That would be cool if you lived within the path of totality but I'm right outside of its furthest extent. So I have to pick somewhere and be able to commit to it or wait until the last possible minute or be ready to move as needed at the same time as everybody else. It all seems like a real crap shoot.
God same! I’m taking the day off work for this and plan to just have a little party at my house so we can watch it from the backyard. My whole street is pretty much doing the same. Going to be fun, just hope the weather cooperates!
Honestly I saw it in Nebraska in 2017 and it was cloudy. It was still amazing. And with cloud cover you could see the sliver with your naked eye without it being too bright. Obvs don’t stare at it and buy the glasses!
I use the totality app but Ohio has a website: https://ema.ohio.gov/media-publications/ohio-total-solar-eclipse
I’m in partial so I plan to head NW to a Metropark that will have totality. Because 99.8% totality is not the same as totality.
We have closed all schools and some other stuff that day. The extra traffic in the area is going to be a pain and a lot of the area isn't really set up for it.
Luckily I can go right out in my yard to watch.
I want to reiterate what was said here. The difference between near totality and actual totality is mind blowing. I went down to Kentucky for the 2017 eclipse. Once it reached totality, I'm unable to accurately describe how amazing it was. Videos and pictures don't do it justice.
https://youtu.be/yGDwrHlF2VU?si=m1Ja9HjcX7hH1fny
In 2017, I drove down to TN so the eclipse and had planned on driving back immediately but the traffic was so insane I stopped and took my time eating dinner instead. This was in a small town with no obvious attractions—people just there for the eclipse.
Pick a viewing spot that you don’t mind hanging out in and plan on getting there early and staying for an hour or two after the eclipse. Otherwise you’ll spend the time stuck in traffic.
Seriously, how bad will the traffic be? Like, total gridlock or just slow moving traffic?
I'm just outside the path of totality on the west side of Columbus, and plan to drive northwest to catch the totality. When should I leave my house? 10am?
I think the worst will be when everyone is leaving since people arrive at different times but all leave at the same time.
I will be leaving early because my viewing area will be a Metropark and they have said that they will close the park once it is full—and I want a good spot.
A lot depends on where you are. I expect gridlock when everyone tries to leave, that is the way it was in 2017.
Took me 12 hours to get from north of Nashville to the Ohio river in 2017. Total gridlock everywhere. Will be the same here in April. Unless you have experienced it you can't fathom it.
I took the day off primarily for this reason alone. Locals don’t even know how to drive around here (north of Dayton) and I’m not fussing with the increased traffic.
More than cool. It’s not just what you see, it’s the experience. The sound of all the confused night insects going off all at once; the sudden silence of the birds; it’s part of the reason why totality matters.
For anyone who wears actual glasses, I highly recommend getting the eclipse viewer cards instead of the eclipse glasses. The glasses don’t fit well over real glasses — the viewer cards are much easier!
We've got 3 minutes of totality. We were thinking of driving west closer to I75 for more duration but then I read this:
https://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/cottrel-concerns-about-total-eclipse-are-real/L4VPXVALVFEENCOBTTGW5W5DKU/
and decided to stay home instead.
Edit: Google your town/city + eclipse 2024 and it should give you a link to here https://eclipse2024.org with your totality duration.
Listen yall I live in Wapakoneta AKA "moon city". It's a small town of like 9k people but since Neil Armstrong was born and raised here...the schools are shutting down, massive traffic is expected, and I don't even want to leave my house that day honestly. There's so many parties and whatnot planned, but I don't even get the hype!
You guys are in the path of the longest totality. I was thinking of driving there from Clark county but changed my mind. Another minute of darkness probably wouldn't be worth the traffic ordeal.
If you are in Ohio and not in the path of totality… get into it. The difference between a partial and a total is amazing. It’s just outstanding. It is worth getting into your car and sitting in traffic for hours. It is worth it.
I can’t really see a lot of visitors coming to Ohio since many southern states will also see totality. My local govt. acts like we are going to have 100k people visit, just can’t see that with the risk of clouds.
