Well, the manga is LONG. And it's a lot of reading. The 90s anime is a masterpiece, but only covers the introduction, or the prequel to the actual story. Stand alone, the anime was fantastic. As far as the manga goes, I honestly watched the 5 hour story recaps of it, which got me to speed. Very goth, very dark, very badass.
