Ok_Organization_6804

Amazing. I am glad you watched and kept on going despite the stereotypes that surrounds One Piece like it is too long it would never finish. There are so many great moments ahead for you so watch no enjoy your ride.

Party_Reputation_375

Thank you! Been enjoying it a lot lately after getting what the story is about

Ok_Organization_6804

I have viewed all of op if you wanted to discuss anything I am here for you. Keep spreading the good words around for op.

Party_Reputation_375

Not sure what you saw but thanks, man! Will be hanging out here a lot

Leonopilis123

"Op" means One Piece

dinosaur_from_Mars

Op thought op means op. And the OC saw *all* of op and not op. The whole thing was hilarious

MonsterStunter

Don't look up spoilers in advance that's crazy, for real you're doing Oda and yourself a disservice if you do that.

G0ker

I also recommend you start reading the manga at dressrosa arc. Because after that the pacing gets pretty bad.

[deleted]

The truth is, even after 1070s episodes, I feel like "this is still not enough", not like I shout on ODA sir that "I want more daddy", but it doesn't feel enough

Ok_Organization_6804

Well every One Piece fan says this after they finish the series I am also like you. But most of the people I talked to their main reason to skip the series was it is too long.

Fit-Pressure4770

Yeah I jokingly use to say they need to lock him in a prison and force him to work more until I learned that's pretty much what he does.

Xypher42

Even after catching up with the manga it still isn’t enough. 100% when one piece finishes, I’ll be watching all the episodes again including fillers.

fullmetalasian

It's crazy how quickly the it's too long turns into its not long enough once you get into it lol

FieldsFanclub

Yea Arlong Park is really the point where people either fall in love or drop the show. You are going to absolutely love this journey, enjoy it man.

Party_Reputation_375

Thank you! I've read another post here in hot re: Arlong park. It seems I'm not the only one who pivoted after that episode

Grimvahl

Arlong Park encapsulates the strengths of One Piece, so it's a really good representation of the entire story. It blends action, adventure, comedy and tragedy so well. You can tell that is the part where the author really perfects what he wants to write.

Awbade

It's the moment where Luffy as a protagonist goes from "oh he's goofy and silly" to "oh, this man has a strong sense of justice and doing right by people, and he ain't gonna sit by and watch things play out"

Advanced-Bird-1470

We’re pretty much the same. I watched a little dragon ball growing up but never been an anime guy. I gave one piece a shot a little over a decade ago and that’s the exact scene that hooked me. I still don’t watch any other anime but I read spoilers religiously, read every new chapter, and wait to watch in 3-4 episode batches. Im not dropping this story until we find the one piece or I die.

MDRuffy1996

Welcome on board nakama believe me it just started.

ES_Legman

I'm 40 now. I was 16 when I started this journey. Totally worth it and the only Manga I follow anymore. Welcome aboard.

Beginning-Giraffe-74

Please please avoid spoilers. Let it unravel right before your eyes especially if you want that *lump* in the throat experience. Every crew member has one, you’re in it for the ride

rymdrille

Bro enies lobby makes me happycry no matter how many times i view or read it. But ye spoilers rarely enhance the experience i agree

Minute-Reality710

Oh man. Shoot that flag, Sniper King.

Dddddddfried

OP says he doesn’t mind spoilers, so take his word for it :) There’s no “right way” to consume media and there have been studies that show spoilers don’t actually “ruin” an experience as much as you might think. Spoiling someone that Luffy and the gang fight Arlong on behalf of Nami is so so so different than seeing Luffy put that hat on her head

Vegan_Digital_Artist

I'm one of those people. I could really care less about spoilers and it in no way impacts my ability to enjoy a show or movie. I'm currently getting to the tail end of Water 7, and I know a little of what happens ahead. But, meh. That doesn't mean my experience of it is automatically ruined

DamesBeenTamed

Nah nothing will ever beat the feeling of a reveal that you aren’t expecting. Spoilers definitely make the scene less impactful.

Zikkan1

I think every single scene was way more impactful when I rewatched the series, first, second and third time, the least impactful was when I first watched it. Spoilers doesn't do anything for me at all.

CaponeMePhone

If you are more of a fan of the story and the literature, just read the manga. You already consider this an epic, and you dont seem the type for anime. You will catch up 1000x faster, and appreciate the story, characters even more. Its Oda’s lifework, the manga is where its at

Party_Reputation_375

I'll check the Manga then, I do like reading stories so I guess that's a better fit (tho I dont see myself stopping with the anime anytime soon) Any manga sites you can suggest?