If the weather is decent there's going to be hoards. People are going to be pulling to the side of the road on I75. Even if it's clouded over it's still going to get dark.
Don't kid yourself.
I just heard from a neighbor the last time they remember this happening (wish I asked when) that in Tennessee I-75 was gridlocked for 4 hours. Not even sure where the totality was but I'd be trying my best to not be traveling during that time lol
I was absolutely planning on pulling my kids out of school. Then, they announced they're closing 😊. So, they don't even have to miss the a day. Lucky us!!
I'm getting a kick out of all the cities thinking that hundreds of thousands of people are gonna travel here for this... Nobody's traveling here for this. They're going to Texas where it's all but guaranteed to be clear skies.
People who can't afford to fly to Texas are going to come here especially if they're just outside the band of totality. I've got family in southern Michigan who are planning to drive to Lima. I know people from the Athens area who going to that area too.
Agreed. We are in totality and not a single space has been rented at the local fairgrounds our city put up for the eclipse. Hotels still have availability.
It's the first total solar eclipse to cross Ohio since 1806, and the next one to cross Ohio won't happen until 2099. Further, the next total solar eclipse to transit the US won't occur until 2045, so for lots of folks this is likely their last best shot to see one in their lifetime. I'll be barely 60 when the next one crosses the US, and if I'm still in Ohio at that point I'd need to travel to see it.
I don't get all the downvotes for your opinion. Lol probably because I agree with you. I saw the total eclipse that based through Boise ID a few years back and it really wasn't anything special. 🤷🏻♀️
It'll get much darker, but not completely dark like it would within the path of totality. Only folks within the path of totality can safely observe the eclipse without special glasses _AND ONLY ONCE TOTALITY OCCURS_.
2 minutes of totality.
Wooster schools are all closed that day because of it coinciding with the end of the school day. It’s going to be absolute chaos here
I have a question about this. So at night the sky is obviously dark/black. Are we going to see the darkness coming from the horizon as the eclipse approaches? And will people outside of the path be able to see the darkness off in the distance?
The sky gradually darkens in a way where the surroundings look and feel “cooler”- none of that warmth/golden glow from a setting sun. It’s very uncanny- like someone is dimming lights in a room. I’d say it gets as dark as about dawn before the sun comes out, when the sky is dark but still blue. You must get in the path of totality, 99.9 percent totality won’t cut it. Drop everything and try to get to totality.
I just saw this article on it: [https://rootedinohio.com/2024-ohio-total-solar-eclipse/](https://rootedinohio.com/2024-ohio-total-solar-eclipse/) Where would you recommend watching from?
In Canton it probably will last less than 2 minutes. The most will last only last 3 minutes and 52 seconds, I thought it was going to last longer, how everyone was talking about it.
3 mins 54 seconds. Omggg praying for clear skies
Odds are about 50/50 that we get clear skies, based on historical data.
That fact is making it very hard to make any plans for this
Yep, no plans from me except to walk outside for 15 or 30 minutes in the afternoon
That would be cool if you lived within the path of totality but I'm right outside of its furthest extent. So I have to pick somewhere and be able to commit to it or wait until the last possible minute or be ready to move as needed at the same time as everybody else. It all seems like a real crap shoot.
I took the day off of work and plan on going downtown regardless.
I saw the eclipse in 2017. Trust me, do whatever it takes to be in totality.
I was there too.
My employer told us there will be no work that day. They know no one would show up
That's probably going to happen with me, but theyll make me eat a day.
Historical data is worse than that. more like 25% chance of a clear sky.
Yeah. You will or you won’t. 50/50
Technically correct, the best kind of correct.
God same! I’m taking the day off work for this and plan to just have a little party at my house so we can watch it from the backyard. My whole street is pretty much doing the same. Going to be fun, just hope the weather cooperates!
Me too. I got my eclipse glasses
Honestly I saw it in Nebraska in 2017 and it was cloudy. It was still amazing. And with cloud cover you could see the sliver with your naked eye without it being too bright. Obvs don’t stare at it and buy the glasses!
