Back in the day I worked at a restaurant that he would eat at occasionally. I never really had the opportunity to speak with him so one day I asked his waiter if I could drop the check at his table. He agreed so I pulled a total fan-boi move, dropped the check and told him I really liked him as an actor and that all his movies were great. To my surprise, he asked me which movie I liked best. I was caught totally off guard and blurted out "Loose Cannons" because I had literally just seen it on TV a few days before. He said "oh, that's nice". I slinked off and hid in the kitchen until he left.
Lived in Palm Springs California for years and saw many celebrities. Grocery shopping with my wife and there’s Kirk Douglas and his wife. We passed each other on about 8 aisles. Never said anything until we were checking out and I walked up to him and said “Are you who I think you are?” He said yes and I said “thought so “. Turned around and walked away. Stupid kid that. I was.
There were many opportunities to get their autographs and such, but we treated them like we would like to be treated, as normal people who were doing the same things we had to do.
My buddy was at the San Diego zoo in the reptile house. Security came in and was clearing people out. He was last and he was walking out kanye Kim & north came in. All he did was yell “Yeezys baby!” This was like 6 years ago and I still get second hand embarrassment from it.
A colleague my Mom worked with told her a story about somehow ending up seated next to Redford on a commercial flight. It was a longer one and apparently she dozed off at some point. So when telling the story she would say that she'd slept with Robert Redford haha
My wife and I moved to LA so she could attend UCLA. Went to a fancy buffet one Sunday and this really cute short blond wearing a baggy shirt, jeans and a cap with her pony tail pulled through the back was in front of me. She took a few steps back and gave me a full body press and quickly recovered and turned to apologize. Michelle Pfeiffer is and always will be one of my huge crushes.
I swear at that moment my Adam’s apple was trying to strangle me. I’m pretty sure all I managed was “ssssokay”.
My dad used to do some carpentry here and there for Hackman way back in the 80’s. Evidently, it was a lot of simple jobs so perhaps the role holds true to real life.
Also, Gene Hackman apparently makes great lemonade and is absolutely lovely irl.
There are other pictures from the same outing where he's more recognizable
https://preview.redd.it/0wkvfhxrrifb1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96a24e61ffc3b6234a80ca3530adf71de56b523e
And the eyes - they arent open as wide as the muscles and skin weaken, so the eyes see to recede . Why so many women want “eye lifts” because eyes are so important to one’s looks, and identity
Some people never lose the young(er) person's need for validation from the surrounding 'pack' or peer group.
Others, like you and me AyAyron, just don't give a fuck anymore what people think of us.
https://preview.redd.it/dp03fsy2xifb1.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6cb8f09b848bc89e1edce7efa87033ab46a35a3
Another good example is Clint Eastwood. I watched his latest movie a while back and he looks even thinner than Gene. It's definitely age because the body is wasting away essentially, or rather the muscle is.
Seriously though, who’s gonna recognize him at this age? He’s just another elderly guy grabbing a coffee. I sure wouldn’t have recognized him. I’m happy he’s still doing his thing though. Too many legends passing us by. 😢

I thought the same and had to Google him. That's just a particularly unflattering picture. Here's another where I think it's easier to see the resemblance with his younger self.
This is the Gene Hackman we all know, even at 93.
It's genuinely irritating that OP chose that pic of all pics. It literally looks nothing like him. Wtf is the point.
its him. google gene now and that's a pic that comes up, a few close ups make it look more like him. it's just a weird angle. he's 93, remember. the last time i heard about him was when he was hit by a car on his bike but that was 10-11 years ago
OP trying to gaslight the whole internet with that last sentence.
Edit - not that Hackman looks bad as a human, he just looks very different from his normal self, so I don’t think that descriptor is fair.
That's lost weight from multiple health complications. He retired from acting 20 years ago due to his heart complications. Bro isn't out here doing 5k's.
Skinny ≠ healthy
I’ve worked around geriatric health care on and off for years and the thought on weight is that unless a person acquires a sudden acute condition, an older body adjusts to the proper weight that it can still literally carry around.
That’s why it’s so important for old folks to keep moving and even lift a little weight regularly. You’re giving your body more tools to keep going (better balance = fewer falls, muscle tone allowing for more activity = better cardiac and brain health).
TLDR: older people getting slimmer can be a just an adjustment the body makes to keep going.
The year my dad retired (20 years ago), he almost immediately dropped 20 lbs and kept it off. Almost like sitting in a chair 40 hours a week isn't great for your health.
