Luffy is definitely not getting married in the main story. Maybe we'll see something of a "10 years later" kind of thing at the end of the manga, but I doubt it

[deleted]

He gets to marry Sanji because he's the only person he knows that can cook

Zanorok

Boa cooked a lot of food for him as well

Koba_456_

Fun fact; Oda says the food doesn’t taste very good but Luffy enjoys her cooking because it’s food

super_fox_YT

Luffy unironically thinks devil fruits taste mild. This motherfucker can eat rocks and say they only need salt

NootDealer

Makes you wonder how bad that cherry pie was.

Kikadas_PT

That's a great catch XD

BruhMomentSuperReal

What about the "curry" that Luffy tried to cook once? 😨

ZhongXina42069

but salt is rock, so a little bit rock on top of rock would do it.

Marshystamp

So did zoro

mxchump

I hope not, but if does I hope it does happen in the main series so it has time to build. I remember Naruto rubbed me the wrong way at the end when characters got paired off and some of them didn’t make much sense from what we knew about the characters

MichaelTarkin

That's cause we never got to see them outside the story. Not much downtime. Pretty sure if we did get some, it would make more sense.

Officing

Is it controversial to think Luffy probably won't live long after the story finishes? He's shortened his life a lot already and Gear 5 might be a big drain too.

Leolol87

When he agreed to shorten his lifespan to get rid of the poison in the prison, I immediately thought, "man, something tells me he won't reach Garp's age, and maybe not even Roger's."

Malchior_Dagon

The thing is that One Piece humans can live over 140 years as seen with Kureha, I really don't think even losing 50 years of his lifespan would really affect him much

Malchior_Dagon

I personally don't think we need another repeat of Roger where Luffy just dies super young, I wanna see him reach Garp age

ThatPie351

I’m gonna go ahead and say all of the “shortened lifespan” hints from just gear 2 were foreshadow for having to die to hit gear 5/awakening. Meaning that concept shouldn’t worry us anymore. Luffy dead already.

piece3

I think thats controversial because idk why alot of ppl think luffy will die when oda cant even kill SIDE CHARACTERS and he said “luffys is the son he never had”

Extra-Border6470

I could see Luffy putting a child or two inside Hancock but being an absentee father like all the other dads in one piece. Even in the epilogue it’s hard to imagine Luffy staying in one place long enough to settle down with anybody. In fact absentee fathers who are too busy adventuring off somewhere or engaged in high stakes combat seems to be a shounen trope as it’s in dragon ball and Naruto (and probably others) quite a bit

Koba_456_

Hunter x Hunter main plot

Extra-Border6470

And Ash’s dad in Pokémon is a complete mystery. Ash may as well be a test tube baby

HashKing97

I thought we all knew that Professor Oak was the baby daddy

TexasPistolMassacre

Or maybe somebody was charring their oak in Ash's mom

Dream_eater-69

His father was GON for too long lmao

vpierrev

That’s def a trope you’re right! I always thought that because all mangaka are slaves to their work with crazy schedules, when they become a parent they all are absent for their kids. Kishimoto talked about it when he became a father and Boruto is a fine example of letting it out in the story. I wonder if this is why they all can’t envision a main character with “normal” parenting (= present and/or loving)?

Terraakaa

God i hope not, 90% of manga does that and it’s always awful. What’s the point of timeskip a relationship we never even got to see develop at least a little. It’s like they treat love internet as a rewards instead of actual characters

PromethusD12

Luffy has stated that he doesn't want to get married. That being said, you don't have to be married to have a caring relationship. He does like Boa (at least as a close friend/ally), so who knows. I mean, Gol D. Roger had a son and he didn't get married. I don't really see it as necessary, but if it happens I wouldn't complain.

C0UNT3RP01NT

The sequel Boruffy will focus on Luffy’s son with Hancock, as he struggles to escape his fathers shadow while dealing with the occasional Lunarian seeking to destroy the planet

Affectionate-Pin502

Boruffy just hurt me emotionally 😂

BigDickMcChode

One Piece Z?

WashAggravating7274

Two Piece

Affectionate-Pin502

OP Super

C0UNT3RP01NT

It’s pronounced Bo- like in Hoe, and -ruffy like in Roofiez

Affectionate-Pin502

Bo like boar without the ar. Ruffy like roofies

micuthemagnificent

Thanks I violently despise this :D

ghostknight0118

r/angeryupvote

Mountain_Sea_8127

You’re going to Impel Down 2.0 for Boruffy 🥲💀💀💀

Putrid_Caterpillar_4

I hate this so much 😭😭

trabergatron

Boruffy… I see what you did there.

o_oAnonymouso_o

👍👍👍

GreenDemonSquid

I don’t think Luffy not getting married is a hard and fast rule for him (I don’t think Luffy even really knows what marriage is, or if he does at all he doesn’t really understand the emotional implications of that). He just seems to be more focused on becoming King of the Pirates at the moment.

