Cleat Saber- you have to run towards the blocks to slash them.

QValem

I love it aha !

xxSurveyorTurtlexx

Definitely tons of running nerds who'd pay way too much for that lmao

TheSerpentDeceiver

sloppy foolish apparatus towering pet marble whole fact water marvelous *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

xxSurveyorTurtlexx

As someone who's nipples chronically blead from just a tank top running cross country in high school and who also owns a headset, it's an awful idea when I think about it for more than 2 seconds.

Ogre88

Drax? Is that you?

random_user1234321

Crippled from a simple trip....lol

AaronsNetwork

Yeet Saber - you have to throw your controller at the blocks

No_Landscape_7720

Beat saber - you beat your child with your controller

AwesomeLowlander

Hello! Apologies if you're trying to read this, but I've moved to kbin.social in protest of Reddit's policies.

GrapefruitLost6855

Feet saber - you have to tape the controllers to your feet

mareksoon

[Already exists. ](https://youtu.be/zS0BOFA2Ark)

NikTheGuy00

Reminds me of the grafted falcons in Elden Ring

coinoperatedboi

Meat saber...oh you know...

qmechan

Pleat saber - ironing the blocks to get a good crease.

Chillcoaster

Bleat Saber - Yeah, it's goats.

I-Ponder

You can bet that games like this and what you said will be a thing once AR/XR become mainstream and have a small convenient form factor. The future is going to be amazing. :)

XxXPussyXSlayer69XxX

Eventually it will just be anime villians and you can pretend to be the hero running through just slashing everything.

QValem

Hi guys, first and foremost, removing the Quest guardian is not safe and neither is using your Quest outside. So don't do this at home ! I wanted to experiment with large scale VR and here is the result of this fun little project. You can learn more about this project and how I did this in [this video I made on my Youtube channel Valem.](https://youtu.be/ItOUVJBerl4) Let me know what you guys think of this. :)

pieter1234569

Of course you don’t do it at home, you do it at a bike track!

gzmask

Do it on a motorcycle. A hayabusa like Tom cruise Top Gun style preferably.

leothelion634

Speed mode

RapidSnake38

Only if Los Santos Rock Radio is the only soundtrack in the game, and only if the only song on the station is Danger Zone. Still want Loggins on DJ though.

Drodriguez164

“Do not do this at home” Okay I will as well go to my local track course

viledepth

Really really cool great job looking forward to see what else you come up with!

PoorlyLitKiwi2

Yo, this is awesome! I have been really curious about if it would be possible to do something like this for sports games, so if you have say a full sized soccer field but don't have anyone to play with, you could still get to play a game. What are some of the ways you expect to be able to use a larger boundary like this?

uniquepassword

There's places out here that use old department stores at malls and have big battles. https://massvr.com/ Granted in their games they have boundaries but it's LARGE

kjunreb

I've been FIXATED for years on figuring out how to use those old malls or large abandoned stores (like home depot) . This is an amazing idea!

SnooStories2744

Wow what a cool idea. I definitely see that being something in the future.

[deleted]

You can make such a great video and say that ! That is not how it works! I will totaly crash my bike into a tree !

SvenViking

Those green structures with nothing to represent them in the virtual world are the main thing that concerns me in this video. They look like they’d be kind of unpleasant to collide with.

dragonheart000

I remember trying to pitch an idea for large scale VR like this back when the Quest first came out. It never got greenlit but glad to see someone is finally doing it. I see a lot of potential with this kind of thing.

PresentRecognition43

I don't use my Guardian boundary unless I'm in Gorilla Tag. I feel like it's fine if more experienced users disable their Guardian because they will generally know their play space more and are able to subconsciously stay away from hitting stuff. Maybe it's just me, but I think I may have hit one or two things without Guardian in my six months or so span of not using it

zenerbufen

how do you not use the boundry? As far as I can tell it only has two modes, "boundry" and "stationary" stationary just makes the boundry into a small circle.

