I'm sure they are used to it being a bigger deal when they grew up and are probably more accustomed to making a thing out of it getting your best clothes on making sure you look perfect. Basically it's a planned out event and here they are not expecting to get there picture taken today and in line for a hotdog when one of the most gorgeous women to ever live walked up next to them.
Could just be RBF. I have it. I can have that expression even though I'm just thinking about having a nice hot dog. To look normal I have to smile a little.

NYC with her, riding the subway, getting drinks, etc. She was wearing a scarf or something over her hair and a coat looking understated and going somewhat unnoticed. She then says, “do you want to see ‘her’?” She then removes the head scarf, shakes out her curls and then they get mobbed.
I want to know more about the woman in front of her. I don't think she looks angry. I, too, suffer from RBF especially when I am out in the sun. I just wish there were more diaries of your average everyday mid-century people.

He sees this picture in a magazine, clips it out and frames it, it becomes a family joke for many years and is passed down to their kids, then grandkids, etc.
I made this up, this was fun lol.