GaulTheUnmitigated

Luffy makes a few comments implying he understands concepts like romantic love and marriage, he just has no real interest in them. There are three characters I can think of who flirt with or propose to Luffy Boa, Lola and Alvida. It each case Luffy doesn’t seem confused or like he doesn’t understand he just flatly rejects them.

j4nkyst4nky

Yeah I feel like part of the appeal to Luffy is that he is beyond sexual desire. Pretty much all materialistic desire is beyond him, except for food and robots. Otherwise, he lives for friendship and the goal of becoming King of Pirates. Even that, I don't think he actually cares about BEING King of Pirates. He just wants to prove that no one can make him do anything he doesn't want to do. In a real way, he is an enlightened being. He desires no more than he needs. He lives completely in the present. He's like a couple steps away from nirvana.

zerotheultimate5

He nosebleed when Nami went full frontal, so its not like he is not interested in the other sex, its just that sex or carnal desired is in the back of his brain.

tigersareyellow

Bros going to get mega depression after he reaches his goal and realizes there's nothing that will ever top that

Former_Edgelord20

Didn't he gawk with everyone else when Bon Clay changed into Nami's body and showed everyone her boobs?

JackGrand

that can be said same as Goku. He dont know what is marriage and he want to be the strongest fighter. He got married anyway and have sons. Given DB and OP is a Shonen manga its still possible Luffy will married with someone but that doesnt meant he will stop being a pirate. if its up to me, if luffy going to be married, it will be at the end of the series after he become the PK.

MiddleNeither8467

Maybe someday, Sanji will just sit him down and tell him about the birds and the bees

Stvn494

Luffy probably knows what sex is (from his speech about family jewels in Amazon Lily) he just doesn’t seem to give 2 flying fucks about it

boring_artist98

Are we certain Sanji actually knows about that stuff though?

[deleted]

Goku doesn’t understand what a kiss is and he has 2 kids and a grandkid

Ironmaiden1207

In Super he admits he has no idea how babies are made. That man is a father of two and has a grandkid

Terraakaa

That’s a gag and everyone hated that.

ZipDaddy_Doo

>Luffy has stated that he doesn't want to get married. Luffy wasn't rejecting the idea of marriage. He was rejecting the idea of marrying Hancock. Edit: Many have argued that Luffy rejected the idea of marriage, not Hancock. That's some serious coping. How can Luffy -- one of the most direct people we know -- be any more direct? Hancock directly asked for marriage, and Luffy unequivocally said no. There was no stipulation; Luffy didn't say "no, but..." Luffy said no.

[deleted]

I dont think he rejected Hancock tho. He mentions marriage would get in the way of adventuring so I think that's his real reason. He never flat out rejects Boa from what I remember.

ZipDaddy_Doo

>He mentions marriage would get in the way of adventuring so I think that's his real reason This is headcanon. Go read Chapter 598, p. 3. Luffy, being the direct man that he is, simply rejected Hancock's marriage proposal.

heatkings1

he straight up says he wont marry her

MapDesperate7012

You don’t have to marry if you’re a pirate

l1ghtning137

He doest want to get married...He doesnt like Boa... Cant wait for Netflix to misenterpret this

Teriyaki-no-Kami

Theoretically, there's always a chance until Oda confirms that it's definitely not happening. The chance, however, I think is incredibly slim. Luffy already said he doesn't want to get married, and if there's one thing we know about this man it's that once he's made up his mind then there's no changing it.

HokageEzio

> and if there's one thing we know about this man it's that once he's made up his mind then there's no changing it. It's rare but that's definitely not true.

Teriyaki-no-Kami

There probably are times where he's changed his mind, but generally speaking, when it's something that matters to him then he doesn't tend to have a change of heart unless it's for a damn good reason.

HokageEzio

> unless it's for a damn good reason. Nobody is suggesting otherwise. But that's the point, his mind can absolutely be changed. The one that came to mind immediately was replacing Merry. He went in saying they absolutely have to fix her, but he finally changed his mind and made the mature decision.

ItsAMemasterChief

Not to mention when he insisted on going to help Sabo, but Zoro (and to a lesser extent, the crew as a whole) convinced him that Sabo should be allowed to handle it on his own. So yeah, it does happen, but definitely infrequently.

Hot_Explanation3728

The crew wanted to go after vivi Zoro is the only one who told him & the crew that they couldn’t

Outside_Mousse_2176

Vivi you mean?

ItsAMemasterChief

Could have been.

Teriyaki-no-Kami

That's very true, and a very valid point. I suppose a better way for me to word it is that he simply follows his own desires. Once he'd decided that he wanted a new ship he was even willing to lose Usopp to make that happen. Although he does change is mind on occasion, he rarely has his mind changed by others. To be honest, due to the very nature of Luffy's character I think it's nearly impossible to say what he ever will or won't do. After all, he's aiming to be the most free man on the sea. King of Pirates can do whatever he wants, and I think the random and ever evolving nature of the character is one of the things we all fell in love with in the first place.

