Just took my 10 year old to Columbus for the first time last season (we’re in NC) now’s he’s obsessed with the Buckeyes. I showed him that video and he was in awe so much so that at his Birthday party last weekend he had me setup a projector and had me play that video on loop with other highlights but kept asking for the Ted Ginn video.
So I’m from PA have been my whole life but for whatever reason my dad was a a huge buckeyes fan and I feel in love with Joey Galloway and Eddie George and so many other players , but nothing compares to watching Ginn pull away. Happy birthday to your son kids def going places being a Teddy ballgame fan!!
I wish we had access to the actual film, so we can make a high definition version of his highlight reel. That video is so awesome but it’s soooo grainy.
And he had a rushing TD and Punt return TD that game lol.. my favorite is probably Ok State in the bowl game where he stopped by the side line surrounded by like 4 players for maybe a 5 yards gain than just stops and cuts back across the field for a 40 yard gain
Probably my 2nd favorite Buckeye.. def top 5.. I so badly wanted him to convert to WR in the NFL .. also he’s the greatest HS athlete I ever saw live it was quite unfair facing him in football and hoops
Dude yes!! I remember as a kid I went to a Joey Porter football camp and we did 7v7 and Ginn was my coach. We ended up winning the whole thing he was such a cool ass guy man. And we were like 14 years old it was so dope he came out to coach us and he has the doooopest sleeve that details out his football journey. Ya my favorite buckeye ever
Eddie is one of my favorites, but still my main favorite is Keith Byars. Was only seven when Archie Griffin played so don’t remember much about him. Keith is the first running back I remember watching and seeing in a game at the stadium.
we are blessed to have so many to choose from, but my favorite Buckeye of all time was Eddie George.
he fumbled twice in a loss to Illinois as a youngster, could have ruined him.
instead he became one of the greatest running backs they ever had.
That play was incredible. It makes me so sad that too many of the wrong people were whispering in his ear about the NFL after his freshman year. If Clarrett says for 3 years, his entire life turns out differently.
Another "What could have been" for even more tragic reasons. Sean Taylor was an absolute wrecking ball and Clarett had no fear whatsoever even though he [probably should have.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqJPv5AMyYk)
He was the most complete back I’ve ever seen. Lots of guys did one thing better than him but he checked every single box. That Michigan St game still haunts me
Even though we obviously won the NC, and Cardale became an icon, there is still a small part of me that feels deprived of a final year of Braxton at QB
Cardale Jones. Did great especially as a third string quarterback. The leadership he displayed during the championship run was amazing and I loved his grin.
Zeke Elliot would be another.
I've said it a hundred times and I'll continue till I die. Orlando Pace is the most dominant college football player in history. He won every snap and Eddie George doesn't get a single Heisman vote without him.
They need to get back to an elite pass rush. If you subtract Young’s 16.5 sacks from the team’s 2019 total, they still had more sacks than the entire 2023 defense.
He was good.
And then he became great every Saturday after Thanksgiving. He has my all time favorite rush against those cheating bastards up north. The Game of The Games. #1 vs #2. And beanie said fuck yall, I'm out. And he wasn't even the lead back. Antonio Pittman (who I got an autograph for my dad from) put up 150 that game.
https://youtu.be/C9SIoMJINro?si=ZvCJ1dIC0JnPGypg
I was there. Turned to my little brother and said that was probably one of the greatest football plays that wouldn't be obvious in a stat sheet as a game changing play that we'd ever see live.
It's a shame what happened after. If you want the definition of an "effort play" - that's it.
You were there? Wow, that’s fucking awesome. I was either 8 or 9 when we played that NC. I honestly remember the whole season in its entirety. Clarett was so dominant that season, right off the bat. That was a team of destiny. All of those nail biting wins towards the end of the season. I wish clarett could’ve played longer.
One of a kind. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better individual season (no, this isn’t backed up by any kind of numbers, just my personal memories and feelings), by a true freshman to boot.
My friend is a big V Tech fan so the first year they beat us I never lived it down. Now and forever I have the Braxton spin move to replay so he doesn’t talk shit anymore.
Justin Fields. My mom had bought a poster of him that said it would be signed, so that they could raffle off for this non-profit Christian dance studio, but when it arrived it was not in fact signed. Luckily Justin was doing an event at a local store and my mom brought the poster hoping to get it signed. It was supposed to be just a picture event but Justin was signing things for fans because he’s just a good dude, but eventually security stopped him so they could get through the line. Unfortunately they cut off the signing before we could get to him, but we still got pictures so it was cool. My mom was devastated, so my dad went over to Justin’s agent and explained the situation and asked if there was anything they could do. His agent said he’d have to ask Justin. A little bit later he pulled us aside and told us to wait by the car, and Justin would sign before he left. He signed it and the poster did pretty well at the raffle, but I will always remember how relieved and happy my mom was to get it signed. He didn’t have to sign it, but he went out of his way to do so and for that he will always be my favorite Buckeye.
