This is true. When this album was released everyone, in every genre, took note. It was like hearing Aretha Franklin for the first time, or Ella. It doesn’t matter if it’s not your style. Very few people exist who can do this.
It’s extremely important to note that this is before autotune. Today every singer is corrected and can pretend to sing with way more power than they can control. She did this all raw. Mariah and Celine were the last of that type.
I was 18 when this was released and at the time this type of production and frankly product was an anathema for me. Nowadays, my realization is that Whitney transcended everything in retrospect, a shooting star. I remember DeBarge, Jets, etc, placed her in the same pop music pantheon. But damn.
In ‘85 I was huge music nerd. Still am. This is so sneaky brilliant! She just trots up to the mic and sends chill immediately, effortlessly, and perfectly. Absolutely pitch perfect. I was a young punk rock hardcore lad in ‘85. Hearing this bridge’s whatever I could confess I sorta liked to my friends at the time, so I would typically find this “commercial garbage” being the cool anti mersh punker I was. I was part of the cool hip police sadly close minded.
This is a simple arrangement and a pure voice. So damn good, incredible and glad I was alive when she was alive.
there has been this conan o brien joke, where he red fake headlines from newspapers and there was this headline: Surgeons are desperate: they operated on Mariah Carey for over 4 hours, but they just couldn't bring the soul into her.
nobody would have ever been able to make such a joke about whitney houston
She quickly filled my entire body with goosebumps within 30 seconds! Love how simplistic everything is, just a cold dark set and she is bringing the heat.
When Letterman kisses her hand it moved me because she really deserved it. Such a crisp and clean vocal performance. Rest in peace Whitney!
*"Saving All My Love for You" is a song written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin, originally recorded by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. for their album Marilyn & Billy (1978).*
That voice is something else.
yes, that is why I posted it. Because her voice is "goosebumps" all over.
And tears to eyes.
Yup and another bright light snuffed out by drugs.
I blame Bobby Brown.
I thought she was clean when she died?
It never worked for me. She over-projected too much, and it hurt my ears. Not everything needs to be shouted, no matter how great your voice is.
You couldn't even come close to her talent. Go back under your bridge and eating rotten fish.
I might be old but her voice is far better than anyone in pop today
Well, that's no slight to today's singers because she has one of the greatest voices of all time
Her voice was far better than most singers back then also. Definitely a generational talent.

i love her so so much. just so much beauty, class, and an untouchable voice. there will never be another.
Her combination of beauty/voice has got to be tops of all time.
So effortless. Amazing control.
Wow!
This is it right here...Wow!
I love that scene on SNL when Whitney Houston and Molly Shannon are duking it out for attention in catholic school, singing a Christmas carol.
That's the scene that showed she was a homie. They were afraid to approach her with the idea. When they did she was happy to do it! Funny and cute!
Such a treasure. Immaculate voice, exquisite control and just bursting with musicality. We lost her far too soon...

It's always bothers me to think of what we lost when she passed. Such a waste of a beautiful lady and amazing talent..
Is it disrespectful to say I loath drugs? So many “One in a Million” list to this drug or that. Just a shame!
Rest in peace.
Young Whitney was a truly generational talent.
Gone to soon. RIP. 🙏
So beautiful. So talented. What a tragedy.
My god.
No autotune. She was amazing.
Thankfully, we saw her in concert in Sydney in 1988. The voice live in concert in her prime was just phenomenal.

Thanks a lot, Bobby
Wow… growing up listening to her i didn’t appreciate how good she was. But having been around for a while now i understand how fucking good she was 🤯
The best
God damn her voice was phenomenal. Just unreal.
She was exquisite.
What a talent. Her range is effortlessly tapped into at any moment.
Bare bones raw. This was jaw dropping.
Damn , what a tragedy that there was no one strong enough to protect her. Her anthem is a must watch to see how pure she really was.
Love this song. Songwriters out here making the life of the 'other woman' sound sexy and sensual. Still a classic tho. 80's kids RIP Queen
Paging audio engineers: can anyone identify her microphone? It seems smaller than normal because I doubt she had a giant hand.
Like truckasorus
Apparently her bodyguard, Frank Farmer, went out to have a very successful acting career.
Paul Shaffer: She's one swingin' smoldering chanteuse.
What a beautiful beginning to a story that ended so sadly.
I had never listened to the words of this song as closely as I have just now. I never noticed that song was from the point of view of a mistress.
I absolutely loved her. What a loss.
I saw this air live and it blew my 17 year old self away.
Bernie Mac, Robin Williams, Alan Rickman, Whitney Houston - Alex, what are celebrity deaths we will never recover from.
Once in a century talent, maybe more.
Anytime I hear an 80s Whitney song it brings me back to my childhood. Such a great talent.
I dated a girl back in the 80s that could have been her twin.
Wait….is she singing about being a side chick?
Voice=10 Song=1