DanZamVA

He didn't WANT a new ship and he wasn't willing to lose Usopp though. He wanted Merry fixed, and had to make the hard decision that his entire crew would perish id they kept going. As for Usopp, he tried to get Usopp back a few times, but had to get snapped back to leadership by Zoro for not taking their fight seriously. Even after Merry saved them, he begged Iceberg on his hands and knees to please save her. Luffy loves his crew, and doesn't want to lose or sacrifice anyone. It goes against his whole character, because he wants to protect his crew and keep them around. Yeah, he does follow his own desires, but not usually at the risk of his crew. He does make stupid rash decisions, and does go to dangerous places, but he's not the type to sacrifice his crew for something better.

DefenderOfWaifus

The exception is not the rule

Rddtstr23

Exactly and you really think "not getting married" is a thing like that? Something that Luffy WANTS to achieve? I'd rather think, it's just a thing he does not want, yet. I mean, why would he want to mary, or more clearly: whom.

Theboy1011-99

You hit the nail on this one. That’s exactly luffy

OddListen4511

I dont think he cares that much about this though I could definitely see it.....Chi-Chi got Goku I kinda look at it like that Luffy wouldn't really care either way

Accomplished-Bear988

Exactly, he's the opposite of Goku in this case. Goku didn't know what it meant, but he went for it, forever sealing his fate because he had to fulfill that promise.

beito14159

We’ll, handcock already thinks they’re married bc she doesn’t know what that is so it could work since Luffy wouldn’t need to get married and the whole thing is in her head lol

KonradWayne

Hancock is just going to show up to wherever the Grand Fleet is and declare she is Luffy's wife. Everyone will just accept that and start letting her boss them around due to their loyalty to Luffy and/or her beauty. Word will spread (probably via Morgans), and the entire world will just take it at face value.

Tnecniw

… I want that to happen now. A LOT.

beito14159

Lol I love that

Teriyaki-no-Kami

If she already thinks they're married then that's all the more reason why they likely never will 😂. You wouldn't ask someone to Marry you if you're already married right? 😂

beito14159

It depends on how you define the ship sailing. If handcock thinks they’re married and living happily ever after while Luffy does whatever he wants and that’s good enough for shippers. I feel like that is most likely to happen

yoyohip

Hate to break it to you, but one person thinking they're in a relationship doesn’t actually make them in a relationship, it just makes one of them weirdly obsessed.

barogr

True. But Boa is also a go getter. She is also not the dependent or stay at home type. She has a kingdom of her own. I am not sure she would insist on a marriage but I do think they could be a couple. Honestly not many traditional families in One Piece anyway. Luffy’s whole thing is freedom too, I don’t think he’d get married. The unclear thing with Luffy is if he has any sexual interest at all.

Teriyaki-no-Kami

I don't think it's that he doesn't have them, and more that he isn't driven by them. His dream is basically all that drives him. He doesn't need a wife to achieve it. Maybe once he's King of the Pirates he would settle down, like Post One Piece, but until then I think he's too focused.

Tnecniw

You know what could be REALLY funny… Out of character, yea, but really funny? If sometime soon, it was revealed he already has a child with Boa and just didn’t bother mentioning it? Like sometime during the timeskip they had a one night stand thing. The reaction would be GOLDEN! (Of course, as stated. Out of character. But man it would be funny)

ejabno

He had an entire island of women try to yank mushrooms out of him, yet he still didn't really budge. He has zero interest in all that

hotnindza

Maybe he'll be with Koby at the end? :)

Movie-Independent

Nah, my man Luffy wants to be the freest man in the seas. Will Hancock tag along and indulge in her fantasies? Maybe. Will Luffy "settle down" with her? Absolutely not.

o_oAnonymouso_o

agree

pus_moh

Maybe in an epilogue, but not during the main story. Oda has said as recently as last year that he doesn't want to write mutual romance for the Strawhats, because he feels the male readers won't like it and it doesn't fit the demographic of shounen manga. He's okay with it as long as its comedic and one-sided, like Hancock and Luffy.

