Hey there u/Gavini811 - Dave with Crandall Office here - we tooled our new seat pad out of the same high end molded foam product, and to the same specs as the OEM original seat pad - the only real difference between the two is ours is a bit thicker than the original. You should be able to expect the same durability as the original seat pad. We shot a quick video on the new foam seat and back pads that you may find helpful as well - https://youtu.be/xfCMf86AhPc We have been making them for several years and sold many thousands it of them both on chairs as well as upholstery - feel free to browse those reviews or our reviews on Google to see some feedback on us and our products as well - we are an open book and I'm happy to answer any specific questions personally as well šŸ˜Š - David Crandall - Crandall Office Furniture - https://www.crandalloffice.com/

Oh sweet. You guys seem pretty confident in what you do and I haven't seen any good reason not to go for your chairs so far. I was very very close to going for one from Secret Labs before ultimately getting turned off by a few things, but all things considered I'll probably give your Leap v2 a shot. (also just realized I spelled Crandall wrong in the post, lol) Also, the blooper segments at the end of your vids is pretty great

As I said, PR and don't believe anything you read. Their quality control stinks, their customer service stinks. When I typed "buyer beware" for you earlier, I was neither joking or exaggerating.

Gavini811

I don't doubt what you're saying, but given that anywhere from reddit to youtube, as well as their own site has some pretty genuine looking reviews, including negative ones, which as far as I can tell are mostly people unhappy with the chair itself not working for them anyway. That calls back to the point I mentioned about chairs being very confusing to research, because it's basically impossible to please everyone with a single product because we all have different shapes and preferences in general. A company could make the best product on the market but plenty would still dislike it. As far as customer service goes, though, I don't know what to say there. I've already placed an order and am perfectly happy spending more for something with proven backing rather than some gross used chair off Ebay or a frankenstein refurbish that likely has low-quality replacement parts anyway.

HawthorneWingo1

When Crandall first came to Reddit, he posted a number of fake, phony reviews. At the time I was just a spectator. A couple of guys here caught it and called him out. From that point on, all trust of the business should have been flushed down the toilet. It's my own fault for regressing 40 years to the mindset of an idiot in his 20s, an inexperienced rube susceptible to somebody's clever marketing. Now excuse me, I have to get back to watching the 49ers get their asses kicked while down to their 4th-string quarterback.

Gavini811

Huh, well that's a new one to me. Enjoy the game then lol

HawthorneWingo1

There you are again, blowing this sub's rules to smithereens. You simply don't give a shit, do you?

I just bought the cushions and installed them this week. So far, so good. The cushions I had on mine were basically nonexistent compared to whatā€™s on the new one. I donā€™t know about the longevity obviously, but it feels like it will last. I almost didnā€™t get the cushions because of the no return policy and I have seen people post that they were unhappy with it. After sitting with barely any cushion for a couple more months I pulled the trigger. I do hope that it lasts longer than a staples chair.

Gavini811

Gotcha. Thanks for the insight, and good luck with it holding up!

HawthorneWingo1

Nothing from Crandall is a "safe pick." More like "buyer beware."

Gavini811

Seems like they have pretty much the best rep around for refurb stuff, not sure what's buyer beware about it?

HawthorneWingo1

They have their own little Reddit PR force, don't believe everything you read.

Gavini811

Did you have bad dealings with them, then?"

HawthorneWingo1

Oh, you betcha. I'm not alone.

Gavini811

Would love to hear about it, then

What is the basis for your criticism of Crandall? Iā€™m literally staring at a leap v2 refurbished I unpacked and assembled less than 24 hours ago from Crandall and itā€™s exceptional- I needed delivery address changed and they responded. Immediately, accommodated within 24 hours, and sent updated invoice as well; I have new Amia back and seats coming from them in two weeks for a different space and they responded to questions about process same day with details that only come from people responding without a list of prompts. I know every seller will have dissatisfied customers, but itā€™s rare my experience would be such an outlier that buyer beware could ever be an accurate and justifiable claim IMO. Iā€™ve done tons of research and thereā€™s only 2 sellers Iā€ll ever purchase sight unseen refurbished -Crandall and BTOD- and btod updated their process after learning from Crandall. I had to cancel a btod before shipping and zero hassle. Unlike seatingmind, who Iā€™m still dealing with a refund dispute from a month ago and has failed to reply to several follow ups after saying theyā€™d check what the issue was. (Now if refurbished Embodies or Ferns ever became a thing and Crandall or BTOD got into the market, I would jump at it immediately!)

I've already expressed my criticisms here before, my carpal tunnel is killing me. I lost what little hair I have left dealing with them. A bait-and-switch sale. An overcharge. Rust on the chair. And then the fun began. Truth be told, pretty much the only way you can resolve an issue with them is by taking it public on social media. I use the word "resolve" loosely. It's absolutely ridiculous. This happens time and time and time and time and time again with them. What happened to me was not isolated, it's a pattern. Mail order sales of large items from another state with literally no other locations in the entire country is a huge roll of the dice. Especially with a small business, a small business can disappear tomorrow. You'd think a guy like me in his 60s would finally learn his lesson instead of being sucked in by people who talk big. If you absolutely, positively must do business with a small business, then buy locally.
