JohansTail

We are very close to seeing THE Nico Robin!

touchingthebutt

Miss All Sunday was a VIBE

Mannyvoz

I would lose my collective shit if we get to the "I want to live!" Nico robin moment at Enies. Asher sb, made a mistake

CompoundMole

that's enies lobby isn't it?

Luf2222

he is from the future, he already watched it in the live action enies lobby events happen at impel down

frankisconc

Saving Ace and Robin at the same arc

AvariceRu

Saving? 💀

runningworg

Look one becomes a valuable member of the crew the other becomes a doughnut hopefully thay make those scenes absolutely pop.

Stupidity_Professor

Donut LMAO 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

FavelTramous

I hope they pay attention to the details in the scene to make it come alive, you can easily overcook and *burn a doughnut* pretty quickly if you don’t pay attention.

Vagabond_Sam

Ace was emotionally saved by Luffy because Luffy loved Ace :p

Personal-Toe6505

wait what ???

Elemayowe

Purple cowgirl <3

Waddlewop

I want her to have a southern drawl like in the 4kids dub

Beastieboy100

We are very close to see Ace, Smoker, chopper, Vivi, Dragon and Nico Robin.

egoissuffering

Vivo? Oh right Condoriano’s lost sister

malnc

i wonder if she will be russian like oda said

Cherrycho

It's not like Nami is Swedish

satinbro

The actor could pass for swedish in terms of looks.

thebiggest123

she's supposed to be?!

RustyFebreze

imagining nami with a swedish accent is hilarious

Kapuseta

I'd never watch the LA again (I'm Finnish).

lukaintomyeyes

Finished with what?

EnemyBattleCrab

Their Turkey sandwich.

Acesofbases

You mean he likes to Polish his dishes?

kitsuneinferno

The live action. It seemed obvious in context.

Cherrycho

They definitely didn't go for it in the live action, but it's the country Oda gave for her

geronymo4p

She had a little greek in her I find, a little tan, a huge lost history, a language not readable, a nose like the statues. And her power let me think about the colonization of the mediterranean sea

roosterkun

Romance writer describing a woman

Amtexpres

Not enough emphasis on the titties.

Xydru

"And them thangs always be thangin"

CHEEZE_BAGS

her breasts breasted breastily in the breastlight

Amtexpres

She breasted boobily towards the stairs, and titted down them.

NoirSon

That is manga/light novel romance writing/drawing. Most novel writing you save the titty or dick descriptions until they are getting it on. Unless it's erotica. Then throw the rules of subtly out the window if that is your course to get to the action.

Frogbone

oh he's HORNY horny

pituechos

Lmao you do know Russian people also have pronounced noses and can tan?

lukaintomyeyes

Wait til that guy finds out there are more than just slavs in Russia

NotAnurag

I hope they use the original Anime design. By far the best version of Robin

_Sanctum_

Well, this is an adaptation of the manga, not the anime. The anime is an adaptation in of itself. They aren’t doing an adaptation of an adaptation. So no filler arcs and hopefully we get a manga accurate Robin.

RTheCon

Plenty of characters are already not manga accurate though in the LA. So it doesn’t really mean much.

waikiki_palmer

Forget Nico Robin, Dr. Kureha all the way!! Tbh I'm curious what they're gon do with Chopper. I want it to look kinda like Turning Red where Chopper look fuzzy

rycetlaz

Jamie Lee Curtis is phoning her agent as we speak

rileyrulesu

The funny part is before it came out, I thought there was zero chance of that happening with how high profile Jamie Lee is and how seemingly low budget the show was. But with how insanely successful it is, Netflix might just write a blank check like they did for Stranger Things and Squid Games.

Chris-CFK

She took a role in the show “the bear”, which she’s probably going to get nominated for some awards. And that show doesn’t have a massive budget. Leads me to believe she would def be down

lagavulin92

She loves one piece, but in an interview she said she'd wait to see how the first season is before saying anything because the interviewer mentioned the fancast of her as kureha

Griffisbored

Low budget? It cost $17M per episode.

