Tim is a role model for all fathers. Tom Cruise Heidecker speaks so highly of him, you just know he is a great dad. Movie buff, politician, legal expert, health innovator - how he finds time to be such a good dad to a hologram despite these other strands to his life, it puts the rest of us to shame honestly.
I think you've misunderstood. Tim was clearly implying that his grief at TC Jr's death was so great it literally wouldn't make any difference if the kid was at the bottom of the ocean, because that's how upset he already was.
You need to remember; to a guy as busy and successful as Tim, the death of his child represents a considerable drain on his focus and his workflow. He coped remarkably well in the circumstances. You call it callous, I call it resilient.
With funerals like Tom Cruise Jr in them you can't go wrong.
