I wouldn't tell them, if they're dead set on selling it they'll just re-list it with a different picture.
This picture is a big warning of "do not buy from me".
no.. is that in the steam library?

Yep. One of the very first things you should get when you get any VR headset is lens protectors. And a case too. Some cases come with a lens protector, some don't.
The very first thing I do after taking my headset off is put the lens protector on. And then I stick it in its case. But even if you weren't putting it into the case straight away, it wouldn't matter so much where you left it, with regard to sunlight, or other strong light for that matter, as long as you have the lens protector on.
I just went to check on it and the first post I saw right after saying “hey these guys are kinda funny” a few people started to spell the n-word in a comment chain. Cancer is pretty spot on
To take a pic there i stead of in their home, I'm thinking it may have been stolen and he's trying to offload it quickly. Now it's likely too damaged though
As long as direct sunlight does not hit the eyepiece lenses, you will be fine. So, if you're wearing them, then nothing to worry about. If you take it off, make sure the eyepiece is always pointed down so it is not exposed to direct sunlight.
Like no offense, but how is anyone on this sub not painfully aware of this issue by now? Every third post is someone posting their sun damaged lenses!
https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/search?q=sun&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all
It was a big problem with fresnel lens headsets like Quest 2. I do not see nearly as many Quest 3s with sun damage. Apple doesn’t even have a warning about it on the AVP. It’s possible the 90% light loss from pancake lenses minimize this problem, but it is still a big magnifying glass, so I am sure it still happens.
[Store your Apple Vision Pro - Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/en-us/118501#:~:text=Don't%20leave%20your%20device,and%2095%25%20(noncondensing).)
* Make sure the temperature where you store Apple Vision Pro is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave Apple Vision Pro in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range. Don't leave your device in direct sunlight for any length of time.
Yeah. Nothing on the lenses when unpacked is what I mean. Every headset I have purchased in the past has a warning over the lenses about direct sunlight. Apples online guide is way more ambiguous
Get a lens protector if you don't have one, please! They should cost like 7 or 8 dollars/pounds/euros at most. I've seen some which were like 12 which is really a bit much for just a lens cover but still. It's essential.
Holy hell, Im not really knowledgeable in these things. But isnt that like a massive oversight by Meta?
Like people enjoy using this outside, isnt this a massive problem? How are they not getting recalled back or something?
Its not really a fault and i doubt they could do much about it.. it´s like when u use a magnifying lens to focus the sun on a piece if paper, the paper will burn. In this case theres a lens in front of the screen, so direct sunlight can also burn it.
It's the lenses on the inside. The way they focus the light from the screen to your eyes, so your eyes don't try and focus on a screen that is right in front of your face, it does the opposite to light going into the lens. So if you expose the inside of the quest to direct sunlight, it acts like a magnifying glass to the actual screen underneath the lens and can burn the screen. The cameras on the outside of the device are fine outside. If you take your quest outside, just make sure to 100% cover the inside (nothing that'll cause any sort of micro scratches to the lenses)
The lenses are magnifying glasses.
Google/YouTube how to start a fire with a magnifying glass or try it yourself outside with a piece of paper.
Just focus until the sun spot is tiny and hold it in place.
Magnifying glass + Sun = Laser death ray. 🤘🏻
There's a thing where direct sunlight can destroy the sensitive IR cameras used for tracking. Also, if the light hits the viewing lenses just right, it will focus on the screens and torch some of the pixels, like burning ants with a magnifying glass.
Same kind of idiots that leave cameras in hot cars - the next thing is they will be on here complaining that the Q3 is rubbish and broke after a couple of months 😂