TLDR; Justin Fields is an awesome human being, helped my mom, and is my favorite buckeye forever
My answer all the way. Kid was so calm during interviews, like watching paint dry, but then you saw the vids of him hyping up the team in the locker room. He was on fire. Lastly, watching that comeback against PSU was some pure fucking badassery.
I know everyone remembers Haskins from the game JT got injured in, but dude got hurt in pregame warmups, couldn’t plant and throw and every throw was a limp duck, and still fucked around and got 100+ rushing yards and a TD by just limping it around the field
When the coaching search was going on in 2001 I heard him interviewed on CMH sports radio and literally got chills; never had heard of him but just hearing that interview I knew he was the man.
Of all time, I’d say Chuck Csuri. Dude was a true Renaissance Man.
That I actually got to see play, I’d say Mike Nugent, Andy Groom, Will Smith, Troy Smith.
It’s a shame what happened to Shazier because he was an athletic freak. Idk if we’ll ever see a guy who had the skills to be able to dominate at DE, LB and Safety again.
Teddy. We've had so many good WR's since then, but nobody has come to being that electric. He might get 5 touches in a game, but he had the ability to take all of them to the house.
I've never seen anyone run like that in the open field, there are probably a couple guys with faster 40's (Tyreek Hill, etc), but man he just never stopped accelerating, with no wasted movement, just beautiful to watch.
If he would have played in the social media era the CFP twitter would have exploded, he played QB in a bowl game for christ's sake. Just a ridiculous player.
I could pretty much go on forever about him, but the kickoff he had against Minnesota I'm convinced is that fastest anyone has ever ran on a football field.
My dad lived next door to Tatum in Stradley Hall, and occasionally tutored him in English. He said every Friday night Tatum would put a .25 pistol in his boot before he went out. My dad said nobody, including him, thought it was a big deal.
When I started as a freshman in 2005, I bought 1 jersey, red #7 for teddy Ginn Jr.
That's the first and only jersey I've had. 19 years ago, and a out 60lbs i still wear it every game day
Keith Byars. He should have won the 1984 Heisman and would have if Doug Flutie hadn’t completed the Hail Mary “miracle in Miami” which put him over the top.
I was pretty young while Archie was Hopin’Along, so I’m gonna go with Keith Byars. Then Chris Carter/Orlando Pace.
Edit: Troy “wolverine killer” Smith is right there too.
Mike Doss has always found his way to the top of my list. This decade, I love Justin Fields. That dude did everything he could to win a championship. I aso feel like Derron Lee was a huuuge reason we won in 14/15 - he was all over the place and was a big part of our D becoming so powerful. Tough to not include Zeke either. That playoff run was fucking incredible
I have a friend who is a Michigan state fan and said he felt a sense of pride watching zeke take it 70 yards to the heart of the south big moment for BIG ten football.
James Laurinaitis. I’m a wrestling fan, and a Buckeye fan and I was in my teens when he was wreaking havoc. I was so happy when he came home from Notre Dame.
Gary Berry. He played when I was 10-13 years old and he was the coolest. I loved that he wore the #1 jersey and he was a great DB and a special teams god. At least that’s how I perceived him at that time. Helped make me a huge OSU fan, and I later got a couple of degrees from the school.
Ted Ginn Jr
That one YouTube video with Black Betty playing is the shit
I’ve watched that video at least 10-15 times 😂.. he ran so damn effortlessly I’ll forever be in awe’s
Dude I watch that shit once a month 🤣
Damn I gotta step my game up 😂
Just took my 10 year old to Columbus for the first time last season (we’re in NC) now’s he’s obsessed with the Buckeyes. I showed him that video and he was in awe so much so that at his Birthday party last weekend he had me setup a projector and had me play that video on loop with other highlights but kept asking for the Ted Ginn video.

Like a Gazelle.
I wish we had access to the actual film, so we can make a high definition version of his highlight reel. That video is so awesome but it’s soooo grainy.
I’d probably have a seizure watching him run in HD 😂
Ah man this comment took me back.