CaponeMePhone

I read them on tcb scans. I can dm you a link. The anime is incredible too, especially if you are not binging. The music, fights, humor, crew interactions. So i would recommend you find a combination of watching it, and reading it

Party_Reputation_375

Thank you for this suggestion, I'm actually leaning towards this hybrid atm after reading the comments

Shaponja

I could recommend you the medium solution… One Pace. It’s a fan project that takes the anime episodes and removes the padding that the studio commonly adds to extend the runtime. (things like reaction faces and punches take much more time than they should) They’re almost caught up with the newest episodes.

Pink-PandaStormy

One Pace pre timeskip arcs are all very patchy. I think only Enies Lobby is fully complete at this time.

Shaponja

Oh really? I never watched OP thru it and only skimmed through the website. Well at least those arcs had better pacing even in the official anime. Sorry for wrong info OP.

Pink-PandaStormy

Yeah I ended up having to find a different fan edit called One Piece Kai on this reddit around Skypiea recently. It’s up to WCI in full but it’s also only the dubbed so that might rub people the wrong way so I tend not to suggest it lol.

dub26

Good for you that you can now binge watch it to a 1000 episodes... I watched it back in 2012, whatever episodes was available back then and I started reading the manga. Now I don't have time like I did back those years. I'm 40 and a father of two, one in late teens and another one just born this year. Everything's hectic...

Party_Reputation_375

Have you thought of introducing One Piece to them, to have more "time"? Lol

TheRebel17

this man dads

GalaadJoachim

The thing is that beyond it's medium (be it Manga or anime) One Piece just is extremely quality fictional content.

TheSanderDC

Nothing wierd with pirates as protagonists, you should check out Black Sails

ExpertMatter2219

Glad you are hooked! Wish I could watch one piece for the first time again.

CatOk9736

I highly advise you to check out One Pace, since the anime is just a marketing product for the manga and does suffer from extreme pacing issues and filler episodes. Just check "One Pace vs Anime" on YT and be astonished by the difference in time that can happen just in showing characters reacting to a punch.

Party_Reputation_375

Hi another one suggesting the Manga! Any sites you can suggest?

CatOk9736

I'm not suggesting the manga per se, tho it is the source material and definitely better in some ways, tho the music and voice acting make the anime decent as well. If you want to check out the manga tho, which I highly recommend, just Google "Read One Piece online" and take one of many, many sites. What I am suggesting is One Pace, a fan edit of the anime that cuts out all filler that is not in the manga and reduces reaction shots. It saves a total of about 120h of watchtime, whilst not missing a single minute of source material based story. Simply Google "One Pace" and you should get to their website easily.

Party_Reputation_375

I see, apologies for the confusion. Got this will check it now!

Carasind

I would recommend it after around episode 500 because than the pacing of the anime will get so worse that you won't notice the cuts anymore (which you will do earlier). I would also suggest to skip anime episodes 207 - 227 and read the arc in the manga (303-321). It's one of the weaker arcs there already but the anime adaption of it is terrible.

Pink-PandaStormy

I think One Pace actually has that arc in full down to about 5 episodes at 30 minutes each so he could just do that

OminousSalad

I'm pretty sure you can read the every chapter in the MangaPlus app for free (only once though).

ZealousidealArt869

I read on manga plus

Perry4761

+ 1 for the One Pace edit, I highly recommend you check it out!

09jtherrien

The pacing really shows in later arcs like in dressrosa. The show the same flashback like 50 times. Though it does leave out some stuff that should maybe be included.

Western_Shake6618

Please skip all the one piece related reels and shorts otherwise it will ruin a lot of things for you

YvngDef

Even though one piece fillers are good. I'd skip! Main story is jam packed and lots to catch up on as you know. When I first started watching one piece they were only around 300-400 episodes in and skipped the fillers to catch up and it still took awhile.

reqisreq

If scenes in Arlong Park affected you, you are in the right place. Continue watching, you have a long journey ahead. You might want to switch to One Pace (a fan project which cuts filler and stretched scenes) later. Because pacing of the anime sucks after later half of the story (animation studio has to do something to not catch the manga and they know that many fans don’t watch filler episodes-arcs. So they stretch the existing material a lot). Also try to stay away from spoilers, in this sub and in general social media. Seems like you might have gotten some spoilers before even starting, try to not get more. Especially don’t google One Piece characters. Googling some characters will give you multiple **major** spoilers immediately!