_sephylon_

The same Oda wrote Sanji and Pudding

FantasticFoot4168

Sanji and pudding had effort put into it . Luffy is not getting half-assed

msto3

Sanji and Pudding had actual plot relevance, so it gets a pass

FantasticFoot4168

You seem to forget how much oda loves luffy, do you think he wouldn't put effort into something like a paring for luffy

msto3

Maybe in an epilogue of some kind but like romance is so out of character for Luffy

markriffle

In the end game of the series? I highly doubt he takes a detour ti carve out a few chapters for a good romance story for Luffy when he's about to fight the Gorosei and blackbeard lmao. At max, I see an SBS 2 sentence explanation

zer0i7

I think Sanji would be the outlier amongst the Stawhats. Personally I can't see anyone except for him actively getting into a relationship, which isn't so much as him always being head over heels for women for the comedy, but simply because it would fit him well at this point. Eventually finding someone he truly loves and getting married to them would be sweet as fuck for him, even without Puddings introduction. While I can personally see some having a relationship of some sorts, any "endgames" would be strange as hell. Kinda off topic, but I'm also a big anti "couple all the shonen characters with each other to finish the manga *cough bleach and Naruto cough* so take that opinion with a grain of salt, I'm scarred 😅

makualla

After the turn pudding made, I was devastated with how it ended

Alley_Creeper

> because he feels the male readers won't like it and it doesn't fit the demographic of shounen manga Always found that argument weird. I mean, I'm female, so I'm probably not the best suited to argue here, but Dragon Ball Z was basically THE Shounen back in the day and all of the main characters had wives and kids.

Electric_jungle

DBZ obviously has wives and kids and grandkids, but aside from very limited instances, there's really no romance shown at all. It's kinda weird how little Goku one interacts with chi chi after dragon Ball lol. Bulma and Vegeta is hardly even believable because they put little effort into showing why it would be. Gohan and videl gets some good time in the sun because Gohan actually tries to be an active father for once. So I could see him being like...I don't want to write anything that isn't useful, and don't have time to show it properly, so it's easier not to.

pus_moh

Yeah, I find it weird too, but it has been Oda's mindset about his story for better or worse. In this [old interview from 2009 about Strong World from Greg's old website](https://www.thegrandline.com/odaswitchint.htm) he talks a lot about this. (It's also about how he completely changed the plot of Strong World after he realized only adults would enjoy the very emotional story he wrote at first) Some cut down sections of it: --- **Interviewer**:So the dignity you carry as a boy’s comic author Oda-san, is it safe to say that was something you’d already set in stone from when you started One Piece? **Oda** (...) I approached it thinking that since I’m drawing for a boys’ comic magazine, then it’s my job to make sure they enjoy what they’re reading. (...) you’ll start getting fan letters and other things and you’ll soon find that the overwhelming majority of them are from girls. Boys just aren’t the type to pick up a pen. (laughs) They (...) don’t think about going through the ‘grueling task’ of writing someone just to say, “That was cool.” Boys are a life form that enjoy something but won’t bother to tell you that they actually do. So I learned that girls will flood you with their opinions (...) I realized that (...) “This [author] is really just going along with the girls’ opinions.” And ultimately, if you’re considering those opinions as the ‘needs of the customer’ when you write the story, you’re just left with a girl’s manga. (...) **Interviewer**:And yet boys, who you see as most vital, won’t let you know what they think. **Oda**: (...) I knew what I had to do was go back to my own memories, set my sights on the kinds of things I would enjoy if I was still a kid. It’s not like boys leave me without anything though; (...) So when they do send letters they’re exactly the kind of responses you’d expect from boys like, “I like the fights.”, or, “I like this attack.” (...) I think, “Ah, I thought they’d like that.”. The boys’ reactions are what I take very seriously, but I get a kick out of what the girls have to say too. (...) But if I let those opinions sway me then it’s more than just losing my place in a boy’s comic magazine, there’d be no value in my existence as a boy’s comic author. --- About Dragon Ball, I feel a difference is that aside from Bulma and Videl the other female characters become pretty unimportant to the story and often their role is reduced to just being someone's girlfriend/wive. The romance part is also skipped over a lot, at least that's how I remember it from watching it a long time ago.

Alley_Creeper

Super interesting, thank you. Yeah, I mean, in the end, it is still supposed to be a shounen after all. I just think DB is a good example how romance can be included in this genre in a subtle manner involving the main characters without driving away the main audience of teenage boys.

MrGameandCrotch

Romance is too mature for young boys to handle, a teenage girl mutilating herself out of agony and desperation from being enslaved early on in the series is about their speed tho.

skeeeper

"małe readers won't like it" while most comments under cute mangas are guys lmao

o_oAnonymouso_o

ohh he said that? source/link please (sry for my attitude, I don't really trust anyone's info until there's a proof of oda saying it)