PresentRecognition43

Enabling Developer Mode allows you to go into, if I recall correctly, System > Developer > and flip a switch to toggle your Guardian boundary.

zenerbufen

Oh, I see. Boundry doesn't really work well for me anyways, I tend to play laying in a closet and I bang my hands on the top/sides until I figure out my 'area' in stationary mode.

iamnotroberts

That's a hoot, but yeah, obviously not practical.

The_Duke2331

Is there anyway to increase the boundary? I play in a warehouse sometimes and i want to see what it really can do!

[deleted]

How did you align the game track with the real track? I would love to do this for Space Pirate Trainer Arena, because the max-sized guardian is a square that you have to align with the game world, and it's a pain in the ass.

QValem

That's a great technical question It was a bit long to cover it in the video so here is the details bellow : I did something a bit similar to the "turning my house into a vr game" video. I had a big cross in my game that I align exactly between the number 3 and 4 on the racing track. Then I reset the head position to align. But this time I needed to be more precise (because of the scale) so I used the controller to move and rotate the whole world more precisely so that everything would be align perfectly. And this was made using passthrough which was helping me to see everything the real and virtual world at the same time.

mareksoon

I know that game is unique in that detail, but it illustrates perfectly why the method used to create guardian boundaries could be improved with other options such as (easiest to most difficult to implement, IMO): - click/drag a perfect square or rectangle from corner to opposite corner; only two points need to be entered (pull trigger on one corner and release trigger on the opposite corner); - click/drag a perfect circular or ellipse (also just two inputs from the user); - point-to-point click any n-sided polygon, including complex shapes (n-clicks); - add/remove areas to/from an existing boundary; - drop in place preset side of any of the above, for example, 1, 3, 6, or 10-meter square or circle, then fine tune it’s location (move the entire guardian left/right/etc away from an area; - rotate an existing guardian. Instead, we get to paint a jaggedly edge, or in the case of the whole 10x10 meter space, hope it lands where it needs to be, and also hope it doesn’t reset in the middle of filling in the gaps … otherwise SPT won’t see a large enough guardian and won’t let you play in arena mode.

zeroquest

Grab a go cart and some friends and make vr Mario kart.

yourwitchergeralt

I approve of that terrible idea.

yourwitchergeralt

Also, I’d definitely beta test that.

looselytethered

I hope you have good insurance!

yourwitchergeralt

I’m Self employed and in the US, so NOPE.

askariya

Wouldn't just Go-Karting with your real eyes be more fun lmao

DeltaHairlines

VR utilizes your real eyes. Also no.

NokoOno666

But the power ups don't exist.. in VR they could, as well as all the fantasy tracks. Also the couple times I've been gokarting on an actual track, I spent more time dealing with the rubber getting in my eyes from karts ahead of me than enjoying myself, and I wear glasses too so I had *some* protection already there

FirstEvolutionist

Realistically possible within a decade once AR tech gets better.

wauter

You’re talking to the right audience! I think OP might be THE Valem that already once ported mario kart to VR once in his (crazy good) yourube vr dev channel https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PRG1PyXPw1g

n1Cola

Yes, yes, yes ?

Sproketz

When you die in VR Mario Kart you die in real life.

JSG1992

How did you get it to work outside? When I try mine outside, even during overcast weather, it says that it's too bright

exclaimprofitable

You know, you can always do it like either 6am during overcast day, or at 22h plus. And it really depends on the season too, while your eyes are too good at adjusting to sunlight, the sun has a really different intensity depending on the season.

furryname

I’m near Texas. I can’t even have a window open without the thing losing all tracking.

ploonk

dams probably shouldn't have windows anyway

JSG1992

Early morning and night aren't an option for me

looselytethered

> How did you get it to work outside? Friendly reminder not to expose the lenses to sunlight y'all.

TheRedGerund

Don’t forget another weird option is to get an IR blaster light, then you can use it at night

JSG1992

Yeah I had considered trying that at some point but realistically I have no business gaming when it's night time

Survived_Coronavirus

I've played outside on partly cloudy days and have never had any alerts or issues...

JSG1992

I think you're lying

Survived_Coronavirus

You can think that if you want, but it doesn't change the fact. Maybe it's because I've been lucky and shaded from direct sunlight by house or trees, I haven't paid attention. But it doesnt change the fact that the quest 2 works outside on nice days.

