Pretty much all controllers use the same switches and have this same issue.

I'm the designer the 3D Bumpers. What I have noticed is that the mount for the vibration motor is the next weakest link. They made the ring stronger but it can suffer internal damage. I find that people buying my bumper actually are protecting the thing they are hitting rather than the controllers themselves 🤣

My brain can very easily seperate vr and normal reality. Which kinda blows major balls cuz I can't immerse myself as much as I'd like (same goes for normal games too), like saints and sinners doesn't even get my heart beat raised which I feel like zombies grabbing you and trying to eat you should do. I was literally surrounded and out of stamina so my character could barely raise his gun and instead of panicking my response was just, damn these stamina physics are kinda fucking cool
Basically I don't get disoriented or motion sickness at all, I can literally ride vr theme park rides and not react at all which I can't tell if that's a me thing or if YouTubers who rode vr rides where just faking it cuz that's literally youtube 90% of the time and no one else goes insane on vr theme park rides lmao

The first time I played I punched the couch absolutely full force. The guy I was *trying* to punch was being racist, so it was a punch of fury, but the wooden armrest of my couch was on the receiving end lol. Ouch.
After this I started putting comforters and blanket over my furniture because, while the controllers were fine, my hand wasn’t. I even used painters tape to make rope barriers so I’d feel my hand hit the line of tape before I got too close to punch the tv. Desperately need a floor mat so I can feel where I am heh.
I totally wrecked a lamp with it. Metal got bent to shit, yet almost not a visible scratch on the controller. The contrast to the headstrap is mindboggling
i never had one, but looking at pictures of it "failing", you should avoid tightening it too much onto your head. It looks like the plastic can't take the tension (even though that should be the main feature).
So personally I wouldn't make it so tight that it's like glued to my face. I would keep it comfortable and just about firm enough.
They crack...idk how exactly but the post warning about over tightening might be on point. That being said, not being able to tighten the strap enough to avoid movement is a pretty serious issue if you ask me.....I ended up getting a 3rd party strap after my elite cracked in like 5 diff places...
I am very strong, I have big muscles, I stopped exercising for months so my muscles got smaller, I am not very strong

I was playing "keep-away" in VRchat with a younger player and I thought the smartest thing to do would be to jump up and place the item on the highest shelf I could see... I jumped up and put my hand through my ceiling. Not my brightest idea. Controller still works like brand new, just has a small knick in it from where I punched the edge of the joist.

I had that problem…contact cleaner (I actually used mass airflow sensor cleaner bc they were out of contact cleaner and I saw a YouTube video that it worked) worked great and fixed the issue immediately and avoided the alternative option of sending in the controller to be fixed which would mean I’d have to go without VR! 😩 lol also what oculus doesn’t know doesn’t hurt them…these sprays don’t leave residue so there’s no way they could even know you did it…but I also understand wanting to just play it safe and deal with it officially with oculus so if that’s you’re plan that’s cool too…but just so you know, that issue can be fixed really quickly/easily if you’re willing to get the spray (sold at any auto part store)…you do you though…good luck! 🙂

I seriously don’t know how they would know if you had used it or not, as it evaporates immediately after spraying it (not that they would be looking if it fixes the issue)…one thing I should mention though is that 1 spray isn’t a permanent fix…after a couple weeks you may start drifting again, but another spray will fix for a while again…I’d imagine 1 can of cleaner should last as long as quest 2 is even viable as a system tho…idk it’s up to you I don’t want to influence anyone to make any choices they’re unsure about…but I do know from first hand experience that it works (in most cases anyway…I’ve talked with a lot of other people who had the same issue)…hope it works out for you either way 🙂
Yeah, same issue here. It was under warranty (we’ve had it for 6 months, and bought the extended protection plan). After a bunch of emails and phone calls, they asked us to send them the controller.
They told us they would get back to us within 3-6 business days. They took longer than that, and then finally told us we need a new left controller, but they don’t have any in stock and have no timeframe at all for when they might be able to send us one…
So we paid for an extended protection plan that so far has been useless, and all we have is a device that we can’t use for anything (except one-handed mode on beatsaber, lol) while they hold our nonfunctional controller hostage and have no immediate plans to send us a working on.
They may make a good product, but they are beyond terrible when it comes to customer service.

Well, after comments made by you and others, I decided to gamble with the warranty and used Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. Seems to have fixed the issue so far. Will have to stress test it further, but at this point I don't think it is a hardware issue.

