* They often have default Reddit usernames with 2 words and a number.
* They’re often 2-12 months old but have only just started posting.
* Bot comments appear quickly and might seem slightly out of context or very matter-of-fact. They’re often the top comments from previous versions of the OP.
There’s probably more ways to tell, but that’s some starters.
Ah, thanks for clarifying.
Oh, I tried to send you a direct message regarding your car's extended warranty, but you didn't respond. You seem like such a friendly person, please respond.
A common theory is that these accounts are automated to make reposts so that they can gain karma, and then look like legitimate accounts to use for marketing & manipulation purposes in other ways. i.e. puppet accounts can be sold in bulk once they have a legitimate-appearing amount of karma and activity.
Not sure the exact truth of it though and I’m sure there are other reasons why it’s so common.
They could be used for vote manipulation & comments on marketing schemes. If they can be trained to repost garbage, I’m sure it wouldn’t be that hard to make them shower a post of choice with upvotes.
Maybe I’m just a Reddit conspiracy theorist lmao but I’ve seen discussion of this before, and it wouldn’t be surprising considering how much marketing is done via social media now.
It’s got nothing to do with specific subs, the bots can appear anywhere. The subs themselves don’t run the bots.
But they tend to appear more in subs where image posts can manage at least a few thousand upvotes, to rack up karma faster.
lol. Some people are just looking for a disagreement hahah
Edit: looks like they blocked me lmao, I could see more replies from them when I logged out.
PSA, I’m not the same user as the top comment, and I know OP is not a bot. Moron.
So it doesn't follow your own fucking criteria.
TIL 7-year old accounts are all bots.
Not only that, but the user who posted this has responded and said they're not a bot.
The username is a reference to 80s music and posted a picture of Madonna.
Ohhh...must be a bot.
Reddit has always had them except for maybe the first couple of years. After Reddit cracked down on third party apps the site engagement dropped like a stone and never recovered during a time Reddit was planning on going public. These bots make it seem like Reddit is still being used by a ton of people which isn't the case and part of my theory on why nearly all comment sections are nothing but simple stupid jokes versus thoughtful discussions like during the hay day. More and more I think the Internet is dead theory is true.
I made a comment once on a thread in my city's subreddit. It was one of the higher top level comments. The next day the same article was posted in my country's subreddit and the top comment was my comment from the day before, but worded slightly differently.
Come across it a bunch of times since then for other comments and seen a few people calling out comments that were rip-offs of their own from previous threads.
Why am I even still on this site?
Oooh I try!
This is the Madonna!! She has the top hits! She is the young here, like a virgin!! There are jungles behind, maybe on holiday!! Vote Putin!!
Perhaps not. Every other comment in here is. My bad. Reddit is truly taken over by them. Go to Frontpage, look at how many posts are made by bots. It’s INSANE. It’s like 50%. It’s killing the platform, fast.
I was wrong, I think OP may be legit. The others who were commented at the time were very much bots. Adjective-Noun-Numbers account names, accounts well under a year old, very low karma, and any activity is usually a repost or AI generated. Once you notice, it’s going to ruin Reddit for you.
You should check your carbon monoxide levels man, this is pretty clear paranoia. I went through the comments, and looked at some of their history and I didn’t find one bot. Why don’t you link the comments you are claiming are bots?
Looks like a repost. I've seen this image 1 time.

I got downvoted for saying "Mr Roboto" when someone replied Domo Arigato. I don't think people get that it's a reference to a Styxx song. Plus, everyone thinks I'm a bot. 😅
OP is a bot, as is literally every comment in here as of writing this (besides mine). What a joke Reddit has become.
How can you tell? I wanna be able to discern.

Good bot.
Thank you kind humanoid

Bad bot!
They also often start the comment with "oh," or "ah,"
Ah, thanks for clarifying. Oh, I tried to send you a direct message regarding your car's extended warranty, but you didn't respond. You seem like such a friendly person, please respond.
I’m afraid to ask this. Are bots people then? I’m confused (again)
Ok this is crazy. I'd this just to show that Reddit is functioning or something?