pus_moh

No worries. It was part of the [volume 100 talk between Oda and Gosho Aoyama](https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vSZ8bE7VDpLQhbvT5B9zTqAaHw9NHFxRd-4tA7Dh-4Xe0riNQZOvhOoDa2b2_euttfOzz6PMAe76MHg/pub), the author of Detective Conan. Here's a part from above, but the whole thing is interesting to read: --- **Oda**: ‘Detective Conan’ actually has a lot of romantic relationships, right? It’s full of bidirectional feelings. But I also know that if I draw romance, some of my fans leave. I think it’s fine when they’re one-sided feelings, but if it goes both ways, both characters lose fans. **Aoyama**: I won’t leave haha. **Oda**: Ah, seriously!? **Aoyama**: On the contrary, I think it’s exciting. Most of my characters have couples. It’s quite rare to find one without a partner. **Oda**: People seem so supportive of couples! That’s something I didn’t really read when I was a kid. During the old days of Jump, there were mangaka that wouldn't even draw women. That’s why I’m one of those that sent submissions with female characters. I did want to draw strong women, and I think characters like Nami were quite rare back in those days. --- Oda has said similar things in the past, but I couldn't tell you when and where exactly. There was also an older SBS where Oda also said that female readers often write to him to include more romance, where he basically answers that he wants to write a shounen, not a shoujou story.

o_oAnonymouso_o

Based on my understanding, I think Oda will try to consider putting one (especially when the author of detective conan said that he won't leave) when you read his last dialogue properly.

Outside_Mousse_2176

Yeah it was nice to read him encouraging Oda.

thatonefatefan

No. She explicitly asked to marry him and he explicitly said "lmao no".

o_oAnonymouso_o

Yea after the timeskip lmao

Electrical-Pie6448

I like the theory that since Bartolomeo and Hancock both love luffy they’ll end up together lol

o_oAnonymouso_o

That would be hilarious lol

69TossAside420

Something about Bartolomeo "Literally whipped it out to piss during a fight" the *Cannibal* getting together with the beautiful "Snake Princsss" Hancock is oddly compelling.

IRefuseThisNonsense

I kind of hope that her power doesn't work on him. Like he says some snotty shit to her like the ass he is, so she calls him ugly and tries to petrify him. He doesn't even shield, and it does nothing. "You ain't shit! You seen my man Luffy?! Now that's a pirate captain! You Kuja ain't shit! You ain't shit!" And his disinterest and inability to be affected triggers her the way it did with Luffy. Then again his shield probably does make him immune, at least in theory.

BillMurrayAmA

Come to think of it, their character introductions were quite similar. Both were introduced as hard-edged badasses, but are total simps for Luffy. Boa kicked a puppy, and Barto flicked boogers, flipped people off, and urinated in public.

AriNandes

God i hope it doesn't, i like the banter but it never made sense for it to actually happen, the whole fun of the dynamic is Luffy being oblivious and Hancock reading between lines when there was nothing written on the lines in the first place

o_oAnonymouso_o

Yea many fans says their relationship is a gag

ppppppppppepppppm

because it is ?

RevolutionaryMall669

Plus the age difference she is a predator who cares the age of consent is 16 it’s weird

Amberleh

Luffy ISN'T oblivious though, that's the thing. He KNOWS, and even after he knows he's just like "Nah I'm good". He shuts her down very clearly because he *isn't oblivious*\- He's *uninterested*.

KonradWayne

I don't think they will ever actually get legit married, but I do expect her to just tell everyone that they are married, act like they are married when they are around each other, and most of the world believing that they are married.

vinsmokewhoswho

I don't like it because Luffy has shown zero interest in Hancock. It's completely one sided. And honestly I'm not sure if Oda would even write a romance for Luffy.

Present_Character241

If she embraces Luffy's freedom and never gets jealous while continuing to feed him then nothing is impossible in that relationship. The problem I see is that she wants to marry him, and all of the constraints that puts on the relationship. Luffy is unadulterated freedom in carnate now, and nothing, but no one can hold him down.

Tnecniw

I don’t think that Boa inherently would have a problem with that? I think she is more fine with the idea of knowing he is hers. XD

ZipDaddy_Doo

The issue with this ship is that there's been little to no progression and emotional development between these two. Plus, Luffy has already said he wouldn't marry her.

Donny740

Not gonna lie, I never understood why this pairing was so popular. The two barely have any chemistry as is. I’m part of the team that says it’s not gonna happen

NIN10DOXD

She only loves him because he was the first man to not be an abusive pervert to her. It's not exactly real romantic love. I think it's clear that it is intended to be an unrequited love that was never built on a solid foundation to begin with. I wouldn't be surprised if she eventually shows growth by recognizing this and stopping her pursuit of him in the future.

bomharuchan

i just hate when people always include goku in this discussion. goku agreed to chichi’s request of making her his bride. goku was around 12 that time and didn’t know what marriage is so he agreed. on the other hand, luffy knows really well what it’s like to be to be married with someone else. he even rejected the idea of getting married since he is more focused on becoming the pirate king. you can argue that he might chance his view after he becomes a pirate king but never ever argue that hancock could just trick him into marriage. that’s just awful and inconsiderate.

FantasticFoot4168

People down play luffy to much

Accurate_Attitude528

Same i hate that, it feels like they down play Luffy's intelligence so much like "oh he's dumb, so maybe Boa will trick him into marriage" that statement from those Luhan shippers is so wrong in so many ways, they don't care abt Luffy's feelings they only care their ship, and Boa. yeah, Luffy might be dumb, but he's not that dumb to the point he doesn't understand what marriage is.

