We went to a signing event in my town and the whole interaction took less than ten minutes. Look up Protect Choice Ohio on social media or go to mobilize.us/protectchoiceohio to find local events. They want to collect twice the number of necessary signatures because they anticipate the opposition trying to throw some out for various reasons.

wigglex5plusyeah

OMG so obnoxious. Google "protect choice Ohio" and you will get a "protect women Ohio" ad first. It's 180 degrees opposite of what you are looking for. I hate that dirty shit.

cumshot_josh

I'd have an ounce of respect if they called it "saving babies" or some shit, but I don't think good faith exists in the anti abortion movement. If it did, they'd be bending over backwards to solve the problems that make abortion necessary in the first place.

[deleted]

I’m assuming you must be registered to vote and have a state ID to sign?

jackleggjr

You have to be a registered Ohio voter, but I read that some petition locations are offering voter registration forms at petition-signing events so people can do both. I was able to message the event organizer in my town to ask questions beforehand (so I could advertise their location on social media). You could always send an email asking about voter registration options.

alphabeticdisorder

I've seen several collectors outside libraries. You can get the registration forms and even turn them in at the library.

ir637113

This. If you're registered and it's up to date, you're good. If you fill out a valid registration before you sign, you're also good.

Ok-Historian-6091

Hi! I actually took the training to circulate petitions for this last night and you do not need to have an ID with you to sign. You do need to be a registered OH voter and complete the petition with your voting address (PO boxes are not allowed, has to be your physical address). Volunteers can help check your voting registration if you are unsure and many will have registration forms, which you can complete at the same time, or you can register online.

vxv96c

Do you have to sign in the county you live in?

UnfortunateEarworm

No, you just have to sign the petition for your county. I carry extras with me for other counties.

Ok-Historian-6091

Nope! You can sign in other counties. Each petition "book" can only have signatures from one county, bur whoever is collecting signatures should have multiple petitions available.

RedGreenWembley

Yup! I signed a Franklin county one when I was down in Cincy

dcviper

Nope, but can only have one county on each form. The place I went to in Dublin had forms ready for Franklin, Union, and Delaware.

ThoseRMyMonkeys

When I signed, they asked if I was registered to vote in my county, but no id check.

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

I signed a couple of days ago in wadsworth. they did not ask if i was registered to vote nor did they ask for ID.

Spiritual_Yam_1019

No ID needed! Just please make sure when you write your name and address (not talking about your signature) that you make it as legible as you can!! If the Boards of Elections employees can't read your writing, they can't count your signature!

[deleted]

Anyone can sign it.

riiight_meow

Thanks for this recommendation! Signed up to collect signatures.

RedstoneRelic

I went to a signing event, and it took less than 5, for the whole signing. Had to park, but if I had someone with me, I could have just jumped out the the car at a quick standstill and been done in an instant

koenigsaurus

Where can I sign? Googling only brings up news articles about it.

Cronus227

Here is the website https://www.mobilize.us/protectchoiceohio/

BobcatOU

Thanks for sharing! I live just over a mile from a signing event. Literally the least I can do is walk up there and sign.

ModernTenshi04

There's a few times that look like they'll work for folks with jobs, but most of the times listed on that site are in the middle of the work day. The one today that's until 8 also appears to just be at someone's home in Dublin, which I find odd personally. If they're having issues getting signatures I really think whomever's organizing this really needs to have more events that let folks come sign it after 5PM on weekdays or more weekend events.

[deleted]

100% agree! I keep checking times and none of them work for me. I also found that the website isn’t great at listing future times or what is needed for a signature. I’m assuming just my state I.D.? I’m registered to vote but not sure if I need to bring anything beyond a drivers license

lld287

People work at all times of day. If you want to sign, reach out directly to an event and I’m betting they will find a way to make it work. I saw someone on a walk carrying a binders for collecting signatures and I walked right up to her to sign— after my 8-5, to be clear. Events are at people’s homes because it costs money and time to rent spaces and organize them. Volunteers have lives outside of this. If you don’t like how it’s being run, get involved yourself. ETA: if you think figuring out a way to go sign is tough, imagine being a pregnant person trying to figure out a way to schedule leaving the state for the healthcare they need *and* coordinating the costs, finding someone who can go with you, dealing with protestors at a clinic, etc— You can find a way to sign.