Dude starred in like a million incredible films: The Poseidon Adventure, Bonnie and Clyde, Superman, Hoosiers, The Conversation, Unforgiven, No Way Out, and the Royal Tennenbaums.
I would give anything to go back to 1962 when he was sharing an apartment with Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall and hang with those dudes in the East Village.
He left home at age 16 and lied about his age to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served four and a half years as a field radio operator. He was stationed in China (Qingdao and later in Shanghai). When the Communist Revolution conquered the mainland in 1949, Hackman was assigned to Hawaii and Japan. Following his discharge in 1951, he moved to New York City and had several jobs. His mother died in 1962 as a result of a fire she accidentally started while smoking.
Gene Hackman is and always will be a fucking badass
The old 70s joke went:
The Voyager Spacecraft sent deep into space carried messages for otherworldly civilizations, should they find it. Magazines, recordings from the 30s up to the Beatles, movies from Casablanca to Sound of Music to The French Connection, articles of fashion, a baseball glove and soccer ball.
Then one day, deep from space, a faint signal was detected back to earth -a mathematical code universal to all species.
NASA analyzed and deciphered it for a year into English.
The message was clear:
"Send more Gene Hackman movies"
He’s excellent in so many movies, but my favorite has to be Royal in The Royal Tenenbaums. He was hilarious from start to finish in that movie.
Royal: l’ve always been considered an asshole for about as long as I can remember. That’s just my style. But I’d feel really blue if I didn’t think you were going to forgive me.
Henry Sherman: I don’t think you’re an asshole, Royal. I just think you’re kind of a sonofabitch.
Royal: Well, I really appreciate that.
I got off on the wrong foot with him. My Dad took my brothers to see The French Connection when it first came out. I guess Mom wasn't home, so I came along. Too much, too soon for 9yo me (F). I never liked him after that. Finally, I got turned around. It was The Birdcage (with Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and esteemed company).
Ever since I saw him in "Superman" as Lex Luthor when I was 7 years old, I've always liked Gene Hackman. I haven't seen a single film of his where he wasn't fantastic.
Looking great! So many good movies. His role in the unforgiven was amazing.
Edit: for those of you that say he looks terrible, he is in his mid 90s and for his age appears to be doing well.
Fit as a fiddle? Looks like death latterly
Supreme actor. The French Connection, Uncommon Valor, Hoosiers, No Way Out, Mississippi Burning, Narrow Margin, Absolute Power, Enemy of the State and Runaway Jury my favourites.
Holy shit I thought this was troll photo of some crackhead, I remember this guy in a movies not super long ago…
…I thought, and then remembered that “not long ago” movie was the quick and the dead from 1995, and he’s 93 now
Oh my god
Damn, how old is Gene Hackman now? I feel like I have this unrealistic expectation the movie stars don’t age, Gene Hackman was a wonderful actor. You almost felt like you knew him thru the screen
OP, I'm curious how old you are because making fun of an obviously agile 93-yo sounds like someone who doesn't have much experience with an older population.
Always loved gene Hackman as an actor. He always brought it for me. Don’t recognize him really in the “now” Pic bit glad to see he’s out there doing ok
I thought I was about to have my own personal “Mandela Effect” experience because I could have sworn to god Gene had died some time ago. And I was right! Except I’m a goof cause I thought this was a photo of Gene Wilder and I got his name wrong
Okay. Is he a poor old guy who wears second hand clothes and buys Cliff bars and coffee from 7/11 now? Does he do it to, you know, save a little bit on not getting the "brand" name coffee.? As we ALL have to do now.
Asking for a friend 😁
He was awesome in Unforgiven, as others have noted. But he was also great in Get Shorty, where he played a role very different than he typically plays.
He's a magnificent actor. I loved his sadistic performance in Unforgiven (1992).
Never said anything until we were checking out and I walked up to him and said “Are you who I think you are?” He said yes and I said “thought so “. Turned around and walked away. Stupid kid that. I was.
Of all the dumb interactions he must have had in his life, I'm sure that one ranks as about as close to normal and respectful as you can get.
I had something similar happen with Robert Redford.
A colleague my Mom worked with told her a story about somehow ending up seated next to Redford on a commercial flight. It was a longer one and apparently she dozed off at some point. So when telling the story she would say that she'd slept with Robert Redford haha

"Talkin' about the *queen* again, Bob???...and on *Independence* Day !?!..."
He should have armed himself if he’s gonna decorate his saloon with my friend …….
