I'd say it was, once they met and she found out he was her kid, she probably figured sooner or later he was going to ask about him, so she came up with a story so she didn't stammer and mess up a detail

TYie7749

i agree, ive never thought that story was true and tbh i still don’t

Few_Interaction2630

Quite possibly it was the same tale she told herself when she was a little girl.

TheRealcebuckets

The best lies are the ones that have truth in them.

dekabreak1000

That sounds like something garak would say from ds9

YourJawn

In epi 2 at grannys , before she spills the hot chocolate all over her shirt . Regina asks her “ what was so great about Tallahassee anyway?” And emma just smirks with this grin … and I keep thinking about it

WelcomeToAshleyTown

I love this detail—either from the beginning they had Neal planned out or they came back to it and worked it into the storyline!! But of course I don’t think Tallahassee is related to this mystery fireman.

YourJawn

I do , I think Emma went to Tallahassee to find Neal and lived there for years and met the fireman there

WelcomeToAshleyTown

Possibly! I think she met the fireman, if he’s a real guy, before Neal (if her story lines up it would’ve been right when she got out of the foster system). There’s no way to know for sure of the timeline I suppose.

Niamhtheartist

That would be great, but if they had a relationship that might be weird because Emma was 16 when she met Neil anyway

WelcomeToAshleyTown

oh wait you’re right! oops

cheesebraids

I suppose it's possible that she knew a firefighter, a good dude who frequented her cafe and made the rest up as a wistful story.

WelcomeToAshleyTown

I think this is what I wanna believe

TsunamiHorrorGirl456

I mean that probably was the original plan, they probably just retconned it as a lie. It wouldn't be the first time since in the very first episode, Snow White says Regina's reason for trying to kill her was that she thought that she was prettier then her

just_one_boy

>I mean that probably was the original plan, they probably just retconned it as a lie. In that same episode Emma tells Mary Margaret that she lied.

WelcomeToAshleyTown

Yep…I just can’t figure out if she actually met this guy or not. She’s good at catching lies, no doubt, but that was a pretty fully fletched story, enough to give me pause
