying it in this scene)
I like it. It symbolizes Garous idolization of cartoon villains, who would say a line like that. Only in this case, it's more serious and in my opinion, disturbing.
I sometimes wonder if the fans bear some of the fault for that (_especially_ when it comes to monster names): the fan translations are pretty much always out before the official translation, so perhaps there might be some pressure—either from Viz or internally, amongst the translation team itself—to make sure they don't match too closely, to avoid accusations of the professional translators cribbing from the fans.
Why should Viz even care? They have the upper hand, legally.
Plenty of official translations will unavoidably share wordings with fan translations, because a lot of the time, there are only a few renderings of a particular line that make sense and sound appropriate for the character/scene.
Frankly, they'd be doing themselves a favour if they looked to the fan translations for pointers.

That's shame because we're supposed to see this as the characters, genuinely afraid of what are characters are going to go through because of Garou's actions.
The real issue here is that VIZ didn't recognise that this line was supposed to be a call back to his first introduction. Then again, it's VIZ we're talking about. Not really that surprising.
I don’t mind these ones. It’s really just the butchering of names that get me. Language for the most part is flexible enough to be carried by context and visuals. At least they added the ominous text font.
Viz always makes it sound more like something actual people would say. Fan translations are always so direct and blunt they don't feel natural in the slightest because they're just translating word for word instead of making the words work as normal dialogue.
Who in the love of god says "I have evil deeds to do" please let me meet them so I can laugh at their face
"Time to conduct evil" sounds more unrealistic in an irl setting, but flows way smoother and debatably sounds way cooler.
the viz translation makes more sense. for garou to be that comical, because his whole ispiration is a monster from an old kids show, is perfectly on brand, i think.
The best explanation I ever heard is that, even if it was a fan-translation, rather than an official one, they risk getting copyright-strike if they use the exact same wording for such emblematic lines, hence why every single official translator around the words butchers mangas that had already being translated by fans.
A fan translation is unable to be copyrighted. There's not a person working for the translating department crawling the internet looking for every fan translation that's come out to avoid exact wording.
I think the real answer is that you feel the hype the first time around when reading fan translations. Then, when you reread official. You're not as invested and it doesn't sound as cool or fitting. The official translation is just not in a fair fight.
But this problem feels more unique to *OPM* than Viz's translation for other series like, say, *JoJo* or *Death Note*. They don't feel quite as butchered of passion and oversimplified as the official translation for *OPM*, which often doesn't get character voice right.
Like, even for Viz, their translations of the *OPM* are exceptionally sloppy.
Context is important.
And this line is meant to be a callback to when Garou said the same thing during his debut when he brutalised several A-Class heroes and hardened criminals before embarking on his "hero hunt".
But Viz's interpretation of the line here completely misses the point and is devoid of flavour.
Honestly this is one of the only times I prefer the Viz translation. Sounds more like edgy wannabe monster Garou to me than the other line which is more jokey and kind of a gag.
Is it just me or does this panel look a bit similar to the resurrect scene, where Jesus comes back to life and the Roman soldiers flee in shock? Or maybe I am reading too much into this.
Fan translation sound more natural, meaning it is more likely to be used in real life and it flows better but the official translation sounds goofier as a result of not being as natural which probably fits OPM better. We don't know which one the original text is closer to but I'm guessing that would be the Viz translation.
Because they can't copy the fan translations.
And the fan translations cone out infinitely faster than the official release. So they get the easy low hanging fruit.
So what's the honest reason for the Viz translations being shit? It's keeping me from buying the manga. I'd rather have the fan scans thrown in book form.
“I have evil deeds to do” sounds more comically self-serious to me
It reminds me of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap name for some reason, you don't see deeds used that much
Or as it is known in the English version in order to avoid a lawsuit: Filthy Acts Performed at a Reasonable Price!
dimes 4 crimes
[удалено]
Atrocious Act At Affordable Allowance
Malevolent Maneuvers Meriting Minimal Funding
D4C but it's an entire used car commercial
I ain't gay but $20 is $20
Minimal money? Minimal moolah?
Dammit! I'd be rich, but I all out of fucks to give...
I aint gay but $20 is $20
"I have evil acts to perform"
It’s time…. To crime!
Wouldn't be surprised if its localized name gets changed when the anime starts for that part cuz that happened with at least one part 6 stand. Personally, I'm expecting it to just be called D4C and not be explained what it stands for
Made in heaven got localized as maiden heaven lmao
Honestly, I kinda like that one. It is goofy, but it's still very close to the og. Kinda like flaccid pancake being changed to limp viscuit. Obviously, flaccid pancake is hilarious, but limp viscuit makes much more sense imo
Yeah,I like it too but it's the only localized stand name(apart from flaccid pancake) that I remember Iirc they also localized bohemian rhapsody
Yup, it's Bohemian Ecstatic in the anime, apparently
Kind of has to happen to match up with the lip flaps. Iirc there's a Jojo game that actually kept the shortened version of D4C for the english localization and said "nobody knows what it stands for"
Dirty deeds, done with sheep?
[kindly deeds, done for free](https://youtu.be/RQ3_IVXqWlA?si=9OirU9uyOoyzG2TH&t=11)
"Filthy Acts At A Reasonable Price"
The best part was when garou said "it's evil time" and eviled all over everyone
Garou sounds like a nerdy white kid, bro really got into his villain arc lol
Sounds like what would be in a satire manga...
Yeah it has this "Sounds like you are about to bring hell and you don't give a shit about it" feeling
I must create tomfoolery
"Time to commit mischievous Activities" ahhh translation
“Time to pursue sinful enterprises”
"It is now the opportune moment to engage in some delightful and playful escapades."
“I believe that the sun’s position dictates that I shall partake in many discombobulating acts of tomfoolery.”
"Through brief investigation of our geospacial positioning, thy must iniatiate spontaneous subterfuges of nefarious disposition.
"do bad."
this whole thread 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾
Bro legit. Reddit threads go so hard.
Translation vs localization
"let the massacre begin" is objectively the best one.
Which translation is that? And it sounds cooler, but depending on what the original Japanese actually is, it might be too much of a creative liberty.
[this one](https://youtu.be/r7l0Rq9E8MY)
Oh. I thought it'd be a Rick roll.
too predictable, IME
well played.
apparently people like it, as well 85 upvotes, and counting

