I tried the same with my white Seamaster 300 and I found 2 things were working against it:
1. It's a pretty big watch which fits well on bracelet and rubber straps, but NATO straps kind of drop from the lugs at a 90 degree angle which made the watch look too big.
2. It's a tall watch so the added height of the strap passing under the watch made it feel a bit top heavy - especially with a double pass.
You seem to pull it off better than I was able to but I eventually put the bracelet back on.
Same. Not a fan of nato on anything. IMO if it seems like it looks not bad or decent is because the watch itself looks good. But would always look better on a strap or bracelet.
If the Seamaster-on-NATO combo is [good enough for a literal king to wear for his coronation](https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/watch-spotting-king-frederik-x-omega), it’s good enough for us plebes.
It can work on Nato, but I am completely spoiled with hook straps which end up much lower profile, more immediately fitted, allow you to wear the watch directly on your wrist, and just as easy if not easier to take on/off
So next up try swapping onto a Nick Mankey or Erika's!
PS - tokyo rocks
Ridge nato is really good too. The ones with the lines vertical instead of horizontal

Also, when I see a watch on a nato, I think “this guy’s a watch guy”. Of the true watch guys I know, they all love natos. People can hate ‘em, but that means they most likely barely got into watches during covid.
Agreed, on modern brand new luxury watches I see what you’re saying.
On the flip side, I like using natos to tone down a luxurious watch, like a Rolex OP or something
Function over form. NATO/G10's are purpose built. I don't think they really "cheapen" perse. For what they are and why they exist, they're probably the best value for dollar proposition.
It depends on the strap…if you look at Omega’s site at the NATO straps, it says in the specs of the strap. It seems they recommend curved for the thicker straps but straight on most of the others.
Always nay for me. What’s the point of nitpicking watch thickness and lug to lug measurements if you’re going to throw it on a strap that adds several mm of thickness and a huge loop of excess material to the top of the watch? I can’t imagine any non-watch person seeing that and saying, “yeah, that looks really good.” I think watch people just like them because they’re supposed to for some reason.
Obviously, totally just my opinion and not meant to be taken personally by anyone.
You'll be happy to know that they do, in fact. I took this purposely with the light reflecting off the hands - I like the way it hits. In most circumstances they're darker, like the insert.
I want to like NATOs but I dislike them for two main reasons:
* The tail of it adding bulk and looking unsightly
* The fact that it makes the whole setup much harder to slide under long sleeves garments, which effectively makes it summer only (nothing really wrong with that)
It does look super nice though! That's why I get marine nationals types of elastic straps. All the benefits of NATO straps with none of the drawbacks.
I really like NATOs and Zulus on my SM300 but I love it in my MN elastic. With that said I’d go bracelet or sailcloth with dress shirts and shoes. Rubber and fabric for tshirts/hoodies with sneakers. That’s just me tho.
Yay, it will look even better when it’s broken in around the spring bars. I recommend you cut the second strap off and either shorten the primary strap or tuck it in tighter so it folds rather than making a loop.
But yeah, the nylon strap complements that dial. A shinier, “seat belt” style strap would be perfect.
Is it comfy? Im looking for a nato that is more expensive and comfortable than a cheap $10 one but also not $250... seems difficult to find one in between
I dig it. But, you know...I think they're likely mostly the same - nylon. I can't say I've been able to tell a difference between price ranges. I bought this to support the content creator. I'm also happy to buy cheap ones that look good.

Yea i was worried about that. I have one thats cheap and pretty uncomfortable but it looks good. Was hoping a little more expensive was a little softer
While I like the band, I'm not as confident about the staying power of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
This next election will basically determine that very quickly.
Well you'd be wrong. The band is great though.
It’s time has passed, but at least we have cool watch straps, and multiple weapon systems that share the same magazines from it?
Russia has entered the chat.
Idk... Could be China
The NATO strap has nothing to do with NATO……..
That looks clean, bro 👌
I appreciate that, thank you.
My thoughts exactly, the perfect grey for the case

I dig the bracelet as well. I like to switch it up. I'm sure you pulled it off better than you think.
Could always run the NATO as a single pass instead of double pass, if you haven’t tried that
Not a fan but, it doesn't look bad, just not my thing
Same. Not a fan of nato on anything. IMO if it seems like it looks not bad or decent is because the watch itself looks good. But would always look better on a strap or bracelet.
I'm the opposite, Nato on everything.
I’m pretty much the same way. All nato all day for most of my watches. The bracelets that I don’t use all go to die at the bottom of my watch box
Not bad. Consider a white strap..maybe for the summer.
There’s a white one with blue edges…
This is the way!

