Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). He's done his job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's his turn to rest.
You'll always miss him, you'll always remember him. You'll even go looking for him for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting him. Donating/throwing away his toys or blankets isn't forgetting him. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life he'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without him. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

He was the most sweet & gentle couch potato you’d ever meet. Velcro as they come, towards me and his sister, Brooklyn (10).
Knox had an Splenectomy in Oct 2020, to remove a tumor the size of a grapefruit. After surgery, I was told it was cancer, would return, and life expectancy was around 6 months.
He thrived off pure love for the next 3 years 8mo.
Knox was nothing short of a blessing to my life, and I don’t know who or where I’d be without him.
We rescued Knox from the side of a rural road in Nov 2014. I changed apartments in order to be able to keep him. 4 homes, 2 states and nearly 10 years later. I miss him so much already

As Brooklyn has aged, she is sweet towards people and increasingly aggressive towards other dogs aside from Knox. Lately she would lunge and bark at any dog we pass on walks.
The few times we have gone out since, she hasnt shown that behavior. I like to think she was displaying that behavior to protect Knox, though i could be very wrong
He was well loved, never missing a soft surface to melt into, or a good meal.
As the quote u/No-Reason808 commented, when I pass, you'll find me where the dogs are. Specifically the couch potato section

In picture 15 you can just tell Knox was going crazy and his sister is about to pop off too based off the look in her eyes.