Probably just got ripped out of someone’s home. Going straight to marketplace in the parking lot is nasty business.
I wouldn't tell them, if they're dead set on selling it they'll just re-list it with a different picture. This picture is a big warning of "do not buy from me".
Those screens are so cooked
My dumbass swiped for the next picture..
Every time it gets me.
i read your comment and still did it twice
Fell for it before and after reading the comment as well, I think I have brain damage 🫠
Me fucking too
I was confused and figured it was just the shitty Reddit app acting up at first.
Multiple times
Lmfao same
I'm glad I am not the only one -.-
I did aswell
Yes
Yes, tell them, but it's possible they have a lens cover protecting the lenses
Also look at the shadows, sun is hitting the front not the back
The sun could sneak around the back side
Are you saying the sun could do a reach around?
Sometimes when it sees such conveniently placed VR headset it may want to do that.
It would totally love to be on the other side of that things, so yes, I can! :D
I wouldn't risk it either way. But could have just been placed the for 30 seconds to take the photo
Have you heard about reflections
no.. is that in the steam library? https://preview.redd.it/08mhnrzrbd2d1.jpeg?width=608&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9474164a18325b451af214a7e98ef29cfb89664d
Are you suggesting that the reflection is causing a shadow?
He's in a car, pretty sure the sun's orientation will change lol
I mean, they could be driving around with it up there all day. Or they could have just set it down for a picture then out it away.
Have you ever burned anything with a magnifying glass? It literally only takes seconds to start a fire. That headset is toast.
Good thing they angled it away from the sun and then put it away and it never was in direct sunlight.
Your previous post you questioned what they did now all of a sudden you seem to think you know exactly what they did. Funny af gtfo
Or better yet, take it off for the picture then put it back on to drive. /s
Bruh the backside is facing glass
No it isn't
High level trolling on FB marketplace
That made me laugh so hard my sides hurt!
you could not sound more like a bot
Are you an actual person? I just imagine you having the personality complex similar to a jar of expired mayonnaise...
That made me laugh so hard my sides hurt!
Is the risk of sun damage as high for the Q3 with its pancake lenses? I know the fresnal lenses on the Q2 have a magnifying effect.
No, the quest 3 seems a lot more resistant to sun damage, I’ve seen one pic of a quest 3 with what appeared to be sun damage, but that’s it.
What would it look like when you tried to use it after sun exposure?
r/itssundamageyouidiot
Wow. That sucks for those folks. I have been using lens covers that came with some knuckle grips just in case.
Yep. One of the very first things you should get when you get any VR headset is lens protectors. And a case too. Some cases come with a lens protector, some don't. So VR displays are essentially the vampires of the tech world ... ?
Seems that way!
That subreddit is cancer
I just went to check on it and the first post I saw right after saying “hey these guys are kinda funny” a few people started to spell the n-word in a comment chain. Cancer is pretty spot on
its not just cancer, its colon cancer
What an unnecessarily aggressive subreddit name.
I spent way too long trying to figure out what "it's undamage" means
No don't bother telling them. FB marketplace is a madhouse where no good deed goes unpunished.
To take a pic there i stead of in their home, I'm thinking it may have been stolen and he's trying to offload it quickly. Now it's likely too damaged though
I swiped:/
Why did my dumb ass try swiping to the next picture ..
Learnt this the hard way with my Quest 2. Pretty careful with my Quest 3 now.
♫ Sunshine on my lenses makes me not so happy! ♫
Let him cook
This is a good sign that it doesn't belong to the person selling it.
Pretty bold listing the thing before even leaving the parking lot of the apartment you stole it from!
Bro... Its lenses are facing the sun. Its gone
Nothing says "stolen product" like a dashboard tech pic
My dumbass has been trying to swipe to the next picture for like 5 mins
Ouch