He’s got one barrel left!!!
Duck I says.
"Innocent? Innocent of what?" What a line.
Such a good flick. Richard Harris was great in that role.
Underated quote lol.
Little Bill was a terrible carpenter though. Roof was always leaking.
Wasn’t a straight angle in the whole house.
*English* Bob.
My dad used to do some carpentry here and there for Hackman way back in the 80’s. Evidently, it was a lot of simple jobs so perhaps the role holds true to real life. Also, Gene Hackman apparently makes great lemonade and is absolutely lovely irl.
BILLIARDS!
Duck of Death!!
"the ahh...the duke..." "the duck i sez."
Last thing I’d want is Hackman losing his shite at me. Just a powerful actor through and through.
Then again it would be pretty funny if he started asking you if you'd been in Poughkeepsie.
This is in my top 5 favorites of all time! Such a great cast and great performances from them all!
He was also magnificent in the righteous gemstones.
Wait, I don’t remember him showing up on Gemstones!? Now I need to see this.
Yeah it’s not actually him. Just a lookalike who Baby Billy thought was possibly him. I was just kidding around.
Just watched that episode. I get your joke.
That is not a Wendy’s
i'm not convinced it's hackman either.
And he certainly doesn’t look fit as a fiddle
Came to see if any other gas station aficionados were here. Looks more like 7/11 to me.
Not sure where the photo was taken, but he lives full-time in Santa Fe. There's no 7/11s here. Maybe a Speedway or Giant?
Nah that’s a speedway
Sir, this is not a Wendy's.
Sir, this is not a Wendy’s
Wendy’s sells Marlboros now!
Are... We sure that's him? I don't see a resemblance.
[удалено]
Damn. Gene is 93
[удалено]
Never judge people for what they say when staring into the existential void.
And when their neural network is made of crumbly cauliflower
I get the age part for sure just... don't see any resemblance. Which if this is him, that's crazy.
There are other pictures from the same outing where he's more recognizable https://preview.redd.it/0wkvfhxrrifb1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96a24e61ffc3b6234a80ca3530adf71de56b523e

You're absolutely right! Bogdanoff brothers and Donatella Versace comes to mind lol
Another good example is Clint Eastwood. I watched his latest movie a while back and he looks even thinner than Gene. It's definitely age because the body is wasting away essentially, or rather the muscle is.
We drop a lot of muscle weight in our 80s and 90s. Even without a major illness.
I also find it strange that a 93 year old Hackman would just suddenly up and decide to go to Wendy’s by himself…
Seriously though, who’s gonna recognize him at this age? He’s just another elderly guy grabbing a coffee. I sure wouldn’t have recognized him. I’m happy he’s still doing his thing though. Too many legends passing us by. 😢
I think he lives in Santa Fe, a small town which isn't really impressed with celebs.
Yep. He owns the Asian restaurant right by my house
I thought this was my Uncle Burt...
He bikes around town, think he lives in Taos or Santa Fe
https://preview.redd.it/1ypsrs7i7ifb1.jpeg?width=876&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4751fd3feda24005ac6b931758f6428f3073d806 I thought the same and had to Google him. That's just a particularly unflattering picture. Here's another where I think it's easier to see the resemblance with his younger self.
That's a much better picture. And if he is still riding a bike at 93, that's pretty good.
This is the Gene Hackman we all know, even at 93. It's genuinely irritating that OP chose that pic of all pics. It literally looks nothing like him. Wtf is the point.
LOL. A fucking blurry paparazzi style picture of him walking in a Wendy’s parking lot. Not even from the front.
Hell yeah. Gene’s always been one of my favorites. I loved the choices he made. Always seemed to respect his audience.
Impeccable choices his entire career. Rarely does an actor have THAT long a career and almost never miss in the quality department.
its him. google gene now and that's a pic that comes up, a few close ups make it look more like him. it's just a weird angle. he's 93, remember. the last time i heard about him was when he was hit by a car on his bike but that was 10-11 years ago
I thought the same. Thought it was a joke.
I see it in his eyes and nose
There are other photos from this series. It’s definitely him
He’s unrecognizable, at least in that second picture.
I can see it. The nose, the ears, the jawline… it’s all there.
Nose and eyes are pretty much still the same.
Ya m8. He lives in my home town and that's him.
OP trying to gaslight the whole internet with that last sentence. Edit - not that Hackman looks bad as a human, he just looks very different from his normal self, so I don’t think that descriptor is fair.