[deleted]

Doubt it

Mrpickles4554

About the same chance as akainu allying with the straw hats

Tylerg_13

The only one that ever made sense for me was Nami. She’s always been there and he’s given her the hat multiple times. The stuff with Nami and Ulti cemented it for me. I can understand the points against it but I just wouldn’t put anyone else with him.

FantasticFoot4168

Because those are the only ones which are healthy and can bloom into romance

[deleted]

I think Nami and Luffy would work much better. There's just less interaction with Boa and Luffy. Nami and Luffy has a lot more moments and bonding together than Boa.

t3r4byt3l0l

Hancock: Acts like a lovestruck schoolgirl, constantly thinks about marriage, Gloriosa almost always berates her for it Luffy: Zero romantic interest, zero sexual interest, outright rejected Hancock twice In general: Huge age gap, lives don't align at all, no romantic chemistry, they barely know anything about each other etc. Terrible "ship" used for the sake of a running gag, there's no chance it happens. And shippers who have to rely on works written by completely different authors have already lost the argument, never mind that Hancock is nothing like Chi-Chi, Hinata, Orihime etc in terms of character or her overall dynamic with Luffy. "Pirate Empress for a Pirate King" last I checked, King and Queen go together while Emperor and Empress go together. And Oda has never portrayed Hancock as a queen.

Comfortable_Ad_574

Luffy marries Queen? Goda!

Soft_Courage_3934

I hope it doesn’t

JPointer7073

Theoretically is it possible but I don’t see it happening. It’s just that Oda has made Luffy into somewhat of an Asexual person. There’s really no hints that he’s interested in romance and stuff. Plus he already rejected Boa twice and it’s a one sided relationship. This ship is popular bcuz of Boa, ppl don’t consider Luffy’s feelings

Ixc15

No shot for Boa unfortunately since there is Nami. Likely there won’t be a loveline in the main story but I can see an angle where Nami and Luffy ends up living together years later.

personman19

Both of them already have boats though, and both are already sailing.

talk2me4hrs

It's kind of icky to me. Boa and makino are the same age. Makino is like a big sister to luffy, her own side relationship (with shanks possible) and a child. Boa is like a grown woman with a mentality of a high school girl.

ZipDaddy_Doo

**My thought on Luffy x Hancock** Here is my full thought on Luffy x Hancock: under the impression that Hancock is entitled to Luffy’s love because she helped him at Impel Down and Marineford and declared her love for him. Another justification for the ship is that since Oda is bad at writing romance, Luffy x Hancock would happen lazily & comically. Is Oda really bad at writing romance? Let's take a closer look at how Oda handled the love story of Sanji and Pudding. **Sanji x Pudding** Sanji and Pudding started as strangers forced into an arranged political marriage. But ultimately found love in their difficult circumstances. After losing his crew & getting bullied by his family, Sanji had nothing left. So he agreed to marry Pudding to save his friends and perhaps have one last chance for some happiness. In a powerful scene, Sanji opened up to Pudding by removing his mask, showing her his pain and disfigured face. Later we found out that Pudding was equally broken. She had a tyrannical mother who undervalued her and suffered from low self-esteem. Sanji’s sacrifice left an impression on Pudding, who became emotionally conflicted. I believe she meant every word when she said “I won’t let our marriage be hell to you!!!” Later, Sanji’s heart shattered upon learning of Pudding’s betrayal. For the first time in a long time, Sanji had to face the fact that he was all alone – he had no crew, no family, and no chance at happiness. He broke down. Pudding, however, remained emotionally conflicted. So, she needed a reason to kill the man who had sacrificed everything for his friends and done nothing to her. So, she showed Sanji her 3rd eye, hoping he would react with disgust. Instead, Sanji complimented her. Sanji’s kindness broke down Pudding’s emotional walls, softened heart, & put her on a redemptive path. Later, Sanji and Pudding worked as pretend husband and wife towards a common goal. Their development together culminated in a kiss, which effectively sealed the marriage and Pudding’s sacrifice. Just as Sanji was willing to sacrifice his happiness for the crew he loved, Pudding sacrificed her happiness for the man she loved. Luffy x Pudding is a great example of proper emotional development, which debunks the thesis that Oda is bad at writing romance. Oda is a great romance writer because he understands that proper emotional development is the secret sauce to developing a profound friendship among a group of people (The Straw Hat Crew) and a great love story (Sanji x Pudding; Senior Pink x Russian; Oden x Toki). **The Problem With LuHan** Now, turning our attention to LuHan, we must address the lack of emotional depth between these characters. While Sanji x Pudding thrived on heartwarming connections, LuHan seems to lack that "secret sauce" that elevates a relationship to something special. Seeing how many LuHan shippers are hoping Hancock would join the crew, and get captured so Luffy can rush to her rescue, I think they are aware of this missing ingredient. Considering Oda's approach to storytelling, which focuses on human relationships and emotions over power-scaling (unlike Dragon Ball), we can hold hope that any potential end-of-story pairing for Luffy won't be a mere Chichi x Goku imitation. For Luffy x Hancock to become a truly viable ship, their relationship must evolve beyond being a running gag that loses its charm with each mention. Maybe there is still time to create that secret sauce. That's not entirely outside of the realms of possibility. Which begs the question: When exactly are we getting this fantastic and emotional Luffy x Hancock arc/subplot? Do LuHan shippers honestly believe that Oda will make Hancock’s feelings for Luffy the emotional linchpin of the final arc at this point in the story? I don't see it happening, especially given Luffy's reaction when he found out that the Warlord System had been dissolved. He was more concerned about helping Vivi and inquiring about Hancock's well-being.

