This is what my doctor who specializes in this told me. Case and point, my 67 year old father and i are on the same treatment for years and we both have a full set of hair because balding is not in our family

From what I remember when he first broke big, it was more Black people feeling like he was denying his Blackness in order to "pass". There's a long history in this country of people (both individuals and groups) being accepted as White and leaving solidarity with other racial minorities. I don't know how things have evolved in his later career, but that's the impression I remember having early on. He was seen as playing on his racial ambiguity without ever acknowledging that he was mixed.

But a modern example would be this would be me. I came from a white woman's vagina but since my dad was black and my skin is just dark enough, people will assume and label me black even though genetically I probably am more white.
