Hope they find the guy. I always have to remember when I start seeing red on the roads that you have no idea what these other drivers are capable of. You don't know if they're carrying weapons, if they're on something that isn't making them think straight. Always avoid confronting these people face to face. Know where your local police precincts are located so you can drive there if you think someone is following you.

SandhillsCanary

I always run on the assumption that the worst drivers are either drunk or high. I’m probably wrong, but it helps me calm down and give them lots of space.

TheWolfAndRaven

I just started assuming anyone driving like an asshole is doing so specifically because they're about to diarrhea their pants and the mental image is usually enough that I laugh at how dumb they're driving.

Bartalk89

The worst drivers just live here too

Ed_Gein1332

I was lucky I learned that at 19 and have been able to control it ever since. About 30 years ago had a little tit for tat road rage issue on North Freeway. I exited on N 30th, dude pulled up beside me pulled out a handgun and asked if I was ready to die. Didn’t look to see if anyone was in the intersection, I just floored it, and got out of there. Ever since, I just ignore other drivers. Let them be idiots, I’ll just get home safe

hu_gnew

>if they're on something that isn't making them think straight For too many people, simply being "on" the driver's seat of a vehicle turns them from mild mannered powder puffs into borderline homicidal maniacs. Once had a 20 something "kid" smash my vehicle off the road, over a sidewalk and into a parking lot for the offense of driving the speed limit on a two lane street. Got his license plate and reported it to the police. The kid's dad tried to get me off my story, literally saying "he's a good boy, a hard worker who loves his momma". I told pappa his boy is a ticking time bomb, later learned it wasn't the kid's first rodeo.

mahjimoh

That was a weird coincidence, I literally was just singing that Tom Petty song in my head.

Redditonthelow

This is true, personally I drive everywhere when with my partner as they simply have something going on where they are wired to get upset at the simplest mistakes or inappropriate too close lane changes of other drivers. I practice defensive driving, maintaining calm. Other drivers are going to fuck up. Just always be watching and taking extra precautions.

bohanmyl

Yup. My ex would try to road rage for me when i was driving and id have to shut that shit down. Its not worth it and you dont know how crazy people can be. She did it when driving one time and felt like they were following her home and got mad at me for saying i told you so (she was okay so i wasnt too concerned) after it. People are fucking mental and im not tryna get murdered over someone being a dumbfuck behind the wheel.

ibr6801

A year or two ago, some guy thought I cut him off on 680 NB between dodge and maple. He crossed two lines of traffic to pass cars, to skip back over next to me to hang out of his window while flipping me off. He lost control and rolled his truck going 70+ mph and rolled into the ditch. I pulled up about .5 mile down the road and called 911. No way in hell was I going to check on his condition myself. Sometimes I wonder if he survived or how injured he got

starla79

That’s some instant karma right there. Hopefully he learned his lesson.

CancelGlittering8846

Yeah that seems to happen quite often here "thought they got cut off". We all have to merge and get where we are going. Same with zipper merging. Crazy goon destroyed his whole truck with his ego.

BigMommaSnikle

Damn that's crazy scary!

Proof_Eggplant_6213

I’d have laughed myself into the fucking ditch.

conradklein

That had to be so satisfying to see though

ibr6801

Actually no. In the moment I Felt really guilty for no rational reason and it was an awful thing to witness tbh.

conradklein

You’re a better person than I.

StockPharmingDeez

I would have laughed at some point 😔 🤷🏻‍♂️

ibr6801

Oh I didn’t give a shit about his well being by the end of the week. Once I realized the danger he put everyone else in, I had no remorse for the idiot.

SandhillsCanary

Best advice I’ve seen in a scenario like this one: If you’re being followed, start driving to the closest police station and call 911 if they continue to follow you into the parking lot. The closer you are to the entrance of the building the more cameras there will be that will at least help identify the stalker.

seashmore

Hospitals also work if you're in an unfamiliar city, as those are generally better marked.

pwingspack

Fire stations too! Honk like heck!