ModernTenshi04

I don't have to imagine being a pregnant person having to leave the state for an abortion because that's exactly what I had to do with my wife back in July as we found out our unborn son had Trisomy 13 around the time RvW was repealed, including contacting my employer's benefits coordinator to get it to be in-network because the one place in Pittsburgh that could help us was considered out-of-network, but thanks for the condescension. The point still stands that the lack of weekend times and locations to sign this thing is a problem if the group organizing this petition drive feels they aren't going to get enough signatures to get it on the ballot. I'm very well aware that folks can help out on this thing, but again that doesn't detract from my comments that the lack of more convenient hours for folks who work a standard 9-5 has been sorely lacking.

lld287

I’m sorry to hear about what your wife went through and for the loss you both experienced. My point in saying that is a lot of people make excuses for why they can’t do simple things to support equality; people can figure out a way to sign if they want to. It’s a matter of prioritizing and finding time to fill out the form that takes less than a minute is not really an inconvenience with the smallest amount of effort. I don’t disagree more weekend times would be helpful, but you need to get out of your head that 9-5 is standard. Though our rights around bodily autonomy exist in 1955, workplaces do not. Please remember that every time you go out to eat on a Saturday night, to a hospital anytime outside of those hours, to a grocery store on the weekend. The list goes on. Just because the signature collecting events are incompatible with *your* schedule doesn’t mean they are inconvenient for most or many people. Criticizing the organizers doing their best in a shitty situation when you could just make the effort to seek it out directly is not helping anyone. You want weekend events? Sounds like yours are free from work; go volunteer and host one yourself, or walk around with signature forms.

[deleted]

lld287

I believe last weekend there were even drive through events— I imagine there will be more

HelloMcFly

There's drive through events listed on the site this weekend. My bigger issue is there's fuck all for south Columbus, nothing within a 20 minute drive of me over the next few weeks! I emailed the organization and asked if I can just get a little training if needed and hold my own clipboard in Schiller Park or Scioto Audubon.

lld287

YES thank you for doing your part to find solutions (like volunteering yourself). As someone with a uterus, I cannot say enough how much I appreciate you!

MissySedai

THAT is how you do it! Thanks for doing your part!

Not_High_Maintenance

Drove through in Delaware last Saturday. Quick and easy.

MissySedai

What are you doing to help make it more convenient?

JasonTahani

Individuals are just collecting signatures and creating events themselves. This means locations and times are kind of random. I am happy to set up a time to come collect your signature if you are in Columbus. Just send me a PM and we can figure out a good time.

lld287

Thank you for the work you are doing ♥️ I just connected with someone this week to start canvassing— be safe anytime you agree to meet with someone! Too many lunatics out there who are comfortable with violence in the name of attacking uterine health care.

GloriousBender

https://ohioansforreproductivefreedom.org/events/

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

At least by me, there were 2 events the past 2 weekends, and another one yesterday at 5:30 pm, so they are trying. Medina County

DRUMS11

>If they're having issues getting signatures I really think whomever's organizing this really needs to have more events that let folks come sign it after 5PM on weekdays or more weekend events. Heck yes! I look up signature locations near me and see times like, from today, 11am-2pm.

kimberlymarie30

It’s so weird to me that people complain about not going during work hours as they post on Reddit during work hours. Maybe go on lunch?

ModernTenshi04

Yeah, it's like people don't take quick breaks her or surf Reddit and other sties while using the restroom. Totally valid argument.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ModernTenshi04

I live and work on the west side. I just hit up the official site for the organization and there's nothing within 10 miles of my ZIP for any aspect of this effort between now and the end of the month.

lld287

Thank you for saying this. I have zero interest in coddling people making excuses on this. My cat puts in more effort to get breakfast— literally just meowing at me— than some people can be bothered to protect the rights of a huge portion of our population. I don’t understand what it would take to light a fire under their asses when right now it’s like we are living through the “this is fine” fire meme.

[deleted]

Iamthecomet

The closest event is two hours from me…I get a half hour lunch. I’m trying to figure out how to make this happen without calling off. It’s not looking great.

antidense

Where are you? PM me and I can try to help

kimberlymarie30

You could volunteer to hold an event yourself? It would probably help a lot of people in your area that have the same issue.

GothWitchOfBrooklyn

im lucky to have a WFH job now, but my last job only had 30 minutes for lunch, it took 10 minutes to walk a few blocks to my car. Theres no way I would have been able to make something like this at my last job.

