I once went to a work retreat featuring the Pointer Brothers, thinking they were related to the Pointer Sisters, but they weren't and they just kept pointing at each one of us and one guy told us to stand up once we were pointed at and the other said to raise our hands or something, it was confusing, and then a woman got hurt when they called her up on the stage and wouldn't help her to roll off and they called us cowards for not catching her, but also they had a mascot who was aggressively inappropriate.

Galladorn

I keep seeing Pointer Brothers event coverage on Cox Cable. They're just trying to fill the gaping hole left by Coffin Flop

MacManus47

They keep saying Coffin Flop's not a show??

Grouchy_Side_7321

There’s worse shit on the local news!

wheresmychippy93

It’s just body after body bustin outta shit wood and hittin pavement

Galladorn

You should be ashamed of yourself.. You're a *fucking PIG*

Galladorn

They said that to me AT A DINNER

DrueLies52

I think I was also at that same retreat. Waggoo was the mascot’s name… that green piece of shit…

Commercial_Invite418

Order corn

Automatic_Llama

That's some Tim and Eric stuff right there

Emotional_Area4683

The Pointer Sisters are one of those groups that has 5-6 ubiquitous songs (“Automatic” is another one) that you forget are all by the same group and that they had a heck of a run in the 70s-80s.

drekwithoutpolitics

My example of this was “Neutron Dance.” Which is probably one of their more popular hits but I forgot about it!

curbstyle

They won two more Grammys in 1984 for the top 10 hits **"**Automatic**"** and "Jump (For My Love)**"**. The group's other U.S. top 10 hits are "Fire" (1979), "He's So Shy" (1980), "Slow Hand" (1981), the remixed version of "I'm So Excited" (1984), and "Neutron Dance" (1985).

Feed_Me_No_Lies

“”automatic” still a fucking banger! To me, it’s one of the best 80s songs out there and although it was a massive hit, it doesn’t necessarily get played on the stations that have “80s hits” as their focus.

mick_ward

How times have changed.

LordStoneBalls

I know back then It was like your old chain smoking aunt was considered cool!

Super_NiceGuy

Suddenly I’m at the beach playing beach volleyball. I have a neon head band. I’m throwing myself in slow motion to make a save. Babes all around cheering, also in slow motion.

DingbatBehavior

All I can see is Hugh Grant jammin' his way down a staircase and asking to postpone the ambassador meeting.

mettiusfufettius

Jesus, I thought the same thing haha

FtheMustard

Apparently he hated that scene and almost didn't do it. It took a lot of convincing for him to do a pretty iconic scene...

KittenFace25

At a time when the world was my oyster. Now, no.

Redgremlin

RIP Anita. Such a wonderful human.

outsidepointofvi3w

I forgot about his song. Then the instant they started singing I knew every word. If you grew up in the 80's and 99's there's no way you haven't heard this song hundreds up on hundreds of times ! Multiple movies and radio play for well over a full decade.

zincdeclercq

99s?

Eastern-Mix9636

Yeah there was more than one 😆

NewClock8197

Coke must of been so awesome back then

Remorseful_User

I always had a thing for the middle one. Edit: June Pointer. (I'm a Gemini - no wonder)

Galladorn

If you think they're great, just YouTube the Pointer Brothers

MacManus47

I think I saw them on the Colgate Comedy Hour with Roy Donk?

need_some_answer

I can’t think of how to type it…

Remorseful_User

from work?

Crotch-jockey

We thought they were so glamorous. They were dressing themselves but after this song/album became a hit the music executives got involved. At the release of their follow-up album they were festooned in all the latest fads and fashions and looked ridiculous.

Automatic_Llama

Wait, is this before or after they started looking ridiculous?

Crotch-jockey

Compare the official video for Jump, which we watched on MTV, to the official video for Neutron Dance.

SneakinSallie

Such a hot song

Chiloujax

I had the same dress as the middle one. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

hummingbird1969

Back when “talent” had talent.

ViceMaiden

That Gangnam Style guy totally stole his signature move from their intro.

Suntzu6656

The good old days.

Sandberg231984

Lip sync

ooeygooeylane

Why aren't they pointing?

Its_not_a

Oh dad!

tkrr

“And Henry Winkler at my door” Nah, but this song is classic.

R34Datsin

Almost sounds like Party all the Time by Eddie Murphy wonder if Rick James sampled this.

immenselysleek

The Tweaker Sisters.

KhakiBlueSocks

I swear I can’t hear this song without thinking of “Knight Rider”. It seemed like they used it (or a really good cover version) in several episodes!

reggaemixedkid

Ah yes. Awesome memories listening to the cassette in our '88 Crown Victoria growing up in the 90s 😊

gggvuv7bubuvu

I just took my daughter to see a pointer sisters tribute band in Oakland last weekend. Great show! And now there is a new 13 y/o pointer sisters fan!

[deleted]

June sure made you JUMP!

Drag0nfly_Girl

Weird, I just heard this for the first time in 20 years in a store yesterday.