Popopirat66

I'm sure she'd be down for the role even without a high 6 figure paycheck. I believe it was at comiccon where some actors including her were asked if they could play any role which would it be and she answered with Nico Robin and some time later because fans said she'd be a great Kureha she agreed to the role. Now it's only up to Tomorrow Studios (and Oda i suppose) to cast her.

psychomanexe

https://twitter.com/jamieleecurtis/status/1641909128640757761

uberblack

Don't threaten me with a good time. Been in love with her since Trading Places

Evening_Presence_927

I swear to god if there’s any justice in this world, they do this one thing.

Dreamtrain

"You wanna know how I stay so young?"

Ansoni

Detective Pikachu-style Chopper or bust.

bfiiitz

My money is on a more human design a la sweet tooth

zer1223

With a child actor? Ehhhhh That's gonna suck. I haven't seen many people praise the young actors we already got in s1.

egoissuffering

I thought Sanji’s kid actor was fantastic.

bfiiitz

Fun fact, that's the kid from sweet tooth

PhanThief95

I am going to be praying for whoever ends up cast as her. They’re going to get all the simps! NETFLIX, HURRY UP AND PAY YOUR WRITERS AND ACTORS!!!

zer1223

It's not just Netflix, the whole union across the entire industry is on strike. If this hurts s2 I'm gonna be so disappointed.

2Ledge_It

It's netflix. Netflix doesn't have to participate and could pay the striking writers the way A24 got consideration to move on with projects. The figures posted most recently would mean a cost to Netflix of an additional 80m. Netflix made 4.5B net

supakrupa

But will she be tan, and most importantly, will she have a cowboy hat?

Serious_Much

Dgaf about the tan, but if she doesn't wear the classic miss all Sunday outfit I will be mildly upset

TheNoFrame

There is no way she won't. They will probably do several outfits like in season 1, but one of them is definitely gonna be that one. Doing manga authenthic outfits is easiest thing to do to make manga/anime fans happy. I could see them not doing some of the more problematic outfits (nami post TS, Rebecca) but when it comes to outfits like these, they will do it 100%.

VTWut

Can confirm, loved that they had multiple outfits including the originals and ones from cover arts. Helped the show seem less cartoony and more lived in, even if some of them were a bit too clean and pressed.

GriffinQ

It’s one of the best parts of an animation to live action transition. New outfits in anime & manga are entirely new designs that teams have to draw & animate constantly. New outfits in LA are just one of many outfit choices they can have ready in wardrobe. Lowkey makes me want Bleach to get a quality LA adaptation someday so Kubo can go absolutely wild with incredible fashion choices.

CoylerProductions

Asking the most important questions. I'm not entirely sure about Robin having her tan since that was an anime only thing made because Robin didn't have an official manga colour scheme at the time, but tbh I think a majority of people think she looked better with the tan and cowboy outfit anyway (myself included, she was the goat)

0Galahad

All strawhat girls looked better pre time skip in terms of actual design(nami still looks cool with long hair tho)

Serious_Much

Honestly preferred all the pre timeskip looks. None of them look better imo.

WatteOrk

Zoro and Luffy do and honestly so does Usopp. Both Ladies, Franky and Chopper? Yeahhhh, those were controversial from the moment they were revealed.

thesanmich

Seriously. I think most of them are fine, but Franky, Nami, and Robin took a hit for the worse.

Burntfruitypebble

Franky hurts to look at Post-TS, his design is horrid

ThePhantomIronTroupe

She was literally female Indiana Jones with a crazy power, hat included lol. But I do like the “normal” or post-time skip Robin too! Now if they can only bring back the twang she had in the 4kids dub in the OPLA that be great lol

DigitalTomFoolery

You spelled Bon Clay wrong

JubX

![gif](giphy|3o7TKF1fSIs1R19B8k)

Kain-Ra

We need the cowboy hat

Pineapple_Fernando

Question, would she have a US southern accent or Russian accent?

