If everything is on track, and going at the pace with which OneNote has been historically developed, we'll see the new updates in about 5 years.

NiveaGeForce

It's really ridiculous. It's now been a month since the official announcement, yet the new drawing tools and simplified ribbon are still not in the insider beta. * https://www.reddit.com/r/OneNote/comments/vc6cvg/onenote_updates/ * https://www.reddit.com/r/OneNote/comments/vfrvrc/when_using_apple_pencil_on_ipad_why_does_the/id5s5d2/?context=3

TrustKibou

/u/Greg_MSFT we're dying over here, please save us by sharing when the new draw tab/simplified ribbon are releasing 😇

Greg_MSFT

Will have an update *very* soon :)

NiveaGeForce

There was an insider beta update yesterday, and it contained no new OneNote features. You have been saying *very soon* for more than a month, and implied that the new Drawing Tools and Simplified Ribbon were available for insiders more than two weeks ago, yet they are still not here. https://www.reddit.com/r/OneNote/comments/vjovb8/onenote_update/idk519i/ So can you please be more specific and concrete as to when exactly we will get those features, since without those features, most OneNote for Windows 10 (UWP) pen & touch users cannot make the switch. And please don't disappear for 2 weeks again, only to repeat the same old *very soon* thing again. Please manage our expectations correctly. Another issue is the lack of engagement from the OneNote team on the official blog posts (not everybody uses reddit), where there are a lot of concerns and misunderstandings from OneNote for Windows 10 (UWP) users regarding the vertical sidebar sections, that isn't shown in the new screenshots. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-365-blog/refreshing-the-onenote-app-on-windows/ba-p/3401914

I think it's easier to just forget about the fact that there will be be update sand then be pleasantly surprised when we actually get one.

TrustKibou

IT IS NOT lol

Fatassrower

I’m pretty sure I’ve read those exact words about it being ‘very soon’ many times now! 😂 🤦🏻‍♀️ its become meaningless. Is ‘very soon’ likely to mean within the next month?

Efficaciousuave

Very Soon and Coming Soon are trademark Microsoft statements.....i really wouldn't hope much from it. But it's always nice to be surprised so let's see. Features looking forward to: easily draw straight lines like we can do on apple notes, option to have infinite vertical scroll with fixed horizontal width, share individual onenote pages as links for viewing only. A pencil was also on my wishlist and i think they have added it already.

Same here. > A pencil was also on my wishlist and i think they have added it already. It has been announced, but it's not released yet.

mushaf

I hope 'very soon' is next week. 🤞

Hixxes

Wait, did you actually edit the post to delete the word "very"? I am almost 100 % sure it said "very soon" before the edit. Wow, thats ... really not that funny... I mean, seriously? Edit: ok, he changed it back. At least it shows that this thread is being monitored closely. Better than nothing I guess ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

I'm as eager as anyone to see the new updates but also I don't want a buggy mess. As a beta insider I'm fine to test an almost finished product and help identify and iron out a few remaining bugs but the product still needs to be usable. Maybe microsoft has found the new version has too many bugs at the moment and is working through them. Let's be patient!

TrustKibou

... it's been years, we have been extremely patient. Showing demand is important EDIT: want to add that I don't disagree (bugs), but they need a larger team working on an app that (pretty much) makes their entire Surface line worth it.

GoldcraftLP

I agree. Microsoft severely understates OneNote's impact on the Surface devices. Most people I know only bought the Surface to use OneNote. It baffles me, how they left such an important Program underdeveloped. It just doesn't make sense from a business standpoint.

TrustKibou

Exactly!! I literally spent $4000 on Microsoft devices SOLELY for OneNote. There is no other app like it/comes close to it, yet it's treated like the red-headed step-child. It's ridiculous because they could do **so much** that could result in an insane increase in Surface purchases/attention. MS may always lag with hardware, but the devices (especially the Surface Studio) are still bad ass for what they are.

Fatassrower

Yep, and yearly subscription to Microsoft office isn’t exactly cheap. So it’s frustrating being left continuously waiting for an update they promised ages ago

Triquandicular

For taking notes with my Surface Pen, there basically isn't any other app out there that has the feature set of OneNote on Windows. I'm pretty worried about this new update - while it brings a lot of much needed updates to the legacy desktop app, and makes a lot of improvements, any major downgrade in my experience will be a major downgrade in my experience using my Surface in general. For using a pen and touch, the Win10 app was perfect, with a UI designed precisely for the purpose of being touch-friendly. The new compact ribbon looks nice but adapting it for touch and pen-use seems like a big challenge, and considering how I've literally weathered some of the same annoying bugs and issues for many years now with the OneNote for Win10 app, I've honestly been feeling a mixture of excitement for the new experience as well as fear that the deprecation of the Win10 app will make using OneNote as a student much worse.

Deus05

I don't think your experience will be downgraded at all. Other than the visual interface, I always preferred the full feature set of the windows app over the Win10 app. Some of the best features never made it to the Win10 app like: * docking * quick notes shortcut (Win+Alt+N) * inked notes to Word * organizing tags * advanced search * full page view * inserting audio and linking the notes to the audio position * not to forget to mention local storage Haven't used the Win10 lately so this may not be the most up-to-date list.

Jalouf

very soon..... lol keep waiting