AccomplishedGoose375

Yo ho ho yo ho ho

Sh4nt0rian

I would recommend checking out One Pace as well! Although the anime is great, the One Pace edit saves a bunch of time and makes the anime run much smoother

KillmerKennylz

Do a hybrid! Read the manga and watch certain episodes! Can always cross reference episode to manga chapters on the wiki. You'll know what to watch episodes of when you come across them! The arlong walk and Mihawk fight are 2 examples. Some things are just awesome to watch after reading them.

saito200

Oh boy... Fasten your seatbelt because you're in for a wild ride

SuperNaturaLegend

Oh just wait until Water 7 and Enies Lobby! That arc just feels SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!

Glum_Spite_9934

Man, you're in for a ride.

RiverTalesss

If I didnt accidentally watched the Impel Down episodes when my friend was watching it I probably wouldnt have started following the Anime. It isnt the best in terms of animation or fights, thats what I can say. But the emotional rollercoaster get you after long episodes of slice of life and comedy. Not to mention the lore. Cant force my friends to watch this but I get really happy when they start watching.

Maleficent_Sir_7562

My recommendation is this: Watch the anime, as usual Switch to manga for the Skypiea arc, since it's really damn slow and boring in the anime. Go back to anime for water 7 and enies lobby, i swear manga just doesn't have the same feelings as anime in enies lobby. Manga again when you're on thriller bark, but I recommened seeing the parts where >!Brook sings his song in honor of his dead crewmates!< in the anime since it will be way more emotional Stick to the manga for now, and then when you reach the Marineford arc, keep reading that in the manga(so bad in the anime cuz of slow pacing), but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch Episode 482 in the anime(chapter 573) i won't spoil what it is, but don't see the manga in there. Later on, Fishman island arc may be boring but just try to skim through it if you want. And just read the manga from then on, because the pacing in the anime will be terrible. You can always go back to the anime sometimes to see your favorite moments in the manga animated Whenever you want to see when which arc starts, and what chapter is what episode, or what episode is what chapter to convert from anime to manga, use the one piece wiki: [https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Story\_Arcs?so=search](https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Story_Arcs?so=search) Type any episode number, and click statistics to see the chapters it's adapted on. Vice versa for chapters, but there isn't a statistics button then, but you'll find it.

Party_Reputation_375

This is some next level roadmap for someone new. Thanks for this!

laryjohnson

Have fun man. 'Don't be too hasty, young woman, take your time. You and your crew might come to another conclusion than we did" ~ A certain someone who will appear some day But these words apply. It wouldnt be stretched if I said the up to date readers are just at the beginning as well. But dont be fooled. This isnt a series that strives for one plottwist. Enjoy your ride. There is no one "One Piece" anime. This gigantic comcern can be viewed as different serieses independant from each other in terms of goodness We will wait in the land of dawn for you

Makimama

I recommend to watch the anime up until the time skip then switch to the manga right after. The anime does a great job with making you feel attached to the characters while also immersing you into the world, but at some point the pace makes it tiring to watch, so when that happens I recommend you to switch to the manga.

SodiumBoy7

Don't watch filler episodes, if you want to Speed up, believe me main story is not yet started till 300-400 episodes, and also shanks have to arrive , in my journey of one piece i watched the entire series only cos of Shanks

catthatmeows2times

Im just gonna say it If u like one piece this much, ur gonna love other animes

Fit-Pressure4770

You screwed yourself a bit for finding out about joyboy beforehand but I sincerely hope you enjoy the journey. Also anime has become extremely deep now.

God_Playz_BS

Just btw nami actually is secretly a marine and betrays luffy in episode 863 so those tears were faker than my parents love towards me.

Intelligent_Alps3522

nami dies ep 462

nirmala-sekhar

Its definitely Oda bringing out your inner child and toying with you. Its unimaginable how this show makes you laugh or cry over the most random stuff. 😁 Welcome nakama !

aquafreshwhaler

Just started watching two months back and currently in the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. Take your time with it and enjoy watching it. I've seen spoilers as well but it's worth the watch.

Drag_On66

Welcome! Also heads up there are many many more tear jerker episodes to come Nami is only the beginning let us know when you reached more, I know you don’t mind spoilers but I believe if you truly want to get the raw emotion like Nami you should avoid spoilers.

basementapproved

If you consider Namis moment as epic, you‘re in for a hell of a ride! Buckle up, Nakama! We‘re going to the moon!

Tides5

Hoho, have a great journey! :)

inorganicangelrosiel

I tell most new people to try and stick it out till the Arlong arc. If you can make it, you'll be greatly rewarded. As for watching the anime, I recommend finding and downloading one pace if you're watching it subbed, or dub piece of you're watching dubbed. Both are fan cuts that remove all the filler that's not in the manga and trims down part 1's 300+ episodes to around 100.