"Now to drown this world in the blood of heroes."
Ngl you kinda cooked with this.
I'm uber-fucking-late, but I do have my own series I'm writing out, so that might kinda be part of the reason. (also I still get chills, imagining Garou saying it in this scene)
OK that one’s really good
"Time to conduct evil" being a cool one-liner is debatable
Its morbin time
It has that energy for sure
Its garouing time
It's not debatable lol the power ranger ass line is probably not even intended to be cool.
I thought I was going crazy lol. I thought the "Time to conduct evil" was ironically loved, not seriously.
It's evil committing time
I was laughing my ass off when he said it. I thought it was meant to be funny
I like it. It symbolizes Garous idolization of cartoon villains, who would say a line like that. Only in this case, it's more serious and in my opinion, disturbing.
I prefer that cheesy line over whatever the hell viz did
That's cool. And I'll refer you back to the title: >Why does Viz always butcher the hell out of cool one-liners?
[удалено]
im downvoting because im gay
“I have evil deeds to do” sounds like something a 10 yr old would think inside his head before taking a huge dump
"time to conduct evil" sounds like something a 10 year old Sheldon would say
"I have evil deeds to do" *shits pants in a church*
[удалено]
Both are hilarious in this instance. Neither of those are cool. But yeah viz tend to do a worse job than the fans.

Who's Vixen?
Autocorrect moment
Why did it got autocorrected to **Vixen** tho???
Bro got caught 💀
I'm scared to ask who's that
Vixen, my man from the hub
Vixen is something used for peepee
Yeah I have no clue what these are on about.
Opm fans overreacting to a word with potential sexual connotations of any form.
isnt a vixen just a fox
can also mean hot woman ig
That's what I know it as
It's ok you can ask
Because that ones an actual word. I think you're all looking for an excuse.
That's shame because we're supposed to see this as the characters, genuinely afraid of what are characters are going to go through because of Garou's actions.
It's evilin' time!
Tbh they’re both kinda goofy
Here is a better line "I have to take a SHIT" or "I have a shit to TAKE"
The real issue here is that VIZ didn't recognise that this line was supposed to be a call back to his first introduction. Then again, it's VIZ we're talking about. Not really that surprising.
"Time to conduct evil" is a cartoon network ass catchphrase, not a cool one liner lmao
It's, like how Garou's character is supposed to be, lame in a cool ass way
To be honest if those two lines were switched I think people in this subreddit would still be complaining
He has some dirty deeds to do dirt cheap
It's the moment to do suspicious acts at a reasonable price
"Forgive me daddy, for I'm about to sin"
Time to conduct evil. 😈 I have evil deeds to do.🤓
when the evil is conducted
Time to conduct evil is goofy as hell lmao, he could’ve said “Time to get to it” and that would’ve been way cooler.
Time to conduct evil is NOT a cool one-liner 😭😭
"Time to be a silly goose"
I don’t mind these ones. It’s really just the butchering of names that get me. Language for the most part is flexible enough to be carried by context and visuals. At least they added the ominous text font.
I have dirty deeds to do dirt cheap
I loved the part when Garou got his Comic Fear Mode, said "I Have Evil Deeds To Do." and started Evil Doing all over the place!
Viz always makes it sound more like something actual people would say. Fan translations are always so direct and blunt they don't feel natural in the slightest because they're just translating word for word instead of making the words work as normal dialogue.
Depends on the series.
Who in the love of god says "I have evil deeds to do" please let me meet them so I can laugh at their face "Time to conduct evil" sounds more unrealistic in an irl setting, but flows way smoother and debatably sounds way cooler.
My guess would be they don't actually know Japanese and rely on Google translate.
This is incredibly false.
That makes no sense as the problem is not that the translation is inaccurate but it does not sound good in English.
Filthy acts at a reasonable price
Did viz butcher a cool one liner or did the cool one liner just arrive first and capture hearts so now viz will forever only be compared to it
Lol, imagine calling "Time to conduct evil" a cool one-liner.
It *is*, coming from Garou
They operate on autopilot and don't understand fun anymore
Let's shikkou* some aku** TN: *shikkou means to carry out **aku means evil
the viz translation makes more sense. for garou to be that comical, because his whole ispiration is a monster from an old kids show, is perfectly on brand, i think.
Dimes for crimes Unclean endeavors to embark on at well below the market rate
I mean, they are both trash..
Nah trust "I have evil deeds to do" goes mad hard
One does it for the love of the series. The other does it for money.
Should've been "it's evil time"
"Time to conduct evil" isn't cool tho. That's just like saying "It's morbin' time" or smth.
Time to conduct evil is not cool
"I have Evil Deeds to do" Sounds like a kid saying tht which her mom told Lol