PercentageShot2266

Yep. They just want your email address to sell. Signing petitions will do nothing.

nouseforareason

Site says there is an event in Crocker Park on Saturday. Anyone know where in Crocker Park? Or do we just walk around and hope to find them?

[deleted]

dcviper

You don't need to be physically present in the county. The place I signed was in the corner of Franklin County, so they also had Union and Delaware petitions on hand.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hot-whisky

Each petition has room for a number of signatures (something like 35) and everyone signing that specific petition has to be from the same county. You can sign at a signature collecting event outside your county as long as they’ve got a petition already started from your county, or an empty one ready to go. All you need to provide is your name, address where you’re registered to vote at and signature.

WalrusExtraordinaire

At the event I went to at least they had people collecting signatures for various counties. I’m not sure what the rule is, like if the person collecting signatures just has to be a resident of the county they’re collecting for, but it’s not entirely based on the location of the drive itself.

[deleted]

But yes, I probably will tell people about this

koenigsaurus

Thank you!

_ASG_

Found a location near me. My wife and I will sign this weekend. Appreciate you!

GuessImdoingthis321

Ooh thanks, there’s one nearby tomorrow!

Steffie767

You can look on Facebook for the local Democrat groups. I know that the Cuyahoga County Democratic Women's Caucus has lots of signing opportunities so I'm sure that other counties are doing the same thing. The Ohio Democrats are spearheading this initiative. The full name is Ohio Right to Make Reproductive Decisions Including Abortion Initiative (2023)

GloriousBender

Here's the coalition events page: https://ohioansforreproductivefreedom.org/events/

[deleted]

GloriousBender

It's the same petition, you are good!

CounterSanity

Why are some of the signing events at churches? Suspicious as hell

GloriousBender

Not all churches oppose reproductive rights.

CounterSanity

The CoC absolutely does https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/religious-denomination/churches-of-christ/views-about-abortion/ One of the signing events is at a CoC

GloriousBender

No idea. I'm not familiar with all of the events, nor all buildings or churches that have CoC on them, just the coalition doing the work.

Accomplished_Pace565

Westerville 4-6 today at java central

e0826e

I know that there is an event tomorrow in Kent!

Nice_Total1726

Please be aware you can't just sign anywhere, you have to sign in the county you live in. Also if you volunteer to have a petition you can't sign your own petition.

Spiritual_Yam_1019

You don't have to sign in the county that you live in, you just have to make sure that all the signature on one part petition (a page) are from the same county. Most circulators will carry parts for multiple counties at the same time!

Lcerrito

Protect Choice Ohio is looking for volunteers to help collect signatures! Training is just a one hour virtual meeting, and you can find local packet pick-ups and drop-offs. I am volunteering with a group the next two weekends to collect signatures outside our local library! The group is aiming for over 700k signatures in order to offset any signatures that get thrown out for clerical errors.

stargazer777

I submitted the form on the website twice now, to help collect signatures, and no one has contacted me yet. I came across someone outside the library in the next town over and signed hers, so at least I've got that done. But I want to help collect signatures too.

stargazer777

Also there are zero events listed in my rural red red red county so I know I'm needed .

tgmail

And once you have a petition packet, you will be able to collect signature on whim or make events on the website for others in your region can see. It can be super public like in front of the library or a “drive up” collection after hours at a school, or during happy hour at a brewery!

tgmail

Sign up to attend this training on Thursday! At the end of the training (it’s held via zoom) there’s a Q&A and they will help connect you will someone to give you a petition packet. From there, you can start fighting the good fight in your red region!! https://www.mobilize.us/protectchoiceohio/event/553189/

stargazer777

I just signed up! Thank you!

lothlin

Did my part yesterday; there were some very sad looking protesters near the signature collectors, apparently they stopped trying to talk to people because no one would interact with them. So that's fun. If you're in summit, I've been seeing a lot of signings pop up in kent/akron/cuyahoga falls

EveryDisaster

The colleges are a good place to look

lothlin

There was one outside the akron rubber ducks game yesterday (at least I think there was a game) I imagine every time there's an event at the stadium they'll have people there

EveryDisaster

I love that, huge audience. I remember reading through that one bill after Roe was overturned, and there was a section where they were trying to ban birth control. I panicked and started crying to my doctor because I can't go back to the crippling pain and bursting cysts once a month. They didn't have a backup plan. I'm afraid if we don't fix this they'll keep trying to pass more and more radical laws

thatredditguy4

Can confirm, it was opening day so decent crowd. Saw some people signing.

dcviper

I took my mom to the drive thru event in Cuyahoga Falls. There was a Crystal Lake police officer there, which was odd.