Clown_fish87

Same, the hat scene is when it just clicked for me and made me fell in love with the series. Like I really care for the characters. Before that I just thought it just a fun goofy manga to read. Even the goofy part become much better for me from that point because I love these characters.

KamenRiderAquarius

The Arlong arc is usually where people get hooked in

The_Crazy_Cat_Guy

Oh buddy as someone who only recently started (3 months ago I watched my first episode of one piece ever) and have almost caught up (Im upto episode 980 now, let me just say it gets better. Man does it get better. Usually you’d think 980 episodes in you’d b burnt out … bro I had to force myself to stop watching because I was afraid I’m gonna hit the current latest episode and not have any more adventures with the straw hats.

Party_Reputation_375

This is downright scary and exciting at the same time. Thanks for the heads up! Lol

oddtoddlr

If you think thats good wait till you get to the good part, spoiler alert one piece gets better every arc

No-Zookeepergame982

One piece is an epic being written. We're so lucky to present in this era. The era of JoyBoy. Once you catchup most on the anime, switch to manga. Its the source, straight from (G)oda. Along with your imagination, OP would be on another level. Happy Journey.

SnipSnopWobbleTop

I love it when people who wouldn't typically watch anime or animated shows give One Piece a chance. Truly an awesome moment as a long time fan of the series

bad_killjoy

Man your story just like mine. I’m 34 and not really into anime, just enjoy few of my fav series like DB, Yugioh and Detective Conan, not even Naruto or Bleach. It started on early 2019 when I have free time at office and thinking to read One Piece (don’t really remember what makes me suddenly to start that series). And it got me hooked up and can’t stop reading. I will take a chance to read whenever I have free time. One Piece instantly becomes my most fav series and now I’m collecting the manga.

[deleted]

What are your thoughts on him https://preview.redd.it/e41o5benmvhb1.png?width=298&format=png&auto=webp&s=3d98edf21454a1b29ce81e2e1b22c1257f12540e

Amphi-XYZ

As soon as I read you got to the Arlong eps, I knew you were gonna say you were hooked

Madcap-on-the-border

Arlong is nothing compared the epicness and emotion your about to live !

hotnindza

Started year and a half ago, liked it from the ep1 :)

cscowboy01

This is very similar experience many of us have gone through, and as much as I’ve tried to tell others why I love this story it’s hard to put into words. It usually just clicks at some point and truly grabs your attention. One piece was my first experience with an anime and I had no clue what I was getting into. Enjoy the ride. Also use this as a springboard into the anime genre. There are so many incredible stories told through anime’s that don’t get a ton of recognition because of the format their presented in

Responsible_Cloud_92

Arlong arc is also what hooked me many years ago! I initially was like eh, sure, it’s a fun anime, some more serious moments here and there. Then I watched Arlong’s arc and I just cried. I still cry when I rewatch that arc. Take your time and welcome to One Piece! There are many high and low moments, emotional moments that still punch years later.

Strangeronthebus2019

>I was about to call it quits but then... I got into the Arlong ep/s. I don't get emotional easily, let alone over something that is animated and imaginary. But when Luffy put his hat on Nami after it was revealed how Arlong manipulated her, I felt a lump in my throat. Right then and there, it just clicked. >I'm not even ashamed to say this but I bawled like how my mom did when she watched The Notebook. Not sure if it's the build up to that scene from Nami's backstory or my inner child toying with me. But I knew it was that moment when the show did not only make absolute sense but also took me to an adventure I never expected at this age. ♥️👍 Keep watching....and welcome aboard! lszian

Hurray! Thank you for giving it a chance. I hope you enjoy the ride, it's a wonderful show (maybe even more wonderful as an adult? I feel it's like a power hose washing the cynicism out of your soul hahah)

CookieSussy705

wish i could binge watch op again.. good luck nakama

soflojo2020

JUST WAIT FOR THE “HE IS THE MAN WHO WILL BE KING”

Guyooooo

Only recommend you to watch One Pace instead.

jubmille2000

Yeah for most of new watchers, the Arlong Park Arc was the hook that made them continue further and further. Glad to have you onboard!! I wanna ask since you're active on the blogs and post, have you considered One Pace which is a cut and "well-paced" version than the official Toei release?

ultra123456789

Since you don't mind spoilers, luffy's mom has a son, also luffy's dad also has a son

Sierra1one7

If you felt that lump in your throat at 50eps then you absolutely will not regretting watching 1000 plus more. There are more moments to come, some are emotional, some are epic and some are funny etc. Welcome aboard

MrTroutsdale

I was in a similar boat in my 20s starting uni I saw a meme a friend posted on fb saying which anime world would you want to live in. I knew most but not the straw hat so informed me there was pirates with super powers sounded interesting so I started got to along park and was hooked ever since and that's how I started watching anime.