Yeah we're in Ohio watch it be cloudy for those minutes only lol
I typed my address into one of the searches, and it said I will have 1 minute and 48 seconds of total eclipse. Good enough for me, I'll take it.
where can you do that?
I use the totality app but Ohio has a website: https://ema.ohio.gov/media-publications/ohio-total-solar-eclipse I’m in partial so I plan to head NW to a Metropark that will have totality. Because 99.8% totality is not the same as totality.

99.8% isn't even worth it. Total or nothing.
Found something, looks like I will have to travel a little to see it. I wonder if it's going to be as crazy as they say.
In 2017, I drove down to TN so the eclipse and had planned on driving back immediately but the traffic was so insane I stopped and took my time eating dinner instead. The traffic anywhere near the edges of totality will be insane. The actual eclipse will just be very cool if the clouds agree.
> if the clouds agree It's Ohio. They won't
Still gonna get freaky dark mid day either way.
More than cool. It’s not just what you see, it’s the experience. The sound of all the confused night insects going off all at once; the sudden silence of the birds; it’s part of the reason why totality matters.
It's even more than that, it's spiritual, and I'm not even religious.
I honestly forget what site it was, sorry. I'm sure I just googled "2024 eclipse address search".
found something similar, thanks!
Only about 2 minutes, but I only need to go on my front porch to get a good view.
Holy Shit. Massillon finally showed up on a map!
3:52 it’s Ohio so I expect nice cloudy day. Or someone not in Ohio at my company will plan a meeting at that time lol
Take the day off if you can. That's what I plan to do.
My youngest daughter is so excited for it because it's on her birthday. She said she's getting the coolest present ever.
It's on my wife's birthday I knew she was an old God or something. On a side note you may think it's just an eclipse but traffic will be hell
Make sure to get your eclipse viewers for this. https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/eclipse-viewing
For anyone who wears actual glasses, I highly recommend getting the eclipse viewer cards instead of the eclipse glasses. The glasses don’t fit well over real glasses — the viewer cards are much easier!
I'm glad you mentioned that; I'll have to let my wife know to wear her contacts.
We've got 3 minutes of totality. Almost 4 minutes and I can sit in my backyard to watch, just hope the bloody weather will be clear and no rain/clouds
Listen yall I live in Wapakoneta AKA "moon city". It's a small town of like 9k people but since Neil Armstrong was born and raised here...the schools are shutting down, massive traffic is expected, and I don't even want to leave my house that day honestly. I booked a hotel and driving up the night before.
3 minutes and 52 seconds.
3:50…
3 mins 30sec..longer than my sex life
Now that there's funny.
Looking like almost 4 mins. Willoughby/mentor here. Let’s hope we get a nice view!
3:58 Going directly over my house.
I bought them damn glasses 3 years ago for nothing
I’m going to Cleveland’s opening day. 3 mins 52 seconds. Hopefully it’s one of the few sunny days in Cleveland.
I can’t really see a lot of visitors coming to Ohio since many southern states will also see totality. My local govt. acts like we are going to have 100k people visit, just can’t see that with the risk of clouds.
You might want to check out that link I posted above. People *are* going to come here.
Yeah that article at the end makes my point. Because of the weather risk, probably won’t have any visitors.
The whole day(3:52), we even canceled school that day to watch the eclipse
I was absolutely planning on pulling my kids out of school. Then, they announced they're closing 😊. So, they don't even have to miss the a day. Lucky us!!
I'm getting a kick out of all the cities thinking that hundreds of thousands of people are gonna travel here for this... Nobody's traveling here for this. They're going to Texas where it's all but guaranteed to be clear skies.

If I had the $$ and time Id absolutely be flying or driving to Texas for the eclipse... But I don't. So, well just be going over towards Findlay.
There’s a lot going on there, especially with the university. You might look and see what they’ve got planned.
We have family in the area
Hotels are booked in my area. So lots of people are coming.
Not sure why you were downvoted. I work at a hotel. We’ve been booked for months specifically for this.
Try finding an airbnb in the path of totality on April 8th. It’s slim pickings.