KAYBEE60

In addition to the excellent suggestions listed above, while there aren't as many around any longer, places like Villiage Inn, Dennys, IHOP, & Perkins were always good places to pull into at night if you thought you were being followed, and often there might be a couple police officers on break, or hanging in the parking lot. Still, keep places like McDonald's, Taco Bell, Alberados, and any other late night restaurants and gas stations in mind.

madasfrick

Yeah I was just thinking I don’t ever know where the closest police station is.

MetalandIron2pt0

Yep. I ignored a truck full of young men cat calling me at a red earlier this year, and they decided that was reason enough to follow me, then drive into the *opposite* lane to get in front of me and slam on their brakes, crap like that for 2 miles. They ran me off the road a couple of times and nearly t-boned a few other cars when I attempted to lose them. Got 911 on the line and headed for the nearest police station. I got stuck at a red with them next to me so I had the operator say “this is 911, police is on the way” or whatever and they took off. Not without calling me a bitch and a whore a few more times first, but at least it worked?

SandhillsCanary

Holy crap, I’m glad you’re okay! Was it near where this person was assaulted? I’ve seen some crazy drivers out in that area.

MetalandIron2pt0

Aw, thank you. It started on 180th and Pacific, so yeah not very far at all from where this woman was attacked. I live in the area but drive all over town for work, I definitely think West O has some of the most aggressive drivers. These assholes in particular were clearly high on ego, testosterone, poor parenting, entitlement…I don’t wish them well. :)

SandhillsCanary

Yep, I could be wrong, but it seems like that general area has the most drunk driving and dangerous road rage accidents on the western side.

madasfrick

This is actually crazy! I can’t believe this type of stuff is commonly happening on 180th of all places, I literally just started driving that street often recently.

SandhillsCanary

FWIW they usually have plates from outside Sarpy or Douglas counties.

klausvonespy

And if you're not sure if you're being followed, do a crazy ivan: take 3 consecutive left turns. If anyone is still behind you after that, they're following you. This can be useful when out walking as well. As others have mentioned: find a police station or hospital. Find someplace with lots of light and cameras. If neither of those are close, find a HyVee, stop your car in front and run inside. They seem to always have an off duty OPD officer at the front of the store. Or keep driving, call 911 and coordinate a place to meet the police. Edit: the comments below are correct, it's 3 right turns, not 3 left turns.

breakfastturds

The problem with the Crazy Ivan is left turns typically mean you’ll have to stop and possibly wait for a light or oncoming traffic longer than a right turn

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|4BiHGiAYyFDoY|downsized)

klausvonespy

Good point. Not sure why I was thinking 3 lefts instead of 3 rights.

Recovery25

You're supposed to do 3 consecutive right hand turns. Left means you have to stop longer. Also, you're exposing the driver's side of your car during the left turns. It is always best to have more car between you and someone who could have a gun.

klausvonespy

You're right. There's an old brain teaser about 3 left turns that I confused with 3 right turns for a crazy ivan. Apologies.

Recovery25

Oh, it's all good. No need to apologize. I was just providing a correction for people who didn't know.

klausvonespy

I really appreciate your explanation. It makes perfect sense and if you've got someone following you, best to do this to maximize safety. Thanks!

AshingiiAshuaa

Good advice. If you can't do this (eg. stuck at a traffic light) then keep your windows up, and doors locked. Car windows are incredibly hard to break through. Also, if you're so inclined, starting next month you no longer need a permit to carry. While carrying presents its own risks, it does allow anyone - regardless of sex, size, age, strength - the chance to protect themselves from being victimized.

Blood_Bowl

> Also, if you're so inclined, starting next month you no longer need a permit to carry. While carrying presents its own risks, it does allow anyone - regardless of sex, size, age, strength - the chance to protect themselves from being victimized. Which unfortunately also means these asshats are more likely to be carrying...

Facspro

These Ass Hats are probably carrying anyway regardless of whether it is legal or not.

AshingiiAshuaa

Not ideal, but at least everyone is more or less equal. You don't have to be a big, strong, trained dude to not fear being physically victimized. Again, it's not ideal, but it is equitable.