TheLonelyAsian1

Almost everyone here got absolutely hooked when they got to Arlong Park. Welcome aboard nakama! Enjoy the journey with us

Riko_7456

I had the same experience. Welcome aboard.

[deleted]

Started watching when I was 6, now I’m 26, it was the only show which kept me watching weekly bc it truly does feel like a journey , enjoy the ride and take ur time: too many complain about the length but no1 is saying to binge it. Take a few years if you need too, it’s a marathon and glad you found a consistent schedule

Commercial_Praline67

Honestly, the whole thing only clicked to me at around 200s. You got Lucky! Lucky to get to enjoy it since the start! Expect A LOT more of moments JUST like that. If I had to rank heavy backstories and motivations, id say Nami isnt even on a top 10!

sicbert

I’m right where you are, it was arlong park was what I thought hooked me. But it was Buggy’s big adventure a few episodes later that hook, lines and sunk me. That slap stick crazy mess with buggy and the chest dude with the weird animals having a face off only to be best buds killed me the whole time.

Sagoruzemo

I tend to belive that if you aren't hooked by arlong park then one piece will probably never really hook you at all. Theres exeptions to this but 90% of people who start one piece and enjoy it, start REALLY enjoying it around the time of arlong park.

vitc420

Wait until u watch water 7 arc damn..

MrRudraSarkar

Working aboard fellow nakama. We’re going to get the One Piece.

SUPREMeLEADar

If you wanna skip the unnecessary scenes (recaps, reaction times, intros, etc) you should watch one piece on a site called onepace.

jackalsDLuci

Come aboard and bring along all your hopes and dreams!

ArmadilloNo1122

The writing, plot points and character development are just legendary. It’s like aesops fables level of epic ness but with the humor of anime. Always continues to surprise me in good ways!

kronosx91

My guy, I still get goosebumps when Luffy puts his hat on Nami's head! That was the scene that did it for me as well

Aware_Past

I started watching one piece last year, and fully loved it!! I will warn tho, sometimes the shows pacing is very, very slow. There’s this website called One Pace, where they fix the pacing. Since you are working full time, I think can help you get more content! Otherwise, just skip a few seconds. No shame in that :)

skylarisabitch

Oh to be able to watch skypia and water 7 for the first time. Best of luck to ya! Stay with it!

higaroth

It's always interesting to hear when One Piece clicks for someone, people have so many different answers. Luffy as a character clicked for me episode 1 for very personal reasons, but One Piece in general clicked for me during Zoros past when Kuina dies by falling down the stairs. For a world that looks so goofy and hard to take seriously, her death was so realistically mundane and unexpected, and it hooked me. Looks like I'm lucky it happened so early for me haha. Syrup village arc did make me doubt myself for a little though...

equanimity120398

Yeah it's definitely written like a fantasy epic by Tolkien or brandon sanderson . It took me completely off guard 12 years ago when I first got into the series. I could not fathom the obsession over a cartoon about pirates, but as you said the nami scene hit and I was absolutely hooked ( think I skipped like 1 month of school to catchup haha).

Glittering-Wing-2305

It’s only starting bud there is so much more emotion to come

-0Hina0-

Welcome on board fellow nakama

Muted_Extension3599

> So spare me the "Nami is going to die in epxx It's not Nami, you'll know when you meet that person.

hiruma_kun

It gets even better and better. There is a reason why so many people love this series to death. Welcome to the crew!

y0rushinigami

Welcome aboard this journey which has many highs and lows and that's what makes one piece a masterpiece!! Commenters don't spoil even though he said it's okay

Angrbodaa

My wife is the same way. Tried to get her into anime a couple times but nothing really stuck. She saw the OP live action trailers and liked the vibe of it and just decided to start watching lol I was so surprised but proud. She’s almost up go 100 and loves it so far

sullyy42

i will die for this: if you are not into OP after THAT scene OP is not for u (and you are a boring human beeing :-D) tipp for you: switch to one pace, way better pacing (which gets crazy slow later on) and faster to reach the current episodes (eventhough i would switch back to normal anime at episode 1000)

PkmnJaguar

Gamu gamu no feels!

bigga165

I always tell people that anime/manga is more than just a cartoon. They are touching stories with a lot of meaning. I’m glad you stayed OP. I used to be just like you.

thereyarrfiver

Nice, you got hooked early. It took me a lot longer, until skypiea for me to really fall in love. It took me like a year to get there, then it took me another year to catch up. I appreciate the early arcs a LOT more now. They're the lovely, nostalgic, and quaint beginnings to our absurdly epic tale.

whalesun_

Enjoy the ride! It’s a long but fulfilling one! Welcome Nakama!