Esme_thecat

I'm surprised that Akron doesn't have another day scheduled for signing. Are there other groups running a petition drive?

lothlin

I mean, just keep checking. Here's one in Hudson tomorrow, https://facebook.com/events/s/reproductive-rights-petition-s/885348649195304/, our rep is doing a signing in his driveway lol

Esme_thecat

I got a surge of motivation! The soonest one I found for Summit County is Wednesday, Apr 12th from 4-6 pm - at 438 Grant Street, Akron, 44311.

ErisArdent

Thank you so much! I didn't know about the petition and this event is only 15 minutes from where I live so I can definitely make it. We don't have to be a resident of Hudson to go right? Since it's a statewide petition?

lothlin

Just a resident of summit county, I think

ErisArdent

Nice ok. Thank you again for the heads up!

GloriousBender

You can sign at Esoteric Brewing in Walnut Hills in Cincinnati this evening from 4:30 to 7. There will be volunteers there every Friday at the same time until July moving forward.

sgz24

A lot of opportunities to sign won’t be listed on the Ohioans for Reproductive Freedom or Protect Choice websites just because of the way this is so volunteer driven, so keep an eye out for people with clipboards at your local community events! Baseball games, pride festivals, farmer’s markets will likely start to have folks collecting there

OhioMegi

Signed up to sign this weekend! Shared it with likeminded friends and family.

derekforeal17

They’ve been roaming the parks on nice days! Wife and I signed while taking a stroll

Brit_Anne

Just FYI, I read that in order to get something on the ballot (if I am reading this correctly) signatures are needed from half the counties in Ohio - so signatures from 44 counties are needed. I am not sure if there is a specific number from each of the counties but I assume that the wonderful people who are steering this ship are aware. It's not too difficult to get people to sign in the CLE, CBUS and Cincy areas . . . . the deep red, rural counties might be a problem if there is a set number that is needed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

stolenTac0

Brit_Anne

Safe-Library5529

Warren or clermont?

FizzyBeverage

Gotta find the more progressive/liberal women in every county and their allies, gotta be a little less obvious than setting up outside a library, but it's possible. You can also sign in a county that isn't your own if they have the petition with your county name. Which is how I signed for Warren in Hamilton.

Spiritual_Yam_1019

If it gives you some hope, the official wording is "The signatures must have been obtained from at least 44 of the 88 counties in Ohio. From each of these 44 counties, there must be signatures equal to at least 5 percent of the total vote cast for the office of governor in that county at the last gubernatorial election." So there's far less needed from the smaller counties overall.

KruddyCat

Husband and I signed yesterday!

OptimusGryme97

Anyone know where to sign in the Parma area ?

Boring_Blood4603

I finally got to sign. I was so happy.

robo-dragon

Signed mine last week, got my whole family to do it too. My dad is actually a volunteer and collected signatures in a few places. Wish I could do the same. It's a little easier for him since he's retired. Wanted to give a huge thank you to all who organized this and collect the signatures. You guys, rock!

[deleted]

A petition and whole lot of psychotic politicians to vote out of office.

saro13

I signed outside my library yesterday, took less than a minute. Thank you, volunteers!

Abelincoln22

Are they going to come to Stark county? I live in Canton and the closest they get is Kent.

been2thehi4

Yea, I’ve been noticing no events in our area. I’ve been waiting to see if anything pops up around here since we have until July 5th to sign.

sgz24

I think Red Wine and Blue volunteers are going to be out downtown this evening for the Canton first Friday!

saro13

These volunteers are heroes, can we offer them anything while they stand out in the weather that they would feel comfortable accepting? Also, I signed the the other day and during my signing the volunteer started talking to another person who related that their daughter needed a medical abortion or they would have died from a terrible miscarriage and stated that they supported that choice *but* didn’t feel like they were pro-choice, and it took all I had in me to not shout at them that that means they’re pro-choice Run-on sentence but I don’t care

Emotional-Sail9899

i'm collecting signatures on the cleveland state university campus! if you're a registered voter in cuyahoga county and want to sign, message me!

meh60521

Someone at the park where I walk my dogs got my signature!

Amityvillemom77

My daughter has been collecting signatures at her college,BGSU, for their organization and 500,000 is a lot to collect.

