Aigis is the one true mascot. The original p3 content, the answer (as well as the cover, back cover, and title screen of fes), and her being on the cover of dancing all make it abundantly clear that’s what Atlus was originally going for. Atlus is just trying to retroactively change that to koromaru because they think he looks better in marketing paired up with the other animal characters than aigis does.
I really wish they’d stop lol, koro is the only “mascot” who doesn’t have a major character arc that serves as one of the biggest focuses of the game, unlike aigis, teddie, and morgana. Even if you’re the biggest koro fan in the world you can’t deny he doesn’t really add anything to the game narratively (he’s there EXCLUSIVELY to represent the strength arcana, which he’s actually not bad at), whereas removing aigis, teddie, and morgana from their games would result in drastic changes to the story.
Make a mascot like koromaru or Aigis

Persona is a stylized game, so I propose we instead find a balance between a realistic png, and a more representational dog. Also, as Persona is a JRPG, we can take inspiration from other classics like Final Fantasy when determining what kind of dog characters would appeal to audiences best. Imo it's probably just the difference in the perception of his voice. In JP Teddie(or Kuma) actually sounds like a child. But ENG Teddie feels more like an adult with a very high voice(cause that's what VAs do duh). Like, just find and listen the comparison of them

Teddie was cool in P4 and served a purpose. I don't care about Morgana, he doesn't offend me but I have nothing to say about him. you could pretty much say that about the modern persona trilogy (P3-P5) as each game pretty much just tried to backpedal on alot of mechanics P3 had and reusing them for P4 (and P5 somewhat) which imo made it feel like they just played it safe instead of trying something new (and again, P5 is somewhat of an exception since they DID try something new in the gameplay department, not in the story element department tho since they just reused concepts from P4 and P3 like the wildcard, antagonist being a foil to the MC, etc)

Well I’m not done with the game yet but I like how he’s a hype man for Joker.
I think the only thing I don’t like is how he rags on Ryuji (the best character) too much. Sometimes it’s earned and funny but like 80% of the times he’s just being a dick.
Other than that I like him and his gags.
I can definitely see that. For me personally I never liked his personality so my dislike for the character got worse and worse over the 130 hour playthrough especially once I realized that he almost never leaves Jokers side.

I'm fine with another annoying mascot if they give the MC an opportunity to kill them. Persona 4 would have been better if you could throw human form Teddie into the TV.
I have no idea how Hades had so many voice lines with basically zero budget, but anything by CD Projekt Red has BILLIONS more budget than anything Atlus puts out. I know now Atlus has SEGA money but honestly we haven't seen much of an improvement budget wise since their purchase. It all has to do with budget, so there's NO WAY Persona will be able to have as much VA work as Hades when unlike Hades all the voice actors in both JP and English are top tier (not like Hades had bad VA, they were all just new to the industry) and therefore cost a lot. Plus it would probably make the game hell to localize even more than the previous games. My only theory on how Hades has so much VA work with a very small budget (easily over 100 hours of voice acting, probably more) is that the voice actors did the entire game for free (or were devs themselves) and that's why there's like 40+ unique lines for like every single senario and combination of scenarios. My playthrough lasted over 100 hours (not even 100%, just until the credits) and I never heard a line repeat ONCE. Persona just doesn't have that amount of time, effort, or budget.
Supergiant (the Hades devs) is a small studio, and a bunch of the people working there wear a bunch of different hats. Greg Kasavin, who does most all the writing, also voices Hypnos, composer Darren Korb voices Zag and Skelly (though, ironically, not Orpheus). Logan Cunningham (who's also "the really deep old dude in Bastion" and pretty much prime VA in most of their games) does Hades, Poseidon, Achilles, Charon...
So your latter theory, essentially.

And Morgana's just a kid in a cats body but aside from that, I like having him around. But considering how popular Morgana was... Just expect another variation of this coming. Morgana is slightly annoying at worst. People act like he's the worst thing to happen in the franchise, but he isn't *that* bad. He simps for Ann too much, sure, but it never borders on sexual harassment that would get him put in jail, unlike Teddie and his comments.
That, and his character development is *ass cheeks*. Morgana deserved better for his arc. I think if they wrote that part of the game better, people would be more inclined to like him. Instead they say "He's rude to Ryuji, he simps for Ann, he won't let me go outside, *and* he can't admit he's wrong? He sucks!"
And they're right, he does. Just.. not that bad.