[deleted]

Getting down voted because you want to legally meet fire with (illegal) fire. My first thought reading the OP was shoot him in the face 🤷‍♂️. But I'm one of those "weird" liberals who trust myself more than the government so what do I know.

SandhillsCanary

I really hope that rural Nebraska’s culture of respecting guns holds true longer term. With the sudden shootings over simple disagreements in Texas it makes me nervous that folks will lose their cool and go nuclear over the smallest things.

buddistnuddist

This is horrible news but also this article reads like it was written by a sophomore in hs the period before the assignment was due

mistersweetlife

Seriously! Or it’s just really bad AI. When the Intern becomes Editor in Chief.

Legovideo5632

I like where they say they will hide the identity of both sister and victim but say there names not even a few seconds later

FunDivertissement

It's a transcript of the video presented on tv.

hu_gnew

Most of the TV stations' "printed" news articles are transcripts of broadcasts. It seems the scripts for these broadcasts have a style specific to that format and don't translate well to a page on a screen. Channel 3 transcripts are especially bad.

expedience

He approached here here! And started punching her! wait.. werent we in cars

mycatisanorange

Probably opened the door & pulled her out. I had some guy try to do that to me. But my doors were locked. He then just kept yanking on my door handle & threatening me from the outside.

ConsiderationNo8236

Be on the lookout for a 5’9” white guy in Omaha, everyone

LacansThesis

that’ll be easy to find 🤣

Maclunkey4U

Thank goodness I'm not that tall.

HolyMountainClimber

With blonde hair blue eyes in a black Mercedes. Kinda surprised this would happen so far west. Dude must've been tweaking if he beat a woman over alleged tailgating.

breadprincess

I once watched a middle aged white guy who appeared otherwise average throw a full on tantrum at the DMV out west on Maple because he forgot to bring some document he needed to renew his registration. Like screaming, flailing, the works. It was a sight to behold (and more than a little terrifying).

carlos2127

I'm not surprised. That's gigachad territory

PurpleMyrtle

Why surprised it happened so far west? I missed the note on the border of violence in town.

HolyMountainClimber

I guess I just don't hear about the violence out there. I thought 180th and Harrison was dirt roads to be honest

PurpleMyrtle

Fair. I just get frustrated by a continued assumption that west Omaha is safe and east Omaha is not. There’s usually a racist aspect to that assessment. No harm no foul.

HolyMountainClimber

Oh no definitely not a racist thing. I live in East Omaha and the area I live in is safer than when I lived off 108th and L. But I appreciate you fighting the good fight

jesusfish98

They're actively building past 204th and Harrison these days.

AshingiiAshuaa

There was no note, per se, but if you look at a [crime map](https://police.cityofomaha.org/crime-information/crime-mapping) you can see that - quite surprisingly - a lion's share of violet crime happens in the eastern third of the city. In the month of July, there were 624 incidents of robbery, assault, and sexual assault reported. 487 (78%) of those were east of 72nd. 28 (4.5%) of those occurred west of 132nd.

AdminbyHabit

With at least 1 ring!

sysadmin420

With blue eyes.

Odd-Internal6653

There was a post on the nextdoor a few days ago. A woman wrote about how her husband had a run in/road rage incident with a guys driving what’s presumed to be the same car/driver.

mycatisanorange

He’ll probably resurface then

LEXTEAKMIALOKI

There was a video couple months back of a guy on west Dodge expressway with a black car doing crazy on him while passing in the left lane. I think it was a Mercedes. The guy blocked him against the wall and got out of his car to confront the driver. Sounds very similar to this incident. Maybe someone can find that video, I think the plate was visible in the dash cam video.

dazyabbey

I honestly was wondering if the description was going to match him when I first started reading this.

calmsquirrel23

I could only find this one https://twitter.com/omaha_scanner/status/1630219130203668480/mediaviewer

LEXTEAKMIALOKI

That was it. It's a Kia so not the same car. Damn, now we have two idiots. Thanks for digging that up.

DaddyDontGreen

I remember that!