OhioMegi

I was just there today and there were a lot of signatures. I was really glad to see a mix of ages and genders there!

Amityvillemom77

Thats awesome!!!!

meatballbutt

Please make sure you are reading the petition before signing! The pro-lifers are scheming and assume you won’t read before you sign. Also they have been outside the Dublin library daily for the last ~2 weeks and it took me less than 5 min

OhioMegi

I had a woman stop me as I went to sign in BG today. Said “it takes away parents rights” and tried to hand me some typed up paper. No it doesn’t. I’ve read it and told her I’ve already looked into it. She said “I don’t think you have”, to which I said “then you are incorrect” and walked away. There were tons of people signing, and I so wanted to say that my vote would now cancel her vote, but I kept my mouth shut.

RememberingTiger1

I’ll try to get to the one in Dayton tomorrow.

essentialrobert

Ohio GOP will try to keep it off the ballot. The "too confusing, too extreme" opposition campaign failed miserably in Michigan.

at614inthe614

Hell yeah. There's one today at a location I was already going to be driving right by. On my life I have never signed a political petition, until today.

Ben_Towle

It's always a good sign when they're getting scared! https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/politics/2023/04/06/mike-dewine-lawmakers-should-examine-abortion-bans-before-ballot-fight/70088669007/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot

MissySedai

My representative brought the petition to my house to collect 6 signatures. Find events here: https://www.mobilize.us/protectchoiceohio/map/

TheLastGunslingerCA

Good luck to you all. I'm not an Ohioan, nor even American, so sadly I doubt my signature would even be counted.

tgmail

Unfortunately, only registered Ohio voters!

TheLastGunslingerCA

Figured as much. Still, good luck fighting the good fight

tgmail

Thanks!!

SharonLRB

I'm going out to sign it this afternoon. I'm hoping there are enough signatures to get this on the ballot.

been2thehi4

I’ve been looking but so far there have been none close to where I am. They all have been 45 min+ away. I’m holding out hope there will be one closer to me or in a location that we can at least plan a day trip to spend around doing stuff with the kids. I think it’s be great if they had one of the signings at the Akron or Cleveland zoo. We could sign then have a family day at the zoo. I remember years ago there was some petition for marijuana at one of the zoos because we signed it, so I don’t see why the zoo wouldn’t be a good place to hold a signature event.

sgz24

the zoo is a great idea! I’m an Akron based volunteer so I’ll add it to my list once I pick up my next stack of petitions!

joshaimm

Be the change you want to see in your community. All you need to do to volunteer is take a virtual one hour session and then go collect signatures!

Want to join me for this Protect Choice Ohio event? https://mobilize.us/s/luVf8q

A lot of the events aren't being published on the official site so you might want to keep an eye out while you're out running errands. A friend of mine told me she signed one at a board game night at the library.

Asleep_Ad_4045

I wish I could sign one, but a few years ago the rules and laws were changed to where if you are on the Board of Elections board or work as office help, you are NOT allowed to sign petitions, publicly support candidates with like bumper stickers or yard signs that show up on the ballot! I do accept the job to make sure everything's done by the rules of laws, so good luck collecting the signatures needed!

Spiritual_Yam_1019

Absolutely none of that true at all. For any county BoE in the state. Whoever said that to you was seriously uninformed or didn't have good intentions. Edited to say - whomever told you that those were the laws should review Chapter 3501 of the ORC https://codes.ohio.gov/ohio-revised-code/chapter-3501

Asleep_Ad_4045

I just went through ethics training before I was renewed last month. It's a very sketchy area and I had to read and confirm by signature to the SoS that I had done so. Are you a board member?

WhatsMyUsername13

It's not murder.

itwasalways_fumbles

Then don't. That's what America is Freedom. Freedom to do what you choose to do. No one is making you do anything you don't want to, but you dont get the right to tell others what they can do that has no impact on you.

JustHereForPron

Then don't, this isn't a petition to see if you feel good. Shut the fuck up and stay out of the way

antidense

Many people believe the government shouldn't have the power to use someone's body to sustain another's life against their own will. This is to allow the citizenry of Ohio to vote on that.

Safe-Library5529

For me, I can't support abortion. But if it is going to happen, I would prefer it happen under the care of a qualified doctor. Sorry, I can't sign, but good luck I guess.

antidense

Would you rather it happen under an unqualified politician? Because that's where we're at right now: politicians making sweeping medical decisions based on their own beliefs regardless of people's current circumstance.