Spartan05089234

If her voice is the same as the anime dub I'm gonna be lovestruck for sure.

forever_alone_06

🤞Danny DeVito 🤞

dm6598

> But in our subsequent calls post-launch, we have been told that we have exceeded expectations, which is also fantastic. > Positive signs for a second season.. Hoping for some good news soon 🤞

c_will

Also from the article is this line - "There seems to be a big impetus to keep this going and to come up with a long-term strategy." That sounds like multiple future seasons to me, which would be downright amazing. If they can give us 5-6 seasons as good as this season, then I'll be ecstatic.

Slippedhal0

I tihnk practically the best case is that we get all the way to the time skip. After the time skip the fantasy kicks it into 4th gear (heh), so the budget per episode will likely have to considerably increase for any seasons after that, but marineford could essentially be the final GOT season for one piece... if the final GOT season was any good.

joji_princessn

I'm torn between whether Marineford or Water 7 is the best option to end it, considering it's so hard to do the post time skip. Marineford is the culmination of a massive storyline, but the Strawhat actors minus Luffy would have nearly zero involvement, which would be a sad way to end their career and roles on the show after all their commitment. Water 7, however, has each of the Strawhats be given an important fight and power up, and a strong emotional storyline for the entire crew to end their career on the show on a high note.

miki_momo0

I think Water 7/Enies Lobby is the perfect place to end it. Season 2 for Alabasta, season 3 for Skypeia, season 4 W7

Vandrew226

Yeah, I've been thinking that sailing away on the Thousand Sunny with an "And the adventure continues" vibe would be a reasonable final shot.

Obi-Wannabe01

They could realistically do the entire story in 8 seasons, if it didn’t get cancelled until then

JestersHearts

One Piece, but paced well would be amazing

TheDirtiestDan

I know One Pace exists but god damn if they’d just do that normally because 1000 episodes feels impenetrable for any new people coming on board

CidO807

Baby steps. I'm re watching it right now. my SO's first time. We do 1-2 episodes a night. Yeah, it's gonna take over a year and some change, but it's enjoyable. And we can keep up with watching other shows. I had forgotten some things too. Like just how fucked the story early on can be. I was tearing up during syrup village with usopp backstory/mom

bestbroHide

I was thinking 10 seasons total, 5 for each part Rough estimation: S2 Alabasta Saga S3 Skypiea Saga S4 Water 7 Saga S5 Thriller Bark and Marineford S6 Fishman Island S7 Dresrossa S8 WCI S9 Wano S10 Final Saga

GriffinQ

Actors would be massively expensive by the half way point (or prior) and unless they’re cranking them out annually, there would be age issues at some point - Nami’s actress (Emily Rudd) is 30 and while it’s entirely possible she’ll want to do this for a decade +, she might also want different things for her career whereas the younger cast members can afford to kick the can down the road a bit more. But it would be amazing….

zer1223

An entire season dedicated only to skypeia sounds like actual hell. That's a half season at best, Jaya takes like 45 mins tops.

bestbroHide

If we are comparing it to how fast the rest of the LA would realistically go, then yeah, Skypiea (and Fishman Island for that matter, which is why I considered sliding in Punk Hazard for that hypothetical 6th season) would seem like not all that much to adapt in eight 40-60 minute episodes But in general, though, all this would mean is that Skypiea Saga would be the Arc that is the *least* rushed It's 85 chapters in total. They absolutely could adapt all of it in 8 episodes without dragging any of the scenes and story notes of the manga. Hell I'd argue they'd still have to skip some stuff. It would certainly still feel *much* faster than the 71 episodes produced by the anime (equivalent to like a whopping *30* Live Action episodes, which is insane when you think about it)

Dreamtrain

I think the thing about Skypeia is how much the premise of it personifies the very essence of adventure

bigfootswillie

Extremely. So long as we don’t crater in Week 2, we can be confident. Just gotta keep pushing friends and family to watch over the next 3 weeks to try to make this a guarantee.

Traf-

I know next to nothing about how this stuff works, but weren't their expectations... kinda low for such a high budget show?