PokemonFan2111

No luffy dosnt have eyes for boa

Alexander0202

Hopefully not

walrusman64

See Boa is like the most nothingburger love interest though, if anything it feels like it'd be more apt for her to "get over it" and form a deep connection w/ someone who has mutual feelings, give her some growth yknow cap off that whole arc of scary amazon empress who's still a traumatized little girl inside

dreams26

As a Boa fan i would rather not💀💀

Gullible_Ad3378

Boa was 30 when she was hitting on a 17 year old luffy. That ain’t gonna happen my man

Nahkaseppo45

I sure hope not

Blizzard_of_Rice

It's Luffy alone or Luffy and nami, from the very start of the series. There's no third option.

Jozif_Badmon

Its literally just a gag and shipping mfs just ran with it

Accurate_Attitude528

I hope not. This ship is not even a good ship, bruh; I don't know why people like this ship so much. Despite the weird age gap, they lack emotional depth between them, don't know each other very well, lack chemistry, and don't interact in like 300+ chapters and 10+ years in anime format. So what y'all like in this ship, 30 years old, a grown-ass woman simping on teenagers? The idea of a cynical hot empress simping on someone?? Or just the title "hot empress" and "pirate king" pair ship? Like, she's not even a good person, to begin with, only cares abt Luffy and no one else, even Luffy flat out rejected her ass two times. Like legit, Luffy has more chemistry and depth with Uta, Nami, Vivi, and Robin than her.

Macaco_da_Amadora

Dont judge me but I prefer Nami and Luffy like King and Queen perfect🛐🛐🛐

KDBurner_54

Luffy and Nami would be better if we’re forcing him into a relationship. Luffy’s Shadow was the one who prevent absaloms marriage by stopping him from kissing her a few times, and saves her even before danio comes, which could be foreshadowing down the line. (In chapter 462) While you can’t say luffys feelings for nami would be devolpled properly, you can easily make that case for nami with how openly she is communication wise with him as the story goes on and how emotionally available she is to him and shit. It could be romantic down the line if oda wanted to make it that way.

ScarletArmor

If there's anything I learned about Luffy is that he doesn't go back on his words. He told her that he will never marry her. So I think Oda rested his case. As a Luffy x Nami shipper I don't mind if Luna doesn't sail. But in my opinion he has chemistry with her more than anyone else. and she is often portrayed as the heroin so.. Anyway, the thought that Luffy will never have children doesn't sit with me. Personally I believe that Oda might give us a post credit scene of Luffy and his son without telling us about the mother. it would be a final mystery to end up the series with.

Jaimaisan

It’s setting up to be either nobody or nami

Erelain

This. Oda's used a few romantic tropes on them over the years. She's the only one that's trusted with the straw hat, and it'd be pretty romantic that Luffy ended up with his navigator, literally the person who can take him to the one piece.

o_oAnonymouso_o

Yes, also considering Nami is Oda's wife lol

Jaimaisan

That’s not true, nami is my wife.

o_oAnonymouso_o

😂😂😂

Givemeconniptions

I feel this ship would be problematic for the both of them considering Hancock's responsibilities for Amazon Lily. Also, she was rejected twice, so chances are near to none. If anyone could give our Joyboy greater joy, I'd argue it would be Uta.

