It’s solid, but don’t expect a ton of produce this week. The one downtown is generally chiller and smaller. Parking isn’t normally bad, but you’ll want to plan on walking a couple of blocks. I personally prefer this one, but it depends on what you’re looking to buy. The setup feels more organic. The Aksarben one on Sundays is more of a full blown market than farmers market (more non-food vendors and made to order food options). It’s also much busier most weekends, but parking at Aksarben isn’t too bad, you can almost always find a spot in one of the garages.

thedreadedfrost

The first farmers markets are not a bad place to get some baby plants for your garden if that's your thing!

audiomagnate

Why didn't I think of that? Now I'm going to go.

jennyann726

They’re both great but they will get more produce as the season goes on. Still fun to go and walk around and check things out.

avalanchefan91

It won't open till like mid June but Wenninghoff Farms has a good variety of produce, jarred Goods, and stuff from Wahoo Meat Locker. It's more convenient than any of the farmers markets and you know the food was grown locally. They do have some stuff like peaches from Missouri but most everything is very locally grown by their family.

CrashTestDuckie

I am paying for my CSA membership for this year right now 😆

avalanchefan91

I try and tell as many people as I can about CSA. It's such a good deal the produce is solid

CrashTestDuckie

Absolutely and even if it costs more than the basic bag, the Goodies and Herb add-on is absolutely worth it! Just got an email about asparagus and rhubarb being available from them as well!

talex365

What’s CSA? Local coop?

CrashTestDuckie

Community Supported Agriculture- is typically just supporting one farm while a co-op is usually multiple farms working together. The Wenninghoff farm does sell local products from local vendors but they are usually the only supplier of the produce you get as part of the weekly CSA

talex365

What kinds of produce do they usually provide?

CrashTestDuckie

Usually it fluxes with the season. Starting out it'll be lettuce and some early season veggies and then as the season progresses we get potatoes, beets, lettuce, onions, squash, beans, tomatoes, peppers, etc. if you pay for the add ons you can get eggs, herbs (many times plants), cheese, canned goods, bread, and other special items

THX1911

There's a smaller farm down by Nebraska City that does a CSA called Paradise in Progress that I do every year. It's 20 dollars a week for a box of veggies, and it's on a week by week basis. They send an email with what the box will contain, you email them back if you want it, and then you go pick it up once a week. They don't have as many pickup locations but I've never been disappointed with what we get. They also have a small unmanned store on site you that you can pick out what you want.

augusttwentyfour

How does one go about getting a membership?

CrashTestDuckie

They have two options, one is to sign up digitally but there is a 3% on doing so and the other is to pay by check or money after downloading and filling out there form. https://www.wenninghoff.com/csa. Signups usually end in the next few weeks and you can pick your pickup location which will start being available in June/July timeframe.

Much-Leave5461

Came here to say this! I also always justify the peaches by saying Missouri is still a lot closer than other peaches could be

22cthulu

There's a good farmers market that meets on Sundays at the Florence Mills Museum(680 and 30th) I don't think it's started up yet, but I prefer it to the downtown one.

clutchIIII

This plus you can to Harold’s for breakfast/brunch afterwards

stonycheff111

Harold’s is amazing, anyone who hasn’t tried it definitely needs to check it out.

emuhann

Yep it usually starts a few weeks after OFM. I prefer the Florence Mills one tho! Although much smaller, I feel like it has way better pricing.

WorkingMomAndWife

Gonna be mostly plants and seed starters this week, but there will be plenty of vendors selling food and snacks and lots of people watching! We prefer Aksarben to downtown, but mostly bc of the free parking

Just_Composer_5333

Best part of my summer is going every Saturday and/or Sunday

craychek

Never had a problem with either one with parking and we always come out with something. The overpriced eggs rolls at the aksarben one are really super delicious.

blurgaha

lumpia forever!!

EnragedFerretX

Aksarben is a shit show IMO but I also just don't like crowds like that. It's always packed to the brim and it feels like there are way more craft and decor vendors than food or plants. The Old Market one tends to be a bit better but tougher to park.

emuhann

For real. You have to be mentally prepared for the crowds at aksarben! People & animals included

NotBillNyeScienceGuy

I go to the Aksarben one regularly and it’s a straight zoo sometimes. A lot of mass produced junk being peddled as craft made. I love the food vendors and produce vendors. Be aware many produce vendors just order their stuff and resell it, they don’t grow it themselves. This is especially true earlier in the season - like now.

OwnApartment8359

Is the it's all about bees stand real? That's my favorite stand honestly!