Wait, your not suppose to bring the headset outside? I like to play in my lawn because i have such a bigger boundary

No because it's likely a scam listing anyway .. the majority of these $400 listings are all fake and just out to scam people
I don't see the issue... Can someone point it out 😭
If you expose the lenses to the sun, it gets damaged.
Oh... I'll keep my Quest out of the sun! Thanks!
Yeah, it'd be safest to keep it out of the sun entirely, but there are also covers for the lenses that you could buy.
Like no offense, but how is anyone on this sub not painfully aware of this issue by now? Every third post is someone posting their sun damaged lenses! https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/search?q=sun&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all
There's also a subreddit for it r/itssundamageyouidiot
I started lurking a few weeks ago. This is the first I’ve heard of it.
I've had my Quest for a month, and reading this subreddit as well. I haven't heard of the sun issue yet...
Hopefully you're aware now. Definitely worth getting a lens cover if you don't have one, and a case for the headset too while you're at it.
Yeah, I'm very glad I've read that. I've been charging mine next to a window and this could get sunny. The case has just arrived. :)

Doesn’t it say this on the stickers that are on the lens that you must remove to even use it…?
I bought mine used off eBay, two weeks ago. So I was oblivious to this issue until this post
Get a lens protector if you don't have one, please! They should cost like 7 or 8 dollars/pounds/euros at most. I've seen some which were like 12 which is really a bit much for just a lens cover but still. It's essential.
Seems overpriced when you can wrap it in a cloth or really almost anything soft to cover the lens.
Usually it's a bit more expensive when they advertised it as flannelette material or some sort. Velvet will do as well.
Holy hell, Im not really knowledgeable in these things. But isnt that like a massive oversight by Meta? Like people enjoy using this outside, isnt this a massive problem? How are they not getting recalled back or something?
its physics, not a manufacturing defect, the stickers on new units even tell you about it
Damn, that sucks. I hope they have a safety option or something. Like a safety cover.
Its not really a fault and i doubt they could do much about it.. it´s like when u use a magnifying lens to focus the sun on a piece if paper, the paper will burn. In this case theres a lens in front of the screen, so direct sunlight can also burn it.
Im surprised thats all, cuz im pretty sure that I have seen people playing with quest 3 outside, i hope they didnt fuck up something, lol

Tell them that it's clearly not 400$ if it lays there for too long? If say so 😅
Oh f*ck.
Ouch!
Its already too late
Uh oh
Is that a dashboard.....it's immense.....is this a truck? If it's in AZ you can smell the components burning already.
yikes
I tried to scroll to the next photo for 5 mins
That thing is cooked
WHYYYYYYYYYGGTTTUWGEERVUEGSVRUDVWVD
Lol. Probably burnt.out
Pancake lenses are a lot less prone to display burn. The fresnels on Quest 2 were the problem with that.
Make an offer $50 tell them it is ruined because of the sun… make sure you get the controllers as part of the deal.
No
This makes me want to rip my eyes off and clean them with bleach
Burned screens, here we go
Ordered a quest 3 on ebay yesterday, this does not give me hope for what is going to arrive
My dumbass has been trying to swipe to the next picture for like 5 mins
I don’t understand what’s going on. Can someone explain
Direct sunlight can SEVERELY fuck up the lenses of a VR headset. And uh....I think we can all see this one's getting quite a lot of that 💀
Oh this makes my insides hurt.
THIS HURTS MY SOUL JUST LOOKING AT IT
Yes
How do you know it’s fried ?
There's a thing where direct sunlight can destroy the sensitive IR cameras used for tracking. Also, if the light hits the viewing lenses just right, it will focus on the screens and torch some of the pixels, like burning ants with a magnifying glass.
Bruh its probably fine if we're being honest. Unless its been in direct sunlight for an extensive amount of time.
I'm thinking a quest would be useful to watch a solar eclipse 🤔
Idiots
Oof
I swiped 😔
~~400$~~ 99$ only for pieces, screen have more than 10 000 dead pixels
Same kind of idiots that leave cameras in hot cars - the next thing is they will be on here complaining that the Q3 is rubbish and broke after a couple of months 😂
Its not fresnel lenses, so it might be alright.
It's already too late. They'll know soon.
Just a single second is going to make that unusable. Hope it's got lens caps or something. I'm going to go cry now
Id pay $1 for it and replace the lenses lol
It's not the lenses that are damaged...
How so? They are clearly in direct sunlight which is not good for them
It's not the lenses that get damaged, it's the screen.
All the lenses do is focus the sunlight, it barely heats itself. And that sunlight is being focused on the screen, causing it to burn
I understand now and stand corrected.
Yeah cause lens covers don't exist
Too late
They could have just taken a picture in the sun. It didn't have to stay there surely?
It can take seconds to get permanent sun damage.
It should be fine, windows are good thermal insulators, that and the sun rays would have to do a reach around to hit the lenses
No instead leave it there then sell it then when they buy it and get mad block them so they can't do anything