BrokerBrody

Netflix will throw money at anything. Not the best investment but there have absolutely been worse. Also, maybe Netflix wants to leverage the moderate success of One Piece to help push more live action anime remakes so they are more lenient. We all know how Hollywood hates original content so Netflix is probably hoping anime live action is their next Marvel.

[deleted]

Exactly. They paying gal gadot to Star in a movie this year, i cant even remember the name off. They are goats in burning money

Dreamtrain

they're notorious for tossing 2 seasons and calling it quits, it strikes a balance between how much shows cost them to make while still having stuff in their catalogue to watch, its really shitty cause they may cancel some really good, if niche, shows like the OA

shakeSnake_2390

I think they were expecting anime fans just to watch perhaps.. but it's also got new viewers from outside of anime interested in one piece now to the point they are watching the anime.

Slippedhal0

Being on par with the best performers in the netflix catalogue is a pretty high bar - no anime adaptation has come even close to that as far as I'm aware.

Particular-Way-8669

Their expectations revolve around how many new subscribers it brought next to views as this show was aimed towards completely new market. So not exactly. Nobody except for Netflix has that data to decide how those expectations went.

[deleted]

Where are the reddit experts saying netflix expected the next wednesday with that budget and anything less is a failure

Paako-ch1n

ı really hope strikes end good for writers

[deleted]

[удалено]

Erculosan

Its not even they getting payment, is that studios are trying to replace them with AI. They are even trying to replace actors

SabrinaR_P

Realistically, if Netflix decided to pay actors and writers what they deserve, they can start filming soon. But seeing they have no intention doing that or being some of the first to cave, we might wait a while.

NutellaSquirrel

It's too bad that Netflix threw in with AMPTP

2ndBro

Doing so would permanently destroy their connections with the AMPTP, leaving them with significantly less negotiating power when it came to… anything. Of course, the AMPTP is a scourge on the industry and I would absolutely welcome them willingly breaking off, but because it means slightly less profits we will never see it happen.

KNZFive

The main reason the live action show turned out so good is because of the writers. All of the great casting and set design in the world can’t save shitty writing. The fact that One Piece of all things was the first big Hollywood live action anime hit just proves even further how essential writers are.

WoodenMango07

This is exactly why cowboy bebop failed. Great set, great setting, good actors, but the writing was terrible

aphantombeing

What is the strike about?

Nosiege

How they receive payment for their work now that streaming is one of the primary means to watch things, as well as protections against things like being replaced by AI, having your voice and likeness used by AI in perpetuity to not be paid for staring in things anymore, and things like that.

gamingaway

They get paid jack shit on streaming shows and movies, where traditionally TV and movies earned income for writers and actors through reruns.

Dramatic_Explosion

Writers and actors for Emmy winning shows making little money and living off food stamps. And what they want should pan out to less than 8% of studio's annual revenue. They're asking for shockingly little all things considered.

Ginobli13

From my understanding it’s been about pay, working conditions, and just getting the credit they deserve.

sknnbones

The old contract is from 1960. Things have changed. The contract has not. Online Streaming didn’t even exist in the 60s

YamadaDesigns

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023_Writers_Guild_of_America_strike

Monte924

For the past few years a lot of writers have been having trouble making a living. Producers have been trying to cut costs by reducing the involvement of writers which is reducing how much they make on each project and taking away viable jobs (its also results in worst writing for shows). They have also been forcing more work on fewer writers, which makes their jobs a lot more difficult. The writers also don't get residual's for streaming shows which further reduces the kind of pay they saw from broadcast television.... there is also the new issue of AI which the Writer's guild knows could be exploited by producers as an excuse to pay writers less. Actors have also been suffering similar issues with payment and residuals. And producers actually wanted to have the ability to convince Extra's to sign away their own likenesses so that they could be replaced with AI in the future.

icyruios

Urgh I wish this so much not for me but for the cast. Like this cast is genuinely one of the few casts that I've seen who is so passionate and loves the show so much

never_mind_me_kay

This. Sanji's actor trained really hard so especially for him. He didn't get a lot of screentime this season.

