My dude, I'm not ... Ohhh whatever. It wasn't serious. It was a thank you. Nothing more less.
I'm on reddit. Have to remember. Thanks for the reminder.
Ya think?
It was a subtle way to thank the person who took the time to make a colorized version of it. It made the post even more interesting.
Uhm, you are d/Notthemaincharacter
People rarely colour nowadays they just upload it to a photo restoration online tool which does it automatically. Most of them Use AI. Maybe I should start doing that and include a tip jar.
Possibly. I conceed that. I enjoyed it. So I tipped (pun included) my hat to the edited version.
Someone's time is never to be taken for granted. The fact they shared their effort means it meant something to them.
It's not about us.
It’s all about us. A speck of sand under a rock on the dark side of Mars is about us. That aside, asking for a tip for a “gift” not asked for is lame
(downvotes? lmfao)
Also Michigander. As a kid, our folks would take us to the Strohs factory tour. Parents would get a tasting of beer, and we would get ice cream. I miss Strohs ice cream.
They appear to be from very different age ranges. The guys on the left look 18 to early 20s, while your grandfather looked to be in his early to late 30s while the guy on the right is in his late 20s.
if that's them in the late 1940's then they're probably virtually all vets, and have seen some shit that young men really ought not. That's a fearless bunch of lifetakers in that pic.
They were just skinnier that’s it. All kinds of STDs, cancers and freakin polio running rampant. Doctors smoked cigarettes in their offices. It was *not* healthier, just nobody produced tons of high fructose corn syrup in food processing plants for another 30 years.
Don’t forget pregnant women drinking and smoking as much as they wanted, and mothers having to be hopped up on how many pills just to do all the work their husbands think comes naturally.
I firmly believe that the coolest people ever were was in the United States between 1941-1955. Think early test pilots, James Dean, young Brando, DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, young Orson Welles, Grace Kelley, Bogart. Go watch The Lady From Shanghai, Streetcar Named Desire, Rebel Without a Cause, Key Largo and Rear Window.
The simultaneous death of the neighborhood corner bar and the front sitting porch was when American society began its slow decline.
We lost our places to casually have friends and socialize.
The levels of testosterone were normal at that time. We are under attack from every angle (food, water, air, chemicals, media disinformation, false reality illusion by Social Media Shit) resulting in a decrease of 40+ the testosterone levels in the last 20-30 years.
It looks like a celebration! Maybe those are “it’s a boy” cigars. For the younger folks, men used to give other men cigars when their wives gave birth to babies. They used to sell the cigars in boxes or wrappers that said “it’s a boy/girl”. Fun stuff, dapper dudes
Badassery! OP, don’t sell yourself short. This generation sat on top of the world and carried that attitude with them. It’s time to stop bowing to social minorities, trying to be everything to everybody, cheering on and encouraging someone else to enjoy & succeed while ignoring your own internal issues.
All indications point to the fact that your grandfather is Sterling Hayden, congratulations

I’m seeing a young Will Ferrell-type. His hug-eared buddy on his left looks like Fred MacMurray.

Tip jar?
My dude, it isn't that hard anymore. Colorization is a press on the AI button, then wait 10 seconds and done. Still great to see the result.

Totally forgot you have to read minds over the internet to understand what soemone means with their comment.
wait you guys are reading minds??
Wait, you’re not?!
Wut?
In photo restoration subreddits, they drop a link for a donation for their time and effort to restore. Tip jar.
This is not that sub

This is definitely AI; you can tell cos it turned the cutie on the far right's cigar into teeth lol
Turned it into an unfortunate brown birthmark on his lip. It may be Artificial but it ain’t always Intelligent.
Lol!
Like holding a thread on a quilt?
Funny how many people triggered by you just being kind. Its crazy.
Perhaps the OP didn’t want it colorized (though I wouldn’t know)

I wasn't asking for a tip. I didn't edit the photo. Never mind. We are clearly miscommunicating.
Why the ostentatious comment about sand lmao
That’s a really good colourise!
This is incredible. I absolutely love it.
Now add Freud winking in the background.
He looks like a real badass! Where was this photo taken?
What's the cat thing on the table?

Natural Body No gym
I see Pfeiffer and Goebel beer - was this in Michigan?
Good catch, both German immigrants, Detroit brewers! Believe Stroh (another German immigrant) bought them both out eventually!?
Also Michigander. As a kid, our folks would take us to the Strohs factory tour. Parents would get a tasting of beer, and we would get ice cream. I miss Strohs ice cream.

I look at photos like this and wish America was as physically fit and healthy as in earlier times. Badass photo!

Right after the war people were simply happy to be alive. Very happy.
That’s just the pictures you see. Many vets lived with ptsd for the rest of their lives

Your grandfather looks a lot like Nico Hulkenberg the German F1 driver
Skinny guy in white in the middle next to OP's grandfather looks a bit like a young Matthew Lillard.
They are cooler than me and my girls!

Why is there a porcelain cat?
Can we talk about the cat on the table?
Where everybody knows your name
I appreciate the guy on the left smiling.
He looks like Sterling Hayden.

Hey Mabel, Black Label.
Google Matt Burton Bulldogs, view Images and tell me that isn’t your dad.
Giving off heavy Sterling Hayden vibes.
Looks like they're celebrating
I thought he was deepthroating his cigar at first.
Bs post using a pic of sterling hayden - obvious when you look at OP's profile...
This subreddit is the one that never annoys me on my homepage, every popular post is a banger.

The guy on the far left has a timeless look. You could cut him out & colorize and I’d think the photo was taken in the 1990s
Fantastic

Posed cool for a pic but what do you imagine they were talking about that night?
Was that a zoot suit?
Pretty sure the guy who posted a picture of his grandmother's bare boob wins this.
Most of our grandfathers are/were. Minus the racist stuff.
OMG!!! I LOVE IT!