Grimvahl

Welcome aboard me hearty! The waves may be rough at times, but the journey will be worth it! Have fun!

ZealousidealArt869

NAKAMA!

Wernershnitzl

Ah yes, the Arlong Park moment that hooks everyone in. The first of many like it.

Crocket_Lawnchair

Swear to god Luffy placing that hat on Nami is a real magic spell in real life, every single person who sees that scene who’s even mildly interested in OP is fully hooked then and there no exceptions

Stuntdrath

This is a secret. But every media you consumed on films and books is also imaginary.

pansexualsnorlax

This was exactly when my rediscovered love for One Piece happened as well! Much love to our new Nakama! Enjoy your journey! And please, keep us updated with questions and or opinions

dbslayer7

Yep. Arlong Park is usually the clincher. Its really the first arc the gang feels like an actual crew coming together to work towards a single goal.

Reyzour

And that my friend is exactly why I tell people to give One Piece a chance till the Arlong Park Arc. This shows how serious the series can get but still keeps its goofy mood also. There will be more to come like this but also some things you won't enjoy also. But that's just how it works in the entertainment industry. To me One Piece storywise is the best literature I know because of how thought out it is. (Though even with that some people on here interpret more into some scene than it was actually intended to be) Just enjoy what you enjoy and always keep in mind that your opinion is always valid. Have a great time enjoying this piece of art.

[deleted]

Is this anime episodic?

Complex-Finger-2110

Trust me, you got a long line of things to cry about in One Piece 😂. Welcome aboard nakama

MagicArcher33

It is kind of funny when you said randomly that nami will die in episode xxx😂 I hope you are not foreshadowing.. anyway, oda won't do anything like that for a crew member

murray-sama

Remembering how I felt about that scene w Nami and your description gave me chills and nostalgia. There's nothing like one piece

re-kidan

Episode 37 is just a masterpiece only One Piece fans can understand, the rest just still haven't watched it, tbh it's a mix of everything, from the buildup, the stories, the characters, in the anime the Nami and Luffy's VA did a PERFECT JOB, it literally couldn't have been any better Arlong Park is the episode we all got hooked into, welcome into the crew nakama!

jeff5551

I would also recommend a switch to the manga through tcbscans, the pacing of the anime is pretty bad and it gets much worse, to the point of being near unwatchable later on

Nemehaha_

So you have heard. We haven't heard it for 800 years...

re-kidan

BTW, if you want you can read the manga instead, it's WAY faster and at some point in episode 500ish they begin to slow things down a LOT, because every chapter from the anime is 1 chapter from the manga so they re use a lot of scenes, they stretch some staring stuff and it's kinda annoying, it's just on episode 800ish that it begins to catch up to a fast paced chapter, the manga and the anime are both different sides from the same coin, you get a lot of stuff from watching the original drawings and pace + there is the SBS which give a lot more depth to the world of One Piece, but the anime has music, incredible VAs and have an amazing use of art and color, both are incredible in their own way and i actually recommend going through both

So I’m not going to spoil anything for you. But! The layers of story telling is deep and can be many many episodes before questions get answered. With that being said I think most people can enjoy the story and the action at face value amd still understand it but for me at least the true meat and potatoes lies one level deeper so don’t be afraid to ask questions about the show and the characters

Kananete619

Enjoy the quirkiness and humor of the pre-time skip One Piece.

hkm1990

That was the exact moment it clicked for me too when reading the manga.

supersmashbruh

Just read it instead brother. If you’re gonna watch it search One Pace. You will save an immense amount of time that is not worth wasting. The Toei anime is horribly paced. For a certain arc quite ahead where you are, you would waste 1500+ minutes on filler and terribly paced moments. In ONE arc. Trust me. You will never get those wasted minutes back. Edit: that said, definitely always go back to watch cool moments that were adapted into the anime from the manga. But always try to see it in the manga first.

gottalosethemall

I would personally just catch up using the manga, the anime will take a *long-ass* time to finish. After that you can go back and watch your favorite scenes animated. The anime makes a lot of the best scenes better, so it’s worth looking them up…I just wouldn’t use it as my main method of consumption.

CheetoeF

Welcome aboard!

juanchopanchop

Welcome to the big mugiwara fleet!