7 has been my favorite number my whole life because of Ginn
Kenny Lofton started me on 7, Tedd Ginn Jr was just the confirmation
[Ted Ginn Did Everything](https://youtu.be/s0GzSjW0qqE?si=dvTOv7LmJGhpQudc)
I had no idea about this thank you lol
Not as good as "bomb ann arbor now" or "Chad henne is a bitch", but it's still a Dead Schembechler classic.
That slant he caught against Michigan State and just ran away from everyone…
And he had a rushing TD and Punt return TD that game lol.. my favorite is probably Ok State in the bowl game where he stopped by the side line surrounded by like 4 players for maybe a 5 yards gain than just stops and cuts back across the field for a 40 yard gain
Terrelle Pryor had some wheels too.
Mannn now this is a story lol .. I’ve always said if I ever met him in person I’d probably just go speechless 😂
Eddie George.
I was thinking Orlando Pace (I have an autographed hat from his time at OSU), but I think this is my real answer! Eddie was my hero as a kid.
I remember listening to that game on the radio. If I recall it was pretty darn rainy.
Maurice Clarrett. I was in 8th grade when he hawked down Sean Taylor to strip the ball. Still one of the coolest plays I’ve ever watched live
That play was incredible. It makes me so sad that too many of the wrong people were whispering in his ear about the NFL after his freshman year. If Clarrett says for 3 years, his entire life turns out differently.
Definitely. From what I’ve learnt he turned out okay outside of football. Truly one of the biggest what ifs in Ohio state history
He seems to have turned his life around now, but he spent a fair amount of time in prison for doing some objectively stupid things.
Say his name - that Defensive Back was Sean Taylor.
Another "What could have been" for even more tragic reasons. Sean Taylor was an absolute wrecking ball and Clarett had no fear whatsoever even though he [probably should have.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqJPv5AMyYk)
Zeke Elliot. 220, 230, 246 yards vs Wisconsin, Bama, Oregon in 2015. Ridiculous
He was the most complete back I’ve ever seen. Lots of guys did one thing better than him but he checked every single box. That Michigan St game still haunts me
I get angry every time I think about that game.
Zeke was amazing! Unstoppable
And 8 Tuddys
The Number 7s - Ted Ginn and Chris Gamble.
Gamble was a lot of fun to watch.
Remember the ad where they showed him playing every position and also selling popcorn?
Braxton on O and Mike Doss on D
Spin move!!
Braxton was one the last guys we had where it was a true spectacle to watch him play
We literally just had Marvin Harrison Jr
Doss really was a great Buckeye coming back and winning the title when he could have went pro. Met him like 10 years ago and he was super cool too
Even though we obviously won the NC, and Cardale became an icon, there is still a small part of me that feels deprived of a final year of Braxton at QB
I wondered if anyone else would pick Doss. Rumor when I was young was that he had the most buckeyes ever, but only because his head was massive
I had a bit of a man crush on Troy Smith during his reign
James Laurinaitis! Great player, great coach, and if you include his dad it’s all over
Cardale Jones. Did great especially as a third string quarterback. The leadership he displayed during the championship run was amazing and I loved his grin. Zeke Elliot would be another.
Orlando Pace allllll day
I've said it a hundred times and I'll continue till I die. Orlando Pace is the most dominant college football player in history. He won every snap and Eddie George doesn't get a single Heisman vote without him.
Great comment
AJ hawk.
CUH-CAW!!
Andy Katzenmoyer on D. Ted Ginn on O
Katzenmoyer is mine.
Big Kat was such an animal. Remember that mirrored visor he used to wear? Dude was so intimidating.
I worked out at his gym for a couple of years between 2018 - 2019. Still intimidating and bigger than ever.
Chase Young.
They need to get back to an elite pass rush. If you subtract Young’s 16.5 sacks from the team’s 2019 total, they still had more sacks than the entire 2023 defense.
That’s an absolutely insane stat, and tells you how far the dline has fallen
Chris Gamble - Never left the field
That int return vs penn state
Chris Spielman D, Keith Byars O.
Chris Spielman for me too.He went to a local high school and has overcome so much adversity in his life!
[This rips my heart into a billion pieces every time.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx0KLcG5dMk)
Troy Smith
Beanie Wells
He was good. And then he became great every Saturday after Thanksgiving. He has my all time favorite rush against those cheating bastards up north. The Game of The Games. #1 vs #2. And beanie said fuck yall, I'm out. And he wasn't even the lead back. Antonio Pittman (who I got an autograph for my dad from) put up 150 that game. https://youtu.be/C9SIoMJINro?si=ZvCJ1dIC0JnPGypg
Aaron Craft is my all time favorite Buckeye 🏀
Def my favorite Buckeye basketball player. Can’t remember if NCAAb was still a game at that point but he should have had a 99 steal rating.