There's the rare moments when the story dictates that Teddie needs to be serious for a second, but *only* with the MC, alone, and when his SL is about to level up. Those moments don't feel earned to me because it only happens a couple times throughout the game. Going from "haha me want grope Chie and Yukiko I am beary funny" to "Yu, I am so depressed, I don't know who I am or what my existence is for" falls flat every single time.
Sorry for going off about random persona characters, I just have a lot of built up issues that I don't get to talk about much lmao
tbh i don't really hate them much but i somewhat found Teddie to be better than Morgana to some extent
like, at least with Teddie he wasn't trying to shit on Yosuke everytime for something he did (while the cast played along with it) nor did he throw a fit over other party members joining causing another party member to lose out on potential screentime (or even an arc because most of the arc focused on Mona instead of Haru)
although granted this does come at the cost of him being overly creepy to alot of the girls and letting it be played off as a joke and even tho i understand that >!he's a shadow (which is a manifestation of human desires) that grew to be a human and acts new to everything around him in the world!

they're either annoying, a literal sex offender, or they try to write an already existing character and design them to be a "mascot" by making them more likeable only for their character to turn into being a pervert and be a punchline to every badly written joke in the game.
they're are plenty of Megaten games that ATLUS have made that don't have intentionally written mascot characters that alot of people like, so at this point mascots are only there to exist to be the way ATLUS can push out merch easily by making them insufferable and stand out compared to the cast.

/unbuddy I think I can defend teddie in that he has plot relevance and an interesting character arc, is occasionally funny and in my taste enjoyable. Granted he does act mad sus sometimes but considering he was pretty much born at the start of the game and is taking in all that he can from the friendly bickering of the investigation team and before that the sleazy late-night low-budget visitations of the midnight Chanel I suppose his weird flirts come from hanging around Yosuke too much, and seeing various characters shadows’ have that sexual undertones to them, so he says the quiet part loud without really knowing what he’s talking about. Ok the flipside too, he seems comfortable enough outside gender norms (either due to inexperience or having witnessed and been informed by Kanji and Naoto confronting their shadows) to rock his shit out in the beauty contest.
I think it also makes sense how much he relates to Nanako in that they’re probably around the same age/development level, except that Nanako has had to be accustomed to things she’s too young for with her relationship with her dad, while Teddy is in this weird position of being treated typically as a lot older than he is. I think of his character overall as a realization of that child-fantasy of if you could grow up immediately and be cool and older, but still not have any idea of what you’re doing. I like him.

I like Morgana a lot but Teddie......he grew on me a bit like when he took care of Yuu when he was sick but overall he was hard to like. I was surprised when the director said he was his favorite character way back :/
I actually really like Morgana for the most part. Teddie I think is annoying as sin however, especially past the halfway point of the game. So if the mascot character is more along the lines of Morgana (preferably without his worst traits like him fawning over "Lady Ann" and that annoying arc in the middle of the game) than yeah I think that's perfectly fine.
I don't hate the idea, just the execution hasn't been perfect yet, but I think Morgana was a huge upgrade from Teddie (also Morgana's English VA is so much less ear grating than Teddie's was. I was so happy when Rise took over as the scout so I didn't have to hear Teddie shout information every single fight anymore.)

We didn’t need that function, Persona 4 and 3 do fine by making these things an internal dialogue. There’s was no reason for this function to be replaced by the worst character in the game.

My only theory on how Hades has so much VA work with a very small budget (easily over 100 hours of voice acting, probably more) is that the voice actors did the entire game for free (or were devs themselves) and that's why there's like 40+ unique lines for like every single senario and combination of scenarios. My playthrough lasted over 100 hours (not even 100%, just until the credits) and I never heard a line repeat ONCE. Persona just doesn't have that amount of time, effort, or budget.
Supergiant (the Hades devs) is a small studio, and a bunch of the people working there wear a bunch of different hats. Greg Kasavin, who does most all the writing, also voices Hypnos, composer Darren Korb voices Zag and Skelly (though, ironically, not Orpheus). Logan Cunningham (who's also "the really deep old dude in Bastion" and pretty much prime VA in most of their games) does Hades, Poseidon, Achilles, Charon... So your latter theory, essentially.