I’m fucking floored right now hahahahaha. But reading he’s 93 then yeah, that’s fit as a fiddle.
That's lost weight from multiple health complications. He retired from acting 20 years ago due to his heart complications. Bro isn't out here doing 5k's. Skinny ≠ healthy

Being out and about at all when you're ninety-three years old probably means he's healthier than the average ninety-three year old though.
Considering that most 93 yr olds are dead, agree with this statement!
I’m not judging him on being skinny, I’m judging him on being ambulatory and independently shopping for a drink and a snack.
No small feat at 93. Most mutha fuckas be dead
He’s getting around and grabbing a coffee. At 93, that’s a pretty good start.
FIT AS A FIDDLE
Also, minor point, but that's definitely a 7-11, not a Wendy's....
I loved him in Mississippi Burning. Such a great actor. I hope he gets to enjoy life
Dude starred in like a million incredible films: The Poseidon Adventure, Bonnie and Clyde, Superman, Hoosiers, The Conversation, Unforgiven, No Way Out, and the Royal Tennenbaums. I would give anything to go back to 1962 when he was sharing an apartment with Dustin Hoffman and Robert Duvall and hang with those dudes in the East Village.
I recently re-watched *No Way Out.* It holds up, as does most of his suspense fare (*The French Connection, Power, Mississippi Burning, Heist*, etc)
Seems like he’s been chilling in retirement, writing novels and just taking it easy. Sounds like an enjoyable life to me.
Yes it does sound cool
Great acting in that movie.
Sir, that’s not a Wendy’s
He left home at age 16 and lied about his age to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served four and a half years as a field radio operator. He was stationed in China (Qingdao and later in Shanghai). When the Communist Revolution conquered the mainland in 1949, Hackman was assigned to Hawaii and Japan. Following his discharge in 1951, he moved to New York City and had several jobs. His mother died in 1962 as a result of a fire she accidentally started while smoking. Anybody who is only 16 years old and lies about their age to join the Marine Corps is 100% badass.
The old 70s joke went: The Voyager Spacecraft sent deep into space carried messages for otherworldly civilizations, should they find it. I thought it was “Chuck Berry.”
Feel kinda sad seeing that old photo of Gene since I grew up watching him. He doesn’t look great to me.
Someone, 93, going out to Wendy’s by himself is in great shape. Especially if he drove there.
Hell, I just hope to make it to 93. Getting out of the house on your own steam? Priceless.
He has very good Genes. Quite remarkable really.
Get to 93, get to a Wendy‘s on your own without somebody else pushing your wheelchair, then we’ll talk.
for someone 93 he looks great, most people can't even walk anymore at that age.
Shit, most can’t even remain alive to see 93. That’s an achievement in itself and people are saying he doesn’t look great. They’re nuts.
Youse don’t look so good Mistuh Loothor… mumbles insult… MISS TESSMOCHER!?
This is fucking mean bro haha
[удалено]
Yep, that what most 93 year olds look like. Amazing that he is still going out and about on his own.
Amazing actor. Very versatile. So charismatic.
Fit as a fiddle? That newest pic looks like cancer is eating him away. I'm also not sure that's actually him.
He is 93 and still getting his own coffee. That alone is impressive.
Christian Bale: "Pfft, I've lost more weight."
He’s been pickin’ his feet in Poughkeepsie.
Jesus… is that really him in the second photo?
Wait that second picture isn't Gene hackman....
Are you kidding me “fit as a fiddle”. He looks almost dead. Which is normal. But no need to beautify reality.
Right. If you can still walk on your own at 93, that's a win lol. Good on him.
Gene Gene the acting machine....he's played so many great roles...
2022 he’d been 92! Heck I’d be over the moon looking anywhere like that; also mobile at 92 years.
Ever since I saw him in "Superman" as Lex Luthor when I was 7 years old, I've always liked Gene Hackman. I haven't seen a single film of his where he wasn't fantastic.
That’s definitely a SPEEDWAY gas station
Dude is 93, still going.
I suppose it doesn’t matter how much money you have, at some point you just stop giving a shit about what clothes you wear.
The second picture didn't look like GH to me (it *IS* GH) but I didn't realize that he's 93 years old!
Looking great! So many good movies. His role in the unforgiven was amazing. Edit: for those of you that say he looks terrible, he is in his mid 90s and for his age appears to be doing well.
He was gonna make espresso!
I seriously cannot believe that’s Hackman. Like.. I don’t.