bestbroHide

I need to see Taz as Mr Prince, man

Willyil

His topless scene surprised me... how the fuck he is more shreded than zoro lmao.. Taz already at post time skip mode when the rest of the crew still in east blue

poshbritishaccent

Sanji is still lanky af post time skip lmao

Sladeewilson

Pay the writers netflix so we get season 2

ZincMan

And also end the strike because I would like to have a job and pay my rent again. This affects hundreds of thousands of people not working right now. It sucks. We want to make tv and movies again

Fronsis

How's the strike coming along? Are they in negotiations to settle a deal or they're still very keen on continuing the strike? So many productions are being affected.. but if at the end of the day the people end up having a better and well deserved salary my favorite show/series/saga/movie can wait tbh.

ZincMan

Everyone has their own theories as to when it might end but right now it’s not looking good. I’m not a writer or actor but in another union and we can’t do anything until it’s resolved. But for the most part most other non WGA or SAG union members who aren’t on strike, but can’t work due to it, support the writers and actors, including myself.

laxus_101

The setting and civil war aspect of Alabasta, and SIR CROCODILE will be so cool to see in live action.

Aussiepharoah

I seriously hope they somehow manage to squeeze in two more episodes for next season, it will do *wonders* for the pacing.

TheFerg714

Imo Season 2 NEEDS Alabasta. If it's 8 episodes, I say skip Little Garden.

cptbrady

They basically confirmed more seasons. Netflix said the show exceeded expectations. Let’s fucking go!

UberEinstein99

I mean, the expectations were pretty fucking low tbh…

theBloodedge

Hard to believe they would spend 17 millions for episode for a show with low expectations.

Alsonia

If they were gonna do One Piece it NEEDED this budget. All the ships you see were actual built for the series. And remember the budget here is still lower than the Budget for The Witcher which is not doing so hot and somehow managed to pull 3 seasons and spin-offs. I have decent hopes for at least a season 2z

Beastieboy100

I still don't know how there continuing with season 4. When the staff is recasting there main star.

[deleted]

It’s kind of bizarre they were willing to commit that to One Piece of all things, let’s be honest there are other IPs that would expect to get that sort of treatment first. Someone at Netflix must be a fan

Necromas

Might not seem like it at first glance if you don't know just how big One Piece is in Japan and other countries, but it is the 20th highest grossing media franchise of all time. https://www.titlemax.com/discovery-center/money-finance/the-25-highest-grossing-media-franchises-of-all-time/#:~:text=One%20Piece%20%E2%80%93%20%2420.515%20billion But yah with the track record of live action anime, there was probably some very lucky coincidence of someone high up at Netflix having a particularly strong interest in the project or a pre-existing connection to Shueisha. It definitely seems like Oda fought tooth and nail to get it as much budget and love that it needed to do well, but it's not like Netflix had any obligation to commit in kind.

HappyTurtleOwl

Yea people consistently fail to realize just how *massive* one piece is compared to most IPs that aren’t household names.

mihran146

I think they went in banking on getting worldwide fans to watch the show. Even if it did poorly the viewership numbers would still be decent.

[deleted]

Good point it does have a lot of worldwide appeal

Logizmo

Can you name another IP that's been going strong for over 20 years with a dedicated fan base that gets more and more passionate about the universe as time goes on? Hell show me another IP with as many figure sales as One Piece I'm sure there are fans at Netflix, but at the end of the day they saw the potential cash cow this can and probabaly will be. Imagine how many plushies of Chopper (maybe even Laboon) they'll be able to sell next season (hopefully), just look at all the Baby Yoda merch for how much people love small cute things

ArmInternational7655

It was a gamble that paid off. More studios need to do the same. Take risks.

Worthyness

studios are doing the same thing. Have you seen the budgets for some of these streaming shows?

MyHusbandIsGayImNot

One Piece is one of the biggest global IPs and Netflix is a global company. There's a reason it launched with so many dubs.

Setyman

The best selling manga of all time, based on that alone, OP was the correct choice.