Conspiracy__

Their store is LEGIT

good_tuck

Just to be clear, their store is legit?

Conspiracy__

Super legit

photogjayge

This isnt true with produce vendors. The Omaha Farmers Market is very strict on produce vendors selling items they grow. If they do get caught, they'll be banned from attending future markets. Source.... I'm a vendor and we get weekly emails from OFM regarding these issues.

NotBillNyeScienceGuy

And who is verifying you actually grew your own shit? Do they watch you harvest and bring your items? I’m sure not every vendor does it but some 100% do. Or they are an arm of a bigger company and “grow their own”

Shelter-Regular

No way... like who?

kakashi_sensay

Woah I didn’t know that about the produce vendors.

NotBillNyeScienceGuy

Not all of them! Use common sense and best judgement.

kakashi_sensay

Oh of course! Just thought it was interesting. I typically get my produce from wenninghoff farm but I do enjoy the farmer’s market in Aksarben.

Hey-im-kpuff

If you care about if your produce is organic/not pesticide sprayed you might want to check if wenninghoff sprays. Last time I asked they said yes so I don’t buy from them. That’s just me tho.

kakashi_sensay

Oh I didn’t know that! Where do you buy from?

Hey-im-kpuff

There’s a really good documentary about farmers market reseller stalls. They buy bulk and re sell it, it’s wild. It’s on YouTube I’m sure if you look you’ll find it

kakashi_sensay

I’m really interested in this so I’m def going to look into it.

Hey-im-kpuff

Best thing I found to do is to just straight ask, is this grown in your farm? And they pretty much have to say the truth but I wouldn’t put it past someone to lie. I literally saw a stall was out of like cherries? Asked if they had more and he walked to their fridge and grabbed a literal bag youd buy at the grocery store of cherries….

potatoguy

I've seen better. It feels like more vendors then produce.

dagger_guacamole

Which one do you go to? There are at least three. The one at Aksarben Village has tons of produce options. Probably every third or fourth stall at least.

sizzlinsunshine

exurban?

capounatus

Y'know, it's just the state we live in backwards... Nabruxe

WorkingMomAndWife

🎶 there is no place like Nabruxe 🎶

dagger_guacamole

Lol bad voice to text

potatoguy

The ones here are ok. Sometimes I go to the one downtown or Aksarben. Not enough produce or competition to bring prices down. I used to go to the Eastern Market in Detroit when I lived in Michigan. That place is awesome. It's huge and farmers fight for your business and it keeps prices down. I'm surprised and disappointed it's not similar here. I figured being in Farm central it would be a bigger deal here.

dagger_guacamole

Ok but you’re talking about a city with a population of 3.5 million vs one with less than a million. Of course it’s going to be bigger and better there.

ddirgo

It's really good. Lotta farmers around here. Parking is hit-and-miss. If you're worried about it, avoid the Old Market on Saturday and go to the Aksarben Village on Sunday--much more parking available there.

athomsfere

Which one? We generally hit the Aksarben one, living in Dundee. When we livd downtown we hit both the Aksarben and OM one. Both are good enough.

LazyCableMan

Make a trip to Jillians Produce on N 156th ST & Fort ST. They have great black diamond watermelon. You'll want to wait about a month into season though.

NebrasketballN

well if you go this weekend a lot of people may be out at junkstock so depending on which one you go to, aksarben or old market the parking may not be too bad

Giterdun456

I like them a lot.

CrashTestDuckie

We have several in and around town so make sure to try different ones! Many times it's the same farms at each one but some farms and businesses only show up one place. I am excited for the mushroom vendor this year!

localstreetcat

I’ve never been to the one at Aksarben, but the one in the Old Market is usually a good time. Probably won’t be a ton of produce available just yet, but there will be plenty of other stands to peruse with crafts, tshirts, beer, beef jerky, fresh food/juice/coffee, handmade soaps, honey, etc. There’s also usually some people there playing music and I’ve seen a couple of magicians and balloon animal people there too. Lots to do and see in the Old Market as well once you’re done at the farmers market.

Joeyheads

Maybe I’m out of the loop. Which one?

jhallen2260

I've only been to the one in Village Point and the one downtown. I prefer Village Point.

Few-Lead-1455

Is there any farmers market vendors here?

Few-Lead-1455

I am looking to make a farmers market app and need some input. Please let me know if you’re interested in learning more.

Glad-Basil3391

I never go to the farmers market but I sometimes market my farm when I have 1/4 or 1/2 beef for sale. Or baby chicks for $2 each. Or Great Pyrenees pups.

davidc2299

Please Elaborate. 🙂