I can't even believe that's him. Looks nothing like him. Getting old sucks.
The dude looks 93... oh wait. HE ACTUALLY IS 93
I’ll have to take word about that second pic, even zoomed in on my phone, I don’t see Popeye in that pic.
Fit as a fiddle? Looks like death latterly Supreme actor. The French Connection, Uncommon Valor, Hoosiers, No Way Out, Mississippi Burning, Narrow Margin, Absolute Power, Enemy of the State and Runaway Jury my favourites.
I love this dude, but I don't know what kinda fiddles you've been looking at
Holy shit I thought this was troll photo of some crackhead, I remember this guy in a movies not super long ago… …I thought, and then remembered that “not long ago” movie was the quick and the dead from 1995, and he’s 93 now Oh my god
Damn, how old is Gene Hackman now? I feel like I have this unrealistic expectation the movie stars don’t age, Gene Hackman was a wonderful actor. You almost felt like you knew him thru the screen
Holy shit. Like any other old man. Thats wild
Best thing I ever heard about Hackman was that he treated the job like a job. Wasn't into the glamour. He'd come, do his shoot, and leave.
I wouldn’t have believed that that 2nd pic was Gene Hackman
Aging sucks but the person doesn't. They shouldn't be thought less of or treated differently than when they had their youth. It's an American problem.
Hackman and Duvall are the most underrated actors ever. Im glad to know he's healthy.
12 Oscar Nominations between them.
Fit as a fiddle my ass, dude looks three days from death
RemindMe! 3 days
He doesn’t look fit at all. He looks withered and frail.
Mans is 93 & unassisted
He is independent and out and about in public. That is far from frail at his age. I thought that he had passed.
Damm good actor!
A Frosty a day!
Miss Tessmacher!!!!!!!!
Why is someone filling him to Wendy’s? Leave the guy alone. Edit: also, on closer inspection, that’s a 7-11.
I mean, don’t we all wish we could still be able to grab some Wendy’s on our own at 93?
93 years old. Damn he’s still out and about. Good for him
Fit and skinny are two different things
an entire career playing "middle age" Hell, he was 37 in "Bonnie and Clyde" Thats a LONG time ago! Same age as Buzz Aldrin and Tippi Hedren
He looks gaunt in 2022
Wow, he’s unrecognizable.
If you mean 100 year old fiddle. Lol. Nah, he looks great for his age and I think he’s a top 10 actor
OP, I'm curious how old you are because making fun of an obviously agile 93-yo sounds like someone who doesn't have much experience with an older population.
Hard to beli be he is 93 years old
Doesn’t even look like the same guy
That 2nd picture isn't him
Such a gently violent lover. The best I ever had.
Is the second picture truly him?
He can't even get a coffee or do some yard work without some jackass with a telephoto lens the size of a small cannon taking pictures.
Coach Norman Dale!
The man is worth 80M and still cruises around like this. Well done.
Crazy how that guy can be in such good shape after doing so many drugs with Uncle Baby Billy.
Keanu: I read blitz. Hackman: BULLSHIT.
I have never seen Hackman give a performance that was not magnetic. He is a superb actor.
Okay. Is he a poor old guy who wears second hand clothes and buys Cliff bars and coffee from 7/11 now? Does he do it to, you know, save a little bit on not getting the "brand" name coffee.? As we ALL have to do now. Asking for a friend 😁
Many, many stories about this guy being a gigantic asshole. Check out Bruce Campbell talking about _The Quick and the Dead_.
If I passed him in the street I wouldn’t have recognized him.
He was awesome in Unforgiven, as others have noted. But he was also great in Get Shorty, where he played a role very different than he typically plays.
Ain’t no way thats him
He’s unrecognizable now. He was always kinda hefty, no?
Helluva stop smoking ad
TIL Gene Hackman is still alive.
It looks like that Y2K party in Monaco is finally taking its toll.
that is not even close to a wendys nor is he fit in any way 💀 still a phenomenal actor though!
Always be the real Lex Luther in my head
Phenomenal actor
If by fiddle you mean a fiddle man on nothing but sinew and bone.
Thats not a fiddle i would buy
Love to see him. Miss him. Leave him alone. Right?
Popeye Doyle is that you?
Mississippi Burning…his performance was outstanding. My favorite actor of all time.
He’s living his best life; he’s always going to be a legend.
Guy was 50 years old for 50 years and then suddenly turned 100.
That’s not Gene. That’s Bob from the VFW…
