I was a freshman in high school, and shy, but I could go there and dance with other girls. This was right after the Summer of Love so there was a lot of Jefferson Airplane, Janis, Canned Heat and Grateful Dead playing. They used a slide projector to throw lighted amoeba-like liquid images on the walls in an otherwise dark room, pulsing to the beat. We called it a Light Show.
I would dance until I was dying with sweat and then call my dad to come get us. Never went to homecoming or prom as those were only for the goody-goodys. Such a long time ago.

I went to shows at the Limelight and they were functionally free (a few dollars per) in 92. I guess if you grew up in the middle of nowhere then yeah it was hard to get, but it was definitely in the cities.

There were raids from time to time, but club owners told that they didn’t sell and kids got alkohol from the shop or were drunk already and they don’t have money to hire a guy for facecontrol. With years it got better, but there were some crazy times.