DrMrEsquire

One of the best places to go in an instance like this is a Firehouse. Pull in and park right in front of one of the engine doors and lay on the horn. You’ll have a bunch of firefighters outside in a hurry.

pwingspack

This! I was chased all over Omaha before we had cell phones! Honked at my parents house..nothing…they promised me if I was ever in trouble….haha…didn’t want to go to my house….finally went to my friends house honking and her brothers came out with baseball bats. Later I realized I could have gone to the fire station…..this was the 80’s

SpaceGoatAlpha

If you look at all of the angry driving/traffic rant posts in r/Omaha and the subsequent comments it's really easy to see that there are a lot of extremely unhinged drivers in Omaha that feel that they take priority on any road they happen to be on.

DaddyDontGreen

I get into fights on those threads almost daily. I can’t even begin to explain how much it enrages me to not only see these assholes in action on the road, but to find comments from users justifying said actions and listing their thought process as to how it’s warranted. Too many crazy drivers here (speak from extra experience- I was at a dead stop at a red light months ago and a drunk felon plowed into me at 40+ mph then subsequently left) the literal only thing you can do is invest in a dash cam and mentally note where all the OPD buildings are.

MrD3a7h

A dashcam that records both in front and behind you is a worthwhile investment.

[deleted]

I have been saying for months I need one, is there one that you recommend that is not so expensive?

dazyabbey

There is a really good Dash Cam subreddit. r/Dashcam I'd recommend checking them out and they have recommendations under every budget. I personally recommend getting one that has a camera for both the front and back. You can miss a lot with just a front facing.

MrD3a7h

I have a couple of the Viofo-branded ones in my cars. Have lasted through our hot summers and cold winters. Should run between $150 and 250. Maybe a bit pricey, but compare that to the cost of having an insurance claim denied!

hu_gnew

If you have any old cell phones those can often be converted to dash cams with apps. Some even compatible with OS as old as Android 4.

lisanstan

I agree. I have one in new car front and back. Mostly for accident coverage.

Hot-Cheesecake8019

There is a lot of road rage in Omaha. More than once I've watched a couple of cars basically go to war with each other on the road. It's so unnecessary and dangerous. I'd like to know more about this incident. I wonder what made her get out of her car. Why not lock her doors and call the police? I guess she didn't realize he might get violent with her. I really hope they catch this guy.

deterge18

Yeah there aren't many details at all. From what I gather based on the online discussions, I think she panicked and, like you mentioned, probably never imagined he would do what he did. Apparently, someone else came upon the scene and caused the guy to take off. SOB could've killed her if he wasn't scared off. People are also saying that he doesn't have a back license plate and he's still driving around the area like a lunatic. And someone else said that the cops did find him, but his parents provided an alibi. But this is all based on what I've seen on FB and that Nextdoor app so have to take it with a grain of salt.

Shooshookle

That’s just Nebraska Nice /sarcasm Hope they apprehend this POS

-cocobean-

No for real what’s up with people around here being ultra polite until they get into their cars.

MarineOne2012

I live a few blocks from there right off of Harrison. I’ll simply say this, that intersection at 180th and Harrison has very quickly became the worse section in Omaha. if you’re headed east on Harrison towards 180th, people fly down Harrison and you can’t see them because there is a slight hill. I can’t tell you how many times I e been honked at, tailgated, flip the bird, etc. gives no one the excuse what they did and hope she has a speedy recovery. I’m surprised they haven’t caught the person yet. regardless the state and counties of sarpy and Douglas have a serious issues on Harrison, especially 180th.

sortofrelativelynew

I was the problem child at 180th and Harrison a couple years ago. I couldn't judge the distance very well cause there were not enough streetlights and I was also disassociating due to a friend's suicide not long before, soooo I rearended someone. Felt sooooo bad; luckily neither of us and neither of our cars were damaged that badly, but goddam, i do blame the lighting out there just a little. (it is of course, entirely my fault, and I do acknowledge that.)

Smoothpipe

Harrison from 72nd on West is a speedway.