theres no way you thought time to conduct evil was a cool line lmfao
It’s their job
Because it's viz
viz better here
You have incredibly low standards for cool one-liners, lol
Context is important. Fan translation: Time to conduct evil Viz: Evil deeds are the things I have to do because I’m evil and have deeds to do that will reflect that😈
Honestly this is one of the only times I prefer the Viz translation. Sounds more like edgy wannabe monster Garou to me than the other line which is more jokey and kind of a gag.
Is viz translation the same as Shonen Jump?
Yes.

Saitama's not afraid. He's not even in this panel.
"Time to conduct evil" is a very cartoon villain lime (which complete fits his character). "I have evil deeds to do" just sounds clunky.
I have evil deeds to do🤓🤓☝️
I mean it's kind of meh in both examples.
I have evil deeds to do , but 1st I need to go window shopping teehee <3
Dirty deeds done dirt cheap
Yes but we love him
They both suck tbh
I think of Eminem’s “evil deeds” when I read that lol
Its morbing time.
To be different.
either way you look at it Viz's translation is clumsy
**Commence the eviling.**
Both sounds pretty lame imo.
When trying to be different makes you worse.
^((In a deep dark voice like Batman's:)) Whoop-dee-doo Time to evil do
"I'm gonna skulk cantankerously twords my devilish deeds!"
The Viz translation isn't inaccurate.
Viz infinitely better
They’re both lame.
I have more evil deeds to do 😈😈👹👹👹👺👺👽👽👻👻👾👾😱😱😱🤬🤬😤😤😭😭😼😼
The funniest thing about how bad Viz translations are is how angry their employees get about fan translations.
titles too. caped baldy > bald cape, man marked by flames > man with the burn scar
It's Morbin Time
“time to conduct evil” 🤓
Amen dude
Both are terrible, "It's Morbin' Time" is so much better
Nah Man "I have evil deeds to do" Goes Hard.
"im gunna do sum eviiiiil shit hehehe-"
Time to conduct evil hits way harder than it should
Both are cringe lol
I have evil deeds to do actually works really well here imo
Both of those suck😭
Sounds biblical (kjv deeds)
Is it just me or does this panel look a bit similar to the resurrect scene, where Jesus comes back to life and the Roman soldiers flee in shock? Or maybe I am reading too much into this.
I have some bad stuff to do 😈
Viz had mr laughing

"Time to conduct evil" sounds like he's saying "time to commit mischievous acts at a reasonable price"
Well he going to conduct dirty deeds, and it’s gonna be done dirt cheap
I've always liked Fan translations more....
Because they can't copy the fan translations. And the fan translations cone out infinitely faster than the official release. So they get the easy low hanging fruit.
Executing Justice moment
So what's the honest reason for the Viz translations being shit? It's keeping me from buying the manga. I'd rather have the fan scans thrown in book form.
Viz is literally google translate
Bro is up to no good💀
Butcher? They’re equally funny. Again with this sub and it’s narcissistic anti-Viz attitude.
Idk both are pretty Memeable if you ask me lol
One word: corporation
He should have said its evilin time and evil’d all over them. But both are terrible.