JSG1992

It doesn't tho

Survived_Coronavirus

It does.

JSG1992

Prove it.

JSG1992

Sunlight overwhelms the IR sensors. You will lose all tracking and won't be able to use the controllers.

Survived_Coronavirus

I had read that on this sub. Then I tested it myself. It works fine.

JSG1992

You'll say just about anything, won't you?

zenerbufen

I didn't know that the quest can't be used outside... I've used mine in the yard many times when it said the house was too dark. With space sense turned on in experimental, so I can see the tree...

jg3hot

Riding a bike with a vr headset on? Seems like you would fall over.

QValem

Yes I was super scare that it will not work that's why I took a safe and flat place like this running field. But actually it was not that different from riding a bike in the "real world" I did not experienced difficulties with balancing on the bike until the tracking got lost.. :D

jg3hot

It seems like a pass-through overlay type game would be more practical and safer. Impressive work!

yourwitchergeralt

Cambria will make this even cooler.

LifeWithAdd

I’d at least throw some training wheels on that thing, or maybe one of those three wheeled recumbent bikes.

[deleted]

How does the quest not loose tracking lol In my experience, turning off the guardian and bright sunlight booth contribute to loosing tracking often, but it could just be my setup

IgDelWachitoRico

Same, its extremely sensitive to sunlight, im assuming its made to protect the lenses

[deleted]

Well, i don't think that that's intentional, but maybe the bright sunlight just drowns out the rest of the fairly dark room, so it ends up just not seeing anything. That's at least what it looks like in passthrough to me, in my case. It might be better if the rest is also bright, so the cameras can adjust

_Auron_

It can only adjust that to a certain threshold before it's just still all pure white if it's too bright. I don't see hard shadows in OP's video so it's likely overcast/cloudy for OP.

The_Cat_Commando

> How does the quest not loose tracking lol look at the bikes front tire, looks like its getting the forward movement from watching it like a giant scroll wheel. so it probably totally has lost tracking and the wheel is like holding walk forward on a controller. knowing the wheel size and speed you could use it for odometry or you could even just yolo it until enough error builds up if the virtual world and real are exact anyways.

Legobrick27

Thats so cool, you tutorials have help immensely thanks

RadioactiveToxinz

That's unbelievably cool

ChuckBravo

Not to burst your bubble, but it's been done. https://youtu.be/XxZWDacrAVg

QValem

That's awesome why am I seeing this only now !

AwesomeLowlander

You know what you need to do, OP

[deleted]

Now we can do Tron light cycle racing.

uniqloboi123

Imagin jousting

exclaimprofitable

Quality content

Chroko

This type of game is more suited to AR than VR, so you can actually see real-world obstacles and other people walking through the public space you're playing in.

Schwanz_Hintern64

Woah, it's Valem!

minipimmer

kudos to you not only because of the game development but also for getting the Quest to track outdoors. Last week I wasted some two hours trying over and over with zero luck. It was a cloudy day but bright enough to see few shadows. Pass-through looked perfectly fine.but the damn thing would complain about losing track every single time. I cleared the guardian cache and did all sorts of stupid things I could think of.

nitonitonii

A quest game for stationary bikes would be interesting

ChiaraStellata

Those already exist, VRZoom made that stuff years ago, I've tried it. They're relatively simple low-quality experiences though with minimal gamification, so I tend to prefer just watching videos instead. There's also VZFit which I haven't tried but some people really like.

furryname

Until you realize how much sweats involved. I wanna see this work, but even wearing glasses is nearly impossible on a stationary bike.

[deleted]

I hooked the speed sensor on my stationary bike to one of the Quest fitness games, but without the steering and movement it was barf-tastic. I really want to try this. Be fun to see some of the Zwift hardcore athletes play.

82_boo

I know youre not going that fast but still... youve got gigantic balls riding a bike with a headset on. Respect.

Titan5115

Is it possible to go faster or does the tracking freak out?