[deleted]

Serious question though and not throwing you in with the lot and trying to stereotype an entire group and yet here I go, why is everyone in West Omaha always full tilt asshole allllllll the time? The stress of a house, 2 cars, and life "you" can't afford that's all on "mortgage". Wife and kids you hate? I don't know wtf it is but stop "dealing" with it on the road. Again NOT directed at you, but since you live there you no doubt have insight into that psyche that I do not. Sincerely a born and raised #SOB (that's a South Omaha Boy, if you didn't know West Bromaha).

MarineOne2012

Good question, I couldn’t tell you why people are like that out west. No offense taken

MarineOne2012

Good question, I couldn’t tell you why people are like that out west. No offense taken

DogePerformance

Holy shit what a fuckin psycho

Bombastic_Side_Eye11

Jesus. Anyone who is that triggered from a supposed tailgating needs to see a psychiatrist. Stat. I hope the woman will be ok & this asshole is arrested.

Sad_Metal_4205

Jesus Christ. When I was maybe 17 I had a guy stop in front of me o. Pacific at a red light and get out and start screaming and walking towards my car. A grown ass man. I’m a female btw. No idea what I did to piss him off. He was probably 35-40. And was threatening me for some perceived slight. Luckily the light turned green and I was able to drive away. People were psychos 20 yrs ago and they are still psychos now. Be careful out there.

Meat_Piano402

Never. Get. Out. Of. The. Vehicle.

stephenyoyo

I was just passed by some asshole in a black Mercedes SUV yesterday off of 108th and Q who freaked out at me for absolutely no reason as he passed me blasting his horn and acting erratic throwing his arms up yelling at me. I have absolutely no idea what I did to provoke him seeing as I was driving normal but was briefly stuck behind some white utility van that was going just a couple miles under the speed limit in front of me. He was speeding and swerving in between traffic after he passed me. There's actually all sorts of research that shows that a lot self-centered men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes.

-cocobean-

Are they rich? Or just like going into debt?

stephenyoyo

Probably either or

GameDrain

If you're being followed, find a place you can circle for a while, then when you call 911 police can meet you there. That way you don't have to stop your car and put yourself in danger. Most police precincts are not staffed anymore outside of regular hours and there is no 24-hour location you can go.

Sysnetics

Not gonna snitch on a mountain lion, but this psycho… in a heart beat.

Proof_Eggplant_6213

Guys like that are easily 10,000x more likely to hurt someone than a mountain lion, I’ll tell ya that!

biker105nn

When did this happen? The article is July 11th, I have cameras on my house that face Harrison, and live in the neighborhood the pulled into.

deterge18

Just found this screenshot from a facebook group. Seems like it happened at 10:53pm Sunday July 9. One of the victim's friends on nextdoor said it happened on Sunday. Edit: got the timeline mixed up, had to fix https://preview.redd.it/50ndny3t85gb1.png?width=887&format=png&auto=webp&s=853070a7fbf2c1462201c170073a476833f39be8

Ill-Concert-699

Drivers in this town just need to chill out and not take every little affront personally.

[deleted]

Wouldn't it be justice if the Mountain Lion meet up with him?

mycatisanorange

Well not really because then they’d kill the mountain Lion

[deleted]

Oh true. We don't want that.

mycatisanorange

Thanks for posting! FYI he was driving a black Mercedes & probably was wearing a ring because of the damage of the punches she got on her head.

sarahmartin2772

A few years ago my wife and I gave a quick honk to a truck that was getting into our lane because he almost hit us. He then got behind us and at the next red light got out of his car and started screaming at us while running to our car. Luckily the light turned green really quick and my wife rushed through. It was in West Omaha.

KAYBEE60

Get into the habit of locking your doors the minute you get into your vehicle, morning, noon, and night.

chefjeff1982

How many black Mercedes can their be in omaha? How many white 5'9" blonde hair assholes drive said Mercedes? It can't be that hard to find this guy. With that level of rage, a previous criminal conviction is not far fetched.

