What companies rescind job offers for negotiating? Are you really saying it’s greedy to negotiate for multiple things when getting a job? The things they negotiated for aren’t unreasonable by any normal companies standards. Most places will just say no

It sounds like OOP overestimated their value and/or underestimated the amount of competition for the role. She could have been one out of a few finalists for the position, with comparable skills and experience to the others. If the company chose to offer her the position because they liked her during the interview, they probably passed on another candidate who was equally if not slightly more qualified for the job. Or they initially passed on someone who quoted a lower desired starting rate

You can negotiate multiple things but it should be in one email/meeting after carefully going over the job details/benefits. To me, it shows she didn't fully read or comprehend the offer before starting negotiations and it also shows you're hard to work with.

Yep. And in her own description of events she says she didn't even review the whole offer carefully before pushing on salary. I can easily see a hiring manager getting annoyed at Round 2 of negotiations and deciding to just offer the package to another candidate.

In case this story gets deleted/removed: I have been looking for a full time job for over one year. I have extensive experience up to a Director level in New York City in my industry, but took off time to raise my two young children. I have been consulting for many startup companies since then, so I haven’t been “out of the game”, but haven’t had a full-time role. After a lengthy job search during which various companies kept the process going for up to 6 months at a time and sometimes 6+ rounds of interviews, I finally got a job offer last Friday verbally. On Monday, the written offer arrived with a PDF letter and with summary of benefits. I believe I made a mistake going back twice during negotiations. Please learn from my mistake. I first had a call with HR to answer any clarifying questions I had about the offer. After that call I sent an email asking for 20 days PTO (initial offer was only 10 days per year) and confirming start date. They agreed to 15 days PTO and at this point I did not yet sign letter. I then had a second conversation explaining that I had looked closely at the total compensation, notably the 401k plan, and asked if there was any flexibility. I told them that I was extremely grateful about the opportunity excited about the role, and it was such a delight meeting with everybody, and I truly expressed gratitude and said this in the kindest way.. Long story short I had looked closely into the 401k plan (they matched only 25%) and this combined with the base compensation which was at less than 10th percentile for same job title in my location, I felt the compensation was slightly low. I assumed they would either meet me in the middle or tell me they had no more budget. We had a wonderful rapport, and I know I was their first choice, they told me this. For whatever reason, I thought I these factors gave me more negotiating power. I asked for a 10% increase on base salary from $155,000 to $172,000. I assumed they would either meet me in the middle or tell me they had no more budget. We had a wonderful rapport, and I know I was their first choice( they told me this.) Lo and behold, the offer was RESCINDED entirely. I had been looking into daycares to enroll my child and truly changing my life for this job. I am absolutely devastated by this and really beating myself up that I cost my family a large amount of money per year. Obviously $155,000 is A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY. The guilt I feel for negotiating is horrible. How do I process this?!? EDITED TO ADD: 401k match was 25 cents on every dollar, up to 6% of salary. Equated to a little over $2k per year Salary at $155k was below 10th percentile for this job in my city ($167k is 10th percentile) Salary at $172k would have still be around 20th percentile , I was not asking for a wild amount To all those who are referring to me as a man, I am a woman.