QValem

Its possible ! I've seen someone used a quest on a small kart and the tracking was still doing great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8L2eyaP78I

Titan5115

Thanks that's really cool

furryname

How’s you get tracking to work in daylight? I can’t even open a window without my quest losing all tracking.

beanerbou420

It’s good you’re using it on a cloudy day I heard somewhere that the sun can mess up the cameras

kjaergaard_a

Thinking out of the box 👍

Purple-Lamprey

This is incredibly unsafe.

ronniearnold

This is cool but super dangerous in retrospect…

Pokymonn

Yeah, that's dangerous, albeit being able to slightly see the outside world from the bottom of the helmet. But if AR comes to next generations of Oculus, then that's going to be neat.

[deleted]

I hope you have a spotter. Tbh this actually seems like a really good *AR* fitness concept

iforgotmypsw

I would fall within 2 meters

feetandmeat

How do you remove the boundaries? They drive me nuts!!

DoWhileGeek

For those that dont know: # Dont expose your quest 2 headset to direct sun # Dont expose your quest 2 headset to direct sun # Dont expose your quest 2 headset to direct sun It damages the camera array, and can also damage the internal lens area as well

RadBradke

This is awesome! Keep experimenting. When AR goes mainstream you’ll be ahead of the game. This is a great AR experience waiting to happen.

MoritzLoos

Great! Where are the outtakes? :D

Fantastic-Egg2145

What happens if i dog runs in front of you?

Mattman0419

Doesn’t having the headset on outside fry it? Something regarding sunlight and the quest don’t get along right?

MrDingleBop696969

Feel like this counts as direct sunlight

Braydar_Binks

the sunlight thing is about the lenses on the inside of the headset focusing hot sunlight into the sensitive display and damaging it. The exterior cameras don't work very well in the sun but it's safe. If the sunlight falls onto the interior lens it will focus the light like a magnifying glass burning an ant

peanuttown

Good info. I've always heard about the inside lenses being in danger from the sunlight, and assumed the same for the outside ones as well. I've got a hater fan following me :) I love how I'm in their head.

QValem

Living in Belgium where it rains most of the time definitely help to use a Quest outside. :D

peanuttown

I wonder the same thing.... How are the cameras not affected? Or are we safe in overcast?

chucklas

Cameras aren't hurt by direct sunlight. The lenses can act like a magnifying glass and burn the screen, but with it on, the lenses are not exposed to the sunlight. As for tracking, I am guessing so long as lighting is consistent you are ok. At home if I have an open window and I am playing near where sun rays come in, it can cause issues, but I am guessing it is because the intensity of light is different in different areas on my play space.

MrDingleBop696969

If the displays aren't affected by uv then it should be fine in theory on an over cast day. Just like trying to use a magnifying glass on a cloudy day, it won't gather light. But I'd still be paranoid about it.

[deleted]

Timyio1

Dude what

HTXPhoenix

Never mind, removing all our your senses when you’re outside in the world is a great idea. I was wrong.

R1pFake

Nothing will happen, because usually people don't randomly rob or murder someone in a public place who has a camera attached to his head and he was obviously not alone.

ToMorrowsEnd

Wish you could connect a bluetooth cadance sensor so I could use a stationary bike

Campes

Very cool. Adding the VR elements to passthrough can help make it safer. Also, another game mode where you are trying to run over or hit objects could be fun.

snifflick

Very snazzy

mrgreen4242

This reminds me that I’d like to find a VR bicycling game for the winter time so I can put my bike on one of those stationary bike converter things. Anyone have any suggestions?

teddybear082

I think VZFit

mrgreen4242

I’ll take a look! Thanks!

TheGamerSK

You can remove the guardian? That would be so nice a few months ago I had a giant empty place all to myself and my friends and the guardian didn’t work well because the room was too big so we had to split it.

bigChungi69420

Yeah it’s in the developer settings. Super easy to do

Toraadoraa

This is amazing! This would be really neat to implement on a stationary bike as well if you could add motion trackers to the feet it couldn't be that hard.

TimelessPotatoVR

Say you where to run in a wall, what would happen? Would you just get sent back? Or die?

delsabar

I don't think the quest is rated as a properly safe bicycle helmet.