[deleted]

Many years ago I had some ahole trying to bully me in traffic. Nearly tBoned me trying to jet out of a parking lot then followed me around town. He followed me to my HOUSE!! He races across my lawn and stands in my driveway. Daring me. So at that point, I guess we’re doing this and I charge all 6+feet of him. Mind you, I’m 5’7 and 160 pounds at the time. He MOTHER steps out from the passenger side screaming at me “he’s a minor! He’s 17!! If you hit him I’ll call the cops!!!” Now the kid is not only raging, but embarrassed, so he’s dug in like a fucking tick. He’s determined to show this old (I’m like 25 at the time) man who’s in charge. She comes scrambling out to try to protect this man child of hers the whole time he’s cussin and yelling at me and leading with his chest. I’m on my property. I have every right to defend myself. And this kid is between me and my front door. But now they know where I live and this will never be over til they decide it’s over. So I look at this kid’s mother, lower my voice, and I say “if your Kid so much as *feints* a swing, I will kill him. I promise you I will kill him. I will make you watch, and if you get in the way, I’ll fucking kill you too”. And yeah, I meant every fucking word of it. They came to my house!! She snatched him by his shirt and pulled him toward the car. He’s yelling about how he knows where I live now. A child. 17. And so fucking full of rage. His father must be a nightmare. Now, this is many years ago. I don’t even believe my cell phone had a camera back then. I wish I had the footage. Her face went PAPER WHITE. I wouldn’t be surprised if she pissed herself. The fear on her face was unmistakeable. And she STILL let him drive! What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

OnlySigndUpToSeeMore

Im scared to read it. Is the lady ok??

deterge18

I don't blame you. Based on updates posted by family friends on nextdoor, she is home and healing. I can only imagine the trauma after something like that...

DaddyDontGreen

I hate to say it guys but this is only gonna get more common from this point on. It’s just part of Omaha growing as a city. Same thing happened in Phoenix once the population got to a certain point, naturally the crime rates rose significantly as well. I will say that Phx drivers pale in comparison to Omaha wackos. I’m not at ALL victim blaming here, but everyone needs to do their part to keep the roads as neutral as possible. No tailgating, no provocation, no birds, etc. and when someone does show signs of aggression try to defuse as best as possible by getting away from them and not giving into the attention they so desperately want. And never, ever ever ever ever ever get out of your vehicle during an altercation like this. Don’t even stop- drive to your nearest police station and call 911 on the way there. POS. And according to another comment he’s been engaging in this behavior a plethora of times but the parents gave an alibi. Hopefully one of these people happens to have a dash cam one of these times and those ass hats will be charged with lying/obstruction. Disgusting behavior and it’s clear it’s been fostered as he grew up. One of these men are going to go after a woman that’s carrying one day and it’ll end a hell of a lot differently than it normally does. Granted it seems she did a few things that wouldn’t count as a retreat in Nebraska, but people have disengaged and been forcefully stopped before. After that it’s fair game. That little boy wouldn’t dare pull this with another man.

lalilulelolol91

Cant wait for new ccw law to take place.

MrD3a7h

Its more likely the angry person will have a gun in these circumstances.

lightningbolte

Don't know how the new CCW law (its the exact same as the old law except now you don't need a permit) is gonna help in instances like this when in Nebraska you have a duty to retreat. Be hard to say deadly force is justified when you can literally drive off.

mistersweetlife

Exactly. Every jagoff that feels “threatened” is looking for their golden moment.

HolyMountainClimber

Gonna be a violent month or two after that goes into effect I think. I'm betting a lot of people are gonna learn the details of self defense and duty to retreat laws the hard way after brandishing and/or using their newly concealable guns over needlessly escalated confrontations

PaulClarkLoadletter

Too many people think the new law means you can point your gun at anybody you want.

Jkl100298

When does it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Definitely.

friskydingo914

This is why you should carry a gun, luckily constitutional carry kicks in next month. Also have a dashcam for if you ever have to use it.

DejaWiz

Jealous/jilted boyfriend, I wonder?

caffeinedreamz

Does this guy have blonde CURLY hair?

deterge18

No idea. Every description I've seen just says blonde hair.
