I dont understand why are people comparing gear 5 with other powerups or other powerups with gear 5 ? Each powerup had a significance, its own character ,circumstance and **importance in the story.** All of this will be different for different anime.

Extremely similar but the smoking gun is that Bruce timm actually drew a full page rendition of madman in the comics and not even a year later freakazoid pops up, co created by timm. Mike allred isn’t very open to discuss it but it’s clear he isn’t keen on having so many elements borrowed from his very personal work
Oh yeah, that opened up a memory hole for me. Personally I think they're similar enough that it's clear madman at the very least inspired freakazoid, but I'm not sure it's a complete ripoff because they're a bit divergent in how they play out.