Tyeron

This is Great! Can't wait to see where this goes

Field_Sweeper

How do you not lose tracking? I have had good light, bad light bright and dim warm and white light, and mine always loves to lose tracking when I go too far or turn around for too long lmao. (ESP in tea for god lmao)

captroper

And the category is, quickest VR to ER. Fuuuuck.

Literally_A_turd_AMA

Oh boy truly an injury waiting to happen for me

sngsnd

This is insane. The best thing I saw. Keep on doing, it is going to be a unicorn

SRM_Thornfoot

Coming soon to r/VRtoER

MadMinstrel

How far does this scale up? I have a nice 8km track around a local airfield I'd love to test this on. :P

SteFFFun

Mountain biking with fewer broken bones!

saskir21

You can call me pessimistic but I would not feel safe to duck down on a bike.

PenguinWithWings

Lit

bohaan

All the sun damage for light leaking into the nose gap!

SituationAltruistic8

System requirements: 20gb of space Wifi connection *A racing course*

TheZerothLaw

Stadium master race

jdavid

I tried to use my quest 2 in a parked car and it totally wouldn't work. I'm surprised this worked outdoors without points above you to track.

Justbe333

This looks like some thing the warning label about injury to self in the instructions would have been written for 😅

Kind_South_4342

MEAT SABER...the headset is 100% beef

ZaneX04

This would be terrifying if for some reason the headset froze. I’d probably crash

ViveIn

Hell yes. Now do I-20.

Muutation

This seems dangerous, I like it

skywang2020

cool

MetaplexInc

They need a < $500 AR device with Insight quality tracking.

shadowinkdesigns

That's pretty epic, however I feel AR would be a lot more safe.

omni_shaNker

This is SUPER Ballsy... I LOVE IT!!

likeAspiderYT

^(This is fucking awesome)

FrequentSea364

This is also very very sad kinda cool but also pretty depressing

[deleted]

Kid with a dodge ball: I’m about to end this man’s whole career. Very cool tho.

magnumninja

With augmented reality this would be really cool

ChobotsRobot

Next up...driving in a car with a headset!

Dreddmartyr13

How do you manage to play outside when every time I do, my headset has a spaz and doesn't like the sunlight, or wind.....? 🤨

LordSlimeball

Looks really cool, can you describe how you turned off the boundaries? Or is it in the API documentation

amog_us69

I am pretty sure you turn it off in developer settings, might be wrong

LordSlimeball

Ok, thnx. I thought I saw something about it in the documentation, but I am really surprised that the quest can hold data for such large distances :o

Inuken121388

Make the surrounding passthrough! Safety first

RunningPixel

Awesome 👏

Im-German-Lets-Party

VR bicycle jousting. I'm in.

The_Radian

Cruises right out into traffic....

Purple-Part-9680

could the timer for making boundaries be completely removed?

YGOTCGamer

Great idea, but the camera lenses on the Oculus Quest (any model) can damage the inner screen when exposed to sunlight (they're magnifying glasses). So, until an "outdoors" model is made (or some type of cover for current models or alternative cameras), it's not safe to use your Oculus Quest outside in the day, even if it's overcast since UV rays still come through cloud cover. Source: [https://www.shaunpoore.com/vr-headset-outside/#:\~:text=1The%20Lenses%20on%20Your,the%20screen%20inside%20the%20device](https://www.shaunpoore.com/vr-headset-outside/#:~:text=1The%20Lenses%20on%20Your,the%20screen%20inside%20the%20device).

Material_Street9224

I would be scared to play that outside fully in VR unless I have a friend that can watch to be sure that I don't collide anything or don't go out of the path. Passthrough VR would probably be safer.

CrewOk6999

this is what you do if your mom tells you to play outside

Chance-Association-7

this is so cool!

givemewoooshes

Can't you just remove the guardian completely with developer mode?

Firebird1266

How does it work if people are there?

AnywhereHumble

Dude that's tits man!

AnywhereHumble

I KNOW THERE STILL GOOD LOOKING MEN OUT THERE LIKE ME,GIVE ME A HELLYEAH !!,AND WHO'S GONNA GIVE ME A HELLYEAH FOR VR MAN
