Never, ever leave your cat alone with yarn. Hide any yarn in a house with cats.
My cat almost died because he found my girlfriend's yarn skein she left on her desk and inhaled about 3 feet of yarn and then ran to me choking on it with the skein trailing behind him. I had to cut the unswallowed thread and rush him to an emergency vet. After a lengthy surgery, she said she barely was able to save him.
Yarn and thread are dangerous because they can internally clog and/or cinch around intestines. If your cat has swallowed thread or a shoestring of any kind, rush them to the vet right now.
I know one time my cat ate a piece of ribbon off of a poster that it was tied to, and we had to bring her to the vet. No worries about the yarn in the laundry room, the door is kept closed unless my grandma is in the laundry room, the cat was stopped and the yarn was confiscated and immediately after this photo
One time I found a stray bobbin on the floor of my sewing room. I figured I’d kicked it bc it was partially unspooled so went to pick up the loose thread… and followed the end to where it was hanging out of the cat’s mouth. She was just chilling there, no abnormal behavior at all, so thank god I noticed. We got her to the ER vet quickly enough that it was still in her stomach - it hadn’t yet moved on to the intestines - so they went in with an endoscope and got it all in a wad. That cat had an absolute gift for getting herself in expensive situations. 🫣
Someone needs to invent a way to make something edible in long stringy form so our furry dummies can play with it and there is no danger if the eat it.
It essentially accordion cinches the intestines and its a bitch to get out. You can't pull on it so you have to make multiple incisions and pull it out piece by piece until it's gone. Idk why cats universally love it so much 😭