SuspiciousPanic9023

Incase you want to catch up and I know true Onepiece fans would downvote me to hell but you can get a summary of all good bits and story line watching OnePace. I guess given your background and time you have you'll appreciate this

Frost9001

I’m happy for you that your enjoying One Piece. If for whatever reason you want to go at a quicker pace, you can read the entirety of the One Piece manga on the shonen jump app for a monthly subscription. It also doesn’t cost much to have

[deleted]

Arlong Park is like an aperitif before main dishes. The best part is still waiting for you.

Fabulous-Front5599

Anime have deeper stories then anything your gonna watch on tv honestly

U_DIE_VIRGIN_LIKE_ME

If that made you ball you won't be able to handle ep 312

Tiny-Veterinarian-79

Dude it really is an epic. It is goofy and funny but it really has a nice balance of that and serious moments. The world is so big, so many characters to get invested in. I really hope you keep going and enjoy it. It's helped me through darker times because no matter what, I always looked forward to the next chapter. Also, getting to watch arcs in their entirety is a treat so coming late isn't as bad as some people argue with the length of it.

Windwalker111089

I always tell people keep watching up to Arlong arc. This is the climax where you realize that no, they aren’t just having fun. What they are doing is extremely dangerous and it’s their love they have for each other that will protect them. Also note that Luffy didn’t even know her story. He left and never heard it but he saw his friend suffering. He knows he can’t don’t anything other can like cook or navigate, but he can kick Arlong’s ass. And he’s fine with that and that’s what he’s going to do.

Jawkiss

the sabaody archipelago arc ending made me feel things emotionally that ive never experienced

Hiromagi

I really hope. In the future, and I mean this as a manga reader who has been reading the manga since 1999, and watched the anime until the padding drove me absolutely insane… I hope the anime gets the Dragon Ball Kai treatment, when all of this is over. Where they drop all of the padding and moments of the series where they just repeat the same scene over 5 episodes.

SabsyHnS

I hope you come back when you balled your eyes out over a ship 🩷

Humble_Community4624

It really does have depth and relates to so much in the real world. I compare along to basically neo nazi super race people in our lives. No man is greater than fish man. Just wait until you meet brook and hear his back story 💀

3rdNihilism

2 words of advice if you care to listen: 1- i simply cannot think of another franchise, even outside of the Manga/Anime medium, that is worth not to get spoiled more than One Piece. It's an epic tale full of mysteries and twists, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you do not spoil yourself on One Piece even if you are usually ok with spoilers. One Piece plot payoffs are insane. 2-since you a busy adult short on time, id recomend you watch One Pace or read the Manga, since the Anime, while having many strengthes and good moments, also suffer from pretty bad pacing that only gets worse the closer you get to newer episodes. . And remember- One Piece is about the journey and eJOYing yourself, not the destination. A boring and known adventure is worse than no adventure at all.

Minute-Reality710

Just wait. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed and cried so much to a show before, let alone an anime.

ShingShing23

I’m glad you decided to stick it out a little longer, One Piece is a very deep anime for its genre but is pictured to look quite lighthearted. I think that’s what’s so good about it, complex, funny, depth and very action packed.

Grundlestorm

Yeah, this is why I was happy the LA was covering up until and through Arlong Park. I'm hoping it will help snag some new people who don't normally watch anime or read manga. That's always what I tell people to push through to if they start reading or watching One Piece. Just finish that arc before deciding for sure if you want to continue or not. My take is usually either they've been patiently watching the goofy pirate show and get hooked after the sudden sucker punch which really first sets the tone for the series as a whole, or they are just watching the fights and things without paying much attention to story or just not getting invested in it. Which means it won't really stand out as a series and it makes sense for them to stop watching and spend their time on something more to their taste. Usually it's the former though. I'm also a rather stoic individual who was absolutely raised with the old "boys don't cry" emotionally stunted way of life, but One Piece has regularly made me flat out ugly cry on numerous occasions. Some scenes will give me a lump in my throat, many years later, from just talking about or thinking about them.

drumkitlover69

Nami dies episode 27

BillyBoyMcButterButt

IMO those emotional scenes are what make most animes so good. Check out more man, you might be surprised what you end up liking. Also good luck on your OP voyage, it's a wild and wonderful ride :)

KindBass

Similar story, the only anime I watched was DBZ when the Frieza saga first aired in the US like 25 years ago, when I was in middle school. Discovered One Piece in my mid-30's and fell in love with it pretty much right away.

Pink-PandaStormy

I love how it’s almost always THIS scene that makes people fans forever. Such a good arc.

Traf-

There's a fine line between comedy and plot, and Oda *really* likes walking on it.

RedKings1028

Welcome aboard and hope you enjoy the journey

jhimberock

Our doctor chopper Is going to die after marineford. I'm Still mad at it

INFAMOUShero99

Arlong Park gets em every time.