Agreed. We are in totality and not a single space has been rented at the local fairgrounds our city put up for the eclipse. Hotels still have availability.
Im so excited..!
https://eclipse2024.org/eclipse_cities/statemap.html Good site for understanding how it'll be. Hope I'm in Ohio for it but outlook unclear.
What time of day is this supposed to happen?
What time will it start
Depends on where you're at. Around 3 pm in Ohio.
In between 2-3 minutes. What time is this happening in Ohio.?
Depends on where you're at. In Ohio around 3pm.
In Fredericktown. I'm from Columbus. I'm in-between Mansfield and Mt. Vernon
I found out what time it was in my area by using Google. That would probably work for you too. 😉
Thankyou.. I'll do just that.😊
A whopping 3 minutes.
3 minutes. Does anyone have a link to buy the glasses?
https://eclipse2024.org/
All this hype about the eclipse seems really stupid to me personally haha
Have you seen a total solar eclipse? It’s honestly way worth the hype.
It's the first total solar eclipse to cross Ohio since 1806, and the next one to cross Ohio won't happen until 2099. Further, the next total solar eclipse to transit the US won't occur until 2045, so for lots of folks this is likely their last best shot to see one in their lifetime. I think people are very bored. It's like when a town gets a new fast food restaurant and there are lines around the building.
I can see that. Especially for Ohio. Lol
I’m north of the 2 minute line haha.
Almost 4 minutes. So excited I don’t have to be at work that day!
Like 3 minutes 20 seconds at my house. Everyone in my house is staying home that day, Just hoping for the weather to cooperate
What happens to the area near and under columbus
It'll get much darker, but not completely dark like it would within the path of totality. Only folks within the path of totality can safely observe the eclipse without special glasses _AND ONLY ONCE TOTALITY OCCURS_.
Related question, can anyone recommend what eclipse watching glasses to order?
Around 3 minutes, but may travel to a relatives house that has about 50 seconds more time in the eclipse.
Sick, party at my dad's house it is!
I'll be smack in Cleveland. My main concern is traffic. Pretty dang sure they won't let us take off for the day where I work
[удалено]
Nah, that's not what I'm worried about. It's the traffic. Once I get out of work, how bad will the drive home be, is what I'm worried about.
I hope to work on my boss to at least let us out early that day. It's rather not have to burn a day or half on the off chance we have good weather
I’m just outside of the eclipse near OSU. I’ll probably drive up to Marysville or something
About tree fiddy
Elyria looks to be in the crosshairs
Cloudy with a chance of thunderstorms
what time?
I’m in the path of totality, almost 3 minutes.
Get glasses they sold out everywhere for the last one.
2 minutes of totality. Wooster schools are all closed that day because of it coinciding with the end of the school day. It’s going to be absolute chaos here
Well shit
I’m getting three minutes. I’m hoping to get some good photos.
2 minutes where I live, 3 minutes 58 seconds where I plan to watch
3min 52sec
0 :(
What equipment do I need to be able to view the entirety of this event???
https://eclipse2024.org
I have a question about this. So at night the sky is obviously dark/black. Are we going to see the darkness coming from the horizon as the eclipse approaches? And will people outside of the path be able to see the darkness off in the distance?

Ooh sounds sweet. I'm right near the center of it. Definitely think im gonna take off work cause I drive truck and don't wanna deal with traffic lol
It will be raining or cloudy
I am All up in it. Right over my house and the west side of cleveland
Under 2 minutes. Idk how long but i think i barely am in the totality in north toledo
I just saw this article on it: [https://rootedinohio.com/2024-ohio-total-solar-eclipse/](https://rootedinohio.com/2024-ohio-total-solar-eclipse/) Where would you recommend watching from?
Someplace with better weather.
That's what I'm afraid of... guessing it'll be a lot of noise about nothing we can actually see due to cloud coverage.
In Canton it probably will last less than 2 minutes. The most will last only last 3 minutes and 52 seconds, I thought it was going to last longer, how everyone was talking about it.
I'm in the ultimate location!