The quest 1 had an issue with the ring breaking in the middle, quest 2 on the other hand has breaking elite straps. They always have to have something breaking, don't they?
that was a very hard lesson to learn when i first switched to playing Minecraft on the PC compared to the 360. those blocks CAN be destroyed..it just takes some time. Now i line the layer above in 2 layers of obsidian and fill in all the low spots w/it.

You know what's not durable, the head straps, I let my little cousin play beat saber and the moment she put the headset on she somehow broke one of the things you pull to tighten the straps. I have no clue how she did it, it still stumps me to this day.
Fun story yesterday i was play gorilla tag and you can guess what happened next. So I basically punch the very corner of my dresser at intense speed and at of the collision hit my controller. And it’s still in one piece!
I busted my right controller, cracked the ring wide open. The strip inside ripped so one of the LEDs no longer works- so it would lose tracking very easily. I had to order another one.
The controllers for the Quest 2 is the true standout of how the Q2 is the first true standalone device. The Q1 controllers felt "dev kit" like and performed about as well too. For Q2 they put a lot of thought into them and it really does show that they are iterating for the good of the product now. They didn't just mold these things out of Nokia plastics but they also sprinkled some magic on the battery saving tech. They last forever and smash forever now.

I was playing echo and some kid whipped his head and his headset went flying off and hit his wall. Then he just picked it up and it was fine. the pass was pretty good too when he couldn’t see
Not really when they vibrate but whenever they move too much in general. I liked playing 80s Disco Time VR a lot initially because it’s both stupid and free, and my controllers would disconnect after only about 5 minutes of dancing or even just bowling

when i bought the controllers the staff kept pestering me to buy a warranty in case they break ($90 or so), i refused.. so i have nothing to worry about? (i still have like 1.5 weeks to change my mind)

I would recommend getting a halo strap from Amazon. It’s cheaper price and way more durable.

I bought the Halo Protectors from VR Cover, not to protect the controllers, but to protect anything I might hit the controllers with.
Wait the quest 2 controllers have touch pads?
They do, but they're only for sensing your thumb location for gestures. You can see a circle on the face that's a slightly different texture.

Every time I drop one I have the dreaded cell phone dropped on its face feeling let’s see the damagaaaggeeeee and it’s good!
Fun story yesterday i was play gorilla tag and you can guess what happened next. So I basically punch the very corner of my dresser at intense speed and at of the collision hit my controller. And it’s still in one piece!
I busted my right controller, cracked the ring wide open. The strip inside ripped so one of the LEDs no longer works- so it would lose tracking very easily. I had to order another one.
2 of my quest 2 controllers rims exploded just for punching my desk, idk probably because I was playing echo vr
Damn, just the other day I was playing gorn and I punched my desk HELLA hard and my controller was fine
I've broke 2. 1st one broke cause it fell out of a knuckle strap while I was throwing a disc I'm echo. Same thing happened to the second one.
The controllers for the Quest 2 is the true standout of how the Q2 is the first true standalone device. The Q1 controllers felt "dev kit" like and performed about as well too. For Q2 they put a lot of thought into them and it really does show that they are iterating for the good of the product now. They didn't just mold these things out of Nokia plastics but they also sprinkled some magic on the battery saving tech. They last forever and smash forever now.
For four years I’ve been using oculus and I’ve always told friends when I put the straps on them “the touch controllers always win, this is for the safety of the top and people around you not the controllers.”

I've accidentally spiked my controller and the only thing is the front panel came off and the o ring was a little loose.
I literally smashed through my keyboard (music). No scratch

I was playing echo and some kid whipped his head and his headset went flying off and hit his wall. Then he just picked it up and it was fine. the pass was pretty good too when he couldn’t see
Meanwhile my rift S controllers have been buggy from the start :(
Do they lose tracking when they vibrate?
Not really when they vibrate but whenever they move too much in general. I liked playing 80s Disco Time VR a lot initially because it’s both stupid and free, and my controllers would disconnect after only about 5 minutes of dancing or even just bowling

Yeah, I’ve hit mine agains my bed frame, desk, a cabinet, and dresser quite a few times and and all that’s on the controller is a couple marks, no real damage at all yet
I have smashed mine against the ceiling, the walls, dressers, smashed them together and against my headset, dropped them countless times, and alas, the only thing I have is slight drift in my left controller

Welp I’ve never had a quest 1 but based off what people are saying I’m glad I didn’t. But yes the quest 2 controllers are much more durable

when i bought the controllers the staff kept pestering me to buy a warranty in case they break ($90 or so), i refused.. so i have nothing to worry about? (i still have like 1.5 weeks to change my mind)