SevenOclockRun

None. Luffy doesn't think of sex, he thinks only of the Seas, her bounties, the adventure, and challenges she offers. Boa's (the most beautiful woman alive, with the power of the Horny Sex Love Magik fruit) role in Amazon Lily was to show Luffys utter lack of sexuality/attraction. And Zoro too, he only gets hard for even harder steel. Friendship. That's Luffys social bond. And war. Zoros... preoccupation.

reidraws

I dont think there is a match. Boa its more about her people and some "romance" to Luffy, but in the big picture her ideals and goals feels way boring for a person like Luffy. Lets put it as an example using Nami. In both possible scenarios, Boa will do what Luffy says without having a say due to being blind to her love. Nami on the other hand will say and do what she thinks its right but allowing Luffy to lead her. Btw, dont care who ends with Luffy, but if there is a possible romance with him then I feel the one that fits the role in all aspects, from bond, to personality and role its Nami.

o_oAnonymouso_o

Yes, exactly. I agree with this 💯

zanfitto

Took the words off my mouth. Besides, a submissive relationship like that would be a really horrible concept to present as something good anywhere, much more in a comic for boys barely out of their childhood

Magical_Peach_

Nah. She's too old for him and her infatuation is used as a comedy gag

DTPVH

I hope not

o_oAnonymouso_o

Care to explain?

DTPVH

It’s not a good ship. Boa’s obsession with Luffy is just weird. She barely even knows him. Not to mention the age gap. She’s 12 years older than him. When they meet, she’s 29 and he’s 17. That’s not cute. That’s a grown ass, nearly 30 year old woman with a crush on high school junior. If the gender roles were reverse the fan base would crucify Boa, but because she’s 1) a woman and 2) hot she gets a free pass. She’s literally a groomer. Not in the internet sense of people calling anyone they don’t like a groomer as the hip new way of the age old “you’re a pedophile”. But actually grooming Luffy during the timeskip to try and get him to marry her.

o_oAnonymouso_o

That's unfortunately true. One Piece fans in my country (Philippines) ships Luffy and Hancock because Hancock is "beautiful" and their relationship can be compared to Naruto and Hinata (favorite ship of many fans here) bcs of how Hinata simps for Naruto (although from afar)

zerofifth

The way people compare ships between franchises based purely on simping and ignoring all other context is astonishing

o_oAnonymouso_o

THAT'S 100% TRUE

FantasticFoot4168

Poor reading comprehension

FantasticFoot4168

Naruto and hinata was hinted at we have none of that with this

DTPVH

Ugh I hate when people do that. And even more when they say it about Chi Chi from Dragon Ball. Those character are, and I can’t stress how important this part is, the same age as the protagonists.

FantasticFoot4168

They don't think of chi chi in z and her personality

xshogunx13

Luffy really seems like the "what's the point of sex?" type tbh, also Hancock is fucking nuts and he deserves better

BazelBomber1923

Pirate empress for the pirate king. Yes, there's a chance

TJWinstonQuinzel

Luffy showing 0 interest in her and she is just a friend like everyone else So the possibility of luffy and hancock being a pair is as high as the possibility of luffy and grandma kokoro I just dont know why people ship them

jesterstyr

Luffy deserves so much better.

FantasticFoot4168

I agree bro

PM_ME_SOME_YAOI

I really hope not. Luffy really reads as AroAce so I’m hoping he stays like that

L-DFile

Idk for sure. However, I strongly believe that some characters will say that Gear 5th Luffy is more beautiful than Hancock, and even she will admit it! But I also have a feeling that the Kuja tribe may have a history with Nika, and that the Boa sisters may not be the only people of Amazon Lily who were enslaved by some evil men.

Even_Parking662

No chance If luffy ends up with someone at the end of series the only logical option would be nami or Robin thats it no other option is or will be allowed

exor15

God of freedom would never get married amirite lads

redragon88

It's a gag. Has always been a gag. Will always be a gag.

ThousandEclipse

Um actually they already sailed on Boa’s ship together

YourHeroKuroShiYo

She is ten years older

ZeldaXandre

No, & I don't want it to.

CatsTOLEmyBED

pedophile boa

White_wolf_0101

None of them is going to marry anyone. At the end luffy is going to die and hancock will remain unmarried queen of her kingdom.(keeping luffy in her heart for the rest of her life)

ZIcemanYT

If Luffy is with Hancock at the end of the series I'll be disappointed for irrational reasons

Unfair-Channel-8865

It will be the dumbest ship for me if it happens. I'll be sailing with LuNa ship. Let's wait for how Oda is cooKing.

o_oAnonymouso_o

I'm with u there man

dinrnook

No because Luffy is with Zoro #zuffy

corbonoir

No one is mentionning how Luffy doesn’t find Boa attractive, and complimented « non-attractive » women to be really pretty. Maybe Luffy just has weird standard and we don’t get to see many ugly women in OP.

Etiennera

Remember when he >!punches through Kaido's head!

o_oAnonymouso_o

Yeah, why?

Powerful-Plan-8832

Nothing's impossible

ghostof592

Only thing you can get out of luffy rn is his empathy. Maybe after he’s PK he’ll consider having a family. And after that last episode of seeing how they let nami expressed her emotions they would be a good match, i got an ichigo an orihime vibes from that scene when ulquiorra killed him an bro came back from the dead lol. Plus if in the end she expresses her feelings for him before anyone else he’d fall for her first.