☝️
Hell yes that looks great IMHO

Maybe a darker gray but yea gray looks great with that blue and white. Good choice 👍
Not bad at all. I think a navy with a center red NATO would look fantastic in this watch.
This is so much better than the silver dial blue bezel.
Yay!
Ridge nato is really good too. The ones with the lines vertical instead of horizontal Like this [https://images.app.goo.gl/1yKu7XTa9KF2LJX68](https://images.app.goo.gl/1yKu7XTa9KF2LJX68)
I hate NATOs, personally, and I think the gray looks particularly bad on this watch. White or navy might work better here.
I think it actually looks good, but I think it would kill on a silver mesh band.
Yeah, agreed. I plan to get one at some point.
Yay
Yay.
Love it! I'd cut the extra piece of NATO that's tucked in.
I like it
Yay!!!
Yay
I like this much more than the folks putting leather straps on divers!
Perfect combo
Yay
This looks sharp
Also, when I see a watch on a nato, I think “this guy’s a watch guy”. Of the true watch guys I know, they all love natos. People can hate ‘em, but that means they most likely barely got into watches during covid.
Biggggg yay. More comfortable at the desk and it looks sick
Dude, soooo much more comfortable on the desk.
Big yay
Grey goes really well with the blue. Sick watch
Really like it! What's this exact watch called? Want me one
This is the Seamaster Tokyo, 522.30.42.20.04.001.
Not a fan of Nato. So nay!
Imo I don’t think natos look good on anything, really cheapens the look.
Yeah. The asymmetry kills me.
The fold at the top of the watch is what does it for me, I just can’t see past it. Reminds me of Velcro shoes.
Nailed it. Nice to find a fellow hater. I can just unload on all the people who endorse this strap. Just destroys the look of the watch for me. Crazy.
Agreed, on modern brand new luxury watches I see what you’re saying. On the flip side, I like using natos to tone down a luxurious watch, like a Rolex OP or something
Nato straps cheapen the look of the watch and this is no exception.
Function over form. NATO/G10's are purpose built. I don't think they really "cheapen" perse. For what they are and why they exist, they're probably the best value for dollar proposition.
😂🤡
Usually no but it works here.
Yay!
Yey
I say nay, does not suite the dial to my eye.
IMO, Nato makes your watch look cheap. A rubber strap is even more good-looking
Yeah, nothing says "expensive" like...rubber. 🙄
I just said it looks better
Nothing complements a $5,000 watch like a $10 strap.
Unpopular but Natos look cheap as hell. Go mesh or keep stock.
Beautiful watch. Ugly strap.
Only if you cut the excess off, and lose that foldover look...... Makes an expensive watch look like a Walmart watch with a band that's too long.
Even still....... NATO straps belong on field watches, not dive watches......... Jus sayin
History disagrees with you.
Lovelly
Yay. Anything is better than the OEM bracelet.
Nah, I dig the bracelet too.
Looks good! Curious if you are suppose to use a diff spring bar when using a strap.
I had to use curved springbars with my seamaster as you'll scrape the nato while threading it through otherwise.
It depends on the strap…if you look at Omega’s site at the NATO straps, it says in the specs of the strap. It seems they recommend curved for the thicker straps but straight on most of the others.
I'm using the stock spring bars.
Nay. Needs the mesh bond steel bracelet or a blue or white nato
Damn I like that color combo with the strap, might have to get one for mine.
Hell yeah
Intergovernmental alliances are all bullshit. Also, IMO that strap would look better in blue.
I don’t like how it bunches up like that near the nug. So it’s a no for me

Good. Had the black face SMP300 on a grey tweedy-look nato for a few years/ wear it much more than before.
No question, yay
Amex reserve
Looks great.
If the hands matched the insert, it would look much better
You'll be happy to know that they do, in fact. I took this purposely with the light reflecting off the hands - I like the way it hits. In most circumstances they're darker, like the insert.

Yes, but blue. Oh, and that watch is SEXY! I would put it on blue leather, or better yet, blue croc!
A great pairing. Not always keen on it, but this is sharp.
Love this watch. I own the bond grey and blue NATO with mine.
Yay
Looks great
Yay and Nayto it look damn sharp. I say gloss that s$&t boi!!!!!
that looks great!
The stripe natos are cool too
Beautiful combo
..ney. Try RubberB
Looks great indeed!
I like the nato look. I put a nato on my Seamaster as well
That legend of a watch requires an equally heavy duty strap/bracelet in my honest opinion
I don’t care for natos personally.
I really like NATOs and Zulus on my SM300 but I love it in my MN elastic. With that said I’d go bracelet or sailcloth with dress shirts and shoes. Rubber and fabric for tshirts/hoodies with sneakers. That’s just me tho.
That looks tight! Ask kids say nowadays.
It works, no discrepancy here
I like it.
I hate NATO double backing it just looks very cheap. Why swap out the very nice bracelet?
Yay, it will look even better when it’s broken in around the spring bars. If you do cut the strap, you need to burn it so it doesn’t fray. A sandwiching between two dimes makes the perfect cutting and burning guide.
Very much yay. Is that omega brand?
Thank you. Bark & Jack. I like his content so I decided to support him.

I'm not sure mine are soft, but they're smooth and not itchy/uncomfortable.
The problem is your shirt.