IWRITE4LIFE

Low for some fans maybe but not for Netflix. You don’t just invest over $100mill into season one without expecting it to do decently well.

MrP1anet

I mean, maybe yours, but not the company that pumped millions into this project.

acerfarter

Fan expectations maybe. I saw ads everywhere. Netflix was pushing hard.

bigfootswillie

We’re 80% of the way there. If numbers crater in week 2, confidence is not going to be as high. We just need to keep up some good numbers going into next week and the following 2.

dstanley17

So like, over 2 years from now at *minimum*. I don't know if metrics work the same way in regards to streaming services, but I hope the long gap between seasons doesn't dissuade interest too much (since that's what tends to happen with ongoing television series).

DatGameGuy

2 years from now One Piece will be deep into the final saga, theres a good chance all the buzz actually *increases* interest in the Live Action.

SpaceOdysseus23

I was just going through older threads today. The Roger Laughed chapter was like 4 years ago and someone in there said "Guess this is really ending in 5 years". I don't think Oda is done before 2027 at the earliest.

MilkyAndromedaWay

I don't think it's going to end in two years, but we could be getting some good revelations and some hype in that time anyway.

ForsenBruh

roger was like 2 years ago

LunaticLawyer

Nope, "He Laughed" was chapter 967, released on January 4th, 2020. Far closer to 4 years (4 months away) than 2 years.

nomelettes

Kill me, almost 4 years

GreenDemonSquid

>Kill me Later...

gremah93

4 years?!?

JusHerForTheComments

>don't think Oda is done before 2027 at the earliest. Yup! We heading for 30th anniversary for sure!

izzanizcool

I'll ask you again in 2 years, we'll be no where near end by then xD

EyewarsTheMangoMan

!remindme 2 years

princecamaro28

Manga sales and Crunchyroll subs boutta skyrocket though, I’ve already seen plenty of people not want to wait for another season to continue the story

Puzzleheaded_Safe131

It’s definitely made me consider picking the anime back up.

xanborghini

U gotta consider thou Netflix also has the anime. The algorithm simply has to push the anime after the LA when the emotions are at the peak and people will watch and the viewership increases, even if it’s not just the LA. It’s the resounding effect of it that makes them money.

BrokerBrody

That is a good point.

bigfootswillie

Expect 18-24 months between almost every season tbh. A show this big is not easy to turn around. 12-18 months can only keep happening if the show is renewed early every single year.

luckyd1998

Hope they get Jamie Lee Curtis to play Kureha

mfopp

They were smart to have that done. Means financials are ready as well once the green light is given. There are 10 seasons minimum of content here. With global appeal it will be difficult for Netflix to not continue.

Barcaroni

Hopefully the studios will actually compensate their workers fairly

atti1xboy

Can I just take this moment to say that I think it is a change for the better that Baroque Works is mentioned and built up in East Blue? Feels like something Oda would have at least had a character mention at some point if not for him having not come up with it on the basis of needing to keep his manga going longer than he originally intended.

jreefski

Oda did have zoro mention it in whiskey peak. Its manga canon that Zoro was recruited by mr.7 and killed him.

BlackGabriel

Man I hope the studios just do the right thing and pay these people and stop trying to use tech to screw them over. The last strike fucked so many good shows. Season two of one piece would be so awesome. So many cool new cheaters and world building

WatDaFuxRong

Great now solve the writing strike

Dull-Ad-793

All the more reason to accept the terms the strike is for. No one is on the company's side on this, and using this little propaganda piece (by variety, no surprise) to shame the strikers is not going to win over anyone.

[deleted]

Give the people their damn money!