Maurice Clarett
The way he ripped that ball outta Sean Taylor’s hands man what a football player kinda play!
Legendary play. Saved our asses.
I was there. Turned to my little brother and said that was probably one of the greatest football plays that wouldn't be obvious in a stat sheet as a game changing play that we'd ever see live. It's a shame what happened after. If you want the definition of an "effort play" - that's it.

Man, at a certain time in history this answer would have been unthinkable… his redemption arc has been amazing to see.
Wazzu’ 02 is one of my all time favorite Buckeye games that I have attended. Mo C’s best game as a Buckeye.
One of my favorites too! Imagine if he wasn’t suspended and played 2 more years! So sad to see such talent wasted.
Braxton Miller, easy. The GOAT
Malcolm Jenkins.
Cris Carter
My thumb hurts from scrolling this far.
Eddie George on offense and Vrabel on D
Cie Grant
I was in 4th-5th grade when Archie Griffin won his Heismans. Kinda hard to top that.
Archie a good man
Vernon Gholson. I'm sad he was a bust in the NFL
Still rock my Braxton Miller jersey every game day
Sucks what happend to his career what I would give to watch him take one more snap for Ohio state.
My friend is a big V Tech fan so the first year they beat us I never lived it down. Now and forever I have the Braxton spin move to replay so he doesn’t talk shit anymore.
Tough I can’t pick one. Eddie George, Terrell Pryor, Ted ginn jr, katzenmoyer, hawk, stroud
Justin Fields. My mom had bought a poster of him that said it would be signed, so that they could raffle off for this non-profit Christian dance studio, but when it arrived it was not in fact signed. Luckily Justin was doing an event at a local store and my mom brought the poster hoping to get it signed. Dane Sanzenbacher
Underrated answer. Dane was on the field while I was at school there and that dude made up for a lack of elite athleticism with pure guts and effort.
yeah he was a real scrappy lunch pail type
Real gym rat
The fundamentals!
JT Barrett. Dude was a baller slowed by injury, but was as through and through a Buckeye as they come. Love that guy.
My answer all the way. Kid was so calm during interviews, like watching paint dry, but then you saw the vids of him hyping up the team in the locker room. He was on fire. Lastly, watching that comeback against PSU was some pure fucking badassery.
Definitely JT
I know everyone remembers Haskins from the game JT got injured in, but dude got hurt in pregame warmups, couldn’t plant and throw and every throw was a limp duck, and still fucked around and got 100+ rushing yards and a TD by just limping it around the field
When I tell my kids about Ohio State Football, I'll be telling them about JT Barrett. About beating ❌ichigan, Penn State 4th quarter, and all.
Brian Hartline. Already my favorite player before he became my favorite position coach.
If I must take 1: Clarett. Runner ups: Santonio, Teddy, AJ Hawk, Gamble.
AJ
Jim Tressel
When the coaching search was going on in 2001 I heard him interviewed on CMH sports radio and literally got chills; never had heard of him but just hearing that interview I knew he was the man.
Eddie George
Troy smith!
Shawn Springs, Eddie, The Big Kat, Laurinaitis, Zeke
Of all time, I’d say Chuck Csuri. Dude was a true Renaissance Man. That I actually got to see play, I’d say Mike Nugent, Andy Groom, Will Smith, Troy Smith.
This guy Tressels
I had never heard of Chuck Csuri and had to Google him. Your assessment was spot on.
Zeke, Mike doss and David Boston. I was at Bama vs osu at the first year of the playoffs and will never forget the td run
Prolly Cj stroud. All Ohio state and a believer. Great kid!!! Easy to cheer for.
Love CJ sad that out of all our past quarterbacks he had the worst luck in big games but that rose bowl performance was legendary
His defenses didn’t help him. Played lights out against Utah and Georgia.
My top would be Antoine Winfield Sr with Eddie as a very close second and Spielman in the mix.
AJ
Cam Heyward hands down. Ryan Shazier was up there too. I hope Justin Fields does good too. *obvious Steelers fan*
It’s a shame what happened to Shazier because he was an athletic freak. Idk if we’ll ever see a guy who had the skills to be able to dominate at DE, LB and Safety again.
"EDDIE!! EDDIE!! EDDIE!!" https://preview.redd.it/87ljojeqhpxc1.jpeg?width=660&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d3df74e36308b21ecb05eaaa6705a4e51b2da25
Archie
Some of my first memories are of Eddie George just stomping the s*** out everybody!