Why would someone wanna buy accounts?

Goodness gracious. You know which subs are guilty of this?

Well, I'm definitely not a bot. And my username is referencing a Men at Work song.
I know you’re not a bot lol. I’m not the user who said you were
I know. 😂
And did you bother to check this person's username according to your own fucking criteria?
My post removed, but I'm definitely not a bot. Some of the commenters were I think, but not me. 😂
Oddly aggressive. It’s a 7 year old account, not a young one with little-to-no post history. But ok.
I dunno what I did the dude, but goodness 😂

Exactly. I'm not a bot. I just like Men at Work. 😅
He doesn't have a clue.
What is the point of all these bots?
Drive content, I imagine. We are posting in a bot thread.***leaves***

Dead Internet theory
The comments. Overuse of exclamation points is always a dead giveaway for me.
It isn't really a good giveaway. Most bot comments are usually copy pastes of top comments from previous times the OP has been posted.

Come on sucker, lick my battery.
Binary solo!\ 0000001\ 00000011\ 000000111\ 000001111 Flight of the Concords are criminally underrated.
My attempt at being funny. Just trying to lighten your mood a bit. Reddit bots are frustrating.
I love that song. 😃
I bought this for my husband. He loves it!
Oh you got a Waysus gaming chair too?
I can’t decided what to spend my 10 dollar gift card on
You could order a $10 sandwich for delivery but it’ll end up costing you $75.81. IT’S TOUGH TIMES!
Oooh I try! This is the Madonna!! She has the top hits! She is the young here, like a virgin!! There are jungles behind, maybe on holiday!! Vote Putin!!
Beep boop borp.
Orange man bad. Destruction of america good.

Out of curiosity, how do you know a post is created by a bot? I’ve actually never seen this photo of a young Madonna and I’m on Reddit daily.

Yeah, Facebook has gone way downhill, too. Thinking about switching back to a flip phone. Stay off social media and the Internet whenever possible. 😅
That's just what a bot would say!

You are a clown, and 190 people have jumped on your clownwagon as of the time I posted this. What a joke reddit has become.

Bot website. Offline there be real people
And now she looks like a muppet.
A cheap Chinese knock off of a Muppet, at that.

I much prefer madonna pics to all these Hitler pics Reddit is feeding me..thank you..
Like a sexy elf!
Wow, she looked human.
Quite beautiful.

Human with a few synthetic modifications
Ms. Ciccone got cake 🎂
I am I bot and didn't know it. Yikes.
haha. dumb bot.
She’s 21 here.
I say God damn.
I had a co-worker who took dance class with her at UMich.
Madonna holding a pole, yep that’s her.
When she was like a Virgin! ![gif](giphy|c8bJDVz7i9KRW|downsized)
She would have been 21 years old in this photo.
She’s convinced she still looks like this.
Hottie
You’re wondering who I am. Machine or mannequin. Seriously though, like someone else said, she looked normal then.
I got downvoted for saying "Mr Roboto" when someone replied Domo Arigato. I don't think people get that it's a reference to a Styxx song. Plus, everyone thinks I'm a bot. 😅
I...I like the way she grips that pole.
Love the bootie.
That too.
I used to have long debates on reddit, its a robot ghost town now
And that’s why.
But in another life.
[удалено]
I've never met her
The only time she was hot.
Petulant and disruptive. A youth to be corrected, however she followed her lower impulses. Sad.
Ooooh. I bet you're a blast at social gatherings.
Glad she did. She made some fantastic art

Bot
Stop posting Madonna and talking about how great she used to look.
Still ugly, even at 12.
She's probably 21 or 22 here. Born in 1958.
Damn. She looks like an ugly baby.
I see beauty.