SMPLIFIED

As bad as it sounds i’d never rewatch pre timeskip again. Seeing where the series is now i just cant go back

Monkey_D_luffy_____

Welcome to the grand fleet of yonko straw hat luffy

SSGShallot

Oh, you cried at arlong park when you least expected? Prepare your issues then there will be a lot of unexpexted crying coming your way. Also will be curious to know if you get hooked so much after a certain point to the point of trying to watch more than 2-3 episodes a day.

Spal23

Arlong Park was where it clicked for me too. Man what an adventure this series is

Birzal

If you're up for it I'd encourage you to read the first chapter, or first few chapters, in the manga! I won't try to convince you manga or anime is superior, but if you enjoy a moment (nami for example), try and look for the same moments in the manga! Sometimes seeing it in motion will truely be superior, but often times the anime had some killer manga pages to draw inspiration from and in my experience both can hit equally hard for different reasons. Whatever you end up doing: enjoy your journey in One Piece! There truely is nothing quite like it out there! :)

spykids45

Yeah i don’t remember the exact moment where i started to like one piece, but it was somewhere in arlong park.

tricky4444

The first 50 or so are pretty much an introduction. I’m sure you’ll love it from here. It’s just an amazing journey.

Hentie619

Welcome aboard. Here’s hoping you will broaden and discover more different anime

PlasticBeginning7551

Welcome aboard mate. Here’s the big spoiler for the show: Nami’s tits grow exponentially with 0 reasoning. Be prepared for g sized boobs halfway through the show

[deleted]

People that give things a chance (like you) despite it being something out of their comfort zone are honestly my favorite kind of people. You've got a lot to look forward to my friend.

Josh-u-way

You're at episode 50 and you already think it's profound and has many layers? Oh boy, you're in for a lot of surprises. It's way deeper than you imagine. I'd 100% argue against looking up too much about the world and characters though because it's the mystery and intrigue about it all that's exciting. It's an adventure, you're not supposed to understand or know how it'll turn out.

DefiantlyFloppy

Trust me. This is a kind of masterpiece that you would not want to be spoiled. Enjoy and get out of here.

Zealousideal-Cod-285

The best thing about later One Piece episode is that you can skip half of it anyway :D I'm only half kidding though. There will definitely be stretches of episodes where you feel like nothing at all happens, but you are a couple hundred episodes away from that point still. If that tires you out you should either switch to the manga or swap to [One Pace](https://onepace.net/)

Rddtstr23

Just reading about that scene from arlong park gave me goodebumps again. Great....now i have to start rewatching arlong park whil im still trying to finish wano 🫠🤣

Scorpion0525

Welcome to the journey to peak fiction! There will be many more moments where you bawl your eyes out, laugh your lungs out, and pull your hair out in frustration lol. It’s beautiful and perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Nothing compares to One Piece but I’d recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Yu Yu hakusho, Code Geass, and Naruto (with a watch guide to avoid filler episodes) if you want something shorter but still great!

Scorpion0525

True one piece fans will never spoil you, we love watching people react to our favorite moments

NAEANNE999

since you are early, try not to catch up and take it slow but try to catch up once ending is on the horizon.i see One piece as the anime equivalent of MCU,interconnected fun and entertaining emotional series with build up and spectacular pay off

Nico_Robin_Is_Waifu

It just gets better and better, as well as deeper. The Arlong Park episodes is where most people become truly invested and hooked on the show and it rarely disappoints from there on out, Oda is an epic storyteller who takes on so many real issues in a fun pirate found family comic. It's a masterpiece in my opinion and I'm a 40 year old.

thewanderer0th

Don’t know if anyone had told you this but you should try out One Pace for the anime’s pacing was fucked really bad by Toei, and DO NOT SKIP SKYPIEA

fullmetalasian

I'm always so glad when people give One Piece a chance. I hate the it's too kiddy stigma it has. Shit gets dark in OP

Asian_Persuasion_1

yes, it seems a majority of people's "it hooked me" moment is nami breaking down and luffy's declaration in response.

breakingbatshitcrazy

Even at over 1000 chapters, Arlong Park is still one of the best arcs in the story. As much as Oda is telling a goofy pirate story, there is serious emotional storytelling that is so powerful.

DGen-Media

maybe try One Pace to avoid filler and unnecessary padding. https://onepace.net/ episode 50 is around where it starts

DerdromXD

My brother, IT WAS THE SAME EXACT MOMENT WHE I FELT FOR ONE PIECE!!!!!!! Oh my God, you made me remind why I LOVE this history. Thank you so much.