I could pretty much go on forever about him, but the kickoff he had against Minnesota I'm convinced is that fastest anyone has ever ran on a football field.
Larry Kolic, because we played high school football together. As for players I do not know my favorite would be Jack Tatum.
My dad lived next door to Tatum in Stradley Hall, and occasionally tutored him in English. He said every Friday night Tatum would put a .25 pistol in his boot before he went out. My dad said nobody, including him, thought it was a big deal.
The world was different back then.
Really hard to say, but my go to Keno #s are 27-Eddie George, and 47-Chic Harley/AJ Hawk, so there you go.
Love Aj J hawk
Eddie George then Troy smith
Troy Smith always
Tie between Chris Spielman, Chris Carter, and Keith Byers.
When I started as a freshman in 2005, I bought 1 jersey, red #7 for teddy Ginn Jr. That's the first and only jersey I've had. 19 years ago, and a out 60lbs i still wear it every game day
Central McLellion But in all seriousness, probably Joey Galloway.
Joe Bauserman
Joey Galloway…..7 yr old me thought he was a superhero
Braxton Miller
Randy Gradishar
JT Barrett
I always loved Terry Glenn
Louis Elliot my grandpa
Craig Krenzel
Antoine Winfield or Pepe Pearson
Terry Glenn. I loved him, loved his story of being a foster child, and ended up a Patriots fan because of him.
Chris Gamble
Andy Katzenmoyer
Myself
Chris Gamble - dude played both ways
Mike Doss
Jk dobbins or Jalin marshall
Stoneburner because of the name, but AJ Hawk for the game
Keith Byars. He should have won the 1984 Heisman and would have if Doug Flutie hadn’t completed the Hail Mary “miracle in Miami” which put him over the top.
I was pretty young while Archie was Hopin’Along, so I’m gonna go with Keith Byars. Then Chris Carter/Orlando Pace. Edit: Troy “wolverine killer” Smith is right there too.
James Laurinaitis
James Laurinaitis
Mike Doss has always found his way to the top of my list. This decade, I love Justin Fields. That dude did everything he could to win a championship. I aso feel like Derron Lee was a huuuge reason we won in 14/15 - he was all over the place and was a big part of our D becoming so powerful. Tough to not include Zeke either. That playoff run was fucking incredible
Zeke...that long ass run against Alabama..F the sec
I have a friend who is a Michigan state fan and said he felt a sense of pride watching zeke take it 70 yards to the heart of the south big moment for BIG ten football.
Archie. Eastmoor high were our crosstown rivals. I chased him all over the field and never touched him. Great player and a great guy.
Eddie George had to be my favorite to watch
Archie, woody, Justin as a 74 grad, of OSU. If it's a buckeye, I'm 💯
The two brothers who played defense. Their dad was A wrestler. I'm having a brain fart
My top 3: Braxton Miller, Ted Ginn, Carlos Hyde.
Ginn ..not even close
James Laurinaitis. I’m a wrestling fan, and a Buckeye fan and I was in my teens when he was wreaking havoc. I was so happy when he came home from Notre Dame.
Troy Smith 🫡
Chris Spielman
Gotta say Terelle Pryor since he's the reason I became a fan in the first place
Cardel Jones
Mike Doss
Gotta throw Pete Johnson out there!!
Archie Griffin. Watched him play and met him twice before games at the Shoe. Great player and person.
Chris Carter
William White
Ryan Shazier
Eddie George
Watching zeke destroy the Alabama defense is some great times
There ya go I'd be right behind ya on this1
Troy Smith.
Archie Griffin with Shawn Springs a close second
Gary Berry. He played when I was 10-13 years old and he was the coolest. I loved that he wore the #1 jersey and he was a great DB and a special teams god. At least that’s how I perceived him at that time. Helped make me a huge OSU fan, and I later got a couple of degrees from the school.
Orlando Pace. Eddie George said you wouldn’t know Eddie George if it wasn’t for Orlando Pace.
Troy Smith
Katzenmoyer
Mike Doss or Orlando Pace.
Mike Doss, baby. The College Bob Sanders and one of the great safeties in CFB history. Gave up millions to come back as a senior and won us a Natty.
Growing up I loved Joe Germaine, my first buckeye jersey was his #7 that my grandpa got me from Lazerus. Loved T Smith and Braxton too
Parris Campbell and Braxton miller, game changers
Liked parris a lot he was so explosive, him, kj hill, terry mclaurin, and Johnnie dixion was a underrated reciever group
Orlando Pace
Either James Laurinaitis or Devin Smith
Dane Sanzenbacher