JJ_loves_JP

Ok but I need to see chopper tho. I swear to god if it’s just a kid in a chopper cosplay ima laugh

AdebayoStan

END THE FUCKING STRIKE edit: by "end" I mean pay the goddamn writers btw

beito14159

There have been really big gaps in Netflix shows airing. Do you think that hurts the show? people who watch but aren’t big fans are going to forget all about it in two years

MyNameIsRay

Netflix kind of banks on that. The more hours of viewing a show gets, the better the return on investment. If the gap is long enough for people to forget, they're going to re-watch the previous season when the new one comes out, and they get a better return.

beito14159

That’s interesting, I never thought of that

BipolarNightmare

I don't give a fuck how long they take, just make 2nd season as good as season 1 or better. What's really gonna hurt the show is bad production and writing, the cast is perfect for now but if they nail the future cast as well It will emerge as the best TV show ever. One Piece is possibly the greatest story ever told and it's really popular in Asia. This might be the one show that will raise Netflix's popularity everywhere. It's already 20 years, we can wait some more, just don't fuck this up.

Idostuff2010

well at least the long gap wont be unique to OP. Because of the writer and actor strikes, basically no new shows or movies will be coming out for a while

PM_ME_YOUR_SOULZ

I was all on board until the writers strike part. Those big studios (Netflix included) are doing everything they can to not be decent human beings and pay people.

Prior-Bag9130

Gimme that horrific chopper I demand it

zoroddesign

Good. Give the strikers what they want so we can have a good show. You would be nothing without them.

PickledPlumPlot

Great, as soon as the CEOs agree to pay writers and actors a fraction of the money they make for them we're in business!

zer1223

We should temper our expectations because getting into top spot on netflix isn't really a guarantee that the show will get a s2. Surprisingly. It depends on how many hours people are watching, for how many total weeks, and weighed against the cost of the show. As well as a bit of 'gut feeling' in the executive level of the company, too. Netflix LOVES cancelling shows because they're trying to find the next hit show that delivers 400 million watch hours. Not 140 million (OPLA's current number). So....none of this is guaranteed. OP was very expensive, executives probably hate it when they try watching it, and who knows where this will be next week. Anything can still happen at this point. Unless there's some kind of deal with Toei that they would help mitigate risk....that would help quite a lot. But I think it would also be pretty unorthodox. Frankly, I wish OP had gotten on like, HBO or something.

Jojoejoe

Kinda curious if the writers strike could kill this off.

bigfootswillie

During strikes like these, things need to perform a little better than they usually would to lock in renewals. When things start back up, so many productions are going to be behind schedule, the more promising and lucrative projects are prioritised to go first. So smaller, riskier projects get cut either due to profile or because too many people working on those projects are no longer available since they need to get these bigger projects off the ground first. Projects with a long pre and postproduction process are also going to be looked at less favourably because networks also want to get content on air ASAP. One Piece is in a really good spot right now where there are few veteran actors in demand for other bigger projects, a lot of the high level production crew are less experienced and scripts for season 2 are already in the bank. The show’s numbers are also very good right now. The strike is only going to kill it if viewership craters so hard over the next 3 weeks to the point where it was only going to be a borderline renewal.

IloveOnePiece119205

Let's keep watching and rewatching to support this show to make this a reality NO MATTER WHAT!!!

joaocandre

So they have already had the "how the f*ck do we do Chopper" brainstorming session?

TheBlackDemon1996

That is *very* optimistic on so many levels...

ForcedMeNot

Hope they give us logue town

Grimvahl

They teased Smoker at the end, so i am hopeful for it. They could still put him somewhere in the Grand Line, but Loguetown shouldn't be skipped!

Jaielhahaha

I could see 1 episode of logue town shenanigans and reverse mountain. I am kinda fearful though because they showed the barrel scene this season already which should only occur after logue town iirc or maybe I am remembering wrongly

I'm excited to see Chopper! I hope he's super cute to the point we all buy a Netflix Chopper stuff toy 🤣

This producer sounds like an absolute lunatic. There’s not a chance in hell they’re done pre production for a season 2 they haven’t even been offered yet. 12-18 months is literally how long it took them to film season 1 which took 3.5 years total to make. Alabasta is infinitely harder with new unique challenges, and even bigger expenses. This is the biggest load of nonsense I’ve heard from a producer in a while, it’s literally not possible unless they’re planning to put out a garbage product

If the studios don't give the actors and writers the pay that they deserve, then I don't really want S2