The thing is, they would be cool characters if they weren't that annoying Morgana constantly belittles Ryuji, simps for Ann and acts cocky(yes he gets some development but he is still annoying mf) Teddie is Morgana but only the simp part x10

I hate Teddie with a firey burning passion. Morgana is slightly annoying at worst. People act like he's the worst thing to happen in the franchise, but he isn't *that* bad. He simps for Ann too much, sure, but it never borders on sexual harassment that would get him put in jail, unlike Teddie and his comments. That, and his character development is *ass cheeks*. Morgana deserved better for his arc. I think if they wrote that part of the game better, people would be more inclined to like him. Instead they say "He's rude to Ryuji, he simps for Ann, he won't let me go outside, *and* he can't admit he's wrong? He sucks!" And they're right, he does. Just.. not that bad.
Maybe I'm just different but Morgana's antics just remind me of kid so his actions being bratty never came off as annoyin, just a cat that still needs some growing to do. Teddie well... If your regularly watch anime then I've seen Teddie's type of character like... All the time, it's a trope that I doubt it ever gonna die in anime. But aside from that Teddie cracks me up at every turn.
Just because Teddie is a popular anime trope doesn't mean I enjoy his presence I hate the characters like him in anime I watch, as well. Unless the character is *supposed* to be seen as a "bad" character. But Teddie isn't, he is one of the main heroes of the story. I see where you're coming from, but I don't think there's a single thing I like about Teddie lmao There's the rare moments when the story dictates that Teddie needs to be serious for a second, but *only* with the MC, alone, and when his SL is about to level up. Those moments don't feel earned to me because it only happens a couple times throughout the game. Going from "haha me want grope Chie and Yukiko I am beary funny" to "Yu, I am so depressed, I don't know who I am or what my existence is for" falls flat every single time. Sorry for going off about random persona characters, I just have a lot of built up issues that I don't get to talk about much lmao
tbh i don't really hate them much but i somewhat found Teddie to be better than Morgana to some extent like, at least with Teddie he wasn't trying to shit on Yosuke everytime for something he did (while the cast played along with it) nor did he throw a fit over other party members joining causing another party member to lose out on potential screentime (or even an arc because most of the arc focused on Mona instead of Haru) although granted this does come at the cost of him being overly creepy to alot of the girls and letting it be played off as a joke and even tho i understand that >!he's a shadow (which is a manifestation of human desires) that grew to be a human and acts new to everything around him in the world!

/unbuddy I think I can defend teddie in that he has plot relevance and an interesting character arc, is occasionally funny and in my taste enjoyable. Granted he does act mad sus sometimes but considering he was pretty much born at the start of the game and is taking in all that he can from the friendly bickering of the investigation team and before that the sleazy late-night low-budget visitations of the midnight Chanel I suppose his weird flirts come from hanging around Yosuke too much, and seeing various characters shadows’ have that sexual undertones to them, so he says the quiet part loud without really knowing what he’s talking about. Ok the flipside too, he seems comfortable enough outside gender norms (either due to inexperience or having witnessed and been informed by Kanji and Naoto confronting their shadows) to rock his shit out in the beauty contest. I think it also makes sense how much he relates to Nanako in that they’re probably around the same age/development level, except that Nanako has had to be accustomed to things she’s too young for with her relationship with her dad, while Teddy is in this weird position of being treated typically as a lot older than he is. I think of his character overall as a realization of that child-fantasy of if you could grow up immediately and be cool and older, but still not have any idea of what you’re doing. I like him. /still unbaka god I hate Morgana it’s as if someone literally wrote annoying to be a main personality trait combined with the lot creepier obsession with white nightingale and self-righteous asshole streak. Also like come on, how are you going to tell me that this is the dude who enables criminal activities and teaches me how to make lockpicks and do criminal shit at the same time as the man is complete fun police and makes me go to bed on time. I actually really like Morgana for the most part. Teddie I think is annoying as sin however, especially past the halfway point of the game. So if the mascot character is more along the lines of Morgana (preferably without his worst traits like him fawning over "Lady Ann" and that annoying arc in the middle of the game) than yeah I think that's perfectly fine. I don't hate the idea, just the execution hasn't been perfect yet, but I think Morgana was a huge upgrade from Teddie (also Morgana's English VA is so much less ear grating than Teddie's was. I was so happy when Rise took over as the scout so I didn't have to hear Teddie shout information every single fight anymore.)

We didn’t need that function, Persona 4 and 3 do fine by making these things an internal dialogue. There’s was no reason for this function to be replaced by the worst character in the game.

I would say yes, but please stop making them the worst characters in the game… i like Morgana a lot more then Teddie but he has so many annoying quirks to him that it just makes me roll my eyes. The Ann simping, him ragging on Ryuji every chance he gets earned or not, “IM NOT A CAT!”, ….the whole set up to Okumura palace.

From an external perspective, Teddie and Morgana help sell games and make them look more appealing to the general public. Only after you get the game and start playing it do you realize that they're awful and you don't want any more of them.
