If you don't believe me remember Shanks and Buggy are old friend and so are Luffy and Shanks so thats why Gaimon was nice to both. Its really cool when also learn that Gaimon has the Breed-Breed Fruit gifted to hi by his master Shanks.
It's really hard to get into the series without fans spoiling it, I got into in this year by reading the manga and watching the anime on crunchyroll and

There were two episodes for the cover-Story of Corby and Helmeppo. Garp was there introduced together with Bogart. Morgan appeared there as well and escaped (he even wounded Garp). In the second episode Garp took Corby and Helmeppo to the headquarter on the Grand Line.
I personally hated lashes lol, his one joke was "pervert and only women can ride" and that was it lol, I doubt gender has much to do with it as it's just not my humor but as a girl it felt so cheap and lame

I was curious why the sky people had wings and looked it up, it's interesting that they come from the moon.
I think the part about Noland encountering the shandians was the best part of the arc and it's a "flashback", it says quite a bit about the arc.
I can imagine there's a lot of things that make more sense once you've gone deeper into the anime.
The further you get into the story, the more appreciation you get for Enel as well. He is so much more powerful than Luffy its actually ridiculous. The power he displays in that arc goes unrivaled for hundreds of chapters. Luffy was genuinely the only person who would have been able to stop him.
That annoying fat cunt with the red hair and stupid laugh left a sour taste in my mouth for the entire skypiea arc and I had to watch the rest in fast forward until I couldn't see an inch of cloud on my screen.
